PACFPE Chapter 14

With enough supplies, Ruan Ning’s days passed relatively comfortably. If it weren’t for the increasingly gloomy sky outside and the occasional eerie screams from unknown sources, one wouldn’t even realize she was living in the apocalypse, with life still far from secure.

Taking advantage of the recent free time, Ruan Ning studied the maps of City S and several surrounding provinces, intending to find a safe base for her future.

Staying in City S was not a long-term solution, especially since she was in the second ring area near the city centre. The danger level in her neighbourhood was currently relatively low, but with more zombies later on, it would inevitably fall just like No. 1 Middle School in the city.

She had to leave before that happened.

On the fifth day of the apocalypse, the tap in her house suddenly stopped running water.

Ruan Ning was prepared; she had filled every available container with water while it was still available, and even took a comfortable hot bath in advance.

After all, bathing would become a luxurious thing in the apocalypse, especially showers. No one would waste water like that.

Because before long, the water sources in this world would be contaminated. If you take or come into contact with too much of this polluted water, your whole body will slowly fester and die.

Clean water sources were hard to find; humans barely had enough to drink, let alone using it for bathing. Even in safe bases, most clean water resources were provided daily by water based ability users.

However… Ruan Ning hadn’t decided whether she wanted to go to a safe base or which one she should go to.

If she didn’t want to go to a safe base, she would have to collect more supplies and more water to ensure her survival in the apocalypse.

If she wanted to go to a safe base, there were still many problems to solve.

Firstly, with her frail body, she not only had to deal with zombies along the way but also guard against those unkind fellows. Whether she could make it to a safe base was still a question. Secondly, even if she reached a safe base, being an ordinary person without powers, without status and position, coupled with such an excessively beautiful face attracting unwanted attention, she would have to think twice even about taking out the resources in her space. How would she live there?

Actually, if she could, Ruan Ning would love to stay alone in this apartment for the rest of her life. She hated dealing with all sorts of troublesome matters the most in her life, but in the apocalypse, it was impossible for her to remain completely aloof.

That night, the light bulbs in her house suddenly began to flicker, flashing for about half an hour before directly going out.

Since the fifth day of the apocalypse, City S had been plunged into a complete water and power outage crisis.

Ruan Ning knew the plot and had prepared in advance. The water and power outage didn’t have much impact on her, but not everyone would have such foresight.

On the seventh day of the apocalypse, Ruan Ning saw through the external surveillance that someone passed by the corridor on the ninth floor, a tall man whose face she couldn’t see clearly. However, he didn’t come to Ruan Ning’s room; he just stayed near the safe passage on the ninth floor for more than ten minutes before leaving in a hurry. He must have been avoiding zombies.

Ruan Ning understood. Many people hoped that the government would send people to rescue them, so they didn’t ration at the beginning. It was only when there wasn’t much food left in their homes and no military personnel came to rescue them that they regretted it.

This man wasn’t the first to go out, nor would he be the last. Soon, more and more people would be forced by livelihoods to come out in search of food.

However, most people still had a bit of kindness in their hearts, only borrowing or going to nearby supermarkets or convenience stores to find food. As more zombies appeared later on and the food available nearby decreased, there were also quite a few who resorted to entering homes to kill and steal food.

The order was gradually collapsing, and everyone was in danger in the apocalypse.

As far as Ruan Ning knew, on the tenth day of the apocalypse, the zombies would undergo their first evolution, giving rise to Tier 1 zombies. They would have speeds comparable to those of ordinary people walking fast and greatly enhanced attack capabilities.

Human survival would become increasingly difficult. It was also at this time that a crystal nucleus would appear in the skulls of Tier 1 zombies. This nucleus not only helped mutants upgrade and replenish their powers but also became the primary currency in the safe bases of the apocalypse.
