Mu Wanwan looked at Mr. Dragon sitting beside her as their spiritual senses slowly connected.
Perhaps they were extraordinarily compatible, or perhaps the mere contact between two spiritual senses naturally produced a different kind of sensation. Gradually, she began to feel warm, and the breathing beside her—which did not belong to her—seemed to grow increasingly rapid.
Only then did she notice that the powerful spiritual sense wrapped around her weak strand of consciousness had not moved at all.
Perhaps…
Mu Wanwan felt a little mischievous.
She gently moved her tiny strand of spiritual sense.
Before she could see Mr. Dragon’s expression clearly, a heavy weight pressed down upon her. Her back landed against the soft bedding as a certain dragon, unable to endure any longer, pinned her beneath him.
“Don’t move.”
His hoarse voice vibrated against her eardrums, accompanied by scattered streams of heated breath.
The double assault was too much for Mu Wanwan to bear. She instinctively shuddered, and her cowardly spiritual sense immediately retreated.
Mu Wanwan: “…”
Mr. Dragon: “…………”
Embarrassingly, Mu Wanwan heard his uneven breathing before he let out a soft laugh beside her ear.
“…”
Mu Wanwan desperately attempted to preserve her dignity.
“My head hurt a little just now.”
“Mm.”
Mr. Dragon graciously refrained from exposing her excuse.
In truth, the dragon was not doing much better.
Faced with Madam’s provocation, he had instinctively pinned her down. He had simply not expected their bodies to press so closely together.
She was far too soft.
The dragon could barely withstand it.
He exerted a little force through his long arms, bracing himself against the bed and putting some distance between them.
After both the human and dragon had calmed themselves slightly, Mu Wanwan finally heard him speak.
“Then… Madam…”
“Do you feel… better now?”
Mu Wanwan replied with a red face, “A-a little better.”
She cautiously extended her spiritual sense again.
This time, the dragon was not as shy as before.
His phoenix eyes lowered slightly, concealing the gleaming possessiveness within them, as he took the initiative to envelop Mu Wanwan’s spiritual sense.
Mu Wanwan resisted the urge to withdraw it and gradually began to adjust.
It was not completely unbearable.
Unlike direct physical contact, it did not produce that same trembling, tingling numbness. Instead, it felt rather novel.
Once Madam Dragon had adjusted, she kept her eyes open and watched her husband’s fluffy ears twitch endlessly.
From her angle, she could see that his entire face, along with his beautifully shaped neck, had turned an enticing shade of pink.
Mr. Dragon’s eyelashes trembled.
He closed his eyes and slowly conveyed everything he wanted to tell her but could not express through words. Bit by bit, the information travelled through the strands of spiritual sense touching hers and entered Mu Wanwan’s mind.
His shattered origin core, which was almost fully reconnected but still covered in cracks.
The laws of the dragon race.
The treasure hidden within the forbidden land.
The dangers of the inheritance grounds.
And everything he knew regarding the distribution of power within the dragon race.
He explained all of it to her, little by little.
Mr. Dragon was still adapting to the sensation of merging his spiritual sense with Madam’s. He was even worrying that the hesitation and fear he had secretly harboured might influence her decision.
Mu Wanwan, however, no longer had the attention to spare for those strange sensations.
Much of the information Mr. Dragon had given her connected with what they had purchased from the Xianqing Pavilion.
In an instant, she understood many things.
For example, why Ao Qin had not killed Mr. Dragon.
And why Mr. Dragon had always hesitated and wavered so repeatedly.
She had known he was injured, but she had never realised that his meridians had been completely severed and his origin core had shattered like a glass sphere into seven pieces.
Ever since transmigrating here, she had worked hard to cultivate and support their household. She knew Mr. Dragon was often in pain, but she had never imagined that his origin core had once been split into seven separate pieces.
It must have hurt terribly.
Even now, he had still not completely recovered.
As her thoughts became clearer, all the previously intimate and ambiguous feelings rapidly vanished.
When she finally understood what the inheritance grounds truly entailed, the fear hidden deep inside her heart surged forth completely.
The inheritance trial was brutal.
He might die.
She might lose him.
The realisation emptied her mind for an instant.
By the time she recovered, her entire body was trembling.
Mu Wanwan suddenly regretted purchasing the map to Yifa City from the Xianqing Pavilion with her pills.
Yifa, known as the City of Devils, was filled with dense and powerful demonic energy. The dragon army could not infiltrate it.
And that was precisely where the entrance to the inheritance grounds was located.
“I don’t agree.”
Mu Wanwan suppressed her hoarse voice.
Drawing strength from somewhere unknown, she abruptly rolled over and pinned him beneath her.
She met Mr. Dragon’s dark, startled eyes and repeated herself.
“I don’t agree.”
Mr. Dragon’s eyes widened slightly.
Through the place where their spiritual senses were intertwined, he sensed intense sorrow and fear no weaker than his own.
“You’re not allowed to go.”
For the first time, Mu Wanwan felt that she was being so wilful.
She did not suppress herself. She simply threw herself into his arms.
“Can you not go?”
Mr. Dragon finally understood what she meant.
Warmth gathered around his eyes, yet the corners of his lips rose uncontrollably.
He turned his head and carefully, tenderly kissed the crown of her hair.
Mu Wanwan found it difficult to accept everything at once.
Perhaps she had been far too optimistic before.
She had believed that Mr. Dragon would eventually recover. Even if he did not recover completely, she had assumed his condition would never become too serious.
She had not minded spending her life fleeing alongside him.
However, his origin core was cracked.
If he did not enter the inheritance grounds, he might never break through for the rest of his life. As time passed, he might even grow progressively weaker.
Even if she could eventually refine pills capable of repairing his origin core, the dragon and witch clans would not give them that much time.
She suddenly felt unable to breathe.
She opened her mouth, but apart from her increasingly short breaths, no words emerged.
The emotions flowing from her delivered a tremendous shock to the dragon, who had believed himself mentally prepared.
Although he was deeply moved, Mr. Dragon also felt slightly helpless.
“I’m confident,” Mr. Dragon said.
Mu Wanwan still felt miserable.
Even if he was confident, there remained a possibility of failure.
If he failed, she would still lose him.
And Mr. Dragon, this undergarment dragon—how many times had he struggled internally before finally telling her all of this?
This time, he had probably been unable to decide what he ought to do.
Yet Mu Wanwan understood his worries even more clearly than he did.
Before she could recover, she felt the dragon’s spiritual sense presumptuously wrap itself completely around hers.
As though comforting her, he said, “It will be all right.”
Ha.
Now he was even taking advantage of the situation.
Mu Wanwan’s heart was filled with anger and bitterness. She lowered her head and gently bit his Adam’s apple.
“Mm…”
Mr. Dragon had not expected his little wife to suddenly bite him, much less in such a fatal place.
For an instant, all the blood in his body seemed to flow backwards.
The sensation was overwhelmingly intense.
It felt as though, if she bit him once more, he would willingly hand his life over to her.
His spiritual sense shook violently.
Mu Wanwan raised her head and saw a fierce, almost terrifying desire in his phoenix eyes—something she had never witnessed before.
His frightening gaze seemed to suggest that he wanted to swallow her whole.
Yet she no longer felt particularly afraid.
She knew very clearly what she wanted.
Mu Wanwan blinked and tried hard to force back her tears. Facing his gaze, which had genuinely become much fiercer, she kissed his lips and rested her forehead against his.
Mr. Dragon could no longer restrain himself.
He wrapped his arms tightly around her waist and endured with difficulty.
“Be good.”
Mu Wanwan felt his long eyelashes brush against her cheek and hugged him tightly in return.
“If you absolutely must go…”
She heard herself say, “Take me with you.”
“Don’t think that…”
Mu Wanwan paused.
“…I’ll forgive you if you secretly leave.”
The time spent waiting and separated had already been far too long.
She could no longer endure it.
There were still words of love and thoughts that she could not bring herself to say aloud.
Imitating what he had done earlier, Mu Wanwan conveyed them all through their touching spiritual senses.
Relief flashed through Mr. Dragon’s eyes, as though he had finally received the answer he had been waiting for.
The hesitation within his heart melted and flowed away like a frozen stream beneath warm sunlight.
All that remained was his unwavering determination to succeed.
“Madam.”
Mr. Dragon held her and turned them over.
“Wanwan…”
He pressed his forehead against hers as his spiritual sense slowly approached her sea of consciousness.
Mu Wanwan did not resist.
The violent impact instantly deprived her of all thought and reaction.
All that remained before her were Mr. Dragon’s eyes, which had turned completely golden.
…
The Demon Realm
The weather that night was unremarkable. Thick clouds concealed most of the full moon, but that meant little to the Sun-Devouring Rat tribe, whose night vision was excellent.
Naturally, the newly appointed Demon King would not waste such a precious and beautiful evening.
The Sun-Devouring Rat tribe’s royals happened to favour peerless beauties. The nine-tailed fox clan—who had lost both their power and their backers, had once been their natural enemies, and were renowned for producing beauties—made an excellent target.
“Second Brother, why have there been fewer and fewer beauties recently?”
The king rubbed his chin, a lecherous glint passing through his tiny eyes.
“If this continues, won’t I be forced to take men instead?”
“Ugh.”
His second brother stroked his long, repulsive whiskers.
“Forget men. I still prefer female demons who are soft and fragrant. How could male demons possibly compare?”
The other Sun-Devouring Rats in the room laughed in agreement.
“Your Majesty, I wonder what benefits the dragon race promised us?”
An older Sun-Devouring Rat asked with a chuckle, intending to flatter him.
The king laughed as well.
“Nothing particularly significant.”
“The dragon territories are vast. When the time comes, we can simply demand more beauties from the spirit race, can’t we?”
The elder’s eyes shifted.
Realising that the king probably did not wish to discuss their compensation, he changed to a subject everyone enjoyed.
“Excellent! Hahahaha!”
The Sun-Devouring Rats burst into laughter again, as though those beautiful spirits were already theirs.
“Your Majesty.”
A beautiful little fox entered wearing revealing clothing.
Because of their peculiar preferences, six fluffy fox tails swayed behind her. They were soft and luxuriant, moving enticingly with every step.
She carried a jug of wine and smiled sweetly.
“Qin’er, come here.”
The king’s throat tightened as he stretched out a hand towards her.
He completely failed to notice that this fox demon, whom he had previously begun to tire of, now appeared so enchanting that she nearly stole his soul.
“All right~”
Jiu Qing’s version of “Qin’er” smiled beautifully.
Swaying her graceful figure, she slowly approached him.
“I want to serve Your Majesty some wine.”
She poured a cup and leaned bonelessly against the Sun-Devouring Rat.
“Good, good, good.”
The rat immediately agreed.
Under Jiu Qing’s expectant gaze, he took a sip of the “wine.”
The instant the liquid touched his mouth, the Sun-Devouring Rat realised something was wrong.
Before he could spit it out, a blade plunged into his chest.
The Sun-Devouring Rat’s eyes widened until they nearly split.
He stared fixedly at Jiu Qing, whose nine fox tails now danced behind her and whose red lips revealed sharp fangs.
Then he heard her shout in a deep voice—
“Attack!”
