PACFPE Chapter 20

The male lead refused to take her along, so it seemed she was destined to leave with another group.

Regarding this outcome, Ruan Ning didn’t feel any disappointment or sadness.

Her decision to cling to the male lead’s thigh was largely due to her own lack of combat ability. Alone in the apocalypse, she didn’t dare confront zombies head-on. A slight mistake could result in being scratched by a zombie and potentially turning into one of them. As someone who cherished beauty, Ruan Ning certainly didn’t want to meet such a gruesome fate, becoming an ugly, mindless monster. Following the male lead would at least be much safer than being alone.

But now, the male lead’s father sent a squad to rescue her. Military personnel were definitely stronger than her and most ordinary people. They were armed, and even if none of them had special abilities, as long as they didn’t encounter large groups of zombies, they would be more than capable of dealing with initial zombies and getting her to safety.

Moreover, soldiers had a sense of responsibility and integrity. They wouldn’t easily abandon her or leave her to die if she faced danger. Thinking about it this way, although the strength of this squad couldn’t compare to the male lead’s side, it was still a very good choice. How many people in the apocalypse would want to join such a team?

Ruan Ning quickly analysed the pros and cons and had a clear idea in her mind.

Of course, even if she thought this way, Ruan Ning hadn’t forgotten her character setting. Even if she wanted to leave with these people, she couldn’t show too much eagerness or obviousness. Otherwise, wouldn’t it contradict the dependence she just displayed on the male lead?

Her current goal was to switch to finding another backer in the imperial capital. But sooner or later, the male lead would also return to the imperial capital, considering that the people he wanted revenge on were still there. It wouldn’t hurt to gain a little favour with him.

“What about big brother? Is he going to the safe zone with us?”

After speaking, she looked at the male lead with expectant eyes.

The squad leader also turned his gaze to the young man. “Master Gu, would you like to join us to the safe zone?”

Although their main mission was to rescue Miss Ruan, Chief Gu actually had a hidden instruction. If they could get news of Master Gu, they were to try to persuade him to come with them to the safe zone and then discuss returning to the imperial capital. After all, that was the Gu family’s main base, so it was normal for Chief Gu to want him to return.

This squad was sent to rescue Miss Ruan because they were all from the imperial capital, and they had family and friends there. They would be even more dedicated to completing this mission.

“No,” Gu Yicheng said, “I have some other matters to attend to. Ning Ning, I entrust you to them.”

Ruan Ning appeared reluctant on the surface but felt nothing inside.

She knew it!

“But, big brother, I can’t bear to part with you,” she whispered, making sure those around her could hear.

Gu Yicheng’s lips curved into a smile at her words. He patted her head. “Be good, little one. The place big brother is going to is very dangerous. I can’t take you with me.”

Ruan Ning: “…Couldn’t you just say it? Why did you have to pat me again?!”

Not only boys disliked having their heads patted, but girls didn’t appreciate it either! Ugh!

And every time the male lead patted her head, Ruan Ning didn’t feel any of the warmth others described; instead, she felt her scalp tingling.

Thankfully, the male lead withdrew his hand after a single pat.

Ruan Ning didn’t want to continue the act any longer. She lowered her head, looking disappointed and forlorn, obediently saying, “Okay then. Big brother, take care on your journey.”

After finishing dealing with the two individuals, Lin Yang also came down from the ninth floor through the stairs. On the way, he encountered Jiang Jingchao, and the two of them arrived at the underground parking lot together.

Lin Yang didn’t know that Gu Yicheng had already declined the offer to join them. When he heard that Ruan Ning was going with this squad, he thoughtlessly said, “Gu ge, weren’t we supposed to go to City B to find Chaozi’s family? We’ll also pass by the safe zone outside the city. How about we go with sister Ruan Ning?”

Lin Yang’s family was in S City, but the relationships there were very complicated. His biological mother had died several years ago, and his father had a bunch of illegitimate sons and daughters, so he didn’t want to go back and find those so-called family members. Their lives had nothing to do with him.

But Jiang Jingchao’s younger brother was studying at a university in City B, and their family was there too. Although Chaozi had contacted them through special means after the apocalypse and there didn’t seem to be any immediate danger, Jiang Jingchao was still worried and wanted to go to City B to find them.

Both Gu Yicheng and Lin Yang would accompany Chaozi on this trip.

So, if they hadn’t encountered this squad and come to this neighbourhood to find Ruan Ning, their original plan was to finish their business in S City and then immediately head to City B.
