Summoning the Soul (STS)

—A fallen noble young lady × a deceased young general—

From a distinguished youth of Wuling to a treacherous traitor, Xu Hexue’s crimes in life were too numerous to record.

Even though he had already confessed his guilt and died fifteen years ago, people in the marketplaces of Great Qi still spoke of old rumours about him and spat upon his evil deeds.

Ni Su had never imagined that, in the fifteenth year after Xu Hexue’s death, she would meet him in a vast snowy wilderness.

He was not as fierce and terrifying as the rumours claimed, nor was he several zhang tall with a blue face and sharp fangs.

He wore the very black cloak she had just burned into ashes, carried a lone lantern, and walked barefoot toward her. The wind did not stir his clothes, and the snow did not fall upon his shoulders.

“Who are you?”

Ni Su regretted it countless times. If she had known that cloak was meant for Xu Hexue, she definitely would not have lit that basin of fire.

But later—

Her elder brother disappeared, her family home and fields were seized, and when Ni Su fell into the dirt, at her most wretched and helpless, only the lonely ghost Xu Hexue remained by her side.

He accompanied her as she gritted her teeth and rose from the mud, straightened her back, searched for her brother, and demanded justice.

He accompanied her through rain and snow, winter and spring.

On the day Ni Su fulfilled her wish and parted ways with Xu Hexue, she wore a bridal gown and was about to marry a suitor of excellent family background, appearance, and bearing.

Yet that night—

The lonely ghost Xu Hexue sat beneath a tree covered in frost and watched as the girl in red ran through the wind and snow, carrying an armful of incense and candles.

“Not getting married?”

“I am.”

Xu Hexue’s jaw tightened, and he turned his face away, unwilling to speak to her again.

But beneath the tree, the girl looked up at him, her temples damp with melted snow.

“Xu Hexue, I have many incense sticks and candles. I can support you for a very long time. I’m not afraid of humans and ghosts walking different paths. Let us spend our whole lives like this, all right?”

——

With winter clothes, I summon your soul; share this life with me.

This is a redemption story with a happy ending.
