So Annoying
The three Lin brothers, including the youngest, Lin Jiang, frowned slightly. Although he hadn’t accepted Su Su’s cake before, he had just eaten it because she said they were now family, so it didn’t matter if he did.
The cake was really delicious, so he had already decided to stand by this new sister-in-law. Children’s thoughts are simple: whoever gives them good food is a good person. That Qin Yueyue, however, had never given them anything tasty.
Qin Yueyue said awkwardly, “Actually, I have some personal things I’d like to talk about with you. It’s not really appropriate with the three of them here. Let’s go for a walk?”
Su Su glanced at the three Lin brothers standing behind her like bodyguards and couldn’t help but laugh. “There’s no need for that. They’re not outsiders.” After all, what should be known is already known. Lin’s mother didn’t need to keep anything from them on her behalf. It was already considerate enough not to mention the ambiguous past between her and Lin Donghe.
Qin Yueyue frowned slightly but eventually said hesitantly, “Actually, I just wanted to say that since we’ll be relatives in the future, could you forget about the past?”
“Huh? Is there a family relationship between you and Comrade Qin?” Su Su asked Lin Hai with feigned innocence.
Lin Hai immediately shook his head, “Our families are not related at all.”
Su Su nodded and smiled. “I’m an orphan, so I probably don’t have any relatives in this world. Comrade Qin, you must have mistaken me for someone else.”
Qin Yueyue was slightly stung by this remark but didn’t get angry. She just said, “Yes, we’re not even relatives anymore.” Then, looking troubled, she continued, “I didn’t want things to turn out this way. I just feel that… even if there’s no engagement, our families could still remain close.”
“There’s no need for that, really. You’ll be leaving this village for university soon,” Su Su replied, almost saying the words “out of our league” outright, though her meaning was clear.
“Comrade Su, I… I thought I should bring something for your wedding. These are some eggs I bought in the village. You can add them to tomorrow’s dishes.” With that, Qin Yueyue pulled six eggs out of her pocket.
Su Su didn’t know if six eggs was a lot or a little, but she wasn’t interested. Not only did these six eggs not compare to the twenty yuan she had spent, but they also wouldn’t make a difference in tomorrow’s feast. There would likely be dozens of people attending, and six eggs would only make one dish, hardly enough to serve.
She didn’t take the eggs and said, “That’s very thoughtful of you. Thank you, Comrade Qin.” She was about to refuse outright when Lin Jiang chimed in, “Hey, Comrade Qin, how come you have money to buy eggs but not to pay back the twenty yuan you owe us? My mom’s been grumbling about it all morning, and it’s giving me a headache.” Lin Shan nudged him, but Lin Jiang ignored it.
Seeing Qin Yueyue’s face turn pale, Su Su almost burst out laughing but managed to feign seriousness. She said, “You silly boy, why are you spouting such blunt truths? My apologies, Comrade Qin. He didn’t mean it.”
Lin Jiang scratched his head, wondering if his future sister-in-law was praising or scolding him. But seeing her slight smile, he realized it must have been praise. After all, it had made Qin Yueyue cry.
“I’m sorry,” Qin Yueyue said, her voice trembling. “I sent the money home for my two younger brothers to go to school.”
The more she spoke, the more aggrieved she sounded. If it weren’t for her family, she wouldn’t have to endure such humiliation.
Su Su had read about the Qin family in the story and felt they were indeed excessive. But that didn’t mean they should burden the Lin family to support her maternal family. After all, Su Su was now the Lin family’s future daughter-in-law.
“Well, remember to pay it back in the future. Anything else?” Su Su asked.
The eggs were not accepted, so Qin Yueyue had to put them back in her pocket.
“It’s just… about that recording device…” Qin Yueyue finally revealed her true purpose for coming—to retrieve the recorder. Without it, she wouldn’t be at Su Su’s mercy, and even if Su Su didn’t spread the recording, the existence of it threatened both her and Lin Donghe’s futures.
“No way. That recorder is expensive, and I can’t give it to you. Besides, I won’t delete the recording either. Maybe I’ll delete it after I figure out how to use it properly. You’ll leave this village after the New Year, so whether the recorder exists or not shouldn’t matter to you…”
Before Su Su could finish, a figure stepped forward and shielded her completely.
…
Does he have to move so fast? Su Su felt a gust of cold wind blow past her and realized she was surrounded. Behind her stood the three Lin brothers, and in front of her was the eldest, Lin Chuan. She had no room to intervene.
She twitched the corner of her mouth and heard Qin Yueyue’s aggrieved voice cry out, “Brother Chuan, I only came to give you something…”
“Call me by my name. The engagement is cancelled. We have no relationship,” Lin Chuan said coldly, his tone making Qin Yueyue shiver.
Why had she never realized this man could be so terrifying? Did he now see her as an enemy?
“Comrade Lin Chuan, I just didn’t want things to escalate, so—”
“As long as you don’t bother Su Su or my family again, nothing will happen. Please leave. I’m getting married tomorrow, and I don’t want anyone misunderstanding our relationship.” Lin Chuan’s calm words left Su Su wide-eyed.
Was this supporting male lead always this eloquent? The original story didn’t mention this at all. And what was with his interrogation-like tone? How could the strong-willed female lead possibly tolerate it?
Sure enough, the female lead burst into tears and said, “Fine, I promise I’ll never come back again.” With that, she turned and ran out.
At that moment, two young men approached from the other direction. The female lead ran straight past them, and one exclaimed in surprise, “Comrade Qin, where are you going? Brother, why’d you upset her? If you can’t make it up to her, who are you marrying tomorrow?”
Lin Chuan froze and said stiffly, “Not her.”
The man paused and asked, “If not her, then who? We came for the wedding banquet. Are you sending us away without food?”
“I’m marrying Su Su,” Lin Chuan replied. Then he stepped aside, finally letting Su Su out.
Thinking they were relatives, Su Su greeted them with a polite smile. “Hello, I’m Su Su, Lin Chuan’s fiancée.”
Su Su was already beautiful, and after traveling into this story, she looked even younger. Her smile was utterly captivating.
