Extra 2: Dragon Cubs (5) — Jiaojiao and Tiantian
After unexpectedly discovering signs of dragon cubs, Mr. Dragon fell into an unprecedented panic. He had originally been half leaning over Mu Wanwan, but he immediately rolled to the side and went completely rigid.
Unlike moments earlier, when he had been clingily murmuring her name, the entire dragon was now frighteningly quiet. Only his long arm remained gently wrapped around her. Mu Wanwan could feel faint tremors travelling through his body, and even his long, nearly vertical eyelashes were trembling.
She wanted to laugh, but she could not quite manage it.
Looking inward at the two tiny lives within her body, Mu Wanwan’s mind went somewhat blank. She had never expected them to conceive so quickly—and there were two of them. Wasn’t it said that people with exceptional talent had difficulty producing offspring?
When the babies arrived, how were they supposed to raise them? Neither she nor the dragon had any experience caring for new-borns. When she had first found Mengmeng, he had already passed the stage immediately after hatching.
Even when Mengmeng underwent nirvana and hatched again, he had emerged as a large ball of fluff.
How were little dragon cubs supposed to be fed?
The more Mu Wanwan thought about it, the more worried she became—until she felt something warm and damp fall against her neck.
A slightly rough palm slowly stroked her sweaty forehead and gently tidied the strands of hair clinging to it.
Mu Wanwan looked at the dragon beside her. His brilliant golden eyes were filled with tears. They fell one after another, kissing her cheeks and leaving damp traces upon his lashes.
He was biting his lip tightly, as though he had already lost the ability to speak.
He seemed even more nervous than she was.
Mu Wanwan suddenly felt a little better. She reached out, held Mr. Dragon’s neck and kissed the corner of his lips.
The dragon’s lips were trembling slightly. He stared at her for a long time, unable to say a single word.
Mu Wanwan waited patiently until she finally heard him choke back a sob beside her ear.
“Mm… Madam…”
Mu Wanwan: “…”
Why was he still crying?!
After unexpectedly learning that they had dragon cubs, Mr. Dragon recovered from his brief shock and refused to allow Mu Wanwan to continue to the demon realm, no matter what she said.
That was right. They had originally agreed to visit the demon realm next.
Mu Wanwan did not particularly object. She also felt that she ought to rest and take good care of herself. Although Mengmeng’s presence had already allowed her to become a mother in advance, she had never experienced giving birth—much less carrying dragon cubs—so she was still somewhat nervous.
The dragon was even more nervous than she was. He immediately brought Mu Wanwan and Mengmeng home.
Once Mu Wanwan and Mengmeng had fallen asleep that day, he urgently summoned the dragon officials he had not seen for quite some time.
“Your Majesty, are you saying that… the queen is expecting?”
After Mr. Dragon’s half-hinting, half-anxious questioning, the young Purple Dragon was the first to understand and asked timidly.
“Mm.” Mr. Dragon felt somewhat uncertain. “What should we pay attention to?”
The young Purple Dragon, who had tried for five or six years without managing to get his partner pregnant:
“…”
The Black Dragons who did not even have partners:
“…”
After a moment of silence, the young Purple Dragon forced himself to answer.
“Based on the experiences of the older members of my clan, I think she should eat more and rest properly?”
Looking at his officials’ expressions, Mr. Dragon understood that they did not know either. Without wasting any time, he immediately hurried to the demon clan.
Jiu Qing, who had only recently confirmed her relationship with Wu Jin, happily congratulated him and Mu Wanwan on expecting children. However, she had no experience with pregnancy and suggested that Mr. Dragon ask Uncle Chen and Aunt Hua.
Aunt Hua and Uncle Chen were also delighted for them. Unfortunately, they did not intend to have children themselves and therefore had no relevant experience. They suggested that Mr. Dragon search the alliance for information.
Mr. Dragon consequently spent a considerable number of spirit stones purchasing a large pile of reference materials and brought them home.
After thinking it over, he travelled across nearly half the continent and purchased numerous supplements as well.
Therefore, when Mu Wanwan woke, she found herself facing a mountain of foods whose names she could not even identify—and a certain dragon buried among piles of books, laboriously trying to read them.
“Madam.”
Mr. Dragon immediately sensed that she was awake.
“How do you feel? Are you uncomfortable anywhere?”
Mu Wanwan stared at the book in his hands, titled *How to Care for a Human Wife*, and fell silent for a moment.
She very much wanted to tell the dragon before her that she could no longer truly be considered human. After being reincarnated as a wood spirit, she was, strictly speaking, now a wood demon.
In the end, however, Mu Wanwan merely said,
“I feel quite well.”
The dragon visibly relaxed. He picked up Mengmeng from Mu Wanwan’s arms and gestured with his eyes for her to eat more.
“Long Muyu has gone to cultivate.”
Mu Wanwan: “…All right.”
In truth, she was not hungry at all.
After an entire month of anxiety, Mu Wanwan—who was still slightly unaccustomed to everything—showed no signs of discomfort whatsoever. Even the two tiny lives inside her had only grown a little and were still far from fully taking shape.
Mr. Dragon, who had exercised remarkable restraint and refrained from doing anything to his wife, finally finished reading all the books he had brought home.
After hastily making up for his lack of knowledge, he was no longer excessively nervous.
Dragon babies generally took a very long time to form. Even after becoming dragon eggs, they required a long period before they could hatch.
During the period between the cubs beginning to take shape and the birth of the dragon eggs, there were no major restrictions besides ensuring that the mother received sufficient nourishment. In fact, the father’s spiritual energy could even help the babies develop better.
And so, Mr. Dragon—who seemed to have suddenly understood something—stopped restraining his instincts. He had apparently discovered the perfect excuse to remain constantly attached to his wife. →_→
Half a year later, the tiny lives inside Mu Wanwan still had not fully formed, and she remained perfectly healthy. Only then did the woman and the dragon finally stop worrying altogether.
They first lived in the Demon Realm for two and a half years, then spent another half year among the yao clan.
In the fifth year after their wedding, Jiu Qing and Wu Jin married.
As Mu Wanwan gazed at Jiu Qing’s radiant smile and gentle eyes, her heart overflowed with blessings and emotion.
In the tenth year after their wedding, Uncle Zong and Aunt Yun’s baby was born. It was an adorable little beastfolk child.
The beastfolk couple had once believed that they would never have a child in this lifetime. Yet perhaps, after they finally let go of their worries, a miracle occurred.
In the fifteenth year after their wedding, Mengmeng was finally able to assume human form.
“Mother.”
The little bean, who did not even reach her knees and had yet to grow all his teeth, clung to Mu Wanwan’s leg and complained in baby talk,
“Daddy won’t let Mengmeng eat sweeties.”
Behind him stood Mr. Dragon, anger gathering beneath his dark brows. He glared at Mengmeng, who was hiding behind Mu Wanwan, and gritted his teeth.
“You already have cavities.”
Mu Wanwan bent down and found Mengmeng wearing two little braids and a long pink robe his old father had bought for him. He pursed his lips pitifully.
Time passed swiftly.
In the year when Jiu Qing’s child had already turned five, on a rather warm spring night, the dragon cubs inside Mu Wanwan finally finished forming.
After a period of utter chaos, Mu Wanwan stared at the two round dragon eggs before her with considerable embarrassment while Mr. Dragon picked her up and spun her around several times.
Then, in the year when Mengmeng finally reached her knees, during early autumn—
Mu Wanwan sat in the courtyard sewing clothes for Mr. Dragon and Mengmeng, while Mr. Dragon had gone out in search of food.
Only Mengmeng remained inside the room where the two dragon eggs were kept.
Mengmeng, who had grown extraordinarily slowly, gazed expectantly at the two eggs, which had now become much, much larger.
He stood up, kissed the egg on the left and called softly,
“Jiaojiao~”
Then he planted another kiss upon the egg on the right and called,
“Tiantian~”
Harbouring the small private hope that he would soon have two little sisters, this was something Mengmeng did every day before his afternoon nap. ^w^
Before long, however, Mengmeng began to grow sleepy. His eyelids drooped, and he was about to fall asleep when—
**Crack.**
A faint sound rang out.
The dragon egg on the right appeared to move.
“Mother!”
Mengmeng immediately called for Mu Wanwan. Mr. Dragon, who was tens of thousands of miles away, also sensed something and began rushing home.
However, the dragon cub hatched far too quickly.
By the time Mu Wanwan reached the doorway, she discovered that Mengmeng had transformed into an enormous white ball of fluff at some point and was now pinned to the floor.
A tiny baby girl with fluffy ears, little horns and a slightly overlong tail lay on top of him. Her toothless mouth was wide open as she gnawed on Mengmeng’s neck.
Naturally, she could not actually bite him.
She merely ended up with a mouthful of fur.
Mu Wanwan: “…………”
“Chirp…”
Mengmeng did not dare to move. He was afraid that he might accidentally hurt the little sister clinging to him.
Mu Wanwan stared at the child, who could not yet open her eyes and, truthfully, was not particularly beautiful.
Yet an indescribable emotion surged through her heart. Tears threatened to fall from her eyes.
She hurried forwards and lifted her daughter from Mengmeng’s body. Wrapping the little princess in a soft cloth that had long since been prepared, she carefully wiped away the sticky fluid still clinging to her tiny dragon horns.
Space rippled behind her.
Mr. Dragon appeared at Mu Wanwan’s side almost instantly. When he saw the tiny bundle in her arms, half of his eyes immediately turned red.
**Crack.**
Only a few seconds after Mr. Dragon returned, the other dragon egg split open.
Mengmeng had only just climbed up from the floor when he was pinned down again.
This time, it was a tiny dragon covered in gold-and-white scales. He opened his enormous mouth—which contained only a single little tooth—and bit down fiercely upon Mengmeng’s neck.
“Chirp…”
This time, it genuinely hurt.
The chubby bird burst into tears and complained bitterly.
His little sister had no teeth, so her biting had not felt like anything. But his little brother had a tooth, and his bite hurt so much!
*Waaah! Why did both his younger siblings like eating their big brother?!*
Mu Wanwan, who was still immersed in the joy of having a daughter:
“…”
She had only just gained a little princess, yet in the blink of an eye, she now had both a son and a daughter.
Mr. Dragon, who had just kissed the little angel’s forehead and was still filled with joy:
“…”
This gold-and-white dragon cub, Jiaojiao, looked almost exactly like Mr. Dragon had when he was young.
