PACFPE Chapter 34

After eliminating the mutant zombie, Gu Yicheng quickly walked over to Ruan Ning and crouched down to check on her condition.

—Ruan Ning’s condition looked quite bad.

She was wearing a long-sleeved shirt today, and now the light blue jacket was stained red.

Not only that, but Ruan Ning had also sprained her foot when she fell just now, and it was hurting badly.

Gu Yicheng just wanted to help her up from the ground, but Ruan Ning was in so much pain that tears were welling up in her eyes. Her innocent face, now tearful, looked particularly pitiful. “Brother…”

“It’s all my fault,” Gu Yicheng said, a hint of irritation between his brows.

He hadn’t intended for her to get hurt.

Ruan Ning was in so much pain that even her heart ached. Still, she managed to use her uninjured hand to pull Gu Yicheng, softly saying, “It’s not your fault, Brother. The zombie didn’t hurt me. This injury is from me falling accidentally. I’m really not in pain…” Sniffle, sniffle, I’m not in pain, my foot! It hurts like hell!!

This was the first time Ruan Ning had been injured after the apocalypse, and she hadn’t expected it to be so severe all of a sudden.

Today, she finally realized how fragile this body was. When Ruan Ning had fallen during physical education classes before, her entire knee would swell up, but it hadn’t hurt as much as it did now.

“Ruan Ning, are you okay?” Noticing the situation here, after finishing off the surrounding zombies with Jiang Jingchao, Lin Yang quickly ran over, asking with concern.

“I’m fine.” Ruan Ning weakly pursed her lips, her voice somewhat aggrieved. “It’s all my fault for delaying you.”

Lin Yang looked anxious. “Ruan Ning, why talk about delaying or not? The most important thing now is to treat your wound. Otherwise, it might get infected.”

Watching the pale-faced girl beside him, Gu Yicheng frowned and bent down, reaching out to lift her up effortlessly.

Ruan Ning had been grimacing in pain, but she didn’t expect Gu Yicheng to suddenly make such a move. Startled, she let out a soft cry and, out of fear, instinctively wrapped her arms around Gu Yicheng’s neck, afraid of falling from above.

Gu Yicheng felt a bit tight in his embrace, but he didn’t feel any displeasure this time. He addressed the other two, saying, “Let’s return to the safe zone now.”

Gu Yicheng hadn’t come to the factory just out of sheer boredom to kill zombies. His main goal, or rather the initial goal, was to collect supplies.

This was a meat processing factory, and because of the large number of zombies here, there were still quite a few supplies left in its warehouse that hadn’t been taken by anyone. Moreover, warehouses in such factories had the ability to store frozen meat, so the supplies inside should still be intact.

The information about this supply point was something Gu Yicheng had seen in a work report in his past life. However, at that time, because the warehouse of this factory had been without power for too long, all the meat in the warehouse had rotted and started to stink. The team that had been sent to collect supplies had to return empty-handed in the end.

The reason Gu Yicheng had come this time was to collect these supplies before going to City B. It was also to prepare for the future when they would go to the Hope Base in the Imperial Capital.

But now, they would have to come back to this warehouse another day.

Gu Yicheng didn’t hesitate and carried the person in his arms onto the car, then quickly left the factory.

****

There were gauze and ointment in the car, but because Ruan Ning’s injury was on her arm, she couldn’t apply the medicine herself. So, this task had to be taken over by Gu Yicheng, who was sitting in the back seat.

Ruan Ning struggled to take off the jacket, gasping in pain, and then rolled up her sleeve to reveal the injured area.

Sure enough, the skin on the outer side of her left arm had been scraped raw by the small stones, looking like a mess of flesh and blood.

Ruan Ning, who had never suffered such a “serious” injury before, couldn’t bear to look at it.

“If it hurts, just say so.”

This was Gu Yicheng’s first time applying medicine to a girl. The girl in front of him seemed especially delicate. Even the slightest pressure made her eyes well up with tears, though she didn’t cry or fuss. She just kept staring at him with her clear, wide eyes. Her fragile appearance made Gu Yicheng, who was usually skilled in everything, feel unexpectedly awkward and unsure of what to do for the first time.

Finally, after finishing the bandaging, Ruan Ning let out a sigh of relief.

The trip back from the factory took significantly less time than the journey there.

On the way back, whenever they encountered zombies, Gu Yicheng didn’t bother using firearms anymore. Instead, he impatiently used his powers, cutting down several zombies at once. His ability to kill zombies far outpaced any weaponry.

Ruan Ning watched from the side, filled with both admiration and amazement.

Since the factory and the safe zone were both on the outskirts of the city, there weren’t as many zombies compared to the downtown area, so their vehicle smoothly returned to the safe zone.

Ruan Ning looked at the man who had already walked over to her car door, his eyes downcast, his deep-set features shadowed. Nervously, she stammered, “Brother… I, I can actually walk by myself.”

As she spoke, she hurriedly tried to prove she could walk, scrambling out of her seat. But in the process, she accidentally pulled at her wound, gasping in pain, with a few involuntary tears gathering at the corners of her eyes.

“Do you not want your foot anymore?” Gu Yicheng’s expression turned cold. Without waiting for her to say anything further, he picked her up without a word.

Ruan Ning, feeling embarrassed, had been fine when it was just the few of them earlier. But now, back in the safe zone, being carried by the male lead made her feel a bit self-conscious.

To make matters worse, she suddenly remembered she wasn’t wearing her mask.

Ruan Ning hesitated for a moment, but then decided to just go all in. She buried her face in Gu Yicheng’s chest, surrendering to the situation.
