PACFPE Chapter 89

What factory mission?

Since the Morning Light Squad was already preparing to leave B City, naturally they could not have gone to the mission hall to accept any task. They had no idea what mission was related to this food processing factory either.

Faced with Zeng Yi’s question, the members of the squad exchanged glances, all somewhat confused.

In the end, Lin Yang reacted quickly. Before the people opposite could notice anything was wrong, he stepped forward and said without changing expression, “Yes. We’re also here for this mission. Didn’t expect you to be on the same task as us.”

Teams that accepted the same mission did not necessarily know each other. So no matter what this mission was, they could just agree first.

Because of the little incident on the road earlier, Lin Yang now had no good impression of the Dragon-Tiger Squad, so he felt no guilt at all about fooling them.

This group had taken the initiative to give them an excuse, saving them the trouble of explaining why a dozen or so of them had appeared at the entrance of a food processing factory. They could not expose the matter of collecting supplies into a space. But without another reason, suddenly appearing here would also be very suspicious.

As for this so-called factory mission the Dragon-Tiger Squad mentioned, if they believed it, then they believed it. If they did not, the worst outcome was just a fight.

Before coming here, the Morning Light Squad had not really considered the possibility that other people might be present. A place like a large food processing factory was not something even Base Three could swallow whole without first considering whether they had the ability to do so. Even if they had enough manpower and strength to break into the factory and kill the hundreds or thousands of zombies inside, they still had to consider whether they could transport so many supplies back in one trip. Other supplies might be fine, but much of what was in this food processing factory was refrigerated food. At present, the base did not have enough manpower or resources to build and maintain a cold storage large enough to hold so many supplies.

The only thing that could achieve this was a spatial ability. A space came with its own refrigeration effect: energy-saving, environmentally friendly, and power-free. It also did not require sending out a large number of people all at once.

But as far as they knew, Base Three currently did not have any spatial ability users.

“Since you’ve also accepted the mission, then let’s divide the areas and search separately,” Zeng Yi said.

He was also very surprised that this “unknown” team had accepted the task. He had never seen this team in the base before. They were probably newcomers, and he was somewhat unsure about their strength.

However, the contribution points for this factory reconnaissance mission were not high enough to make people risk their lives. Otherwise, it would not have hung in the mission centre for a week without any team accepting it. Moreover, the base had once had a bloody lesson. In the past, there had been a team whose strength was insufficient, yet they still wanted to take all the contribution points for a mission and forced themselves to do it. In the end, the entire team died. Since then, no team had accepted a mission that was clearly mismatched with their strength. Since this team dared to accept it, they must have considered this issue too.

“How do you want to divide the areas?” Lin Yang asked.

“You go east to scout, and we’ll go west. Then before dark, we’ll meet back at the entrance of this food processing factory and integrate the information before reporting it to the base.”

The total area of this food processing factory was very large. Even if they only needed to scout the first few cold storage rooms this time, it would still take a lot of time and energy. Not to mention, they had to leave before dark.

Zeng Yi had originally thought that his squad would not be able to finish scouting everything in half a day no matter what. But only their squad had accepted this mission, so they would have had to make several trips.

Fortunately, another team had now appeared. Although they also did not have many people, they could help share some of the pressure. If things went smoothly, they should be able to more or less figure out the situation in the front half of the factory within today.

In the past, Zeng Yi had not been enthusiastic about cooperating with other teams at all. He felt that with their squad’s strength, they could complete missions on their own. There was no need to cooperate with others and then divide the contribution points with other teams.

But ever since the setback at the supermarket, Zeng Yi had also seen one fact clearly: with the strength of only their one team, there were many things they could not do.

That was also why he took the initiative to cooperate with this team this time. If it had been before, Zeng Yi would have directly told this team to go back and would not have allowed them to interfere in this mission.

Seeing that they had believed it just like that, Lin Yang did not ask any more questions. After glancing at Brother Gu, he said, “We have no problem with that.”

He had seen the factory’s floor plan. This factory had an asymmetrical structure, and the western side was larger than the eastern side. There were two cold storage rooms on the west side, and only one on the east side. In the middle of the factory, there was also a row of warehouses containing finished goods that could be stored at room temperature and had recently been prepared for shipment.

From the Dragon-Tiger Squad, the Morning Light Squad learned that the so-called factory mission this time was actually to scout the three small cold storage rooms near the main entrance.

It seemed Base Three had also started setting its sights on this food processing factory. That made sense. As B City’s largest food processing factory, there was no small amount of supplies inside. If they were all still usable, they would be enough to sustain the thousands of people in the base for quite some time. However, cold storage required electricity to maintain. Now that the city had long since lost power, how much longer the items inside could be preserved was still unknown.

Previously, they had been busy building the base and had other more important matters to handle, so the base had not had time to focus on this. Now that they had some breathing room, they would definitely think of the supplies in this food processing factory first. They had to make use of all usable supplies.

“By the way, when your team drove over, did you see our other group?” someone from the Dragon-Tiger Squad asked.

The people of the Dragon-Tiger Squad thought that since these people had also come out of the base, they might have encountered the two vice-captains and the others, so they asked.

Lin Yang narrowed his eyes, smiled, and said, “Now that you mention it, we did see a group coming the same way as us on the road. Unfortunately, their vehicle got a flat tire halfway, so they had to go back and change vehicles before continuing. At this speed, they’ll probably take a while longer to arrive.”

The people from the Dragon-Tiger Squad were slightly surprised. They had guessed that the team led by the two vice-captains had encountered zombies on the road, but they had not expected it to be a flat tire.

Thinking that their team still needed to collect supplies, and seeing that the others had no further questions, Lin Yang said, “Since the areas have already been divided, we’ll go in and start scouting first.”

They definitely would not mention the conflict with the other Dragon-Tiger Squad group on the road.

Since the Dragon-Tiger Squad could become one of the top teams in Base Three, their strength definitely was not poor. In terms of individual strength, they might not be comparable to the Morning Light Squad, but they had the advantage in numbers. With so many people gathered together, even if Ruan Ning’s side could beat them, their plan to collect supplies afterward would probably be impossible to continue.

They could still distinguish which matter was more important. Rather than wasting energy fighting these people, they might as well go into the factory, kill more zombies, and collect more supplies.

However, it was also simple if they wanted to avoid conflict with them: just leave sooner.

After entering the factory, only when they had walked far enough that the group at the entrance could no longer be seen did Lin Yang finally ask, “Brother Gu, are we going east or west now?”

Although Lin Yang had agreed readily just now to brush them off, in reality, he had never intended to listen to them at all. How could they possibly go east just because those people told them to? Their team would naturally only listen to Brother Gu.

“We’re not in a hurry to go to the cold storage rooms near the entrance. We’ll go to the back of the factory first and collect the supplies in the large cold storage room there,” Gu Yicheng said.

His target from the beginning had not been those small cold storage rooms outside, but the large cold storage room in the innermost area. The combined area of those small cold storage rooms was not even as large as that big cold storage room.

As for the supplies in those smaller cold storage rooms, they could look at the situation first before deciding. The people from Base Three had already set their sights on this place. Gu Yicheng needed to inspect the supplies in that large cold storage room first before considering whether it was worth opposing Base Three for the sake of a few small cold storage rooms.
