Extra 2 — Dou Yiqing × Qin Yun
Without Qin Yun in her life, Dou Yiqing did not feel particularly uncomfortable.
When she thought about it, Qin Yun had not actually been part of her life for very long. They had been unable to avoid each other during their three years of high school, and the past few months had been nothing more than an accident.
Without him around, perhaps the nodules in her breasts would even develop more slowly. After all, Qin Yun was just as infuriating as those bastard boys in her class.
At least, that was what Dou Yiqing told herself.
So on Thursday morning, while they were walking to school, Wen Ci asked what had happened, and Dou Yiqing froze.
“Nothing happened. Why are you suddenly asking?”
“You haven’t seemed very happy lately,” Wen Ci stated.
“I’m fine.”
“You’ve been staring into space for a long time. You’ve barely spoken since we left home, and your dark circles are very obvious.”
Wen Ci paused.
“Qin Yun hasn’t been coming over lately, has he?”
“I was thinking about the new seating plan for my class.”
Dou Yiqing looked perfectly relaxed.
“Qin Yun won’t be coming over again. We aren’t sleeping together anymore. His technique is terrible, and he talks too much.”
Wen Ci frowned and looked at her worriedly.
She was about to say something when Dou Yiqing exclaimed,
“Oh, come on.”
She pushed Wen Ci towards the primary-school entrance.
“You’re here. Hurry inside. Bye, baby.”
That afternoon, after self-study ended, Dou Yiqing heard the same question again.
It came from several irritating boys in her class, who crowded noisily around the lectern.
“Teacher Dou, who upset you recently? Why are you in such a bad mood?”
Who was in a bad mood?
Dou Yiqing looked confused.
“I haven’t scolded any of you these past few days, have I?”
“That’s exactly why it’s strange!”
The boys burst out laughing and made an exorcising gesture towards her.
“Whoever you are, get out of Teacher Dou’s body immediately!”
Dou Yiqing picked up her ruler.
The boys instantly fled to the other side of the room.
That evening, by the time she returned home, showered and lay down in bed, she was utterly exhausted.
She closed her eyes and rested for a while before instinctively saying,
“Qin Yun, bring me some alcohol…”
Her voice stopped abruptly.
Half a minute later, Dou Yiqing climbed out of bed herself, took a bottle of cold beer from the fridge and snapped it open with one hand.
She moved to the balcony, lay down and drank slowly.
She had always drunk alone before.
There was no difference.
In fact, it was quieter.
No one would suddenly demand kisses halfway through her drink.
Afterwards, no one would force her to sit beside him and watch him play those stupid single-player games until she fell asleep amid the noisy background sounds.
Without Qin Yun, she had finally reclaimed her peaceful evenings.
Excellent.
This was the third consecutive night Dou Yiqing remained awake until late.
…
When Wen Ci called, Dou Yiqing had just secretly topped up the meal card of an impoverished student in her class.
She stepped out of the canteen and answered.
“What is it, baby?”
“Yiqing, did you know Lost Night is performing in Jiangcheng tomorrow?”
Wen Ci asked, “Shall we go together?”
Lost Night was Dou Yiqing’s favourite rock band.
She had once travelled overnight by boat to Bincheng purely to see them perform. Although she had arrived in time, she had only heard the second half of the show.
“Really? Why haven’t I seen any announcements? Which venue?”
“It’s at…”
Wen Ci paused.
“Blue Note.”
“…”
“Qin Yun invited them. He reserved seats for us downstairs.”
“He said he’ll remain upstairs that night, so you probably won’t run into him.”
Wen Ci asked, “Do you want to go?”
Qin Yun’s exact words had actually been:
*Tell me if you bring Dou Yiqing. I won’t go downstairs. I don’t want to see her f*cking face right now.*
“Of course.”
Dou Yiqing’s voice sounded completely indifferent.
“It would be a waste not to go.”
On the evening of the performance, Dou Yiqing genuinely appeared unaffected.
Blue Note’s sound equipment was far better than that of the previous bar.
The atmosphere was explosive that night.
Dou Yiqing stood in the dance floor beneath the stage, one arm around Wen Ci’s shoulders as they waved wildly and jumped along with the band.
When one song ended, Wen Ci was dizzy from jumping and returned to the booth to drink water and rest.
Zhou Wu reached out and massaged her ears.
“Are you uncomfortable?”
Wen Ci shook her head.
She had genuinely found it difficult to adjust at first, but after a while, it became strangely addictive.
“Aren’t you going to keep Qin Yun company?”
Zhou Wu raised an eyebrow as though she had told a joke.
“I have a girlfriend. Why would I abandon her to keep him company?”
“Wen Ci.”
At some point, Dou Yiqing had also emerged from the dance floor.
She interrupted them, bent towards Wen Ci’s ear and shouted,
“I’m going to the bathroom.”
“All right. I’ll come with you.”
Wen Ci was about to stand when Dou Yiqing pressed her back down.
“No need. I’ll go alone.”
“You should rest. We still have more jumping to do later.”
Standing before the bathroom mirror, Dou Yiqing called herself an idiot.
She had not even needed the bathroom.
Why had she left?
Just so she could glance towards the second floor while passing?
She had not even seen anything.
The railing upstairs was empty.
No one stood there.
That only made her look more foolish.
She half-heartedly splashed water on her face.
When Dou Yiqing stepped out of the bathroom, a familiar opening riff came from inside the bar.
It was her favourite song.
Several people blocked the corridor.
From the sound of it, some small argument had broken out.
That was common in bars. Drunk people easily started fights.
Dou Yiqing quickened her steps and tried to move around them so she could make it back for the chorus—
“F*ck your grandfather! You… you bumped into me just now, didn’t you?”
“You walked into the wall yourself. Who are you trying to extort? Get out of the way.”
A familiar voice.
“Huh? F*cking hell, you! Don’t walk away. Come here. Explain yourself.”
“Why are you pulling me, you f*cking waiter? He bumped into me! Pull him instead!”
A relatively short waiter had been the first to notice the problem.
The drunk man was accompanied by several equally intoxicated friends.
The waiter could only do his best to shield his employer while using his radio to summon security.
“Sir, this is our owner. He genuinely didn’t bump into you.”
“What?”
The drunk man widened his eyes.
“So the owner can bully people? You’re calling more people over too?”
“Brothers, beat the f*ck out of him!”
Qin Yun had drunk quite a lot that evening.
His vision glittered, and everyone appeared doubled.
Seeing the group before him, he understood that a fight was unavoidable.
Someone caught his collar.
Qin Yun clicked his tongue and was about to kick the man away when—
Smack.
A pink handbag struck the drunk man directly in the face.
That bag is so ugly.
And strangely familiar.
Qin Yun had only just finished judging it when someone pulled him closer and held him.
The person was shorter and thinner than him.
Qin Yun was nearly twice her size, but she did not care.
One arm supported him tightly while she stuck her head out from beneath his arm and began arguing with the drunk men.
Qin Yun bent down and buried his face against her narrow shoulder, breathing in the familiar scent of her perfume.
He suddenly remembered two nights earlier.
Someone had been unable to tolerate watching him drink himself miserable and had advised him that Dou Yiqing was nothing special.
She was reasonably attractive, but compared with the women they knew, she ranked nowhere near the top.
She was tall and slender but not particularly voluptuous.
She was not worth drinking over every day.
Qin Yun had nodded and agreed.
“You’re right.”
Several glasses later, he shook his head.
“You don’t understand a f*cking thing.”
Dou Yiqing was the most annoying and the most righteous woman he had ever met.
Whenever a classmate was bullied in high school, she was always the first person to stand up.
She did not care whether the victim was male or female.
She simply rose and fought.
Yu Binhong had appointed her discipline monitor for all three years because she was the only person bold enough to fear no trouble and record anyone’s name.
Qin Yun’s name had been written down every day.
He had always found her extremely irritating.
Until one day during their final year.
He happened to pass the teachers’ office and overheard two teachers discussing him.
They said his grades were poor, he skipped lessons and bullied classmates.
A rich second-generation heir like him would surely become a menace to society.
Qin Yun did not care.
Words like that meant nothing to him.
But Dou Yiqing, who had been helping a teacher organise assignments inside the office, suddenly raised her head and corrected them coldly.
“Teachers, Qin Yun has never bullied his classmates.”
After that day, Qin Yun strangely began enjoying her scolding.
If she went one day without insulting him, he felt uncomfortable.
He wondered whether he had developed some kind of mental illness.
Otherwise, why would he feel differently towards Dou Yiqing and constantly want to speak to her?
Fortunately, they graduated soon afterwards.
When he saw Dou Yiqing again during the school anniversary, Qin Yun felt relieved.
She had become so ugly and unfashionable, like a middle-aged auntie.
There was no possibility he would still feel anything for her.
And yet he had somehow fallen to this point.
The argument continued around him.
The drunk man froze.
“You bitch! Did you hit me?”
Hearing this, Dou Yiqing raised her bag and struck him several more times, fairly distributing blows among every drunk man present.
“Get lost! Stay away, or I’m calling the police!”
“Who the hell should be calling the police—”
The drunk men finally reacted and were about to retaliate when several tall, muscular security guards arrived.
Without hesitation, they grabbed the men and dragged them away.
The entire incident had been brief and was resolved quickly.
The manager skilfully dispersed the onlookers and hurried over to support Qin Yun.
Dou Yiqing was about to hand him over when Qin Yun tightened his arms around her and clung firmly to her body.
The manager knew Dou Yiqing and looked at her awkwardly.
“This…”
“I’ll take him upstairs,” Dou Yiqing said.
“Please bring him some honey water. Thank you.”
By the time they reached the second floor, Dou Yiqing’s favourite song had already ended.
She struggled to lower Qin Yun onto the sofa.
The moment she tried to stand, Qin Yun wrapped his arms around her waist again.
Sitting on the sofa, he buried his face in Dou Yiqing’s clothes and asked drunkenly,
“Dou Yiqing, did you get back together with your ex?”
“What does that have to do with you?”
Dou Yiqing caught his hands and tried to move them away.
Then she suddenly stopped.
She had removed her down jacket after arriving at Blue Note.
Now she wore only a thin, coarse-strapped camisole.
The fabric gradually became damp.
Through it, she felt a patch of warmth.
“Dou Yiqing, you’re such a scumbag,” Qin Yun said muffledly.
Dou Yiqing lowered her eyes.
“Right back at you.”
“Who’s the same as you?”
“I never flirt with my exes. I ended both relationships cleanly.”
Qin Yun held her more tightly as though clutching a lifeline.
“Did you get back together with him or not…”
Her phone ringing interrupted him.
Dou Yiqing answered.
“Hello? …I’m fine, baby. I’ll be back soon.”
The arms around her waist loosened.
Qin Yun turned away and stopped asking.
After she ended the call, he said coldly,
“Hurry and get lost, Dou Yiqing.”
One song had just ended, and the lights inside Blue Note brightened.
They had been holding each other for too long.
The loose hair over Qin Yun’s forehead now stuck upwards, exposing his face clearly before Dou Yiqing.
His upturned eyes were red from tears.
The tip of his nose was red too.
He looked like an abandoned puppy.
Dou Yiqing did not understand.
If he had already found someone new, why was he crying this badly?
She picked up the honey water the waiter had just delivered and intended to make him drink.
Someone came upstairs.
Dou Yiqing turned and first noticed the rare-leather handbag in the woman’s hand.
“Oh?”
The woman froze slightly when she saw only the two of them.
“I’m not interrupting, am I?”
“No.”
Dou Yiqing withdrew her hand.
“You feed him.”
“Me?”
The woman froze.
“Why? Aren’t you his girlfriend? You should feed him.”
“I only came upstairs to say I received the thank-you gift.”
The woman shook the bag in her hand.
After speaking towards Qin Yun, who had turned his face away on the sofa, she looked at Dou Yiqing.
“So, little sister? Are you satisfied?”
Dou Yiqing held the honey water.
“…With what?”
“Tonight’s performance.”
The woman sighed.
“Your taste is certainly unusual.”
“This band is unpopular and arrogant. They were harder to arrange than several first-rate singers. It took me a huge amount of effort to contact them.”
…
After watching her go downstairs, Dou Yiqing turned around with the honey water and sat beside Qin Yun.
The alcohol was fully affecting him now.
Blue Note was also noisy, so he had no idea someone had just visited.
His head rested lazily against the sofa.
Sensing Dou Yiqing’s gaze, he silently turned his face in the opposite direction.
Dou Yiqing reached out and turned his head back.
Qin Yun looked away again.
She moved him back.
After several repetitions, Qin Yun opened his eyes.
“Dou Yiqing, are you finished?”
The cup was pressed against his lips.
“Open your mouth. Drink.”
“I’m not drinking. Go back to your baby—”
Before Qin Yun finished, the cup was already pushed into his mouth.
After several mouthfuls of honey water, his stomach finally felt slightly better.
Dou Yiqing put down the cup and leaned sideways against the sofa.
“The last time you heard this band, didn’t you say they sounded terrible?”
“Mm. Absolutely terrible.”
Qin Yun showed no mercy.
“Their fans also have poor manners. Those people downstairs had poor manners.”
“Dou Yiqing, you have poor manners too.”
“Then why did you invite them to perform?”
“Because I’m pathetic. Is that acceptable?”
“Because of me?”
“I already said, because I’m pathetic—”
Before he finished, the scent of perfume approached, and Dou Yiqing kissed him.
“…”
Qin Yun froze.
He had been drinking and crying, so his entire face was slightly red.
He stared blankly at her for a long time before cursing,
“Dou Yiqing, you got back together with your ex and you’re still kissing me?”
“What the f*ck do you think I am?”
Dou Yiqing rested one elbow on the sofa and supported her head.
She did not answer.
Instead, she lowered her head and kissed him again.
Qin Yun’s mind roared.
He did not understand.
But he also did not want to push her away.
Although every sentence he had spoken was harsher than the last, his kisses became increasingly forceful.
Eventually, Dou Yiqing turned and straddled him.
Inside his mind, Qin Yun cursed her as a scumbag three thousand times.
His arms had already instinctively wrapped around her waist, holding her against him.
Through the thin fabric, they exchanged heartbeats and saliva.
Dou Yiqing’s lips were slightly full and very soft.
Kissing her felt exceptionally good.
They kissed for half a song.
Only when the phone rang again did Dou Yiqing sit upright and answer.
“Baby, I—”
The phone suddenly vanished from her hand.
Qin Yun had snatched it.
He shouted through gritted teeth,
“Dou Yiqing isn’t coming back. She’s f*cking kissing me right now!”
“We’re going to have s*x later too, so go wherever it’s cool and get as far away as—”
Dou Yiqing lightly slapped his mouth.
Qin Yun froze.
His reddened eyes widened as he looked at her in disbelief.
“…Dou Yiqing, did you hit me for your ex?”
“If I don’t hit you, who should I hit?”
“Qin Yun, are you insane? That’s Wen Ci.”
Dou Yiqing pressed the phone against his ear and ordered,
“Apologise.”
“…”
Qin Yun said, “Sorry.”
Wen Ci replied, “…It’s all right.”
Dou Yiqing took back the phone, spoke to Wen Ci for another moment, then ended the call and tossed it aside.
She was about to kiss him again.
This time, Qin Yun firmly covered his own mouth.
“Dou Yiqing, I’m not such a casual man.”
“I don’t kiss women who have boyfriends.”
His voice was muffled.
“Go and break up with him, then come back and kiss me.”
“I don’t have a boyfriend.”
Qin Yun fell silent before frowning.
“Did your ex reject you?”
“Is that possible?”
“I didn’t get back together with him, and I didn’t have dinner with him on New Year’s Day.”
“Then you—”
“I lied to you,” Dou Yiqing said.
“That day, I thought you gave the bag to a woman because you were pursuing her.”
“…”
Qin Yun did not understand why her tone sounded so self-righteous.
But he still felt a f*cking enormous sense of relief.
After a moment, Qin Yun noticed something else was wrong.
“Then why did you change the locks before?”
“Because I was planning to end things with you.”
“…”
He understood.
She did not want her ex, but she had not intended to choose him either.
Without noticing, tears fell from Qin Yun’s eyes.
He gritted his teeth.
“Dou Yiqing, is playing with me entertaining?”
Initially, she had not found it entertaining.
But why was Qin Yun so capable of crying?
Dou Yiqing answered honestly,
“A little.”
Fine.
Excellent.
Qin Yun nodded.
“Then let’s end it.”
“Why are you still sitting on my lap? Get off.”
“I’m regretting it slightly,” Dou Yiqing said.
“?”
Qin Yun thought he had laughed from anger.
In reality, he had cried from anger.
“Am I some pathetic person you can take whenever you want and discard whenever you don’t?”
“I’m telling you, Dou Yiqing, I’m never becoming your friend with benefits again.”
The moment he finished, Qin Yun regretted it.
Dou Yiqing was already an idiot.
Why did he insist on arguing so seriously with her?
What if they genuinely ended things?
No.
He needed to offer her a way out first.
“Unless you—”
“All right,” Dou Yiqing said.
“F*ck!”
Qin Yun anxiously interrupted her.
“No, I hadn’t finished speaking—”
“Would being my boyfriend be acceptable?” Dou Yiqing asked.
“…”
Qin Yun raised his eyes and stared blankly at her.
His cheeks shone wetly with tears.
Looking at him made Dou Yiqing want to kiss him again.
She was about to move closer when Qin Yun picked up his phone.
“Say it again.”
“?”
“I’m recording it.”
“Otherwise, you’ll deny that you were the one who pursued me.”
“Qin Yun, you’re genuinely insane.”
Dou Yiqing lowered her head and kissed him.
…
Dou Yiqing had never imagined that one day she would abandon a Lost Night live performance to get a hotel room with Qin Yun.
But after recovering from the lingering pleasure and seeing Qin Yun’s still-reddened eyes, she thought it was not too bad.
“Qin Yun, can you cry whenever we have s*x in future?” Dou Yiqing could not resist asking.
“Don’t ask to be insulted, Dou Yiqing.”
Qin Yun said, “I wasn’t crying. I simply look like that when I’m drunk.”
“How were you able to get hard if you were drunk?”
“Natural talent.”
“All right.”
Dou Yiqing changed her approach.
“Then can you always be drunk when we have s*x?”
Qin Yun finally lost patience.
He turned her over and continued from behind so she could no longer look at him.
…
By the time they finished, Blue Note downstairs had become silent.
Qin Yun bent over her, buried his face against her back and said in a muffled voice,
“Dou Yiqing, you like me.”
Dou Yiqing had originally intended to cut her losses.
She and Qin Yun were not the same kind of people.
Their personalities clashed, their values differed and their family backgrounds were worlds apart.
No matter how she considered it, they did not seem to have a future.
Besides, Qin Yun made her feel differently from her previous boyfriends.
If they genuinely separated in future, she probably would not be able to detach herself as decisively as before.
After thinking about it repeatedly, Dou Yiqing still believed it would be best not to begin.
But when she opened her mouth, the only answer she could produce was,
“Mm.”
Qin Yun held her more tightly.
“…Me too.”
“Mm.”
“I like you so much, Dou Yiqing.”
“Mm.”
“Let’s get married, Dou Yiqing.”
“Stop pretending to be insane because you’re drunk.”
“All right.”
Qin Yun said, “I love you.”
“Mm.”
Feeling moisture against her back, Dou Yiqing turned her head in delight.
“Are you crying again?”
Qin Yun covered her eyes.
“No.”
“Can I sit on top of you and do it once?”
F*ck.
Dou Yiqing only wanted to watch him cry.
“No,” Qin Yun said.
“Stingy man.”
“Provoking me won’t work.”
“Return the key to my home tomorrow.”
“No. Unless you let me sit on top once.”
“…”
“You have to cry while we do it.”
“Dou Yiqing, you’re genuinely sick. You’re a pervert.”
“Forget it. I don’t want the key anymore.”
“I’ll climb in through the window from now on!”
