PACFPE Chapter 2

“Little girl, how come you’re buying so much stuff by yourself? Can you even carry all of that?”

There were hardly any customers in the small supermarket at the moment. The boss lady, seeing a pretty young girl come to buy things, couldn’t help but ask.

With little time left, Ruan Ning felt anxious and wished she could just give the boss lady all her money and leave quickly. However, she smiled shyly and said, “Auntie, could you please check me out quickly? I have an urgent matter to attend to.”

Hearing her words, the boss lady didn’t say anything more and hastened her pace, scanning the items and bagging them, saying, “That’ll be five hundred and two yuan.”

After the apocalypse, money would lose its value. Ruan Ning certainly wouldn’t hesitate to spend a few hundred yuan, so she paid the bill without hesitation.

However, when Ruan Ning reached the supermarket’s entrance, she paused for a moment before speeding up and leaving the place. She didn’t bother to remind the boss lady about the impending apocalypse.

Leaving the supermarket, at least she would have food and drink, and she wouldn’t starve herself. It was much better than being scratched and infected by suddenly appearing zombies on the road or starving to death at home.

Moreover, she was currently just like a drowning person clutching at straws, struggling to survive herself, so she couldn’t worry about others too much.

****

Ruan Ning, panting heavily, returned home with a heap of items.

Fortunately, this building had an elevator, or she might have collapsed halfway. She couldn’t rush back so quickly.

Lying on the soft sofa, Ruan Ning’s mind was blank, but she instinctively glanced at the time on her watch.

—Three twenty-nine.

Finally made it…

Actually, when she first returned home, Ruan Ning almost couldn’t control herself and almost lay down on the sofa to rest.

It was only the strong will to survive, coupled with the panic of the impending life of hunger in the future, that made her give up rushing to this sofa and immediately run out to buy supplies again without even drinking a sip of water.

Although Ruan Ning arrived home from school three minutes earlier than expected, at three twelve, the time for the second trip to buy supplies was too tight. Ruan Ning was trembling with fear the whole way, her heart beating wildly, feeling like it might jump out of her throat. She was afraid of encountering trouble on the way and being blocked halfway.

Just in case, she also randomly grabbed a kitchen knife in the supermarket, regardless of price or brand, and stuffed it into her shopping basket.

This way, even if she accidentally encountered zombies, at least she would have something to defend herself with.

This small supermarket on the east side of the neighbourhood, although it had fewer varieties of goods, was closer to her building than the larger supermarket before. Moreover, it was located right next to the neighbourhood, with fewer people around, meaning the chances of encountering zombies after the apocalypse would be even smaller and safer.

Ruan Ning pondered that if she had to stay in the neighbourhood after the apocalypse and needed to collect supplies, this place would definitely be her first consideration.

In addition, Ruan Ning caught sight of a pharmacy not far from the supermarket after she came out. However, she simply didn’t have the time to go in. She only glanced at it briefly before running home at the speed of an 800-meter race, almost exhausting herself.

Today could be considered experiencing life or death speed.

Just the thought of being late and possibly encountering ugly-faced zombies made her unable to stop.

The second hand on her watch ticked away, finally stopping at the top position.

Three thirty.

The apocalypse had begun.

Inside the house, alone, Ruan Ning had no idea what the world outside was like right now. But through the fragmented descriptions in novels about this scene, she could imagine that the chaotic scene outside was probably not what she wanted to see.

Ruan Ning was very lucky. The timing of her crossing over occurred before the apocalypse, even if it was only an hour earlier, it was enough for her to do a lot of things.

At the same time, she was also grateful that she didn’t hesitate in the classroom about the plot and why she crossed over, but decisively left school, then went to the supermarket to buy supplies without delay, and managed to successfully evade this outbreak of the apocalypse.

She didn’t know if she could survive in the apocalypse, or how long she could live, but at least these supplies could guarantee that she wouldn’t be threatened in the short term.

After all, at the beginning of the apocalypse, the speed of zombie movements was generally slow, and their attacking power wasn’t high. As long as she didn’t leave this door, they couldn’t do anything to her.

Ruan Ning was certain that compared to S City First High School, this neighbourhood was definitely safer.

In the plot, the original owner discovered during physical education class that some classmates suddenly started biting people as if they were crazy. Some students called the police, and some went to call the teacher, but no one thought it was the outbreak of the apocalypse.

The classmate they mistakenly thought was ill was actually infected with the virus and turned into a zombie.

However, by the time they found out, it was already too late. The school turned into a hell, with monsters eating people and people screaming everywhere.

Like most surviving students from S City First High School, although the original owner survived in the chaos, she was trapped in the school.

The ivory tower of learning had become their prison. Even though the zombies weren’t very powerful, out of fear, very few of them dared to run out of the school. Most of them hid in one place, waiting for rescue, hoping that someone could take them out of that haunted place.

There weren’t many places in the school with food, but there were quite a few survivors. The original owner stayed in the school for more than half a month, starving and barely surviving, before finally encountering a rescue team coming to the school.

However, when she was about to leave the school with this group of people, she encountered a small wave of zombie groups, pushed out as a shield, and died there.
