The modified vehicle was approximately three to four meters high, and Xiao Yang lowered the stairs for Bai Qing Qing to climb up. Bai Qing Qing no longer intentionally played coy or acted mischievous. Her exquisite appearance captivated everyone’s attention, making her slightly clumsy climb up the stairs look adorable in the eyes of the two men.
When she reached the last step, she looked up eagerly at Fu Chen, not far away, and extended her hand, saying, “Brother, I can’t make it up. Can you give me a hand?”
It was indeed a bit challenging for a girl to climb up, especially since she had no training experience. Fu Chen walked over and reached out his hand. Bai Qing Qing placed her hand in his, and her soft, fair little hand felt delicate.
Fu Chen effortlessly pulled her up. She stumbled and fell into his embrace for less than a second before quickly regaining her footing. She smiled sweetly and softly said, “Thank you, Brother.”
Fu Chen’s gaze darkened slightly, and he raised an eyebrow as he asked, “How should you thank me?”
Bai Qing Qing was momentarily stunned, her voice sweet and gentle as she replied, “Brother, how would you like me to thank you?”
“I haven’t decided yet. Just remember it for now,” he responded.
The three of them stood on the roof of the modified vehicle, bathed in the cool silver moonlight, creating a harmonious scene. The night breeze was chilly, and Bai Qing Qing hugged herself, rubbing her arms to warm them. Bathed in the moonlight, she gazed at the desolate fields. In this silent night, any rustle or movement would alert their senses.
Bai Qing Qing took out a pack of spicy sticks from her pocket and turned to Xiao Yang, asking, “Do you want to eat some?”
No one in this world could resist the allure of spicy sticks. She handed one to him, and without thinking too much, Xiao Yang bit into it, complimenting, “The flavor is really good. Did you find these at the supermarket this afternoon?”
Bai Qing Qing nodded and said, “I bought all the spicy sticks at the supermarket.”
Fu Chen, who had been ignored on the side, suddenly felt a bit displeased. Did she set her sights on the easily deceived Xiao Yang? How could she flirt with other men in front of him, her brother?
Bai Qing Qing noticed that Fu Chen’s expression slightly darkened, his eyelashes lowered, and a faint hint of a smile flashed in his eyes. He raised his gaze again, looking at him with pure and clear eyes. “Brother, are you hungry?”
Fu Chen snorted coldly, and Bai Qing Qing smiled pleasingly, leaning closer to feed him.
In fact, this group of people were not very old. Fu Chen was only twenty-three years old. The post-apocalyptic world had quickly forced them to mature.
After finishing eating, they looked at the starry wasteland for a while. Bai Qing Qing felt a bit drowsy and kept yawning, looking adorably like a sleepy kitten, nodding off bit by bit.
Xiao Yang spoke up, saying, “Qing Qing, why don’t you go back to the sleeping compartment and rest? The third room is the girls’ bedroom.” The sleeping compartments were limited, and the second floor was divided into three spaces. Fu Chen and Xiao Yang shared one, while Bai Qing Qing and her sister used to sleep together.
Bai Qing Qing immediately woke up from her drowsiness. Shen Mingxuan and Cheng Rui, the two big threats, were resting on the second floor. She didn’t dare to go up easily. After receiving her memories, the despair and pain of being thrown into the zombie circle by Cheng Rui and Shen Mingxuan were deeply engraved in her mind.
She grabbed Fu Chen’s arm and leaned against him, her voice soft. “Brother, I don’t want to go to sleep. I want to stay up with you.”
Fu Chen, besides his electrical abilities, also had psychic abilities. Sensing her uneasiness and fear, he couldn’t help but think of how she had been threatened by Shen Mingxuan, so he didn’t push her away. After all, he played the role of an older brother.
Earlier, Bai Qing Qing had gathered some items from the supermarket and stored them in her space. She took out a blanket and wrapped herself in it, yawning. “Brother, can I sleep here?”
The weather in May and June wasn’t too cold, just a bit cool. As long as she kept warm, she wouldn’t catch a cold.
The two men sat on the roof of the vehicle while Bai Qing Qing, like a little cat, curled up with the blanket and fell asleep.
Xiao Yang couldn’t help but look at the sleeping woman. He didn’t expect Bai Qing Qing, after losing her memories, to be so cute. He truly hoped that she would never recover her memories and turn into a scheming woman.
A gust of wind blew in from the north, and Fu Chen subtly moved his body to block the chill for the woman beside him.
When Shen Mingxuan and Cheng Rui came to take over their shift, they saw Fu Chen and Xiao Yang sitting on the ground, with Bai Qing Qing sleeping peacefully beside them. Their faces immediately turned dark.
That annoying and scheming Bai Qing Qing was always trying to seduce men.
…
Bai Qing Qing didn’t know when she returned to her room. The next day, when she woke up, the sun was already high in the sky. As she went downstairs to wash up, she saw Bai Tian Tian cooking porridge.
In these past few days, Bai Tian Tian’s attitude toward her had clearly changed. In short, it wasn’t as good as before.
After finishing her morning routine, Bai Qing Qing pulled open the curtains between the living room and the driver’s seat, looking through the windshield at the city that stood tall in the distance.
They were just a dozen kilometers away from entering the city. The modified vehicle came to a stop, and everyone gathered in the living room to have breakfast. After eating, they discussed their next steps.
Liang Zhiyu, displaying his strategist side, took out a hand-drawn sketch he had made, marking the locations where they would gather supplies. If the situation allowed, they could rest in the city for a few days before continuing their journey.
Jiangcheng was divided into two districts by a long river, with a bridge spanning hundreds of kilometers. The entrance to the city was in the southern district. After the outbreak, the checkpoints and roads for entering the city had been destroyed, and there were many obstacles on the road that no one had cleared.
Even before reaching the city, they saw zombies leisurely roaming the road, attracted by the sound of the modified vehicle.
During the daytime with the sun shining, the behavior of the zombies was slightly slower. These low-level zombies emitted low growls, and their rotten and ferocious faces made people feel nauseous.
The modified vehicle simply ran over them and entered Jiangcheng.
Jiangcheng was not too far from Haicheng, where the virus outbreak had occurred. In the past few months, the city had already become a zombie-infested area, and the surviving humans had mostly gathered in the established base seeking shelter.
Therefore, it was mostly survivor teams passing through Jiangcheng to search for supplies.
The lively streets and cities of the pre-apocalyptic era were now empty, devoid of human figures. Occasionally, a few zombies staggered by, and the wind blew shopping bags into the sky.
The modified vehicle stopped outside a supermall according to the operational plan. The seven members of the Thunder Squad entered the large supermarket together to search for supplies, each with a clear division of labor and the goal of finishing the task quickly, as no one knew how many zombies were inside the mall.
Shen Mingxuan and Liang Zhiyu guarded the vehicle outside, while everyone else split up to find the items they needed. Bai Tian Tian had no combat capabilities, so Cheng Rui and Xiao Yang accompanied her to protect her.
Bai Qing Qing and Fu Chen entered the supermarket together, their eyes dazzled by the variety of products. They considered which items to put into their space, as Bai Qing Qing’s space was currently small in size.
“Brother, let’s go to the food section first.” “Sure,” Fu Chen replied. As long as they were still human, they needed to eat. Grains, oils, rice, noodles, vegetables, fruits, and egg products were the most important items.
Bai Qing Qing strolled through the grains and oils section, piling up usable rice, flour, oil, and seasonings in her space. Unfortunately, the vegetables and fruits had already expired and were no longer edible due to the supermarket being deserted for too long.
It was Bai Qing Qing’s first time experiencing the exhilaration of shopping without anyone else around. After going through the grains and oils section, she headed towards the daily necessities and department store area.
She swept the shelves clean of towels, clothing, shoes, and tissues. Fu Chen leisurely followed behind her, watching her joyfully stock up on supplies, his eyes slightly moved.
After clearing out the personal hygiene product area, Bai Qing Qing finally felt a sense of security. It was difficult to get by without sanitary pads during normal days, let alone during the apocalypse.
Having finished with the goods section, she pulled Fu Chen towards the dry food section, wanting to stock up on some snacks and beverages.
Just as Bai Qing Qing arrived at the snacks section, she heard a series of hurried footsteps. Several tall men armed with guns barged into the supermarket. When they saw Bai Qing Qing, a hint of astonishment flickered in their eyes.
The leader was a tall bald man, standing over 1.9 meters tall with well-built muscles, giving off an intimidating presence.
“Are you here to collect supplies too?” he asked.
Fu Chen glanced at him and coldly replied, “We’re done searching and were about to leave.”
The bald man looked at them warily, glancing at them several times before signaling his men to search for supplies.
Given that there were not many survivors in the post-apocalyptic world, some people formed teams to ensure their safety and journeyed together to the secure base. The bald man, for some reason, intercepted them.
“Brother, hold on for a moment. I’m Zhang Qiang. Where are you headed? We can form a team,” he offered.
“No need, it’s not on our way,” Fu Chen directly refused.
Zhang Qiang’s face turned slightly ugly. As the leader of a group of survivors, he had never been rejected so bluntly before.
His gaze couldn’t help but shift towards Bai Qing Qing, and he tried to persuade them with a seemingly friendly tone, “Young man, don’t be nervous. We’re not bad people. Are you heading to the Yaoyang Base?”
Given that almost everyone passing through Jiangcheng was heading towards the Yaoyang Base, Zhang Qiang easily guessed their route.
Zhang Qiang’s men were nearby, all armed with guns. Engaging in a firefight would attract zombies, so despite the tense atmosphere, neither side was eager to start a fight.
Fu Chen’s handsome face turned cold, his ink-black eyes icy as he glanced at the man. “No comment.”
He pulled Bai Qing Qing to leave, but the bald man blocked their way with his gun and angrily said, “Are you crazy, kid? I tried to help you kindly, and you don’t appreciate it.”
Zhang Qiang’s men, with fierce expressions, gathered around with their guns, clearly intending to overwhelm them with their numbers. Just then, a loud gunshot echoed from a corner of the supermarket, creating a commotion that instantly alerted the zombies throughout the shopping center.
The zombies hidden within the supermarket heard the noise and sensed the scent of humans, roaring and baring their menacing teeth as they attacked. The atmosphere became tense in an instant.
“Damn it! Who did that?” Zhang Qiang’s face turned pale. Leading his men, he started shooting indiscriminately. “Retreat!”
Before they could collect any supplies, they were surrounded by zombies, incredibly unlucky.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Fu Chen pulled Bai Qing Qing past several shelving units and rushed towards the exit. The place was filled with howling zombies, a horrifying sight.
Bai Qing Qing faced a crisis for the first time, feeling her nerves tighten, even slowing down her breathing.
“Team Leader!” Three people rushed towards them—it was Xiao Yang and Cheng Rui, dragging Bai Tian Tian along while attacking the zombies to protect her.
The zombies in the shopping center all converged towards the supermarket, continuously charging and biting, making it difficult to use any abilities in the crowded area. They could only make their way towards the underground parking lot through the emergency exit.
Bai Tian Tian stumbled and cried with tears streaming down her face, saying, “I’m sorry, it’s all my fault…”
