NDHTSD Chapter 2

Happy Second Day: Give Me Several Boxes of Everything.

Jiang Muyun discovered her space in the sixth year of the apocalypse.

It happened after she accidentally ran into a group of cannibals and had a piece of her scalp sliced off by one of them.

This space could hold a great deal. Jiang Muyun could sense that it had boundaries, but no matter how she explored, she could not find where those boundaries were.

In her previous life, whenever she was bored, she would fill it with sand. Yet even on the day she died, she had still not managed to fill the space completely.

Time inside seemed to be frozen. If she threw a freshly killed animal into it and took it out three days later, the blood would still be warm.

The only drawback was that living animals could not be placed inside. Plants, however, could be put in as long as there was soil clinging to their roots.

It was thanks to this space that she had room to store supplies. Whenever she found food or water, she no longer had to immediately shove it into her stomach to prevent it from spoiling or being stolen.

Unfortunately, by then, the climate had already become terrible to the extreme. Apart from the layers upon layers of ragged padded jackets she wore in winter, there really wasn’t much for her to store.

At most, after floods, she would store some water, let it freeze into ice during the extreme cold, then secretly use it in a cave during summer.

But now, this was not the devastated apocalypse!

She had enough time to fill her space with supplies she had never even dared to dream of in her previous life!

The person in charge of the warehouse accepted the rent, removed the iron padlock from the warehouse door, and handed the chain to Jiang Muyun.

“You can get your own lock for the warehouse. We don’t touch that. When the rental period is up, just take your lock with you.”

After saying that, he looked at Jiang Muyun and still felt a little uneasy, so he added a few more reminders.

“This place is remote, and the surveillance camera just broke. It’ll take another couple of days to fix it. A young girl like you can’t stay here guarding goods by yourself. If something happens, we won’t be responsible.”

Jiang Muyun thought to herself, That surveillance camera of yours is just a plastic shell. It probably won’t be fixed even in two years. But the reason I chose this place was exactly because of that.

Jiang Muyun smiled sincerely. “Don’t worry, Uncle. I’m a university student. I’ll be going back to school soon. This warehouse is for my second uncle. I’m just running an errand for him. Later, I’ll make him treat me to a big meal.”

The person in charge relaxed. He did not ask anything else and turned around, driving off in his small van.

Jiang Muyun opened the warehouse doors and windows to air it out first. Then she dragged her luggage for more than ten minutes and found a small convenience shop.

She bought a cup of instant noodles and asked the shopkeeper for some hot water.

“Young lady, are you here alone? What brings you here?” the auntie watching the shop asked while pouring water for Jiang Muyun.

Jiang Muyun was not shy at all. “Auntie, don’t even mention it. My family is preparing to come south to do business. They want to try a small trade first and test the waters. But the adults at home couldn’t get away for the moment, so they sent me over first to rent a warehouse.”

The auntie was not surprised when she heard this.

Their area was close to the village. The land was cheap, and the rent was even cheaper. Many warehouses had been built here for rent, and they were very popular with small merchants.

“Then what’s all this?” The auntie nodded toward Jiang Muyun’s luggage, tied up with rope and boxes.

Jiang Muyun lifted the lid of the instant noodles to take a look, while her mouth did not stop talking. “I’m still studying. I’m at West University. I have to go back to school in a couple of days.”

The noodles were almost ready. The rich fragrance kept drilling into Jiang Muyun’s nose.

The auntie smiled. “I thought you looked like a student. So you’re even a top student.”

Jiang Muyun slurped a big mouthful and sighed in satisfaction.

The auntie found her strangely adorable as she watched her eat noodles. She also felt this young girl was talkative and easy-going, so she wanted to chat with her a little more.

Jiang Muyun had always been outgoing, but in her previous life, she had never dared to form deep relationships with people. She no longer remembered how long it had been since she had chatted with someone like this about ordinary family matters. Once they started talking, it became a little endless.

An hour later, from the auntie’s mouth, Jiang Muyun had learned the local prices of various kinds of rice, flour, fruits and vegetables, which nearby restaurant was the most affordable, how to contact the most capable freight driver, where the most promising daughter was studying, and when the handsomest young man was free…

Before leaving, the auntie even stuffed two starch sausages into her hands.

Jiang Muyun peeled off the sausage casing and took a bite. Completely satisfied, she carried her luggage and checked into a nearby guesthouse.

Sitting on a peeling-backed chair, Jiang Muyun took paper and a pen out of her suitcase.

Now she needed to calculate the funds she had on hand, then sort out a suitable supplies list according to her financial situation.

Jiang Muyun’s adoptive father had been a retired soldier. He had lived frugally his entire life. The most extravagant thing he had ever done was adopt Jiang Muyun when he was already in his fifties, because she had been old enough to remember things and therefore no one else had wanted to adopt her.

They were called father and daughter, but in reality, they were more like grandfather and granddaughter. Jiang Muyun had always called her adoptive father Grandpa.

In her previous life, after the old man died of illness, Jiang Muyun’s emotions had nearly collapsed. As if held together by one last breath, she had properly handled his funeral arrangements, then lived in a daze afterward, never paying attention to the matter of assets.

It was only after the apocalypse descended and chaos gradually rose that Jiang Muyun fully pulled herself together.

Unfortunately, by then, “money” had already lost its usefulness.

So Jiang Muyun truly had no idea how much money she currently had.

She opened the online banking page.

In her previous life, everything related to Grandpa had been left at her home in Nan City. When the apocalypse arrived, everything disappeared without a trace.

This was the first time Jiang Muyun had directly faced the fact that “Grandpa was already gone.”

Perhaps because so much time had passed, or perhaps because she was grateful that the old man did not have to suffer through the apocalypse, Jiang Muyun’s mood was relatively calm.

But after checking the balance on her card, Jiang Muyun became a little less calm.

Old man, didn’t you say while you were alive that you had spent your whole life as an ordinary soldier, and only barely got promoted to lieutenant before retiring? How did you save more than 2.8 million yuan on this card?

Could not having children really make someone rich?

Jiang Muyun opened a shopping app and repeatedly confirmed the purchasing power of more than two million yuan. She began to suspect that perhaps her grandfather had some kind of inheritance ability.

For example, maybe one of their ancestors had once been “Half-Immortal Jiang” or something.

So when you told me before you died, “Nannan, live a good life from now on,” this was what you meant?

With a starch sausage held between her teeth, Jiang Muyun first transferred the money in several batches into XX Bao and XX Bao to earn interest.

Even the smallest mosquito was still meat. It could earn one or two hundred yuan a day.

In that case, her plan could be a little bolder.

The next day, Jiang Muyun extended her stay at the guesthouse by one day, left her luggage there, and went to the wholesale market the auntie had mentioned yesterday.

When buying daily necessities like firewood, rice, oil, and salt, following the local housewives and househusbands would never lead you wrong!

Jiang Muyun arrived quite early. The seasoning shop was loudly calling out as goods were being loaded.

Oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar were all being moved by the box, mixed in with all kinds of sauces and spices. From what she heard, they seemed to be delivering them to several small supermarkets, and the delivery volume was not small.

These kinds of small supermarkets were all opened by local residents. Their business depended on repeat customers. If this shop could do this kind of business, then at the very least, its quality would not be below average.

The shopkeeper’s reputation and character were one aspect. More importantly, if business was good, then the shop basically would not have old stock that had been sitting there for years.

Jiang Muyun was an unfamiliar face, and she was buying a lot. It was impossible for her to open every item and check the quality, so choosing a good shop was very important.

Jiang Muyun watched from the side for a while. Only after several delivery vehicles had left did she walk forward and strike up a conversation with the owner.

“Boss, business is booming.”

People who did business all loved hearing such words. It was both a compliment and a blessing. When the owner heard it, his face immediately carried a smile.

“Not at all, not at all. It’s all thanks to regular customers looking after us.”

Jiang Muyun did not waste words and got straight to the point.

“Boss, what are your prices like? How much do I need to buy for you to help deliver?”

The owner reached out and pulled a price list from a pile of goods.

“Wholesale and retail prices are all on there. No delivery for retail. Spend over fifty thousand and we’ll deliver within Xi City and the surrounding areas.”

Jiang Muyun accepted the price list and skipped over the cooking oil.

Cooking oil, like rice and flour, could be collected directly from the villages.

It was late August now. The early rice harvest in X Province had not been over for long. Rather than buying resold products from a grain and oil shop, she might as well go directly to the villages, raise the price a little, and cut in before the grain and oil shops did.

In any case, she was not doing this every day. The quantity she needed was not considered much to a grain and oil shop.

She could buy cheap, high-quality new grain, and the villagers would also be happy to earn some extra money. A win-win.

Jiang Muyun swept her eyes over the prices and compared them with what the convenience shop auntie had told her yesterday, as well as the wholesale prices she had searched online herself. They were indeed cheap.

Jiang Muyun said, “Then deliver it to No. 32, X Village. My family wants to start a small business. I see your prices are fair, so I might as well buy everything from you. Boss, give me a bit more of a discount.”

When the owner heard that she was preparing to do business here, he hesitated for a moment before saying, “That’s fine. If you buy a lot, I’ll throw in some curry blocks for you.”

Not many people in their area bought curry. If they did, they usually bought turmeric powder directly. He had been talked into buying quite a lot when he purchased stock earlier, and now he was worried about what to do with it. Rather than leaving it there to gather dust, he might as well use it as a favour.

Jiang Muyun glanced at the curry blocks. They were all common supermarket brands. Their retail prices were not cheap, and the dates were fairly recent. The owner was being quite sincere with this little extra.

Jiang Muyun nodded. Holding the price list, she began sweeping up goods as if reciting a menu.
