TVFCATEOD Chapter 73

Bai Qingqing saw Shen Mingxuan suddenly collapse on the ground and immediately ran over.

She and Shen Mingxuan had always been at odds with each other. This man was arrogant and either coldly sarcastic or mocking towards her.

In fact, she had considered seducing Shen Mingxuan and then ruthlessly dumping him, letting him experience what it felt like to be looked down upon. But she didn’t expect that he would get infected with the zombie virus because he saved her.

Her rationality told her to stay away from Shen Mingxuan, who could mutate at any moment. She had to give up on him for the sake of her own survival.

With mixed emotions, Bai Qingqing squatted down to observe the man. His face had a strange reddish hue, indicating that he was not well. It wouldn’t be long before he mutated.

The female zombie had carried her for more than ten minutes, far away from their initial stronghold. The surroundings were shrouded in dense white fog, making it impossible to see where they were. Occasionally, eerie zombie roars could be heard.

Bai Qingqing took out tools from her space and struggled to lift Shen Mingxuan, securing him on top of the cart with a rope. She then dragged the cart along.

The vast fog resembled a steel forest covered in veils. The girl dragging the cart on the street appeared so small, while the silent post-apocalyptic world was desolate and terrifying.

Bai Qingqing gritted her teeth as she dragged the cart and complained. Shen Mingxuan was so heavy; it felt like she was moving a mountain. It took all her strength to drag him along.

It wasn’t night yet, but she didn’t know when zombies would come running. She had to find a safe area as soon as possible.

“Roar!” Suddenly, a zombie lunged at her, but the purple vines swiftly extended from her space and pierced through its head, violently tearing it apart.

Bai Qingqing showed a disgusted expression and quickly changed her path.

After an unknown amount of time, she finally saw a gate through the white fog. It was an abandoned factory, which was better than having nowhere to go. She dragged the cart inside.

Bai Qingqing released the little purple grass and commanded, “Go and check the surroundings. Eliminate any zombies if there are any.”

Although she didn’t think there would be zombies in this wasteland, it was better to be safe and check.

Abandoned factories often had places to live. She stopped downstairs and looked at the man lying on the cart. His androgynous and handsome face was furrowed with a hint of immense pain.

Bai Qingqing had never experienced infection, but she had seen the expression of someone who had been bitten by a zombie. The process of mutation was horrifying, and the person undergoing it would undoubtedly endure tremendous pain.

She sighed, looked up at the several floors above, and murmured, “I owe you one.”

He had saved her life, and whether it was for repaying the debt or for the mission, she couldn’t abandon him.

Bai Qingqing crouched down, grasped the man’s arms, and lifted him onto her back. She laboriously climbed the stairs until she reached the third floor and sat on the ground, gasping for breath.

Shen Mingxuan rolled off her back, his dishevelled hair covering his brows and eyes, giving him a lifeless appearance.

Bai Qingqing opened the door to an office, dragged him inside, and locked the door. She lay down on the brown leather sofa to rest.

She looked down with lowered brows, observing Shen Mingxuan’s uncertain fate. After contemplating for a moment, she tied him up and threw him into a pantry to assess the situation.

………

Shen Mingxuan groggily opened his eyes, feeling like there were insects tearing and biting inside his bloodstream. The pain was unbearable, and his head felt like it was being stirred with blades, making his consciousness hazy.

He realized that he was tied up and locked in a room, and in his dazed state, he saw someone entering through the door.

“Awake?” a surprised voice sounded.

Shen Mingxuan’s throat felt blocked, and he couldn’t speak. His bloodshot eyes stared at the girl, emitting a vague growl.

How could it be her? His rationality was clouded, and he thought he was seeing an illusion. She clearly despised him, and he was about to turn into a zombie. Didn’t she understand? Just leave.

When rationality completely vanished, his mind flashed with various fragments. If he… it would be so much better.

Bai Qingqing was startled by the man’s roar. She noticed his bloodshot eyes and the veins on his forehead, as if he was enduring excruciating pain, unable to utter a word.

She took a step back, feeling heavy-hearted. She had been relieved that he wouldn’t turn into a zombie, but she didn’t expect him to ultimately be unable to escape the fate of becoming a monster.

Bai Qingqing saw the man hanging his head, seemingly completely unconscious, so she left the room and locked the door.

She sat on the sofa, furrowing her brows, contemplating what to do next.

In a hotel suite.

People gathered inside the suite, their clothes dishevelled, with minor injuries on their faces and bodies. They looked exhausted and in bad shape.

Liang Zhiyu came out of a bedroom and said, “I’ve bandaged Xiao Yang’s wound and administered medication. It shouldn’t be anything serious.”

Fu Chen sat on the sofa with a gloomy expression, his handsome face tense, and his dark eyes fixed on the ground.

The sudden appearance of zombies disrupted the team’s plan, scattering everyone. They also encountered a grotesque zombie monster that was difficult to attack due to its tough exterior. Despite their combined abilities, they couldn’t harm it. Two of Li Jin’s team members with special abilities were devoured alive.

Later, a level-five intelligent zombie emerged and abducted Bai Tiantian. Shen Mingxuan went after them but never returned.

If it weren’t for Xiao Yang trying to save Bai Tiantian, he wouldn’t have been bitten by the mutated rabbit. Fortunately, Liang Zhiyu acted quickly and saved him. It remained to be seen whether Xiao Yang could survive or not.

The team hadn’t even reached the City of Death when they faced this crisis, disrupting their original plan.

What was even more infuriating was Bai Qingqing’s disappearance. Li Jin used his psychic powers to search for her but couldn’t find a trace of her. She had once again gone missing.

“Li Jin, let’s go back, okay? Can we go back?” Xu Meng knelt by Li Jin’s feet, clinging to his legs and pleading, “I don’t want to die. You’ve seen it too, the fog is filled with monsters. We’re all going to die.”

Li Jin looked dejected, clenched his teeth, and remained silent.

Xu Meng became furious and slapped him, “You madman! You’ve caused the death of so many people for the sake of that unknown source of the disease. What more do you want?”

“Don’t drag me into your suicide mission. If it weren’t for you, how could I…” Xu Meng cried out in despair and anger.

She raised her hand again to slap him but was intercepted in mid-air. “Ah, it hurts!”

A large hand gripped her wrist, exerting so much force that it felt like her bones were about to snap. She looked up and saw the man’s extremely sinister expression.

Fu Chen held her wrist, his dark eyes filled with a chilling intent, and coldly said, “Say one more word, and I’ll throw you out right now.”

This woman and another ability user went out to do something else and even attempted to claim a rabbit for themselves. That’s how the zombies got in, causing a commotion.

Perhaps the intelligent zombie had been planning all along, secretly watching this group of survivors. But if she hadn’t let the zombies in, Bai Qingqing wouldn’t have accidentally lost track of them.

“Li Jin, save me! Please save me! My hand hurts so much, it’s going to break…” Xu Meng cried with tears streaming down her pale face, begging for help. “Why are you still standing there? He’s going to kill me!”

Li Jin is an irreplaceable genius scientist in the world. Every base wants him as a talent. As Li Jin’s girlfriend, no matter what mistakes she made, it wouldn’t lead to her being killed.

“Team Leader Fu,” Li Jin looked at Fu Chen and pleaded, “Xu Meng already knows she was wrong. Let her go.”

Fu Chen sneered, “You came out to find the source of the virus and brought along this thing. Are you intentionally seeking death?”

In fact, Li Jin didn’t intend to bring Xu Meng along. She begged to be his assistant, and he reluctantly agreed. He didn’t have strong feelings for Xu Meng and knew that she had used him. However, it involved a human life, so he couldn’t just let it go.

“Team Leader Fu, calm down,” Li Jin calmly said, “We should discuss our next plan. Should we go directly to the City of Death or stay in the Mist City to find people?”

Liang Zhiyu glanced indifferently at Xu Meng and said, “Li Jin is right, Team Leader Fu. We have more important matters to attend to.”

Fu Chen pushed Xu Meng away forcefully, giving her a cold stare. He said, “We’ll postpone the matter of the City of Death. First, we need to find the people.”

A frosty chill appeared between his eyebrows. Why did the intelligent zombie appear and abduct Bai Tiantian? What was going on?

“Roar~!” Roaring sounds kept coming from the tea room, sending chills down people’s spines.

Bai Qingqing looked inside through the small window on the door. Shen Mingxuan, who was tied to a chair, had already turned into a zombie. Fortunately, there weren’t many wounds on his face, but his expression looked ferocious. His eyes were bloodshot, ready to bite someone.

He had probably just turned into a zombie and sensed the scent of humans in the room. He was restless and violently struggled to break free from the chains.

Bai Qingqing thought to herself that it was fortunate that she had cleverly replaced the rope with chains. Even if he struggled hundreds of times, he could only obediently remain locked up.

She looked at the zombie version of Shen Mingxuan with a complicated gaze. Taking care of a zombie was more difficult than raising a pet. He didn’t seem like the obedient type. How should she take care of him?

For now, let’s not worry about him. Let’s get some food.

Bai Qingqing returned to the office and took out tools to start boiling water for a hot pot. The chili peppers were resting in the space, and only Xiao Zicao, who had returned from patrol, accompanied her to eat.

She put the thawed meat slices into the hot pot, along with some winter melon, white radish, and potatoes. The bright red hot pot simmered with hot steam.

Satisfied with the meal, she and Xiao Zicao cleaned up the office and lay on the sofa, taking out their phones to play games.

Her gaming skills were still terrible, and she quickly lost interest after playing a few rounds.

Setting down her phone, she listened to the music playing from it.

The female zombie was saved by a male zombie. If she hadn’t been mistaken, that male zombie was Zhou Hang, and he was carrying a girl on his shoulder who should have been Bai Tiantian, who should have been with the team.

Before she could fully contemplate this, a loud noise came from the tea room.

Bai Qingqing was speechless. This person sure knew how to make a fuss even after turning into a zombie. She got up and went to take a look. Just as she arrived at the door, she locked eyes with a pair of bloodshot eyes and was startled, “Holy shit!”

She patted her chest and stared at the man who had turned into a zombie. Was she mistaken? Shen Mingxuan had actually broken free from the iron chains.

“Roar!” The man without reason shouted at her.

Bai Qingqing glared at him and scolded through the door, “What are you shouting for? Do you still want to bite me or something?”

The man, who had lost his humanity and reason, began to bang on the door as if he wanted to break out. She quickly reinforced the door and tried to use her psychic power to influence him.

She had the ability to control mutated plants and animals, and zombies were also monsters. Could she use her ability to control him?

Strangely, the roaring Shen Mingxuan suddenly slowed down and became quiet. He stood there blankly, looking at her through the small window on the door.

A glimmer of surprise flashed in Bai Qingqing’s eyes. Could it be possible that this accidental encounter actually worked?
