TVFCATEOD Chapter 35

Cheng Rui held onto her and didn’t let go, indulging in her warmth, and said, “Let me hold you for a while, just for a little while.”

He came into this world, abandoned by his biological parents and later picked up by his foster mother. As a young boy, he entered the training camp where they needed a sharp blade, not him.

His foster mother and stepbrother treated him fairly well, but he still lacked a sense of belonging.

He was silent and unlikable, with a clumsy mouth that couldn’t sweet-talk anyone. He had never wished to possess a silver tongue until now.

He wanted to say more sweet words to Bai Qingqing, to plead with her to be with him.

Bai Qingqing felt his burning breath and remained silent, no longer struggling.

Her continued resistance was futile; she couldn’t resist Cheng Rui, and it would only spark friction. Perhaps he really just wanted to hold her.

The man’s strong arms held her tightly, and in the darkness, neither could see the other’s expression, only feeling each other’s breath.

Time passed, but they didn’t know how long. Cheng Rui let go of her hand and lowered his gaze to the girl in front of him. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay.” Bai Qingqing raised her head, revealing a smile. “I don’t blame you.”

Cheng Rui felt somewhat guilty; he must have frightened her. Otherwise, her voice wouldn’t have trembled. He immediately turned to leave the room.

“Cheng Rui!” Bai Qingqing quickly called out to him.

Cheng Rui paused his steps, his back facing her without turning around.

“Cheng Rui, can you… not go out?” Bai Qingqing stood in the dark room, feeling a bit scared. She actually had a secret, she was afraid of the dark.

In the pitch-black night, it seemed like monstrous creatures could emerge at any moment, and she felt a chill running down her spine.

Cheng Rui turned around and looked at her. Bai Qingqing stumbled through her explanation, “I didn’t mean it that way. I’m afraid of the dark. Can you stay here with me?”

“Okay.” Cheng Rui immediately agreed and walked over to sit on the sofa.

Bai Qingqing climbed onto the bed and looked at Cheng Rui sitting on the sofa. He seemed like a silent black knight guarding there, giving a sense of security.

He had many injuries on his body, and it would be tiring for him to sit like that. It would also affect the healing of his wounds.

Bai Qingqing couldn’t bear to let him sit like that all night, even though he would obey her if she asked him to.

She took out two quilts from her space, tidied up the bed, and laid out two sleeping mats. “Cheng Rui, come and sleep too.”

Since the arrival of the apocalypse, many men and women without a place to stay would sleep together, without regard to gender.

Cheng Rui had offended her earlier, causing her excessive nervousness and fear. She didn’t expect that she would invite him to sleep on the bed. Emotions swirled in his eyes, and his voice was hoarse. “No need, I’ll just sit here. You sleep.”

“…” Bai Qingqing was a bit stubborn.

She got off the bed and walked over. “Don’t you want your wounds to heal quickly?”

Cheng Rui pursed his lips and looked at her.

Bai Qingqing’s tone carried a command. “Quick, get on the bed and sleep. We need to observe the surroundings tomorrow and head to the Yaoyang Base early.”

“Okay,”

 Cheng Rui responded.

Both of them got into their respective sleeping mats, lying in warm quilts. There was a living person emitting warmth beside them, and Bai Qingqing finally felt somewhat at ease. She closed her eyes and slowly fell asleep.

Cheng Rui didn’t fall asleep so quickly. The pain from his wounds and the girl lying next to him, whom he held dear, made it impossible for him to sleep peacefully.

He turned his body slightly, using the faint moonlight to gaze at her sleeping face.

Bai Qingqing’s sleeping posture was very standard, with her eyes closed and her eyelashes casting a shadow on her cheeks. Her small, cherry-red lips were slightly parted, and she breathed shallowly.

The more Cheng Rui looked, the more fascinated he became, and his gaze became increasingly heated.

His Adam’s apple moved, and he restrained himself, withdrawing his gaze. It was as if he was back in the military, silently counting numbers, forcing himself to have a clear mind and fall asleep quickly.

The next day.

The sunlight streamed through the window, casting golden rays into the room, bringing a touch of warmth. The dazzling white light woke them up from their slumber.

Cheng Rui woke up first, feeling something pressing on his legs. Opening his eyes, he saw the girl’s slender legs resting on top of his.

It turned out that her standard sleeping posture was just an illusion. As she fell asleep, she became restless and almost pushed him to the edge of the bed.

Cheng Rui carefully moved her legs aside, went to the bathroom for a quick wash, and then took out his gun from the luggage to check the situation outside.

After exploring the surroundings and returning, he found that she was still sound asleep, like a sleepy kitten.

“Qingqing.” Cheng Rui gently nudged her hand.

Bai Qingqing frowned her eyebrows, impatiently waving her hand to push him away.

Cheng Rui had no choice but to bother her again. “Qingqing, wake up.”

Bai Qingqing immediately woke up, opening her blurry eyes and looking at the handsome face in front of her. “…Cheng Rui?”

She remembered. Thunder Squad had encountered a small wave of zombies and encountered mutant plants, which forced them to separate. She and Cheng Rui took shelter in a residential building.

She rubbed her eyes and asked in a daze, “What’s the situation outside? Can we go out?”

“We can.” Cheng Rui organized his things and said, “Go freshen up. We’ll leave later. If everything goes smoothly, we should be able to reach the Yaoyang Base in a couple of days.”

Bai Qingqing went to the bathroom for a quick wash, wiping her face. Looking at herself in the mirror, her delicate appearance looked somewhat exhausted, adding a touch of sickly beauty to her.

In fact, traveling by car was also tiring, and combined with her small appetite, she barely ate any nutritious food and had become thinner.

She didn’t know if Fu Chen was safe and if he could safely reach the Yaoyang Base.

Her two mission targets were still with the team. She hoped they would all be safe; otherwise, her side mission would fail, and she wouldn’t be able to obtain any clues about the virus.

After coming out of the bathroom, she tied her hair up with a hairband, revealing her beautiful face, and said, “Let’s go.”

Cheng Rui held her hand as they left the room, quickly dispatching a few ordinary zombies that tried to approach. Then, they both got into the off-road vehicle.

The off-road vehicle sped on the road, crushing all the ordinary zombies in its path. Bai Qingqing held a gun in her hand and occasionally tried shooting the zombies.

Cheng Rui would occasionally guide her on the shooting angle, and the zombies would be headshot one by one, luckily obtaining crystal nuclei.

The two of them were like a couple eloping in the apocalypse, racing on the highway under the scorching sun.

At the moment of the sunset, the car stopped at a gas station and encountered another group of survivors resting there.

The survivor group consisted of five people, two couples, and a middle-aged man with long hair, speaking in a humorous regional dialect.

Finally, they encountered normal survivors this time. After a brief exchange, they learned that both sides were heading to the Yaoyang Base, and smiles appeared on their faces.

The leader of the survivor group was named Zhou Hang, and his girlfriend was named Yang Li. Originally, they were preparing for their wedding, but the apocalypse suddenly struck, and the whole world underwent a mutation. They didn’t have time to hold the wedding and hurriedly embarked on the path of survival.

Yang Li was happy to meet other survivors, and she looked joyful as she said, “We can enter the base together tomorrow.”

The post-apocalyptic safe base was the last place where humans could survive. As long as there were humans alive, there was a future without worrying about being bitten by zombies or starving to death.

Zhou Hang held her and smiled, “Yes, after fleeing for several months, we finally see hope.”

The group chatted and laughed, sharing a bit of instant noodles with Bai Qingqing and Cheng Rui.

Yang Li was curious about their relationship and asked, “Are you two a couple?”

“No need to ask.” The long-haired man laughed, “They are definitely a couple.”

Another woman said, “That’s not necessarily true. They should just be ordinary friends.” She looked at Cheng Rui and smiled as she asked, “Am I right?”

Zhou Hang and Yang Li were a couple who went from being on campus to planning their wedding. In this post-apocalyptic world, the relationships between men and women had become chaotic, and couples like them were rare.

The survivors used the term “couple” to describe their relationship in a nicer way, but in reality, many women were just accessories for men to satisfy their desires.

Bai Qingqing appeared delicate and fragile, like a delicate flower dependent on men to survive. Otherwise, why hadn’t they admitted their relationship yet?

Cheng Rui pursed his lips but remained silent.

From the moment they met, Bai Qingqing had noticed the woman staring at Cheng Rui without blinking, her eyes filled with desire.

The man beside her became unhappy and his face darkened, but she didn’t seem to care.

Provoked, Bai Qingqing acted scared and helpless, clutching Cheng Rui’s hand tightly and whispering, “He’s a friend of my brother.”

Cheng Rui remained silent, feeling somewhat uncomfortable.

“Hello, handsome,” the woman named Wang Feifei took the initiative and said, “My name is Wang Feifei. What’s your name?”

Cheng Rui gave her a cold glance, clearly showing no interest, and he pulled Bai Qingqing back into the car.

The atmosphere inside the car became silent.

Bai Qingqing lazily yawned and reclined her seat, preparing to sleep.

Suddenly, there was a tapping sound on the car window. The woman came over again, intentionally tapping on her side of the window to talk to Cheng Rui.

“Hey, handsome, are you hungry? I have bread and water here.”

Bai Qingqing closed her eyes as if she hadn’t seen anything. Cheng Rui opened the car door and got out.

The woman thought he took the bait and swayed her waist as she walked over, her voice deliberately filled with flattery. “Hey, handsome, it’s crowded here. Let’s go over there.”

Bai Qingqing was about to go to sleep when she heard the sound of tapping on the window again.

Was Cheng Rui a bit promiscuous to move so quickly?

She opened her eyes and saw the man standing outside the car. Her brows furrowed.

Oh, really? It’s a perfect match, and nobody loses out. Instead of catching his cheating girlfriend, Wang Feifei’s boyfriend came to find her.

She rolled down the window.

The man leaned on the car roof with one hand and revealed what he thought was a charming smile. “Little sister, I noticed you haven’t eaten much tonight. I have bread and ham here. Would you like some?”

Bai Qingqing thought to herself, “You’ve come to me willingly, offering me experience points. It would be a waste not to slap you.”
