Doomsday Asylum Chapter 35

Regarding underwear, Ning Xin is professional, able to tell at a glance that it’s a 36D push-up bra.

Anyone who can wear this size, unless overweight, must have very attractive and alluring curves.

However, Lang Xiao’s current appearance has nothing to do with “beauty,” it all looks rather ridiculous.

What are they doing? Selling underwear to make money?

Didn’t I leave them money? Nie Ran also has tens of thousands in his card, there shouldn’t be a shortage of money.

If he wants to make money himself, that’s fine, but forcing Lang Xiao to do such embarrassing things…

Looking at the crowded customers in the picture, Ning Xin just wants to fly to the front of the stall now, take Lang Xiao away, afraid he’ll cause a scene.

Finishing the remaining breakfast quickly, Ning Xin puts on clothes, grabs her wallet, and heads out, taking a taxi straight to People’s Square.

After the initial hustle and bustle, the crowd has gradually dispersed.

Those who want to dance are dancing, those who want to play chess are playing chess, but there’s still quite a number of customers around the stall, business seems to be booming.

Ning Xin looks on for a few minutes, just about to go over, then hesitates.

What should she say after going over?

Should she ask them to close the stall and come back with her?

Would Nie Ran agree?

How resolute he was when he turned away at first, and now how hesitant he is.

Ning Xin is also someone who cares about saving face. Just thinking about Nie Ran seeing her voluntarily going back to make amends makes her feet freeze.

Suddenly, Lang Xiao looks over from the crowd, seeming to spot her, waving happily.

Ning Xin’s heart tightens, without thinking, she reflexively ducks behind a tree.

To her surprise, the next moment, he’s crawling on all fours to her, grinning widely, and shouting, “Director!”

**Nomad: Noooo, it just keeps getting worse.   =͟͟͞͞(꒪ᗜ꒪‧̣̥̇) **

His attire was already attention-grabbing, and coupled with his strange behaviour, even more people start to look over.

Ning Xin almost wants to shrink into the tree trunk, shaking her head vigorously.

“Go back first, don’t say I’m here.”

She steals a glance at Nie Ran, thankfully, he’s busy collecting money and doesn’t have time to attend to anything else.

“Quickly, go back.”

She gives Lang Xiao another push.

The latter looks bewildered, not understanding her reaction. Seeing her firm attitude, he dejectedly returns to his original spot and continues standing there.

Ning Xin sees the expression on his face as he leaves and feels a twinge of guilt.

Nie Ran can already move freely among the crowd, but he can’t. To him, humans only represent hatred and terror. How much restraint did it take for him to endure being scrutinized by so many people until now?

Anyway, she had to take him away, couldn’t let Nie Ran lead him into trouble.

With this determination in mind, she waits until the customers thin out a bit, then walks decisively over.

Nie Ran was busy counting money with his head down, as if sensing something, he looks up, and their eyes meet.

Their gazes lock, and Nie Ran stands up.

Ning Xin stops in front of the stall, glancing over the underwear, suppressing her nervousness.

“You’re copying me, setting up a stall to sell underwear was my idea.”

Nie Ran furrows his brow slightly, the somewhat expectant look in his eyes turns lazy.

“So what? Are you going to shut down the stall?”

“That’s not necessary, anyway, I’m out of the industry now, but I have to take Lang Xiao with me.”

Nie Ran’s face darkens, “Why?”

“He’s not safe here.”

“Don’t you trust me to take care of him?”

“…I didn’t mean that. Don’t jump to conclusions.”

“The fact is, he’s been doing fine so far, better than when you were around.”

“Dressed like this, being watched by people, is this called living well?”

Ning Xin loses her patience and grabs Lang Xiao’s wrist directly.

“Let’s go. You should be going to the hospital with me, not messing around with him.”

Lang Xiao happily follows her, and if there were a tail behind him, it would surely wag happily.

Unexpectedly, Nie Ran grabs his other hand and says coldly, “You were the one who gave up on him first. Now you want to take him away? Is he your pet dog?”

The three of them stand in front of the stall, with piles of bras and underwear nearby.

Ning Xin suddenly has a strange feeling—she and Nie Ran are like divorced parents, constantly arguing over custody of their child.

“With your busy business, it’s troublesome to take him with you. Let me take care of him, and you focus on your business, isn’t that better?” She swallows her saliva, changing to a more tactful approach.

Nie Ran doesn’t buy it. “Not troublesome, not better.”

Ning Xin feels deflated, hugging her arms. “Then tell me, what should I do for you to let him go?”

Nie Ran doesn’t look at her, but instead scrutinizes Lang Xiao, as if wondering what qualities he has that make her care so much.

After a few seconds, he turns his head away, pulls Lang Xiao back, and squats on the ground to continue counting money.

Ning Xin’s brain races, taking a few steps forward and pointing at the stall.

“I’ll buy all these underwear!”

It’s just tens of thousands, she can afford it.

With no underwear to sell, he’ll leave eventually.

Nie Ran glances at her, his gaze landing perfectly on a certain spot, sneering.

“You won’t need them.”

“…That’s my business. Pack them all up for me and deliver them to the hotel.”

He withdraws his gaze coldly. “Sorry, not for sale.”

With that said, no matter how much Ning Xin tries to persuade, he refuses to respond, not even glancing at her, treating her as if she were invisible.

Ning Xin tries to grab Lang Xiao and run while he’s distracted, but he always manages to notice and stop her in advance.

She gets so frustrated that she makes a phone call, complaining about someone streaking here, disrupting the cityscape.

Before long, the urban management arrives in a small car, forcing them to close the stall.

Nie Ran packs the unsold underwear back into the snakeskin bag and puts it on the small cart.

With one hand pulling the cart and the other pulling Lang Xiao, they quietly walk away.

Ning Xin didn’t leave, fearing they would argue with the urban management, so she hid behind a tree and watched.

Seeing this scene, she felt a bit uneasy.

After all, Nie Ran hadn’t really done anything wrong. Was she being too harsh?

As she watched the two of them walking further away, she thought about apologizing and reconciling, to stop the argument and each give the other a way out.

But just as she was about to do so, a child ran up to her, asking in a childish voice, “Are you Ning Xin?”

She hesitated, “Yes.”

“Someone sent something for you.”

A package was handed to her, containing a sexy 36D bra.

After handing it over, the child ran off. Ning Xin stood behind the tree holding the bra, recalling Nie Ran’s previous words.

“You won’t need them.”

…This jerk, she felt guilty for what?

Ning Xin tossed the bra into the trash can and headed back to the hotel, walking quickly with a grim expression.

A few hundred meters away, Nie Ran withdrew his gaze, casually strolling with the cart.

Lang Xiao kept looking back, not wanting to go with him. His plastic bag emitted his reluctant call.

“Director…”

He couldn’t understand, “What’s so good about her anyway?”

Even though they hadn’t spent much time together and their relationship wasn’t deep, why did it make this “wolf-man” who had once killed without hesitation unable to forget her?

Lang Xiao pursed his lips, his cheeks slightly flushed.

“I like it when she holds me and teaches me to write.”

Being held by her, that woman’s embrace.

Soft, fragrant… in some wounded midnight, it seemed he had once possessed it.

She patiently and gently applied medicine for him, talked to him, nagged at him. She seemed to have no temper, yet she was as resilient as a blade of grass.

Ning Xin not only took root in Lang Xiao’s heart, but also quietly planted a seed within him.

The seed sprouted and grew, too small for him to notice.

But it would suddenly burst forth at certain moments, proclaiming its existence.

Nie Ran glanced back again, but Ning Xin had already left in the car, leaving no trace.

The city was big, and there were many people.

This place wasn’t theirs.

“Let’s go, I’ll treat you to something.”

Nie Ran rarely showed a good mood, leading him into a nearby hot pot restaurant, treating him to a good meal with the money they earned.

During the meal, they often received strange looks from people. So, as soon as they stepped out of the restaurant, they found a clothing store and bought him two sets of clothes and two pairs of shoes.

After Lang Xiao’s makeover, he looked no different from a normal person, even quite stunning. The passers-by no longer looked at him with disdain; instead, some even discreetly took out their phones to take pictures.

However, he still felt extremely uncomfortable. He kept pulling on the fisherman’s hat and mask that Nie Ran had bought for him, only revealing his eyes.

As the sky grew darker, it was time to rest.

They passed by a small inn, but Nie Ran hesitated to go in.

He didn’t want to sleep on dirty sheets or under a leaky showerhead.

Most importantly, he didn’t want to wake up next to the big idiot again.

Nie Ran looked up and saw the budget hotel where Ning Xin stayed. A thought stirred in his mind, but he couldn’t bring himself to move forward.

With more and more people taking sneak photos, Lang Xiao grew increasingly uneasy, clutching at his clothes.

“Let’s go.”

He glanced at the sky, knowing that if they didn’t leave soon, they would run out of time. He gritted his teeth, ready to leave and find a random small inn to stay in. But suddenly, a surprised voice came from ahead.

“What are you doing here?”

He turned around and saw Ning Xin standing there.

After returning and taking a nap, Ning Xin planned to go out for food but unexpectedly encountered them, her brows furrowing in confusion.

Lang Xiao breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing her, as if he had encountered a saviour, and hurried over.

She glanced at the moon, which was about to rise, and whispered, “Let’s talk inside first.”

With the front desk undergoing a shift change, the three of them quickly slipped into the elevator while it was unguarded.

As soon as they entered the room, Ning Xin began closing the windows and curtains.

Nie Ran said there was no need, then went to the bathroom to search. Finding no bucket, he found a dirty laundry basket, made Lang Xiao shrink down, covered him with a sheet and blanket, and tied it up.

Ning Xin was somewhat uneasy and paced around several times.

“Will this work?”

“We used this method yesterday.”

“Oh, okay.”

She sat on the mattress, feeling a bit restless.

An awkward atmosphere pervaded the air, one they hadn’t experienced since becoming acquainted.

“Cough, cough…”

She cleared her throat, struggling to find something to say. “How was business today? How much did you earn?”

Nie Ran stood by the window, feeling the night breeze. “Thanks to you, we didn’t incur any losses.”

She chuckled awkwardly. “Should I reimburse you then? How much for the remaining inventory?”

Ning Xin had already started estimating the prices based on experience, but Nie Ran pushed the lingerie to the corner. “No need.”

She had gathered her courage to speak frankly, but his response made her turn cold. “It seems like you’re prepared to continue like this? Fine, I have no objections. Since we’re all forced to live together, let’s just follow the rules in the future, and let’s not talk about any feelings.”

Nie Ran lowered his head to look at her. “What is the situation between us?”

Ning Xin shrugged. “What do you think? I thought we were friends, but now it seems that being friends is not possible.”

“We indeed cannot be friends.”

“Huh?”

Nie Ran reached out and lifted her chin, staring at her rosy, soft lips. His mouth felt dry, and he involuntarily swallowed. “Let’s get married.”

I understand she’s got no experience in having friends so she’s awkward when interacting and doesn’t know how to reconcile after a small fight, but she is the one responsible for Lang Xiao! She’s responsible for anything and everything that happens to him. First, she just let NR take him away when they had their fight. Then, even though she saw clearly LX was super uncomfortable and being watched by people, instead of going to a shop to buy him some clothes so he can get less attention, ask him if he had food, if he’s OK etc, she cares about going on and arguing with NR. She really shouldn’t be allowed to be a director. She’s just a child playing house with some other children who never received a day of proper love and care. She gave them a bit of attention and conquered their scarred hearts and somehow became the director. Ugh. I don’t even know what the heck the author was thinking. I know it’s fiction but this is the same as those authors who make physically disabled ppl somehow become better and heal the illness that made them disabled. Just that the healer in this case is even worse than in those books. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m really annoyed that I can’t leave books unfinished since this hasn’t exactly crossed any bottom lines as the author never said the two patients are healed with this sort of care. 😮‍💨
