SFTIAAB Chapter 6

The two of them sat in the sports car, and Lan Qiming quickly started the engine with a press on the accelerator, speeding off into the distance.

Jiang Miaomiao had never been in such a fast car before and was afraid of crashing. She quickly fastened her seatbelt. Before she could raise her head, she heard the person beside her say, “We’ve arrived.”

Arrived? Already?

She looked outside and indeed, the familiar red storefront of Meiyijia was right in front of them. The store’s entrance was open, clearly abandoned by people who had fled the city.

A few zombies were wandering around in the distance, but under the scorching sun, they hadn’t noticed them.

Lan Qiming whispered, “Get out of the car, take as much as you can. We have three minutes.”

If they were found by zombies after getting out of the car, they might not be able to return…

But since they were here, they might as well give it a try.

Jiang Miaomiao gritted her teeth and rushed out, with Lan Qiming closely following and inadvertently protecting her with his body.

Once they entered the convenience store, he immediately closed the door behind them and took out a dozen bags from under the cashier’s counter, giving half of them to Jiang Miaomiao.

Jiang Miaomiao was amazed, “Are you so familiar with this place? Are you in this line of work?”

“Robbing convenience stores? Grabbing some food and then running away? If I had the time, I’d just rob a bank directly.”

Jiang Miaomiao was shocked, “You’ve robbed a bank before?”

He rolled his eyes and patted her head, “Don’t waste time, hurry up and grab things.”

What should she take? The shelves were filled with a wide variety of delicious snacks.

Jiang Miaomiao hesitated for two seconds before remembering that this was not a shopping trip. She opened the bags and started stuffing them with items.

With only four hands between them, they quickly filled up the bags.

As they were about to leave, she passed by the cashier’s counter and saw a greenish oily color inside. Upon closer inspection, she found a pot of bean sprouts.

The store used to sell soy milk, so the staff would soak soybeans in a basin, ready for grinding.

Perhaps they had left in a hurry and forgot about the pot of small beans.

Lan Qiming opened the door, placing all the bags into the car.

Jiang Miaomiao rushed over and threw the things she had in her hands into the car, saying in a hurry, “Wait for me for three seconds.”

Then she ran back inside.

When she came out again, she was holding a pot of bean sprouts, half a bag of soybeans, and several courier boxes.

She got into the car, closed the door, and gasped, “Drive quickly! It seems like the zombies spotted me!”

Lan Qiming suppressed his confusion and thought they could discuss it later.

The sports car sped away, rushing back to the villa. Jin Banti and the other zombies hadn’t returned yet. They smoothly opened the door and returned home.

Everything happened so quickly that their minds hadn’t caught up yet, and they had successfully replenished their supplies.

Looking at the plastic bags filled with items in front of her, Jiang Miaomiao couldn’t help but lie down on the ground and laugh.

Lan Qiming lit a cigarette and squatted down, saying, “Don’t laugh like a fool. Take a look at what we’ve brought back.”

That’s right; if there were good items, she needed to hide them immediately and not let him grab them.

Jiang Miaomiao sat up, opened the first plastic bag.

Two bags of potato chips, three packs of biscuits, six packs of dried beans, ten five-spiced eggs.

The second plastic bag contained five packs of instant noodles, four boxes of cookies, six bottles of yogurt.

The third plastic bag had eight cans of chewing gum, four boxes…

She saw several rectangular boxes and thought they were chewing gum. As she went closer to read the words on them, her face turned red, and she threw them into the trash can.

“Why do you just throw things inside without checking? You’re wasting space!”

Jiang Miaomiao grumbled.

Lan Qiming understood her at a glance, “That’s what you packed.”

“Impossible.”

He couldn’t be bothered to argue with her and threw two full bags in front of her.

“These are yours.”

Curiously, Jiang Miaomiao opened the bags and found that they were all sanitary napkins.

Two full bags, more than ten packs, enough for her to use for several months.

At that time, they were in such a rush that they didn’t have time to choose. They just grabbed whatever they saw.

She herself didn’t even remember that she needed to take these things, but he remembered and specially packed two large bags for her.

Jiang Miaomiao couldn’t help but feel moved and handed him a pack of spicy duck necks.

“Thanks, from now on, eat whatever you want. I won’t stop you.”

He sneered as if he didn’t care, continuing to sort out the other bags.

It took them almost half an hour to organize everything.

Instant noodles, 45 packs + 16 cups.

Self-heating rice, 10 boxes.

Biscuits, 38 bags.

Beverages, 43 bottles.

Candies, 26 packs.

Spicy sticks, 18 packs.

Meat snacks, 36 packs.

There were also some other small items that were hard to quantify, such as preserved fruits, dried fruits, and instant beverages, totaling about thirty or forty items.

In total, there were over two hundred food items. After removing dozens of expired ones, they were left with exactly two hundred items, enough to last them ten days to half a month.

They didn’t have to worry about starving for the time being.

With much less pressure on her mind, Jiang Miaomiao felt much lighter.

Lan Qiming packed the food into cardboard boxes and moved them to the basement. When he came back and saw the pot of bean sprouts on the floor, he asked, “Why did you bring this back?”

“To eat, of course.”

Jiang Miaomiao hadn’t eaten proper vegetables for a long time, and seeing the bean sprouts made her mouth water.

“Can these be eaten?” Lan Qiming looked puzzled.

“This kind of bean sprouts, of course not. They’re already grown up; you need to change the soil and let them continue growing. They will eventually produce beans. As for soybeans, you can eat them directly. Put them in water, boil them in a pot, or use some sand or something to grow soybean sprouts. Then you can stir-fry and eat them.”

She was quite excited about it.

Lan Qiming frowned, “Are you sure?”

“Haven’t you ever grown bean sprouts for fun when you were a child? What a miserable childhood you had. Just wait, in a couple of days, I’ll let you taste the bean sprouts grown by your big sister.”

Saying this, Jiang Miaomiao waved her hand, “Step aside, step aside. I’m going to open the package.”

In the post-apocalyptic world, there was no online shopping, and she hadn’t experienced the joy of opening packages for a long time.

The convenience store offered a package collection service, but the owner didn’t come to collect the packages before fleeing. So whenever she saw them, she couldn’t resist bringing them back.

I wonder what treasures are inside. It’s really exciting!

Jiang Miaomiao found a paper knife and cut open the tape.

Lan Qiming stood behind her, curious about what might be inside.

When she opened the cardboard box, she closed her eyes and silently chanted “Hot Dry Noodles” repeatedly.

Unfortunately, there were no familiar packaging of hot dry noodles inside, but a dark gray box instead.

Frowning, she opened the box and took out a black, flat rectangular object.

“What is this?”

Lan Qiming picked up the box and looked at the instructions on it.

“It’s a solar-powered charger.”

“A solar-powered charger? Can it be charged directly using sunlight? That’s great!”

Even more practical than hot dry noodles! Her phone would finally not be just a decoration!

Jiang Miaomiao immediately jumped up and ran upstairs, bringing out her long-unused phone and eagerly connected it to the solar charger.

The phone screen lit up, and it was indeed charging!

She was overjoyed, holding the phone downstairs and continuing to open the remaining packages, hoping for more surprises.

Unfortunately, her luck had run out. She only found a few kitchen hooks, a router (which was useless since there was no internet nowadays), and a bottle of La Mer face cream.

The hooks were of no use, and they only needed pots and pans in their kitchen.

The router was even more useless, as there was no internet service available these days.

The face cream, however, was something she could use. She hadn’t even applied basic moisturizer like Da Bao in days, and her face had become quite dry.

Feeling happy again, Jiang Miaomiao hummed a tune as she ran back to her room. Her steps were so light, as if she wasn’t living in a post-apocalyptic world full of zombies but rather going on a spring outing.

Lan Qiming shook his head as he watched her leave and sat down on a chair, taking out a few packs of cigarettes from a corner.

Since he rarely went out, he had to stock up on some supplies for himself.

The zombies outside the courtyard were still wandering aimlessly. After all the sanitary napkins were taken away, Gold Half Butt had a pad stuck to its back. Consequently, the whole zombie was quite disoriented. Even though it could smell the scent, it couldn’t locate the source and kept wandering around the window.

Jiang Miaomiao held the solar charger high, hoping it would bathe in more sunlight and charge her phone faster so that it could be turned on soon.

Lan Qiming opened a box of self-heating rice, which was already ready. As he ate, he walked over to her.

“We have limited resources at hand, so it’s best to plan it out.”

Jiang Miaomiao had a keen sense of smell like a dog and immediately detected what he was eating.

“I want beef.”

“… Go get it yourself.”

“I’m charging my phone; I can’t leave.”

“The solar charger doesn’t have legs. If you let go, it won’t run away.”

“Hey, we are comrades who have experienced life and death together. Can’t you spare me a piece of beef? Stingy.”

Jiang Miaomiao kept chattering, making Lan Qiming’s ears ache. He snatched the solar charger back and stuffed the self-heating rice into her hands.

“You eat, you eat. It’s all for you. Have your fill.”

She chuckled, “Thanks, you’re a good teammate.”

Lan Qiming was taken aback for a moment but immediately returned to the previous topic.

“We need to plan our supplies.”

“Plan what? If you eat half of what you eat every day, the things you save would be enough for me to live for another year.”

Jiang Miaomiao’s mouth was full of beef, and she could barely speak.

Lan Qiming resisted the urge to sew her mouth shut and patiently analyzed the situation.

“When we left the convenience store, I took a look inside, and there wasn’t much left. It’s not worth going back there again. The food in the basement will last us at most half a month, not enough to survive until the zombie tide arrives. So, in the meantime, we must gather more food. Also, relying on snacks to sustain ourselves every day might lead to malnutrition, which could weaken us when facing zombies. It would be best if we could find some nutritional supplements or healthier food. Do you know of any large supermarkets nearby?”

Jiang Miaomiao stopped and thought carefully, “There’s one, about seven or eight bus stops away.”

“In which direction?”

She felt a little lost, “Um… to the left?”

Lan Qiming sighed, “You don’t know the four cardinal directions?”

“I do! When I wake up in the morning and face the sun, the front is east, the back is west, the left is south, and the right is north. But it’s not morning now, and I’m afraid I’ll get it wrong. I’ll tell you tomorrow.”

Lan Qiming facepalmed, “Don’t you have navigation on your phone?”

“Yes.”

When she transmigrated into the novel, she didn’t know the way around either and relied on navigation for supplies.

“When your phone is fully charged, I’ll check the navigation.”

“Okay.”

Lan Qiming looked at her with a look of frustration, put down the solar charger, and shook his head as he went downstairs.

At six in the evening, the sun began to set.

Lan Qiming was cooking while wearing a greasy apron. He looked around but only found one apron to use as a replacement.

As we all know, oil splatters don’t reach one’s buttocks when frying food; aprons are only meant to protect the front.

So, as he waved the spatula, his sexy behind was exposed.

Jiang Miaomiao came downstairs, whistling when she saw him.

“It’s quite perky; it wasn’t in vain to carry water buckets.”

Lan Qiming sighed, “You little rascal, let’s eat.”

“I’ll eat later; I have something to do.”

Jiang Miaomiao sat on a chair, her expression like someone waiting for lottery results, holding her phone and pressing the power button.

Screen lit up, and the familiar startup sound rang out.
