BT70sTMUMP Chapter 33

Do You Have a Grudge?

It’s good to be isolated, Su Su thought. She didn’t believe Qin Yueyue was naive or pitiable. At this point, probably only the male lead would think so.

Still, being carried like this made her feel embarrassed. The village secretary even teased, “Can you manage? Maybe let her rest inside first.”

Even if Lin Chuan couldn’t, he wouldn’t admit it now. So, gritting his teeth, he replied, “I can.” Besides, Su Su wasn’t heavy at all—she felt light as a feather in his arms.

However, Su Su, unaware of whether he was tired, whispered, “Why don’t you put me down? There’s space to stand anyway.”

“No need. I’ll put you down once the ground is ready.”

“I’m heavy.”

“You’re not heavy at all. Very light.”

Su Su’s heart felt as if it had been brushed by feathers—it was surprisingly comforting. If only Lin Chuan hadn’t added the next line, she could have been happy all day.

“You’re lighter than the sandbags in the army.”

“…” Su. Sandbag. Su, now intensely disliked sandbags. Very much disliked.

She was a living, breathing person—and a decently attractive woman. How could he compare her to a sandbag? What a fool.

“The ground is ready. Brother Chuanzi, you can put her down now,” the female lead, Qin Yueyue, said with a smile, wiping the sweat that wasn’t even visible on her forehead. She subtly used her body language to show how hard she had worked for their wedding. And, from time to time, she sneaked glances at Lin Chuan. What was that about?

Su Su frowned, momentarily unable to figure it out. She knew the female lead didn’t have feelings for Lin Chuan. It was impossible for her to suddenly realize she loved him now that he was getting married—that was ridiculous.

Moreover, if she were being careful, she wouldn’t let others notice. But her behaviour seemed designed to be noticed. She had even said she wouldn’t come, yet here she was.

Interesting.

Su Su didn’t have much experience in relationships, so she didn’t fully understand. But when she stood on the ground and saw Qin Yueyue secretly wiping her tears while others comforted her, she suddenly understood.

The female lead was stirring trouble again. Her performance was sending a message: she couldn’t let go of Lin Chuan and was being forced to part with him against her will.

How was she forced? Naturally, it would appear that Su Su had stolen Lin Chuan from her.

This would undoubtedly spread throughout the village. Given Lin Chuan’s apparent willingness, many would see them as an illicit couple, and Qin Yueyue would be viewed as the pitiable one left behind.

People would gossip behind their backs for sure.

What kind of grudge did she have against the Lin family to go this far?

While Su Su was thinking this, Lin Chuan was having similar thoughts. In the past, he would’ve ignored it, but now he couldn’t. He could bear the blame, but not his bride. Su Su had stepped in to help him—how could he let her suffer unjustly? Besides, once he left, she’d be alone here, and life would be tough for her.

Su Su had no idea that her man wasn’t as clueless as he seemed—he simply didn’t say much. She was still figuring out how to deal with the female lead without overstepping, given that it was her wedding day.

At that moment, the village secretary stood before the portrait of the leader, asking the young couple to pledge their vows.

Su Su, feeling nervous, squeezed the tall man’s little finger and whispered, “I-I don’t know how to do this.”

“Just repeat after me.”

“Okay.”

At a crucial moment, her boyfriend came through for her.

Su Su, nervous but determined, followed Lin Chuan’s lead as they made their vows. When she glanced at him afterward, his gaze made her heart race, and she quickly looked down.

The village secretary, not one to stick rigidly to formality, chuckled after the vows and said, “Now let Comrade Lin Chuan share some thoughts about their relationship. Let’s all give them a round of applause!”

The crowd clapped enthusiastically, eager to hear what Lin Chuan had to say. After all, everyone knew they had only known each other for a few days before deciding to marry. What kind of relationship insights could he possibly have? Surely, there was a story behind this.

Given Qin Yueyue’s earlier display, some people were already speculating. Some elderly villagers even suspected that the couple might have had a secret relationship before marriage, leading to the rushed wedding and the former fiancée being pushed aside.

Su Su also noticed a few odd looks from people in the crowd, which made her frown. But before she could dwell on it, her hand was gently squeezed. She looked up just in time to see Lin Chuan step forward, standing tall and straight in front of her, showing no hesitation.

Wasn’t he supposed to be shy? How could he step up so confidently to talk about “relationship insights”? He was breaking character!

And yet, he stood there so solemnly, as if giving a formal report rather than discussing love.

Su Su almost rolled her eyes. Though she liked this kind of man, he was way too serious—he was only in his twenties!

While she was lost in thought, Lin Chuan began to speak. His tone was calm, and he said, “I’m sure everyone is curious about how Su Su and I came to be together. You could say it’s fate.”

For some reason, Qin Yueyue felt uneasy. Knowing her former fiancé’s personality, he didn’t seem like someone who would give such a speech. But now, it felt like he was just getting started.

Su Su tilted her head, confused. Wasn’t he the type to settle things in one sentence? Why did it seem like he was planning to elaborate?

“My former fiancée, Comrade Qin Yueyue, did very well in this year’s college entrance exams and will be attending university next year. Let me first congratulate her on achieving her dreams. After all, few people get the chance to attend college. According to her, she wants to focus entirely on her studies without being tied down by family responsibilities. That’s why she requested to break off the engagement or postpone the wedding until after graduation.”

What?

Postpone the wedding until after graduation?

The crowd immediately sensed something was off. Graduation would take years.

It was the truth, and Qin Yueyue had no response. Her face flushed, and she finally realized how sharp Lin Chuan could be when he decided to speak. She had never imagined he would reveal everything in front of everyone, and she felt utterly humiliated.

Even Lin Donghe thought Lin Chuan’s words were inappropriate, seeing them as a deliberate attack on Qin Yueyue. However, since Lin Chuan was simply stating the facts, there was nothing he could say to defend her.

Su Su, on the other hand, was surprised, her mouth slightly open. So her man was this reliable? A quiet person who didn’t bark but bit hard when necessary.

Lin Chuan continued without missing a beat, “My parents had spent nearly half a year preparing for the wedding, putting in a great deal of effort. My current wife, Comrade Su Su, decided to step in and marry me to complete this wedding as an act of gratitude. I am deeply thankful to her.” After saying this, he turned to Su Su and saluted her.

Su Su: “…” Her eyes immediately reddened. She wasn’t as noble or selfless as he made her out to be. Everyone present finally understood why the wedding had come together so quickly. It wasn’t a whirlwind romance but a gesture of gratitude.

**Nomad: Hi everyone, many of you may have noticed that some novels haven’t been updated for a while. I struggled to regain access to my account after my site went down, which took some time to resolve. I’m also in the process of moving the website to a different hosting plan, which I’ve been handling manually in the background. This has taken up a lot of my time, but I’m almost done. You might notice the website going down for a few hours now and then while everything gets sorted. Sorry about that!**
