Extra 2: Dragon Cub (4)
Mu Wanwan gazed at the large, snowy-white ball of fluff before her, now much bigger than he had been before, and felt her eyes begin to sting.
Her Mengmeng had returned.
“Chirp~”
Seeming to sense the fluctuation in Mu Wanwan’s emotions, Mengmeng considerately extended one of his little wings, whose feathers were still rather sparse, and patted her hand. It felt slightly ticklish.
Mr. Dragon’s expression softened as well. He extended his slender fingers and stroked the feathers atop Mengmeng’s head.
This nirvana had been extremely significant for Mengmeng. Not only had the bloodline within his body become purer, but his abilities had also grown stronger.
Although he had not lost his memories, he was still a new-born who had only just hatched from a phoenix egg. He could not speak yet and could only make tender chirping sounds.
Therefore, whether deliberately or not, a certain dragon put away the eggshell, tapped Mengmeng’s little head and told him,
“Mengmeng, from now on, your name will be **Long Mengyu**.”
Mu Wanwan, who was still immersed in the joy of reuniting with Mengmeng after so long:
“…………”
Regarding Mengmeng’s name, she had always thought there would be plenty of time in the future to discuss changing it with Mr. Dragon.
“Chirp?”
Mengmeng was immediately confused and failed to react.
“Your name,” Mr. Dragon repeated. “Long Mengyu.”
The air fell silent.
Mengmeng seemed to be processing this name. After a moment, he appeared to understand. Under Mu Wanwan’s slightly nervous gaze, he slowly turned his head, and his two enormous black eyes became wavy with distress once again.
Mu Wanwan: “…”
For the rest of the morning, Mengmeng completely ignored Mr. Dragon. He remained curled up in Mu Wanwan’s arms and refused to raise his head. =_=!
The delicate little wife and old father dragon felt somewhat aggrieved. Under his wife’s teasing yet sympathetic gaze, he obediently cleared an open area beside the lake, chopped down some trees and built them a house.
Mu Wanwan had been thoroughly exhausted by this dragon over the past few days. Now that Mengmeng had only just hatched, she also needed to prepare some food for him. Therefore, she did not help this time.
She quietly sat on a stool inside the barrier, holding the chubby bird in her arms as dust billowed outside and streaks of silver light occasionally flashed past.
“Chirp.”
After a while, the ball of fluff in her arms wriggled and raised his head to look at her—
Mengmeng was a boy.
Mu Wanwan rubbed his fluffy head.
“Mm. Mengmeng is a boy.”
“Chirp.”
Then why was he being called Mengyu?
Mu Wanwan: “…Mengmeng, do you not like that name?”
“Chirp, chirp.”
Would people mistake it for a girl’s name?
Mu Wanwan: “…They won’t.”
“Chirp.”
Mengmeng was a white phoenix. Why did he have to take the surname Long?
Mu Wanwan: “…Probably because Mr. Dragon’s surname is Long.”
“Chirp!”
Mengmeng could take his mothers surname Mu!
Mu Wanwan: “…”
Mengmeng’s argument was surprisingly reasonable.
After thinking about it, she said, “Then how about calling you **Mu Yu** from now on, Mengmeng?”
Mengmeng considered it for a while before softly chirping his agreement.
Mengmeng was already a big child now. His name naturally required his own approval!
Mu Wanwan felt like laughing. Looking at the house gradually taking shape outside, she became lost in a new train of thought—
Both she and Mr. Dragon knew that it was extremely difficult for two people with powerful cultivation and exceptional talents to have children of their own. One only needed to look at Uncle Zong and Aunt Yun to understand that.
Even so, the woman and the dragon occasionally wondered what they would do if they truly had a baby one day.
However, she had not yet thought about the matter of names.
Mu Wanwan returned to her senses and discovered that the chubby bird in her arms had already fallen asleep. Meanwhile, Mr. Dragon had finished building the house.
The barrier dispersed, and Mr. Dragon landed beside Mu Wanwan. Seeing that Mengmeng’s eyes were closed, he sneakily extended his spiritual consciousness and poked at Mu Wanwan’s.
“Madam, the house is finished.”
Mu Wanwan also carefully extended her spiritual consciousness.
“I know.”
The woman and the dragon childishly communicated through their spiritual consciousness, even though Mengmeng would not have heard them if they had simply lowered their voices.
Mu Wanwan placed Mengmeng inside something resembling a baby carriage that Mr. Dragon had made at some unknown point. Only after watching the dragon erect a soundproof barrier around him did she join Mr. Dragon in furnishing the house.
The house Mr. Dragon had built this time was no longer a tiny wooden cabin with only one room, like the one before. Instead, it was a much more elaborate courtyard residence. Mengmeng even had a small room entirely to himself, situated a fair distance away from theirs. →_→
“Mengmeng says he doesn’t want to be called Long Mengyu,” Mu Wanwan said after thinking it over as they passed through a corner of the courtyard.
Mr. Dragon instantly looked wounded. His ears drooped pitifully, and in frustration, he pulled Mu Wanwan tightly into his embrace.
He squeezed her so hard that she could barely breathe. Pressing against his chest, she continued,
“But he’s willing to be called **Long Muyu, Long Mu feather**.”
As soon as she finished speaking, his embrace tightened even further. There was a trace of joy in the dragon’s voice.
“All right.”
“Long Muyu sounds beautiful.” Mr. Dragon gently kissed beside her ear and said somewhat shyly, “Madam, if we have babies in the future…”
He paused and released Mu Wanwan.
Mu Wanwan looked into his eyes, which were sparkling with tiny chirp-like golden lights, and suddenly had a bad feeling.
The next moment, she heard the dragon say—
“If it’s a boy, we’ll call him **Long Mujiao, Long Mu Lovely**. If it’s a girl, we’ll call her **Long Mutian, Long Mu Sweet**. Does Madam think those names sound nice?”
Mu Wanwan: “………???”
She had been wrong. She should never have given Mr. Dragon a new approach to naming people. Those two names were far too strange!
“Mengmeng is still asleep.” The dragon seemed to think of something, and a faint blush appeared on his face. “Since there happens to be a lake here, could Madam help this dragon wash his scales?”
Mu Wanwan nodded. She had previously promised to wash Mr. Dragon’s scales, but the matter had been postponed until now.
The woman and the dragon arrived beside the lake. A warm breeze drifted across its surface, and when Mu Wanwan looked down, she could clearly see the bottom.
Perhaps because they had already done practically everything, her delicate little wife-dragon was far bolder than before. He quickly transformed into his half-dragon form, leapt into the lake and raised his eyes to look at her.
Mu Wanwan: “…Wait. Weren’t we going to wash the scales of your true form?”
The dragon swam around once, his golden tail rising from the water and glistening beneath the light.
“This form… can also be washed…”
He seemed somewhat guilty. The corners of his eyes were tinted red, and his long lashes lowered and trembled.
Mu Wanwan: “…”
She knew perfectly well what the consequences of agreeing would be. Nevertheless, faced with such an invitation, Boss Wanwan still consented.
And so, when Mengmeng woke again, he discovered that his mother looked as though she had been bitten by countless insects. There were red marks all over her body.
“Chirp!”
Were there insects here? They had actually dared to bully Mother! Mengmeng could roast every last one of them!
Faced with Mu Wanwan’s mildly accusing gaze and Mengmeng’s declaration, Mr. Dragon awkwardly rubbed his nose.
Several more days passed. On a beautifully sunny day, Mu Wanwan finally succeeded in properly washing the dragon.
She looked at the enormous dragon obediently lying before her. Each of his golden scales was several times larger than her entire body, though they were not especially dirty. Glancing at the scrubbing brush in her hand, she silently began washing Mr. Dragon’s true form.
The entire process lasted an extremely, extremely long time. Whenever she became tired, the dragon would transform into human form and carry her back. Along the way, they would occasionally make a little use of the cultivation technique the young Purple Dragon had given them and achieve another round of dual cultivation.
Neither of them paid much attention to the passing of time—
Every day, Mu Wanwan helped Mr. Dragon clean his scales, gave Mengmeng his early education, occasionally refined pills and cooked meals.
Mr. Dragon obediently allowed his wife to do whatever she pleased with him. He taught Mengmeng how to cultivate, occasionally went out to deal with certain matters or search for ingredients, and cultivated together with his wife from time to time~
Mengmeng’s daily routine began with waking up and receiving a lesson from his old mother: a chirpy bird must have principles and be kind. Even if a chirpy bird possessed an enormous number of spirit stones, he absolutely could not throw them directly at people’s faces.
Afterwards, he was allowed to eat. Then his old father would teach him that a chirpy bird absolutely had to know how to fight—how to cultivate, and how to use his wings and flames to roast anyone who attempted to bully his mother or himself.
When he went to sleep at night, Mengmeng would secretly look forward to having younger brothers or sisters—
Once he had younger siblings, perhaps he would no longer have to spend so much time being educated every day?
A simple life made it easy to forget the passage of time. By the time they had completely cleaned Mr. Dragon’s true form, they had already lived there for more than three months, and the season had slowly advanced into midsummer.
Several nights before they were due to leave, Mengmeng was placed in one of the smaller rooms to sleep.
The dragon was rather excited and kept clinging to her. After yet another indescribable interlude, he abruptly stopped moving. Mu Wanwan felt his entire body stiffen.
“G-Get up.”
“Wan… Wanwan…” The dragon was almost incoherent, his voice carrying an emotion she did not understand. “Dragon cubs…”
Mu Wanwan was left dazed by him as well. Her mind went blank for a moment. Once she recovered, she hurriedly looked within her own body.
The body of a wood spirit was different from that of an ordinary human. Within her dantian, which had previously contained nothing but abundant spiritual energy, there were now two tiny lives—so small that they would have been impossible to detect without searching carefully.
