LLASBWUH Chapter 27

Is Baby Spicy?

During these days each month, her husband became incredibly useful.

Just like now!

Ning Yi sat in the wheelchair, rolling with impressive agility, while Gu Cheng trailed behind, holding his stomach with a dark expression.

By now, changing pads and dealing with cramps had become second nature to Gu Cheng. He no longer even found it absurd.

Clutching his stomach, he could even predict the sequence of events: the dull pain would slowly intensify over the next two days, come and go unpredictably, and finally subside.

He was experienced now.

At least the pain would be over before the business trip.

Ning Yi: “I’ll leave the pain for you, and take all the love for myself.” (Cue affectionate expression)

She looked at him with heartfelt concern. “Hubby, if you don’t want to go to the Wen family’s banquet, then don’t. I’ll eat for you—you just need to make an appearance.”

Gu Cheng, still clutching his stomach, sneered coldly. “Ah Yi, I wouldn’t feel at ease leaving you alone.”

After all, how could she not realize what it would mean if Gu Cheng visited the Wen family alone, without her? Those gossipy idiots in high society already loved talking behind her back.

Holding his stomach, Gu Cheng shot Ning Yi a faint glance.

She might know how to flirt with him, but when it came to critical matters, her brain simply didn’t engage.

What a pampered fool.

Ning Yi, of course, had already guessed he would go.

A man like Gu Cheng—dark, calculating, and paranoid—would never allow his body to stray too far from his control!

“Alright, alright,” Ning Yi said sweetly. “But make sure to listen to me later. Don’t eat anything strange, hubby.”

That way, she could use his body to eat freely and boldly.

Limited-time affection for her husband (cramp edition).

Gu Cheng: “…”

At the Wen family’s villa, Wen Zheli stood at the entrance, greeting guests.

The moment she saw Gu Cheng, the frustration she’d harboured over the past few days, along with the resentment she’d felt from Ding Ziyue’s subtle mockery, vanished instantly.

He came!

And his expression was calm, without a trace of reluctance!

Wen Zheli gazed at “Gu Cheng” with deep affection.

At that moment, Ning Yi, in Gu Cheng’s body, perfectly captured the aura of a domineering CEO—silent, aloof, and letting everyone else fill in the blanks for his thoughts.

This was exactly the Gu Cheng Wen Zheli knew and adored! She’d always believed he had feelings for her. After all, she was the most special woman in his life.

Wen Zheli quickly instructed someone to announce Gu Cheng’s arrival at the Wen family home.

News spread like wildfire throughout the elite circles of A City: Gu Cheng had actually visited the Wen family!

[See? The Gu and Wen families are old family friends—what strong ties!]

[Haha, Ning Yi’s position looks shaky now.]

Meanwhile, Ding Ziyue, who had just started to recover emotionally, was thrown into turmoil once again.

This news would surely make Wen Zheli unbearably smug! At the jewellery event, Ding Ziyue’s design hadn’t been purchased by Gu Cheng, and Wen Zheli had been subtly mocking her about it ever since.

Just as Ding Ziyue was about to put down her phone, a message from Wen Zheli arrived lightning-fast.

[Yue Yue, you should cherish that jewellery piece you bought from me. I’ll make sure to mention it to Gu Cheng during dinner later.]

Ding Ziyue slammed her phone down: This green tea b****!

Feeling vindicated after her subtle jab at Ding Ziyue, Wen Zheli’s mood soared.

But just as she looked up, she saw the other car door open, and Ning Yi stepped out.

The smile on Wen Zheli’s face froze. Gu Cheng brought her here?

This was a family banquet, and with the ties between the two families, Ning Yi’s status wasn’t enough to warrant an invitation.

Wen Zheli’s mood soured.

But then, upon closer inspection, she noticed that “Ning Yi” didn’t look well. Her complexion was pale, and she discreetly held her lower abdomen as she walked.

Wen Zheli’s smile returned.

Feeling unwell, yet still lacking Gu Cheng’s care and being forced to push his wheelchair?

This was clearly Ning Yi’s pitiful position in Gu Cheng’s life. How laughable.

Gu Cheng, clutching his stomach, remained silent.

Even with painkillers, the cramps persisted, leaving him weak and irritable.

Women are such trouble.

Ignoring the real Gu Cheng behind her, Wen Zheli approached “Ning Yi” warmly. “Aunt Song Lan, Brother Gu Cheng, come in quickly. I’ve been waiting for… you both for so long.”

Ning Yi, exuding a kingly air, simply replied, “Mm.”

The colder the response, the more it resembled Gu Cheng’s typical demeanour—perfect!

Wen Zheli, delighted by the familiar aloofness, beamed with satisfaction.

Ning Yi: Living as a domineering CEO? Secretly thrilled.

The group stepped into the Wen family’s elegant dining hall.

Since the Gu family had been invited, the Wen family had gone all out, hiring a renowned chef to prepare the dinner, as a gesture of sincerity.

Ning Yi: Great, great, great.

The food was already looking better than what the Ding family had served previously!

Ning Yi unilaterally declared the current battle between Ding Ziyue and Wen Zheli a victory for Wen Zheli.

While Father and Mother Wen exchanged pleasantries with Song Lan, Wen Zheli stood to the side, casting longing glances at “Gu Cheng.”

Ning Yi, however, mentally tuned out the woman’s stares, focusing instead on the dishes laid out on the table.

In her head, she reminded Gu Cheng: “Hubby, don’t eat anything spicy or drink anything cold later, okay?”

Gu Cheng replied indifferently, “Mm.”

He didn’t eat those things anyway.

Ning Yi’s voice was filled with concern: “You have to take care of your body! Otherwise, the pain will get worse.”

Gu Cheng remained silent for two seconds before responding, “Mm.”

Although objectively, she was talking about her own body, the tone of her concern sounded… surprisingly pleasant to his ears.

“Got it,” he replied coldly.

As the meal began, Gu Cheng quietly stood and went to fetch hot water from a servant.

He wasn’t particularly interested in food, and Ning Yi’s body had so many restrictions that it was better to just stick with hot water.

Based on his limited understanding of women—hot water during that time of the month was always a safe bet.

All eyes at the table were on “Gu Cheng,” so no one paid attention to what “Ning Yi” was doing.

However, as Gu Cheng walked down the hallway of the Wen family’s villa, he was intercepted by Wen Zheli, who had been waiting there.

She looked at the “Ning Yi” in front of her.

No longer dressed in the glamorous attire from the jewellery event, the person before her appeared pale and weak. Yet, Wen Zheli had to admit that this face was still beautiful.

Despite her efforts to convince herself that Ning Yi wasn’t worthy of being her rival, a surge of jealousy rose within her.

Why does Gu Cheng seem to have a particular fondness for this woman?

No matter the reason, Wen Zheli wanted to ensure Ning Yi didn’t harbour any misunderstandings or unrealistic fantasies.

After all, any attention gained through mere appearances would eventually fade.

In their world of elites, what mattered most were alliances of interest, matching family backgrounds, and equal capabilities.

And what did Ning Yi have?

Gu Cheng would inevitably leave her.

The woman best suited for him had already been determined long ago.

With an air of superiority, Wen Zheli said, “Miss Ning, you might not know this, but I understand Brother Gu Cheng better than anyone. During those years abroad, I came to know him even better than his own parents.”

Gu Cheng, expressionless: “Where’s the hot water?”

Wen Zheli smiled, undeterred. So she didn’t want to listen? That only made her more determined to make her face reality.

“Ning Yi—” she deliberately addressed her by name, “I hope you understand one thing. In our world, only interests and arranged marriages are reliable. You don’t truly know Gu Cheng. At his core, he’s cold and devoid of love. He won’t give you the kind of affection you want, so don’t get your hopes up.”

Gu Cheng actually agreed with this assessment.

At least his image in the eyes of others was accurate.

Indeed, he had no intention of giving Ning Yi any real preferential treatment—Gu Cheng thought coldly, clutching his cramping stomach.

“So,” he asked blandly, “where’s the hot water?”

Wen Zheli assumed Ning Yi was trying to evade the conversation and felt even more confident in her stance.

In a tone full of self-assurance, she continued, “Can’t handle hearing the truth? Staying by Gu Cheng’s side will only bring you more challenges. Do you know his preferences? His dining habits? How long he works every day? Do you know what he needs most when he’s tired from work—”

Gu Cheng: What is it?

“It’s someone like me,” Wen Zheli declared, her eyes brimming with warmth. “Someone who can silently stay by his side, provide him with advice, and ease his work stress.”

At this point, her gaze softened. “And I know that there’s always been a place for me in Gu Cheng’s heart.”

The fact that he came to the Wen family today was proof of that—an unmistakable statement to the entire elite circle.

Gu Cheng didn’t care to listen any further.

While Wen Zheli was marginally smarter than Ding Ziyue, she wasn’t far from being just as foolish.

Push yourself a bit more, and you might reach her level.

Gu Cheng turned to leave and find the hot water himself.

“Ning Yi, care to make a bet?” Wen Zheli suddenly called out to him.

“If I can guess all of his preferences during dinner, you’ll withdraw from his side. Do you dare?”

Gu Cheng: Are you kidding me?

Never provoke a man with cramps.

The irritation nearly made him want to flip the person in front of him.

He stopped, turned back, and gave her a cold, piercing look. “If you lose, will you kneel and apologize to me?”

Wen Zheli’s eyes widened. “You?!”

She was about to get angry but quickly reconsidered.

Of course, someone from such a small background would lack manners! How could someone like Ning Yi compare to her, a noblewoman of high status?

Wen Zheli’s smile returned, and with a condescending tone, she replied, “If you make the bet, I’ll personally fetch you the hot water.”

Gu Cheng placed a hand on Ning Yi’s perpetually aching lower abdomen and said, “Alright.”

A few minutes later, Gu Cheng sipped from a cup of hot water, letting the warmth ease the stubborn pain in his stomach.

Wen Zheli led him back to the dining area, ready to fulfil their bet.

At the dining table, Ning Yi, currently in Gu Cheng’s body, was fully focused on devouring her meal with great enthusiasm.

Gu Cheng’s lips curled slightly in amusement.

Wen Zheli, gazing at the perfect side profile of “Gu Cheng” at the table, confidently began listing his preferences:

“Brother Gu Cheng never eats overly spicy or greasy food.”

Ning Yi, wielding her fork and knife, cut into a piece of fatty, glistening roasted pork and slowly popped it into her mouth.

Wen Zheli’s expression faltered briefly, but she continued.

“Brother Gu Cheng doesn’t drink cold beverages after meals.”

Ning Yi raised her glass in a cheerful toast and downed a chilled grape wine in one gulp, her Adam’s apple moving with every sip.

The smile on Wen Zheli’s face cracked slightly.

“Brother Gu Cheng doesn’t talk during meals.”

Ning Yi speared a piece of lotus root and offered it to Song Lan. “Mom, try this.”

Song Lan, pleasantly surprised, accepted it with a smile. “Thank you, Ah Cheng.”

Wen Zheli’s face turned completely pale. She avoided looking at “Ning Yi,” but still pressed on:

“Brother Gu Cheng… always stands after meals and never sits for too long.”

At this, Gu Cheng himself couldn’t help but glance at Wen Zheli with an expression that screamed, Are you an idiot?

How exactly is he supposed to stand right now?

He hadn’t even regained full use of his legs yet.

Wen Zheli was starting to lose her composure—Why? Why has everything changed?

Her pride in knowing Gu Cheng better than anyone was crumbling. If she didn’t have that, was she still the most special woman in his life? Could she still stir his feelings for her?

“I… Brother Gu Cheng must have changed after being bedridden for years. That has to be it!”

Gu Cheng shot her a cold glance. “It’s your brain that’s changed.”

With that, he turned and left, leaving Wen Zheli standing there, face pale and lips trembling.

Ning Yi paid no attention to the commotion outside.

She was still diligently embodying the aura of a domineering CEO—cutting into a piece of pork knuckle and elegantly bringing it to her mouth.

The image of “Young Master Gu eating pork knuckle” was executed with such flawless table manners that it erased any sense of incongruity.

Ning Yi shook her head in quiet admiration of herself.

Graceful. I’m so graceful.

Gracefulness never goes out of style. √

When Wen Zheli eventually returned to the dining table, her face was pale, and her eyes were filled with dismay.

Father and Mother Wen, noticing her distress, felt a pang of concern. They had originally intended to subtly hint at the possibility of a union between the two families during the banquet. But seeing Wen Zheli’s state, they weren’t so sure anymore.

Meanwhile, Ding Ziyue, who had been keeping a close eye on the Wen family dinner, caught wind of what had happened—Master Gu Cheng had only shown up to eat and hadn’t exchanged a single meaningful word with Wen Zheli!

Thrilled, Ding Ziyue quickly picked up her phone and sent Wen Zheli a message:

[Zheli, did Master Gu Cheng enjoy the meal at your house?]

[Why didn’t you manage to keep him after dinner?]

This time, it was Wen Zheli’s turn to slam her phone down.

Ding Ziyue’s mood soared. How amusing. Who does Wen Zheli think she is, daring to compete with me?

She didn’t realize that this entire world was designed to favour her. The upcoming chapters would ensure she remained the most pampered one.

Master Gu Cheng was heading to S City for a summit soon, and Jiang Linyi would be bringing her along! Jiang Linyi, who was a huge fan of Wander, the popular gaming streamer and esports player, had even promised to let her join in a game with Wander. It would surely land her on the trending charts again!

Even better, Jiang Linyi was planning to buy them a love nest in S City—specifically, one of the luxury river-view apartments developed by the Gu family.

And Ning Yi? She’d surely tag along with Master Gu Cheng to S City since she didn’t have her own invitation. Ding Ziyue looked forward to watching Ning Yi witness her move into her love nest—a river-view apartment worth as much as Ning Yi’s jadeite!

She would reclaim her status as the most pampered woman.

Meanwhile, Ning Yi, blissfully unaware of the battles being fought over her, finished her meal in high spirits.

The chef’s Sichuan cuisine was right up her alley—spicy but irresistibly delicious!

As she and Gu Cheng left the dining area together, she said brightly, “Hubby, I tried everything on the table, good and bad. I focused on the really tasty dishes. Don’t worry—your nutrition is under my protection! A comprehensive, multi-element diet!”

Gu Cheng, expressionless, pushed her wheelchair.

“Ah Yi, are you full?”

“Mm-hmm, I’m stuffed, hubby.”

Ning Yi declared herself full but sneaked another bite into her mouth.

After chewing a few times, she elegantly spit it out into a napkin.

Couldn’t finish it. Goodbye.

“Hubby, let’s switch back now~”

Gu Cheng lowered his gaze at her. “Not afraid of the pain anymore?”

Ning Yi humbly replied, “I had to hold on for a while to help you. We’re a loving couple who weather life’s storms together. That’s what true love is about!”

Gu Cheng: “Heh.”

He had just finished two cups of hot water, and the painkillers had started to take effect. The constant dull ache in his abdomen had temporarily subsided.

The current wave of cramps was over, though the next one was probably brewing.

Gu Cheng allowed her to switch back. Once they did, he returned to sitting in the wheelchair.

“Wow, hubby, my tummy doesn’t hurt anymore! You took such great care of it! You’re truly the best husband in the world!”

Gu Cheng let her babble, leaning back lazily in his chair.

Suddenly, his phone screen lit up. At the same time, Ning Yi’s phone rang behind him.

He glanced at her briefly but didn’t pay much attention.

His call was from Assistant Zhou, while the message on Ning Yi’s phone was from Zhao Weining:

[Ning Jie, the organizers really hope you can come! A lot of investors want to meet you, and so do your fans!]

[Are you sure you won’t come? They said they’d reserve a room for you!]

Ning Yi chuckled to herself.

Why wouldn’t I go? Of course, I’ll go—just under a different identity. ^_^

On Gu Cheng’s call, Assistant Zhou was asking, “Young Master, will you and Madam be sharing a room?”

Ever-efficient Assistant Zhou had already booked first-class tickets for their trip to S City, ensuring the entire first-class section was reserved to avoid any disturbances. Now, he was checking on hotel arrangements.

“The summit has a five-star hotel with a romantic couple’s presidential suite! Should I upgrade your room—”

“…” Gu Cheng paused for a moment. “No.”

Assistant Zhou immediately concluded: If the Young Master really didn’t want it, he’d scold me, not answer so calmly.

A good assistant must be flexible and perceptive!

Got it!

Gu Cheng hung up the call with a cold expression and turned to look at Ning Yi, sneering.

A couple’s presidential suite? What a joke.

“I’ll be busy during the trip and won’t have time to stay with you. Feel free to do your own thing, but don’t swap bodies with me lightly,” Gu Cheng said, exuding an air of arrogance. “I’m very busy.”

Ning Yi thought: Busy? What are you even pretending for? I’m busy too, okay?! Don’t underestimate me!

After speaking, Gu Cheng pushed his wheelchair forward, but something felt off.

His stomach didn’t hurt anymore… but why did his mouth?

Ning Yi, sensing danger, took a small step to the side.

“…Ning Yi,” Gu Cheng called her name with a low, ominous tone. “What did you eat?”

Ning Yi stuck out her tongue sheepishly. “I couldn’t resist… just tried a little side dish.”

Gu Cheng felt a bad premonition. “What side dish?”

Ning Yi looked shy as she confessed, “Indian ghost pepper.”

“…?”

Bright red and oh-so-tempting—how could I resist? Hehe. Didn’t expect it to be this spicy.

“…?”

“Don’t worry, hubby, the spice doesn’t hit immediately! It takes a few minutes to kick in!”

Ning Yi bolted off like a flash.

“Sweetheart will go get you some water right now!”

Let the bullet fly for a while!

A few seconds later, Gu Cheng’s eyes turned red, and a single tear fell.

“NING YI!!”

The bodyguards behind him exchanged glances:

—The boss is about to cry again for his wife!

—Crying for love, the Young Master looks so pitiful!
