SFTIAAB Chapter 9

Three minutes later, faint snoring sounded. Lu Qiming turned over, took all the quilt with him, and almost kicked Jiang Miaomiao off the bed.

Jiang Miaomiao: …Give it back to me!

She clutched the quilt with both hands and pulled with all her might, using up every bit of her strength, but she still couldn’t move him a bit.

After struggling for a long time, Jiang Miaomiao reluctantly managed to reclaim a corner of the quilt and curled up to sleep.

In the early morning, sunlight poured into the glass window. Lu Qiming opened his eyes and saw the soft and warm quilt on him. He couldn’t help but stretch lazily.

The person beside him had already gotten up, and there was the sound of water in the bathroom.

Lu Qiming got out of bed, neatly folded the quilt, and planned to go downstairs to make breakfast.

Suddenly, Jiang Miaomiao opened the door, her petite figure blocking his way.

He was grateful for her hospitality last night, so he took the initiative and said, “Good morning.”

Jiang Miaomiao had a sullen face, “Do I look good to you?”

Lu Qiming leaned over and carefully examined her. Indeed, she looked a bit listless, and he uncertainly asked, “Are you having your period again?”

“I caught a cold because of you.”

The floodgates opened, and she launched into a tirade against him.

“You are really impolite! You treated my bed as your own, rolled up all the quilt for yourself, leaving me with nothing to cover. I pulled, but couldn’t get it back. It was as heavy as a cow. I kicked, but couldn’t wake you up. Are you really not a pig in a past life?”

Lu Qiming was stunned by her scolding and hurriedly apologized during her pause for breath.

“I’m not usually like this. Maybe I was too tired yesterday. I promise I will never take your quilt again.”

Jiang Miaomiao snorted coldly.

“I don’t care what you do in the future. Anyway, don’t think about getting on my bed again. Figure out your own sleeping arrangements.”

She had slept poorly all night, with a low fever and a dizzy head. After speaking, she crawled back into the bed and continued sleeping.

Lu Qiming knew he was in the wrong and didn’t try to defend himself. He fiddled around in the kitchen for a while and brought a bowl of hot porridge upstairs.

But no matter how much he explained, she still refused to open her eyes and acknowledge him.

He could only put the porridge on the bedside table and went downstairs to do his own thing.

Jiang Miaomiao slept until two o’clock in the afternoon. When she woke up, her fever had subsided, and her stomach was growling with hunger.

She touched the porridge bowl, which was already cold. So she put on her shoes and went downstairs to find something to eat.

Jin Bantui had been howling all night, but now he seemed tired and stopped making noise, banging his head against the wall.

Outside the window, the little stars were wandering as usual, indifferent to the absence of their companion.

Jiang Miaomiao arrived in the living room and was about to go to the kitchen when she suddenly saw Lu Qiming squatting by the window, not knowing what he was doing.

Curious, she walked over and saw him pouring the dug-up soil into a large basin. The bean sprouts had also been moved into that basin and were grown quite nicely.

“You… have planted it?”

She asked in surprise.

Lu Qiming turned his head, his handsome face smeared with mud, but he seemed unaware of it.

“I saw that you weren’t feeling well and was worried that nobody would take care of it, so I took the liberty to move it over here.”

“Do you know how to grow it?”

“It’s a simple matter, anyone can do it.”

Afraid that she wouldn’t believe him, he specially turned the basin around to show her.

Jiang Miaomiao herself was not an expert either. After examining the bean sprouts for a while, she nodded and said, “Okay, you’ve worked hard.”

Lu Qiming asked, “Are you hungry? I left the porridge in the pot for you, and the fire has been on low heat all the time to keep it warm.”

She turned her head to look, and sure enough, there was a pot bubbling with white smoke on the stove.

Her feelings suddenly became complicated, but she quickly reminded herself not to fall for this man’s tricks.

Yesterday, it was because she was too softhearted that she let the wolf in and caught a cold.

Jiang Miaomiao walked over with a straight face and took a bowl to serve the porridge.

Lu Qiming shrugged, watered the bean sprouts, and placed them on the windowsill.

The golden sunlight shone on the lush green leaves, creating the most beautiful scene in this apocalyptic world.

After finishing the meal, Jiang Miaomiao took out half a bag of soybeans she had brought back from the convenience store and pondered how to grow bean sprouts.

In primary school, the teacher had taught them to soak the beans overnight, then put some clean sand on top of the swollen beans. Place the container in a warm but light-shielded place, and after a few days, the bean sprouts would sprout eagerly.

She had tried it before and succeeded, so she was full of confidence.

However, the problem was, where could she find sand?

After much thought, Jiang Miaomiao decided to use tissue paper instead.

There was plenty of stock, and it didn’t matter if some were wasted. If the beans didn’t sprout, she could stir-fry them.

She acted on her decision and used the bucket that had previously contained soil to pour half a bucket of warm water and pour all the beans into it.

The next morning, she poured the water out, placed several layers of wet tissues on top of the beans, and then hid the bucket in the small cabinet under the stove.

With the process now completed, she only had to wait for the beans to sprout.

Jiang Miaomiao went about her usual tasks, practicing calligraphy, drawing, and doing laundry. Every few minutes, she couldn’t help but take a look at the bean sprouts.

Seeing this, Lu Qiming couldn’t help but hold back a smile.

“Are you afraid it will run away? You have to keep watching it all the time.”

She pouted, “I’m afraid someone with a big appetite will steal it when I’m not paying attention.”

“I’m not that bored.”

Lu Qiming boiled some hot water for himself and carried a bucket, “I’m going to take a bath.”

Jiang Miaomiao looked at him with envy.

She also wanted to take a refreshing bath.

Since the water plant was destroyed, the city had been without water. The water heater couldn’t be used, and washing up could only be done with the pitifully small pot in the kitchen, at most half a pot at a time.

Lu Qiming was tough and could wash himself from head to toe with half a pot of hot water mixed with cold water.

But she couldn’t.

Washing her hair and body would require at least two buckets of water to be comfortable, but the small pot couldn’t supply that much.

So, in recent days, she hadn’t taken a proper bath and had been crouching in the bathroom, wiping herself off with a towel.

Jiang Miaomiao sighed softly, turned her head, and looked at the bean sprouts on the windowsill.

It had been two or three days since she planted them, but why were they still so lifeless? Could it be that the soil lacked nutrients?

Half an hour later, Lu Qiming emerged with wet hair, feeling refreshed. He saw Jiang Miaomiao beckoning to him.

“Come over.”

“What are you doing?”

She pointed at the bean sprouts, “Give them some fertilizer.”

Lu Qiming: “…What did you say?”

“You know what I mean, don’t play dumb.”

He frowned and refused, “No, it’s too disgusting.”

“When I said it was disgusting before, how did you respond?” Jiang Miaomiao used his own methods against him, “Anyway, it’s going to be washed away, so why not make use of it?”

“This is meant for eating.”

“Farmyard manure is used like this, others even use it to water the vegetables, and they still eat them happily. Don’t dawdle, do it quickly.”

She urged him as if she wanted to take off his pants herself.

Lu Qiming could only carry the bean sprouts to the bathroom, fertilize them, and then come out.

“Here.”

Jiang Miaomiao pinched her nose, “Put it there, what do you give it to me for? It’s so dirty.”

She wanted him to fertilize it, but then she complained about it being dirty. It was simply unreasonable.

Lu Qiming shook his head and placed the bean sprouts back on the windowsill.

Jiang Miaomiao hoped that from now on, they would grow vigorously, but the next day, she found that the leaves had turned yellow.

“Your urine is toxic!”

Puff—

The porridge in Lu Qiming’s mouth sprayed all over the table.

“You’re the one with the toxic urine.”

“If it’s not toxic, how could it become like this? It’s almost dead.”

“I said not to pee, but you insisted, and now it’s your fault it’s dying.”

Jiang Miaomiao refused to believe it and quickly watered it, hoping to dilute Lu Qiming’s toxic urine.

Unfortunately, in the afternoon, all the leaves of the bean sprouts fell off, and the stems curled up. They couldn’t survive until evening.

The bean sprouts she had placed high hopes on were gone like this. She could only pin her hopes on the bean sprouts she had left.

Fortunately, the latter didn’t let her down. After planting them for just two days, many little sprouts emerged.

She was very excited and moved the bean sprouts to her own room. She specifically warned Lu Qiming to keep his distance, especially his urine.

Lu Qiming couldn’t help but smile wryly, “I really don’t have that habit.”

Jiang Miaomiao focused on guarding this pot of treasure. On the fifth day, the bean sprouts had grown to a considerable height.

With an extremely sacred and excited mood, she plucked some and stir-fried them in the pan, using only oil and salt for seasoning. Two minutes later, they were ready and plated, releasing a fresh fragrance that filled the entire living room.

This was the only fresh vegetable in the villa for the past month.

Lu Qiming was originally working on something in the basement and came out smelling the aroma.

When he was still hesitating whether to go over or not, Jiang Miaomiao took the initiative to wave him over, handed him a bowl and chopsticks, and personally picked up a bite to put in his bowl.

He sat down and counted, feeling bitter.

“Only five bean sprouts, so generous.”

Jiang Miaomiao lifted her chin, “What’s wrong with five? Others might not even have any to eat. If I hadn’t been so clever that day and brought back the soybeans, we wouldn’t have any now.”

He nodded and ate the precious bean sprouts one by one. He looked at Jiang Miaomiao, who was engrossed in the delicious food, and said:

“Probably in another week, a large wave of zombies will be here. Our food is running out, we must go to the supermarket.”

After finishing her last bite, Jiang Miaomiao closed her eyes, savoring the aftertaste of the vegetables.

Lu Qiming reached out and pinched her cheek, “Stop secretly drooling and let’s talk business.”

She opened her eyes with disappointment, “Fine, you go. Before you leave, remember to take Golden Buttocks with you. I don’t want to get halfway through my suicide and be bitten by it.”

Lu Qiming frowned, “Are you really that unwilling to live?”

“I just know my abilities. I might not even be able to handle a wild cat, and now you want to fight against thousands of zombies? Are you kidding me?”

She stood up, “We’ve been living together for so long, it can be considered some kind of fate. If you want to go, go ahead, take whatever you need from the house. I only have one request, don’t bother me.”

She wiped her mouth, discarded the tissue, and prepared to go upstairs.

Lu Qiming looked at her back and said, “What if I’m 80% sure that we’ll come back safely from the supermarket?”

Jiang Miaomiao stopped in her tracks and turned around, “Tell me about it.”

He stood up and walked to the door of the utility room while unlocking it. He explained, “Zombies mainly rely on their sense of smell to determine if someone is human. We just need to disguise ourselves from this aspect to avoid attracting their attention.”

The door opened, and Golden Buttocks, which had been lying quietly on the ground, immediately struggled.

Lu Qiming raised an eyebrow at Jiang Miaomiao, as if asking – do you want to try?

She hesitated, “Are you sure it will work?”

“How else do you think I safely made it to this house?”

Jiang Miaomiao remembered his blood-stained appearance that day and suddenly understood.

But she was still timid and couldn’t believe it without seeing it with her own eyes.

“If you’re so confident, try it first and let me see.”

Lu Qiming had no problem with that. He took out a knife from somewhere and slashed Golden Buttocks’ fat ankle.

Sticky black blood slowly flowed out, and he smeared it all over his body, not missing any inch of skin.

Jiang Miaomiao felt nauseous and stepped back to the door.

A few minutes later, Lu Qiming’s body was covered in zombie blood, and he covered his nose and mouth with a towel. He asked Jiang Miaomiao to come in and see, while he took the knife and cut a hole in Golden Buttocks’ bedsheet.

The massive nostrils twitched, and Golden Buttocks clearly heard the sound but couldn’t smell any signs of a living person. It searched around and lunged at Jiang Miaomiao near the door, opening its bloodthirsty mouth.

Lu Qiming casually wiped the blood off the knife.

“Now, do you believe me?”
