Cen Xiyang: “…”
Cen Xiyang took a deep breath. “Then what else am I supposed to do? Stay here and keep wasting away?”
The man was about to speak again when another, steadier voice sounded. It belonged to the supervisor. “Can we ask what your friend’s situation is? Can she take a few more people?”
The supervisor was a man nearly fifty years old, and one of the few ability users among this group. When the apocalypse first arrived, he had been the first to forcibly close the doors of the entire building and activate the security system, covering the first to third floors with protective bars over the sealed windows.
Some people wanted to run out, so the supervisor only left a side door, neither too big nor too small, for them to escape through. After those who wanted to run had left, he completely sealed the entire building.
Fortunately, the supervisor had obtained a water-type ability. Compared with the water-type ability user Fu Erdie had met before, the one with premonition ability, his was stronger. He could produce one litre of water per day at first. Later, as he slowly improved himself, the amount gradually increased. Now, he could produce five litres of water every day.
It could be said that the people still alive in this building had all survived because of the water he provided.
Aside from him, Cen Xiyang and six others also had abilities. However, Cen Xiyang’s ability and an intern’s ability were a little useless on their own. Alone, she was only a little stronger than normal. Only when combined could they fight zombies well.
The others could not figure out what was going on, but after that, the two of them had always cooperated.
However, whether it was that intern or the supervisor, Cen Xiyang would not make the decision to bring anyone along without permission.
She did not know what Fu Erdie’s current ability was, how much food she had at home, whether she was with many people, whether there was intrigue between ability users, or whether Fu Erdie only barely had enough spare strength to come find her now…
She knew none of this. How could she promise to take these people away?
She only said, “I’ll ask my friend.”
With that, she turned, wanting to go around the crowd and head to the stairwell.
But how could they let her leave?
Especially the ordinary people without abilities. Usually, they all relied on these ability users’ pre-apocalypse co-worker relationships to sustain them. For every ability user who left, their danger increased by one point!
They absolutely could not let her go!
One person looked at Cen Xiyang with tear-filled eyes. “After all the friendship we’ve had since the apocalypse began, are you really going to abandon it just like that?”
Cen Xiyang was full of anger.
Her ability was special. Aside from being seen through by the intern and forced to expose it before cooperating with him, she was not familiar with the others at all!
Every day, she worked hard going out to search for supplies. At night, the roads she secretly had to travel became farther and farther. And who was all this because of?!
If not for the fact that she needed the supervisor’s water, and the supervisor could not abandon this group of subordinates, she truly would not have been willing to share the resources she had worked so hard to get with these ordinary people who only knew how to eat.
Yes, their abilities were limited. Going outside was dangerous.
But Cen Xiyang herself could not even eat her fill, yet she had been forced to feed these colleagues for half a year. She was furious too!
The supervisor himself was a good person and wanted a good reputation. But the supervisor only provided water. He would not go out with them to fight zombies or search for supplies. All the hard labour was done by her and the other ability users!
Wasn’t this supervisor who distributed water just like a boss who paid wages before the apocalypse? He gave you a salary, gave you KPIs, and if you could not accomplish them, that was your problem. If you refused to do it, someone else would.
Then those who received his kindness were deeply grateful to him. Even though this was already a life-or-death apocalypse, they still spent all day flattering him, even more enthusiastically than before the apocalypse.
Cen Xiyang was truly irritated in this environment!
“Thanks, but there’s no friendship.”
With a cold face, she pushed aside the people blocking her and strode quickly toward the corridor.
She could deal with ordinary people, but she could not deal with the ability users.
The ability users’ meaning was obvious: either they all stayed together, or they all left together. They would not watch her run off alone to enjoy a good life.
Just as Cen Xiyang fell into a deadlock, and Fu Erdie and Sang Wenhao rushed down to help, everyone suddenly felt their minds sway and their vision blur.
Only Cen Xiyang was unaffected. She quickly ran toward the stairs, reached the fourth-floor window, opened it, and waved at Fu Erdie.
The process was very fast, but the third-floor ability users also quickly reacted to what had happened.
Most of them were strength-type ability users without speed abilities. With a delay of these ten seconds, they definitely could not catch up.
Moreover, she had that companion who looked very powerful. Now that they had missed the chance and failed to hold her hostage, it was definitely too late!
After figuring this out, everyone turned their gazes toward the intern behind the crowd.
It had to be him!
Just like with Cen Xiyang, none of them knew exactly what his ability was. They only knew it had something to do with mental power. That dizziness just now must have been his doing!
The intern looked roguish and smiled without the slightest concern.
Fu Erdie successfully picked up Cen Xiyang on the fourth floor.
There was no time to hug and cry. She handed over a large cup of water. “Quick, catch your breath. We’re leaving now.”
Cen Xiyang’s eyes were red. Tears kept falling uncontrollably from physical instinct as she accepted the water bottle and quickly said, “Those people went crazy and wouldn’t let me leave. A companion of mine used a mental-type ability to hold them back. He’s probably being beaten now.”
Sang Wenhao waited until Cen Xiyang stood steadily, then lowered the metal box. Sure enough, they saw a group of people beating someone.
Cen Xiyang took a big gulp of water. Only after her mouth and tongue felt less dry did she say hoarsely, “He’s a mental-type ability user. His ability mainly works through shared vision. Through his own control, he can see the structure of objects at different levels. For example, he can directly see where crystal cores are located, and he can also see the weakest spot inside a zombie’s brain.”
“His personality isn’t very good, but for now, his character is trustworthy.” Time was tight, so Cen Xiyang did not explain in detail and only summarised briefly. “If you can use his ability, bring him. If you can’t, then don’t bother. These people won’t beat a combat-capable ability user to death.”
As if thinking of something, Cen Xiyang added, “Although without my cooperation, his combat strength is basically zero.”
Fu Erdie looked at Cen Xiyang.
They had been close friends for so many years. She could hear what Cen Xiyang had left unsaid.
The person who had helped her escape and was currently being beaten should be her partner, and a very useful one at that.
But Cen Xiyang would not use that fact to ask Fu Erdie to bring another person. She only stated her partner’s ability and character, adding weight to his value without putting pressure on Fu Erdie.
The choice was entirely in Fu Erdie’s hands.
And that shared-vision ability…
Fu Erdie felt that her and the cubs’ combat style might be upgraded again.
Inside the room, everyone was still beating the intern. But suddenly, a chair flew over everyone’s heads, smashed into the wall, then rebounded onto several people’s heads with a series of thuds.
Before the group could even get angry, they saw many metal parts appear out of thin air directly in front of their eyes.
Only then did the boiling anger of the crowd cool down. They blinked with difficulty.
Fu Erdie’s voice sounded from the loudspeaker outside the window. “Let that person come to the fourth floor. Otherwise, I’ll just have to kill you first and then take him away.”
The air fell into dead silence.
Especially the ability users who had earlier planned to take Cen Xiyang hostage. Their backs were now drenched in cold sweat.
They had thought her friend was strong, but not this strong! She could control metal even through sealed window glass and kill them invisibly.
A man whose face, head, and clothes had all been torn badly stood up from the crowd.
His face was split and bleeding, but he was still smiling. And after seeing the three people outside the window, he laughed even louder.
He spat at the crowd. “Do you not know that all the food within ten kilometres has pretty much been searched clean? Once you really can’t find any more, how many more days do you think you can keep feeding these unrelated people?”
He glanced at the supervisor and wiped the blood from his mouth, only to bare his teeth in pain because he touched his wounds. His entire swollen pig-headed face looked exceptionally ferocious.
Cen Xiyang: …
