TVFCATEOD Chapter 18

Bai Qingqing immediately stood up, leaving Xiao Yang downstairs. Fu Chen stood in front of the stairs and reached out his hand to her, helping her jump down.

“What’s wrong, brother? Is there something?” White Qingqing asked as Fu Chen pulled her to the next floor.

“We’ll stop and rest in a while,” Fu Chen said, leading her to the lower floor.

They still had half the distance to the nearest dock city, and it was estimated that they wouldn’t arrive until tomorrow afternoon. They parked the modified car by the small river on the side of the road.

Dinner hadn’t been prepared yet, so Bai Qingqing suggested having a barbecue. Since the apocalypse began, the team had been eating plain meals, and they hadn’t seen any traces of barbecue for at least half a year. They had even forgotten the taste.

Bai Qingqing took out outdoor tools from the space, including a portable stove, tables, chairs, a barbecue grill, a bucket of purified water, and various frozen foods and vegetables.

Everyone looked at her taking out so many fancy things and couldn’t help but look at Fu Chen. The captain took his little sister to stock up on supplies, but who knew how many strange items they had collected.

Fu Chen was also curious about when she had collected so many outdoor supplies.

While taking things out from the space, Bai Qingqing said, “Brother, I thought these things might come in handy, do you mind?”

No one could blame her. They just didn’t expect her to be so well-prepared. Usually, they entrusted the task of stockpiling to Bai Tiantian, and the most they stored were grains and some everyday necessities.

No one had thought about collecting outdoor equipment. Even if they did, they wouldn’t dare to stay outside for fear of sudden zombie attacks.

Fu Chen gazed deeply at the outdoor items Bai Qingqing took out one by one. The environment in the apocalypse would only become more difficult. There was no clean water source, and food became even scarcer. Even the expired food that was hard as a rock would be fought over by people.

Facing extinction, scientists eventually developed nutrient fluids to sustain life. The taste was terrible, and it didn’t provide a satisfying sense of fullness.

The few of them were scattered in different places, serving as lords or high-ranking members of the base. Their lives were better than ordinary civilians, but they couldn’t enjoy the same comforts as before the apocalypse. Occasionally, they replenished their energy through nutrient fluids.

This kind of life, sitting down to rest and having a barbecue, was something they hadn’t even considered.

Because he bore the responsibility and had to find a way to give humanity a bright future, not to be destroyed by the apocalypse.

Bai Qingqing looked at the items scattered on the ground and smiled at everyone. “Shall we have a barbecue party?”

Bai Tiantian timidly looked at the other members of the team. She and her sister didn’t have much combat ability, so they had to rely on the men in the team for many things. They could only act after receiving instructions.

They didn’t know if there were any zombies in the wilderness. Were they really going to have a barbecue here?

During their time in Zhou Village, besides working, they had to find a way to get out of their predicament. Their spirits were tense, and they hadn’t had a proper rest. When they heard Bai Qingqing’s suggestion, they had no objections.

Liang Zhiyu pushed up the gold-rimmed glasses on his nose and elegantly rolled up his sleeves. “I’ll be the chef.”

Bai Qingqing volunteered to help. “I’ll assist you.”

The others divided the tasks of washing and cutting vegetables among themselves. Only Lord Fu Chen sat in a chair and didn’t move. He was the young prince of the Jingzhou Base and had never done any work since birth. He could only sit and wait for the food to be cooked.

Liang Zhiyu skillfully grilled chicken wings and ham, while Bai Qingqing stood by, occasionally helping with the flipping.

“Dr. Liang,” she sincerely praised, “you’re really amazing. It feels like there’s nothing you can’t do.”

Liang Zhiyu smiled lightly. “There is.”

“What?” Bai Qingqing looked at him curiously.

The girl’s bright and beautiful big eyes were filled with curiosity, giving people a feeling of wanting to tease her.

Liang Zhiyu pondered for a moment and then uttered two words, “You guess.”

“…” What am I supposed to guess?

Bai Qingqing suppressed her displeasure from being teased and blinked her eyes before smiling lightly, “You guess whether I will guess or not.”

Liang Zhiyu seemed pleased and said, “If you don’t want to guess, then forget it.”

Xiao Yang, who came over with two corn cobs, looked confused and asked, “Guess what?”

Both of them looked at him and said together, “Nothing.”

Xiao Yang felt even more bewildered and squeezed himself between Liang Zhiyu and Bai Qingqing, saying, “The vegetables are all washed and cut. Let me help you.”

The barbecue grill wasn’t wide enough, so Bai Qingqing was pushed to the side. Xiao Yang handed her a corn cob and asked, “Qingqing, here’s one for you. What else do you like to eat? I’ll get it for you.”

“Thank you.” Bai Qingqing smiled shyly, “No need to get anything.”

Xiao Yang brushed oil on the corn cob and asked her with a small brush in his hand, “Do you want to brush it yourself, or should I do it for you?”

“I’ll do it myself.” Bai Qingqing took the brush from him.

Liang Zhiyu looked at Xiao Yang’s attempts to please the girl and narrowed his fox-like eyes. The smile on his lips faded slightly.

Bai Qingqing attentively grilled the chicken wings, ham, crispy chicken bones, beef, and other things on the grill. While waiting, she glanced at the table and met a pair of cold eyes.

Fu Chen lazily sat in his chair, his expression icy and his deep eyes fixed on her, obscure and unfathomable.

Bai Qingqing’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly put on a pure and clear smile. She silently hoped that Fu Chen wouldn’t notice anything.

As the strongest and most difficult man among them, Fu Chen’s temperament was unpredictable. If he suspected that she was deceiving him, it would be a terrible outcome.

Her life was important, and she had to maintain her little sister’s image.

Bai Qingqing retracted her gaze and picked up the grilled chicken wings, walking quickly towards Fu Chen.

“Brother, I grilled this for you.” She slightly bent her waist, revealing a soft and adorable smile. “Try the taste.”

Fu Chen looked at the girl in front of him with a clear smile on her face, but his expression remained cold. He said with hidden meaning, “I don’t eat chicken wings.”

“Ah.” Bai Qingqing was surprised but didn’t give up, still holding the chicken wings. “Brother, these are honey-glazed chicken wings, they’re delicious. Just have a bite.”

Fu Chen looked at her pleading expression and reluctantly accepted, “Give it to me.”

Bai Qingqing handed him the chicken wings and sat down on a nearby chair, picking up the water cup and taking a sip.

Fu Chen’s gaze shifted towards her, staring intently.

Unconsciously, Bai Qingqing licked her lips and asked, “Is there something on my face?”

“That cup of water is mine,” Fu Chen said indifferently.

“…” Bai Qingqing felt embarrassed. She didn’t mean to take it mistakenly. Seeing that the water hadn’t been touched, she took it to quench her thirst.

Bai Qingqing’s eyes flickered as she asserted dominantly yet cutely, “Well, it’s mine now.”

Fu Chen didn’t say anything. He quickly finished the chicken wings in a few bites, and the girl next to him immediately handed him a new cup of water. He took it and had a sip.

Bai Qingqing looked at him eagerly, “Brother, how does it taste?”

“It’s alright,” Fu Chen replied.

Bai Qingqing seemed a bit disappointed, “Really? I grilled them for a long time. You should at least praise me a little.”

A faint, fleeting smile flashed in Fu Chen’s eyes, and he pursed his lips. “Not bad.”

Bai Qingqing: “…” Few words of praise.

“Qingqing,” Xiao Yang called out to her, “Your corn is almost done. Come and have a look.”

“Oh, coming.” Bai Qingqing immediately ran over.

Shen Mingxuan and Bai Tiantian also placed the grilled food on the table and looked over at Bai Qingqing, who was chatting happily with Xiao Yang.

Bai Tiantian blurted out, “Xiao Yang seems to really like Qingqing.”

Shen Mingxuan, Cheng Rui, and Fu Chen all looked over and stared at Xiao Yang, who was grinning foolishly, as if he were a little puppy constantly trying to please the girl he admired.

“Fu Ge, you should keep an eye on that girl. Don’t let him deceive her,” Shen Mingxuan sneered. He personally didn’t have a good impression of the beautiful and cunning Bai Qingqing, and his intuition told him that she was deceiving everyone with her memory loss.

Cheng Rui, with his handsome and cold features, remained expressionless as he stared at the young couple. He wondered if Bai Qingqing really liked Xiao Yang, that kind of boyish guy.

Bai Tiantian looked at Fu Chen and asked, “Captain, what do you think?”

Fu Chen pursed his lips, a few suspicions flashing through his mind. If Xiao Yang really liked Bai Qingqing, it meant that he was no longer affected by Bai Tiantian’s magnetic field.

Bai Qingqing and Xiao Yang were at an age where they could be in a relationship.

If they both liked each other, he had no reason to stop them. In fact, it could be seen as a good thing for him.

Fu Chen coldly said, “It doesn’t matter if Xiao Yang likes her, it depends on Qingqing’s feelings.”

The man remained as indifferent as ever. Even when it concerned his ‘sister’, his emotions remained unchanged.

Bai Tiantian bit her lip, ignoring the strange emotions that flashed through her heart.

The table was filled with various delicious-smelling foods, and everyone sat around the table to eat. Xiao Yang occasionally said a few words to Bai Qingqing and placed the food she liked in front of her.

“Xiao Yang,” Shen Mingxuan suddenly spoke, “Do you like Bai Qingqing?”

Xiao Yang immediately looked at Bai Qingqing’s face, then quickly averted his gaze, his cheeks turning slightly red. He stammered, “Mingxuan ge, what are you talking about!?”

He then looked at Bai Qingqing, who looked surprised, and angrily said, “Mingxuan ge, stop joking around. It will trouble Qingqing.”

The others silently looked at him, their gaze shifting between him and Bai Qingqing.

Bai Tiantian, chewing on her corn, muttered, “You all have misunderstood. You’re all so much older than me, I’m a bit afraid to talk to you.”

She lowered her eyelashes and whispered, “Xiao Yang and I are about the same age. We get along well.”

“…” Several men were unexpectedly hurt.

Except for Xiao Yang, who was younger, Cheng Rui and Liang Zhiyu were the oldest, followed by Fu Chen and Shen Mingxuan, all several years older than her.

Bai Qingqing sat with her head down for a few seconds, then turned around with the corn in her hand and walked away.

“Qingqing, where are you going?” Bai Tiantian asked anxiously.

“I’m going for a walk by the river,” Bai Qingqing replied without looking back.

Bai Tiantian looked worried, “She’s going so far. I hope nothing happens to her.”

Shen Mingxuan’s face was cold as he spoke in an icy tone, “There are no zombies around here. If she wants to court death, let her.”

“Shen Mingxuan!” Xiao Yang glared at him, “Qingqing has already lost her memory. The past is the past. Stop being biased against her.”

Shen Mingxuan looked at him coldly, “Do you really like her?”

“What’s it to you!” Xiao Yang suppressed his anger and said, “Qingqing doesn’t care about you, so you always target her, right?!”

Shen Mingxuan was provoked, how could he care about that kind of woman? He liked girls like Bai Tiantian, warm and kind-hearted.

He grabbed Xiao Yang by the collar, his face clouded with anger, “I advise you to think before you speak!”

Xiao Yang was about to retaliate when Liang Zhiyu’s cold voice came, “You two grown men arguing over such a trivial matter, what does that make you look like, considering the current situation?”

Shen Mingxuan let go of Xiao Yang, glanced disdainfully at him, and left.

Xiao Yang sat down angrily, his face looking unpleasant. He looked at Fu Chen and said, “Fu Ge, can you go and find Qingqing? I’m worried she might be in danger.”
