This was the first time Mu Wanwan had ever seen the dragon who always appeared aloof and impossibly domineering shed tears.
Clear and warm, they fell from his dark eyes.
All she could see within them was sorrow and guilt that could no longer be concealed.
For a moment, Mu Wanwan did not know what to do.
She lowered her head, but the hand clutching his robes still refused to let go.
Over and over, she repeated, “You were the one who said you would take me away.”
Since he had promised to take her with him, he could not waver so easily.
A hand gently closed around her wrist.
Mu Wanwan watched her dragon’s long eyelashes tremble. Then he raised his large hand and stroked her cheek, as though the simple motion had exhausted all his strength.
Jiu Qing finally reacted as well.
Blazing fury filled her peach-blossom eyes. Ignoring the fact that her body had not completely recovered, she extended one pale hand and fiercely grasped at the empty air in front of Mu Wanwan.
Blood spilled from the corners of her lips.
A violent wind rose, and the surrounding space rippled.
Mr. Dragon’s previously concealed figure gradually appeared before Jiu Qing’s eyes.
A dragon whose presence was hidden so completely that she had been forced to pay a considerable price merely to see him.
The wind nearly knocked Mu Wanwan off balance. She raised an arm to shield herself from the cold gusts and saw Jiu Qing’s robes whipping wildly around her.
“So you were here after all.”
Jiu Qing’s icy gaze swept across Mr. Dragon.
A complicated feeling filled her heart—partly an attempt to provoke him and partly a desire to confirm something.
She spoke lightly, her voice filled with mockery.
“She’s such a wonderful woman. I like her very much, so I’m taking her with me.”
Mu Wanwan’s eyes widened slightly.
She could scarcely believe what she had heard.
In the next moment, she caught the meaningful glance Jiu Qing directed towards her.
Mu Wanwan felt both distressed and caught between laughter and tears, while anxiety surged within her.
How could Jiu Qing possibly like her in that way?
She was clearly trying to force this dragon to take Mu Wanwan away as quickly as possible.
They had no time left.
They could not continue delaying.
The instant Jiu Qing finished speaking, Mr. Dragon’s body visibly tensed.
For a moment, his handsome expression even twisted.
He raised his head and looked towards the incomparably beautiful little princess of the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan.
His dark eyes had already begun turning faintly red.
Their gazes met.
Jiu Qing saw the fiercely possessive look he directed at her—more savage than that of a wolf cub.
By the time Mr. Dragon regained his senses, he discovered that he had instinctively tightened his grip around Mu Wanwan’s hand.
He was truly that selfish.
He could even become jealous of a woman.
Finding the matter rather dull now, Jiu Qing raised a hand and wiped away the blood at the corner of her lips.
“Tch.”
She smiled at Mu Wanwan, walked to her side, removed a jade bracelet from her fair wrist, and stuffed it into Mu Wanwan’s hand.
“I’m beautiful, wealthy in spirit stones, and my talent isn’t bad either. I’m far more reliable than some handsome male dragon.”
“If you ever regret your decision, break this bracelet. I’ll come and take you away whenever you want.”
After speaking, she cast a provocative glance at a certain dragon.
Mu Wanwan felt that dragon’s grip around her hand tighten even further.
She hurriedly looked at Jiu Qing and took out all the medicinal pills she had prepared for both her and Uncle Zong.
Grabbing Jiu Qing’s hand, she said, “These are medicinal pills. Some of them are for Uncle Zong at Huayun Apothecary. Please help me—”
Before she could finish speaking, a powerful yet gentle force wrapped around her waist.
Mr. Dragon lifted her horizontally into his arms.
In the next instant, a violent sensation of weightlessness struck her.
Jiu Qing’s figure rapidly shrank beneath them. The cold wind howled past Mu Wanwan’s ears as they moved at tremendous speed.
She instinctively closed her eyes.
Her long hair scattered wildly in the wind, and through her blurred vision, she seemed to glimpse an endless sea of clouds.
“Hold on tightly.”
Mr. Dragon’s voice drifted towards her from a great distance.
Then Mu Wanwan heard a prolonged dragon roar echo from far away.
The familiar scene made her heart tighten.
Had members of the Azure Dragon Clan caught up with them?
Would they be overtaken?
Without hesitation, Mu Wanwan tightly wrapped her arms around Mr. Dragon’s neck.
Golden-white scales gradually appeared across his face, while the broken horn and half-bald ears she had not seen for a long time emerged once more.
She watched his legs transform into a dragon’s tail.
Half of the tail’s tip was missing.
Despite carrying her in his arms, he flew extremely quickly.
The remaining fur on his half-bald ears fluttered in the cold wind.
Perhaps still conscious of her gaze, Mr. Dragon pursed his lips and looked down at her rather awkwardly.
Mu Wanwan was nearly infuriated by this dragon.
At a time like this, he was still worrying about his appearance.
Setting aside the fact that he had already lost all dignity in front of her long ago, why was he not transforming into his true form and fleeing?
“Cold?”
Seeing her staring at him, the handsome dragon—who felt terribly guilty for forcibly carrying her away—lowered his head slightly.
His broken horn emitted a soft, lustrous glow and gently touched Mu Wanwan’s forehead.
A transparent spiritual barrier enveloped her, completely isolating her from the cold wind outside.
A small tear still clung to his eyelashes.
It struck the spiritual barrier, creating layer after layer of ripples.
Mu Wanwan felt both furious and warm inside.
She was extremely anxious.
“Transform into your true form and run! They’re about to catch up!”
Mr. Dragon curved his lips towards her.
Through the spiritual barrier, he gently kissed her lips.
Mu Wanwan only had time to see the fleeting killing intent in his eyes before thick black mist rose before her.
A low dragon roar sounded beneath her.
The entire world seemed to darken instantly.
The previously gloomy grey sea of clouds began churning.
Mu Wanwan suddenly saw two enormous furry ears beside the broken horn in front of her.
Her entire body rapidly travelled through the clouds.
Although the spiritual barrier firmly held her in place and prevented her from falling, Mu Wanwan still instinctively grabbed the enormous white ear that was missing half its fur.
It felt soft beneath her hands.
She could have buried her entire body inside it.
Mu Wanwan felt delighted, yet was also so nervous she could barely breathe.
She tightly gripped Mr. Dragon’s fur.
Sounds came from every direction around her. As the sea of clouds churned, she could see beam after beam of malicious gazes.
Mu Wanwan frowned deeply.
For a moment, she hated her own helplessness.
Biting her lip, she thought about what she could possibly do now.
That was right.
The Azure Dragon communication token Jiu Qing had just given her.
Mu Wanwan pierced her fingertip and quickly squeezed out a drop of blood, binding the Azure Dragon communication token to herself.
Almost immediately, Ao Qin’s furious voice sounded beside her ear.
“The sacrifices really escaped.”
A hoarse Azure Dragon voice followed. It sounded like an elder.
“He is extremely fast. He has recovered at least seventy percent of his strength.”
“This happened too suddenly. Three elders within the clan are currently in seclusion. Among the remaining dragons, only the Fifth Elder is fast enough to catch him.”
The voice paused.
“However, the Fifth Elder has only just broken through to the sixth rank. I’m afraid he won’t be able to defeat the ruler.”
“Damn it!” Ao Qin cursed.
After that, no dragon spoke further through the communication token.
It fell into silence.
Mu Wanwan’s heart had remained suspended ever since the chase began.
Yet hearing those dragons speak of how powerful her Mr. Dragon was made her feel slightly proud.
Her dragon was so formidable that even after recovering only seventy percent of his strength, those dragons could do nothing to him.
He was no longer the bullied little dragon cub who could only flee.
Nevertheless, she did not put away the Azure Dragon communication token.
She had not forgotten the words “blood sacrifice” that Jiu Qing had mentioned earlier.
If those dragons had long since decided to attack Mr. Dragon, would they truly give up merely because he had recovered some of his strength?
Sweat covered Mu Wanwan’s palm.
Feeling both frightened and anxious, she simply buried her entire body inside Mr. Dragon’s enormous furry ear and rubbed against it, using the sensation to ease the pressure of waiting.
However, she did not know that Mr. Dragon’s ears had always been extremely sensitive. →_→
Although their enormous size made them less sensitive than in his human form, they were still a very vulnerable part of his body.
The amount of force Mu Wanwan used while gripping his fur was neither too light nor too heavy.
Her hand happened to remain directly upon the area that produced the strongest sensation for the dragon.
Combined with the fact that she had buried her entire body inside his ear, the result was—
Extremely stimulating.
Incredibly stimulating.
The enormous Mr. Dragon’s flight path even began curving slightly, while his speed became much faster than before.
As a result, Mu Wanwan—still gripping his fur—heard a relatively young Azure Dragon begin cursing through the communication token.
“Damn it! The ruler suddenly sped up! I can barely see him anymore!”
Mu Wanwan was startled.
Was Mr. Dragon finally beginning to display his true strength?
Was he actually far more powerful than she had imagined?
Mu Wanwan could not stop the corners of her lips from rising.
Remembering the guilt that had filled his gaze earlier made her heart ache.
This dragon must have misunderstood her somehow.
Her life had not been nearly as difficult as he imagined.
After arriving in this world, she had gained him and Mengmeng.
Her existence was no longer an apparently busy yet utterly lonely stillness.
Even if unavoidable death and the Abyss awaited her ahead, she could calmly accept it and willingly continue forward.
Standing upon Mr. Dragon’s head, Mu Wanwan looked back.
The roaring and hissing Azure Dragons were gradually disappearing from view.
However, unease still lingered within her heart.
“Lord Ao Qin, we can’t catch them.”
An Azure Dragon’s voice sounded through the token.
Mu Wanwan heard Ao Qin mutter furiously:
“Those below the fifth rank are to withdraw. Guard every entrance to the forbidden grounds.”
Mu Wanwan released a breath of relief.
Before she could feel happy, she heard Ao Qin laugh maliciously.
“Three late sixth-rank elders from the Golden Dragon Clan have coincidentally returned from training.”
“They’re directly ahead of the direction that useless creature is fleeing.”
Mu Wanwan’s pupils contracted sharply.
She immediately shut off the communication token and urgently shouted into Mr. Dragon’s half-bald ear:
“Quickly, change direction!”
“Mr. Dragon!”
The instant her words fell, Mr. Dragon immediately rolled his enormous body over.
Mu Wanwan became slightly dizzy from the movement.
She tightly hugged his furry ear and felt the dragon beneath her accelerate even further.
A furious roar exploded beside her ears, so powerful it nearly shattered her eardrums.
Mu Wanwan’s vision blurred.
The spiritual barrier cracked halfway apart.
She could not resist looking back.
A massive blaze of golden fire erupted in the place where they had been only a moment earlier.
Three Golden Dragons, who had appeared from nowhere, opened their enormous mouths and roared towards them.
Something wet touched the side of Mu Wanwan’s face.
She raised a hand and wiped beside her ear.
Her palm came away covered in blood.
Her eardrums had ruptured.
She could no longer hear anything.
Gritting her teeth, Mu Wanwan retrieved a bottle of medicinal pills from her Spatial pouch and swallowed two of them.
She was, at the very least, a third-rank cultivator now.
This was merely a little pain.
She had to recover as quickly as possible.
