PACFPE Chapter 19

Ruan Ning looked genuinely frightened as she stuttered under his questioning, “Brother, it was them who were banging on the door earlier, which attracted the monsters…”

Standing beside Gu Yicheng, she seemed to recall some terrifying scenes, biting her lip in fear and stopping short of finishing her sentence. But everyone present instantly understood what she meant.

Especially Gu Yicheng. Having experienced two years in the apocalypse, he had seen everything. He was no stranger to tactics like intentionally luring zombies and then looting afterward.

Moreover, the couple who had, in his previous life, tried to please him were ultimately trying to get rid of him so they can take advantage of the situation.

Gu Yicheng felt a surge of anger at the thought, his black eyes emanating an icy coldness.

“If they want to get in, then let them. Break their hands and legs and throw them into the house,” he declared.

Zombies were sensitive to the smell of blood, so it was easy to imagine the consequences of two immobilized people staying here. Even if they weren’t bitten to death by zombies, they would starve to death.

Upon hearing this, the two men on the ground instantly turned pale with fear. However, they had guns, so they couldn’t escape. They could only kowtow and beg for mercy, “Hero, we won’t dare again. It was our moment of blindness, our mistake. We shouldn’t have coveted your food. You’re generous, please spare us this time. We’re willing to give up all our food, as long as you let us go…”

In fact, neither of them were residents of this community. They were maintenance personnel. When the apocalypse started, they were doing repairs at a resident’s house when the owner suddenly turned into a zombie. After barely escaping, they found the outside world even more dangerous and had no choice but to return to the house. After cooperating to kill the zombies inside, they decided to stay there until they ran out of food. Eventually, they had to venture out for food and ended up with twisted intentions, never expecting to meet their match on their first try.

“Ridiculous. Do you think we’re short of your measly food?” Lin Yang, who had been quite the hoodlum during his school days except when it came to Gu Yicheng, felt even less sympathy for the two men when he heard that they had been bullying Ruan Ning before they arrived.

With the apocalypse upon them, these two grown men didn’t want to deal with zombies but instead came to bully a young girl, trying to steal her food. Killing such scum was practically doing them a favour.

As the two men continued to plead for mercy, Lin Yang, annoyed by their noise, quickly dragged them towards the house.

After a few screams were heard from inside followed by silence, it was likely that they had passed out. Few people could remain conscious under the excruciating pain of having their tendons severed.

Ruan Ning felt slightly surprised at how things had turned out. She had thought that, based on their fake brother-sister relationship, he might not stand up for her at all.

Gu Yicheng looked at the silent girl beside him, squinting his eyes with a cold tone, “Ning Ning, do you think brother went too far?”

Ruan Ning’s intuition told her that if she didn’t answer this question well, she might not have a chance to get close to him again in the future.

Upon careful consideration, she also understood why Gu Yicheng had been so ruthless even in matters unrelated to him this time. He probably remembered what had happened before his rebirth. It was only two strangers he was dealing with now, but last time, it was two friends and teammates he had spent years with. How could he not feel a chill in his heart?!

“No, brother,” Ruan Ning looked up at him, her expression sincere. “They deserve it.”

Ruan Ning didn’t sympathize with the two men. She wasn’t one to return evil with kindness. When the two had plotted against her, why didn’t they think about what would happen if someone was inside the house?

Upon hearing her response, Gu Yicheng didn’t say anything. He withdrew his gaze and walked downstairs. However, this time, his pace slowed down, allowing Ruan Ning to keep up without having to jog.

Was he satisfied or not?

Ruan Ning couldn’t quite figure out the thoughts of the male lead who had been reincarnated.

They walked all the way to the underground parking lot. Occasionally, one or two zombies blocked their path, but they were all taken care of by the male lead’s ability before they could get close.

For Ruan Ning, who didn’t have to dodge zombies for the first time when going out, her determination to cling to the thigh grew stronger.

It was like a protective umbrella sent right to her doorstep!

“Mr. Gu, you’re back.”

The person standing beside the car heard footsteps and looked over with a vigilant expression. Seeing that it was Gu Yicheng, he lowered his gun.

Ruan Ning followed beside the male lead, observing the man with a posture that clearly indicated he had undergone special training.

This person must be a soldier, right?

Thinking of the male lead’s family background, Ruan Ning wasn’t surprised to see such a person by his side.

However, she didn’t expect that when the leading man walked over, he would also greet her, “Miss Ruan, Chief Gu instructed our squad to pick you up. We will safely escort you to the safe zone outside the city.”

Since the members of this squad had seen Ruan Ning’s photo, they immediately recognized her.

Ruan Ning was momentarily stunned upon hearing his words.

Among the people she knew, the only one who could be called Chief Gu was Gu Yicheng’s uncle. The male lead’s father was his own younger brother. One joined the military, and the other went into business.

Although the original host was the adopted daughter of the Gu family, she had always stayed in S City and had only met the head of the Gu family in the imperial capital once.

Before the apocalypse, the imperial capital was a densely populated city. Gu Yicheng’s uncle held an important position in the military, so there must have been plenty for him to deal with after the apocalypse. The fact that he could think of her amidst his busy schedule and specially arrange for someone to come pick her up spoke volumes.

It seemed that the male lead’s father indeed had nothing to say about the original host, his adopted daughter.

But…

Ruan Ning glanced at the male lead standing beside her. His expression remained unchanged, giving her the feeling that he didn’t care at all about her departure.

No, it should be that he didn’t care at all.

He must be very willing to get rid of her, this little tag-a-long.

Well, she and the male lead had only spent a few dozen minutes together. Even if she acted obediently and pitifully, it wouldn’t have an immediate effect. Not to mention the years before the apocalypse. Back then, the male lead was young and hot-headed, with a surly personality. The original host was scared of him and barely had any interaction with him. Moreover, with the male lead’s father in between them, what kind of emotional foundation could they have had? As an ordinary person who couldn’t lift a hand, carry a shoulder, or even run fast, and considering that the male lead wasn’t her real brother and their relationship wasn’t good, what reason would he have to bring along an extra trouble on the road?
