PACFPE Chapter 15

The Ninth Day of the End of the World

Ruan Ning, as usual, was conducting her routine hour of exercise in the living room.

With no electricity and the treadmill out of commission, she switched to yoga instead. Exercising while cultivating her mind and body might help her come up with some good ideas.

Ruan Ning had just finished her warm-up and hadn’t started the next movement when she was interrupted by a sudden ring of the doorbell.

Who could be pressing the doorbell?

Ruan Ning wiped the sweat from her forehead with a towel, went to the door, and looked through the peephole. Standing outside the door were two adult men she didn’t recognize.

She frowned, took out her laptop from the space, opened it, and connected to the surveillance to check the situation.

The surveillance equipment installed by the original homeowner was the most expensive, so even if the power went out, it could still record and monitor for a while.

From the surveillance, it was evident that these two people were indeed together. They had arrived on the ninth floor twenty minutes ago, but they first went to the neighbouring unit and stayed there for about ten minutes. It was unclear what they were doing there before coming over to her place.

These two people were probably trying to go door to door to ‘borrow’ food?

Of course, Ruan Ning wouldn’t be foolish enough to open the door for them voluntarily. It wasn’t that she couldn’t bear to give away food; it was that once she set this precedent, it would never end. Not only would these two people continue to come ‘borrowing’, but if others heard about it, they might also come looking for her. Then what would she do?

Ruan Ning was not willing to do such a thankless task.

She thought these two people would leave soon, so she didn’t pay too much attention to it. But before Ruan Ning could put away her computer, she suddenly heard a heavy object hitting the door panel from outside.

Ruan Ning was stunned for a moment, then immediately realized it was bad. Her door lock had an alarm device. If someone forcibly broke in from outside, it would immediately sound an alarm.

Once the alarm sounded, it would be enough to attract the zombies from several floors up and down.

No one knew how many zombies were hiding in the entire building. If the anti-theft door downstairs broke during these days, the situation would be even more unimaginable.

“What’s going on? Are these two people outside crazy?!”

Ruan Ning realized this safety loophole that she had never noticed before only when things were at a critical juncture. She should have dismantled the alarm in advance.

As long as Ruan Ning thought about it a little, she could roughly understand the sinister intentions of the two people outside. The sound of breaking the door was too loud, which would attract zombies. Moreover, they might not even be able to break it open. So, they wanted to rely on the strength of the zombies to break in.

When the alarm went off, they could immediately run away and find a place to hide, leaving a bunch of zombies to hit her door. Zombies were not interested in human food, so they could wait until the zombies dispersed before coming back. Ruan Ning could also disarm the alarm before then, but similarly, these people would know there was someone in the house. By that time, they could still find a way to succeed. In any case, they wouldn’t suffer any losses.

What a tactic, using someone else to do the dirty work!

Sure enough, the two people immediately ran off when the alarm sounded.

Ruan Ning was infuriated and wanted to curse.

The alarm was piercing and sharp, making it impossible for Ruan Ning to concentrate on finding a solution to the urgent situation in front of her.

No matter how expensive her door was, it couldn’t withstand the impact of a group of zombies!!

If the zombies really broke through this door, as an ordinary person without any abilities, she would truly be trapped in the house, helpless.

You see, the alarm had only been ringing for less than a minute, and already two zombies with missing limbs stumbled over from the safe passage, forcefully banging on the door without hesitation.

Zombies were relentless; as long as the alarm didn’t stop, they would continue to pound on the door like this.

Ruan Ning hurried to disarm the alarm, but as for the rest, she could only come up with another plan.

She would rather let them know she was at home than let the zombies break into her territory. Anyway, she had already stored away her important supplies; she could just let them take them. She would remember this “gift” and definitely get it back later!

But what Ruan Ning didn’t expect was that as soon as the alarm stopped, the dull thumping from outside also ceased.

The surveillance video on the computer was still on, and she saw that the two zombies who were just vigorously banging on the door had somehow turned into charcoal, dead beyond dead.

And the person who killed them was a black-haired, black-eyed young man.

Huh? Why did this person look so familiar?

…Isn’t this the male lead, Gu Yicheng, who never answered her calls and refused to save her?

What’s going on?

The male lead came to save her??

Since Ruan Ning called Gu Yicheng on the first day and found his phone off, she never thought this person would come to save her.

But now, when she had no hope in him whatsoever, the male lead suddenly appeared here, and even helped her kill the zombies.

So, was she saved?!

A hint of joy appeared on Ruan Ning’s face, but then she remembered something and became resentful.

Hmm… Wait a minute, now she looked so well-nourished and obviously well taken care of, how would she explain it to the male lead later?
