Blushing All the Way to the Neck
Old Master Jun was almost truly angered into having a stroke by Jun Yueyue. He sneered and, in his rage, spoke without thinking. “You and him having a child? You’d only give birth to a fool!”
The moment those words were said, Jun Yueyue suddenly fell silent. Her expression darkened and her brows furrowed. Old Master Jun was already old. He realised that he had gone too far, but he could not lower his pride and make amends. He could only glare at Jun Yueyue with a fierce expression that hid his inner weakness. Just as he was about to say something else, there was a knock on the study door.
Jun Yueyue turned to look toward the door. Old Master Jun cleared his throat and said in a deep voice, “Come in.”
The person who entered was Jun Yu. The one pushing her from behind was Fang Anyan.
No one knew whether the two of them had heard Jun Yueyue and Old Master Jun’s conversation just now. In any case, neither of them looked very good. Jun Yu’s gaze met Jun Yueyue’s, and the expression in her eyes was complicated. Jun Yueyue felt goosebumps rising from the way Jun Yu looked at her. Thankfully, Jun Yu quickly moved her gaze away.
“Yu’er, is something the matter?” Old Master Jun sat in his seat, leaning on his cane and trying his best to control his emotions. But his expression really could not be called pleasant.
Jun Yu forced a smile and said, “Grandfather, a friend of mine is getting engaged. She thought I was in Qiuhai City, so she called a little late. The engagement banquet is tomorrow evening, so I’m preparing to return to Qiuhai City today.”
It could be seen that Jun Yu was doing her best to smile through it. Fang Anyan also spoke at this moment. “Old Jun, there’s been a problem with an overseas project at home recently. I have to rush back too. I can conveniently send Jun Yu to Qiuhai City on the way.”
Old Master Jun was silent for a moment before nodding. Jun Yueyue immediately followed up, “Your brother has to go back with you too, right? Then I’m going back too!”
“You can’t!” Old Master Jun growled. “I’ve already arranged meetings with some old friends. I’m taking you to meet them over the next two days. Besides, that piece of land—you have to go and inspect it in person, then give me a feasible preliminary proposal…”
Jun Yu’s face turned pale. Fang Anyan’s expression did not visibly change, but his complexion did not look too good either. When Jun Yueyue heard Old Master Jun say this, she knew he had made up his mind. Just refusing would not be enough. She had to do something practical to properly anger him.
So she nodded and murmured in agreement very well, looking as if she had compromised. Then, when Fang Anyu left with Fang Anyan and the other two, she sent Fang Anyu a message:
Before you get on the highway, find a way to make your brother stop and wait for a while. I’m going back to Qiuhai City too. Wait for me!
So after Fang Anyan’s car drove away, Old Master Jun thought Jun Yueyue had become obedient and was pleased enough to agree to send a car to take her to the mall to choose two dresses. Jun Yueyue entered through the front door of the mall, went out through the back door, hailed a taxi, and sped straight toward the road out of Xiude Town back to Qiuhai City.
They had to speed, because Jun Yueyue had paid the driver extra. There were no surveillance cameras in this area, and the driver drove the taxi so fast it almost flew off the ground.
Sure enough, at the fork just before the highway entrance, Jun Yueyue saw Fang Anyan’s car. Fang Anyu was clutching his stomach, bracing himself against the car door. Fang Anyan was extremely anxious and reached out to support him, saying who knew what. But Fang Anyu only shook his head and waved at him, refusing to be supported, refusing to be sent to the hospital, and even refusing to communicate…
The moment Jun Yueyue got out of the taxi, Fang Anyu immediately straightened up and looked toward her. He looked exactly like a big dog asking its owner for praise after doing a good job. If special effects were added, the tail behind him would definitely be wagging madly.
The moment Jun Yueyue saw him, she could not help smiling. Fang Anyan, who was standing beside them, saw the two of them like this. Expressionlessly, he raised a hand and wiped the cold sweat from his face, sweat that had just been frightened out by his brother. He now understood. His brother had not been feeling unwell just now at all. He had clearly been deliberately delaying time.
However…
“What’s going on with you?” Fang Anyan looked at Jun Yueyue. “Didn’t Old Master Jun say he was going to take you to meet the shareholders?”
Jun Yueyue clicked her tongue. “Didn’t you hear the conversation between me and Grandfather? Why are you pretending?”
She pulled open the car door and got in. Fang Anyu quickly followed her into the car.
Fang Anyan had indeed heard the conversation between Jun Yueyue and Old Master Jun. She had kept saying she did not want to become the person in charge of the Jun family, and she had even said she had fallen in love with his brother…
Fang Anyan did not believe a single word.
Pushing away power that had already fallen into one’s hands—that was something only a fool would do. Fang Anyan was a businessman, and from a businessman’s perspective, Jun Yueyue’s actions were simply too inconceivable.
But what did it have to do with him…
After getting into the car, he glanced at Jun Yu. In the end, that piece of land had not fallen into Jun Yu’s hands. The marriage that Old Master Jun had hinted at between them was probably not going to happen either.
The Fang family would have to continue struggling to raise financing everywhere. But for some reason, Fang Anyan actually felt as if he had released a heavy breath of relief.
He looked through the rear-view mirror at the two people whose heads had leaned together again. He did not know what they were laughing about. He slowly inhaled, then exhaled. His whole body felt both heavy and light.
The heaviness came from the fact that the Fang family would have a difficult road ahead, and how far they could go would depend on luck. The lightness came from the fact that he no longer had to forcibly cultivate feelings with someone…
Jun Yu also looked into the rear-view mirror from time to time. Jun Yueyue and Fang Anyu were messaging each other. She was telling him how she had shaken off the driver following her, escaped from the women’s bathroom to the back door, and then thrillingly taken a taxi out.
Fang Anyu’s eyes were wide, full of interest. It sounded exactly like a movie scene. His expression made it obvious he regretted not experiencing it together with Jun Yueyue.
Jun Yu withdrew her gaze. She also took a light breath, then slowly exhaled. Her eyes looked at the scenery speeding past outside the window, then through the car window at Fang Anyan’s handsome side profile. She pursed her lips.
Jun Yu had once prepared herself to cultivate feelings with Fang Anyan, even to live with him for the rest of her life, because she knew that if one wanted to obtain something, one had to lose something of equal value.
Fang Anyan really was very handsome. But the reason Jun Yu most liked looking at him, often until her face flushed red, was not because he was handsome, nor because she was shy or embarrassed. It was because Fang Anyan’s side profile looked very much like someone else.
In her heart, there was a very, very hidden secret, covered in a thick layer of dust. No one had ever known it. In the past, she had never dared touch it. But now, she slowly reached out a finger and tried to brush away the dust covering it.
When she had still been studying at an aristocratic high school, because of her family’s special circumstances, even though she could not stand up, she could still study alongside normal children from very well-off families.
When they were young and in school, there were always many things that belonged uniquely to youth, yet were also crazy. The most romantic of all was probably when the boy with the best grades in the whole school and the most handsome boy both liked the same girl and arranged to fight at the school gate because of her.
Jun Yu was mentally mature for her age and had never cared about this kind of thing. But she was the person involved. When the two boys fought fiercely and blood was drawn, she still went to stop the fight.
Her deskmate pushed her there. At the time, Jun Yu had actually felt puzzled. She was indeed delicate and pretty, but there were many children from good families at the school. Girls were also more mature than those in ordinary high schools. There were countless girls who knew how to dress up and display their strengths. Why would those two boys like her, someone who could not stand up?
Did they have a disability fetish?
But her confusion was brief, because things had been like this since she was young. She seemed destined to be the focus of the crowd. So when she went to stop the fight, the two boys questioned her on the spot, asking whom she chose.
Jun Yu had everything except the stirring feelings of youth. Aside from standing up, she had no other desire. Who would she fall for?
No one.
She said she did not like either of them. The two boys left in embarrassment, and from then on, they took detours whenever they saw her.
But that day, what left the deepest impression on Jun Yu was not the hot-blooded youths fighting over her love. It was a person selling grilled sausages at the school gate. After she rejected the two boys, he very quietly sneered, seemingly replying to a chubby boy beside him.
“Was it worth fighting until blood came from their noses and mouths, just for a cripple? She’s in a wheelchair—is she lame, or does she have no legs?”
That voice was too piercing. Jun Yu had never been spoken of like that since childhood. Everyone had always looked at her with regret and told her that even if she could not stand, it did not affect anything. In that instant, she felt as if she had been stripped naked in public. Or as if, while immersed in something, she had been woken up by a blow from a stick. Her face burned red, and she was so ashamed she wished she could disappear.
But the conversation under the tree-lined path did not stop there.
“You like that kind? Tch. Someone like her—if one day she could stand in front of me and beg me to be with her, maybe I’d consider it because her family has money.”
At that time, Jun Yu wished she could find a crack in the ground and crawl into it. Holding back her humiliation, she turned back to look and only saw that man’s—or rather, that boy’s—side profile.
That glance was too deep, and the words he said were too piercing. So later, with a feeling even she could not understand, she deliberately went to buy grilled sausages, though she never ate them. After she had done this several times, one day, when she threw the grilled sausage into the rubbish bin, that person grabbed her hand.
He directly and roughly shoved the sausage, covered in a thick layer of chilli powder, into her mouth. It was salty and spicy, just like him, and just like the words he said.
He stuffed the remaining half into his own mouth. His cheeks bulged as he smiled with ill intentions. He almost pressed close to Jun Yu as he said, “Little girl, if you want to seduce big brother, just buying sausages won’t work.”
That boy used his somewhat greasy hand to brazenly pat Jun Yu’s leg, even pinching it. He was far too close when he raised his brow at her and said in an utterly rogue-like manner, “So you do have legs… But you can’t even walk, yet you’re bold enough to provoke me. Do you know who I am?”
That boy had a buzz cut, and there was a scar near the side of his ear, winding toward the back of his head. Seeing a girl running toward Jun Yu, he turned his head slightly and, using that side profile Jun Yu remembered so deeply, casually said something shocking.
“If you can stand up, big brother will feed you a real sausage. Not spicy.”
After he left, Jun Yu sat stunned on the tree-lined path. Even after her classmate pushed her back, she remained dazed for a long time. After that, a long time passed before she asked her family whether she still had any possibility of standing up.
There was a possibility. But she would have to undergo major surgery, and both legs below the knees would have to be amputated…
Jun Yu did not want to lose her legs. After that summer holiday, she never saw the boy who sold grilled sausages again.
She had not recalled this matter for many years. Now, looking at Fang Anyan’s side profile reflected in the car window, Jun Yu reached out and traced a few lines on the glass. Then she glanced again at the rear-view mirror. An emotion she had never felt before surged into her eyes.
That was no longer the gentleness and obedience she had carried since childhood. It was a rebellious emotion that absolutely should not have appeared in her eyes. For the first time, she thought that she had always walked along the path set by her family and had never felt there was anything wrong with it. But one day, when that balance was broken and the things that “should have belonged to her” no longer belonged to her, she finally discovered that perhaps the thoughts she had always held were wrong.
Why could she not be like her sister and fight for what she wanted?
She had things she wanted too.
Jun Yueyue and Fang Anyu had been messaging each other the whole time, completely unaware that she had inspired some incredible change in the female lead. She was somewhat curious about why Fang Anyu had come out so quickly that morning after she barged into the bathroom. Surely he could not have been directly frightened limp by her.
So after the two of them ended their conversation about the water on the road and how good last night’s skewers had tasted, Jun Yueyue suddenly sent a message:
This morning… you finished that quickly?
Fang Anyu looked at the message Jun Yueyue sent him. After being stunned for a while, he suddenly raised his head and looked at her. Then his face turned red all the way down to his neck.
Jun Yueyue had already guessed his reaction after asking, but guessing was one thing. Actually seeing Fang Anyu’s reaction still made her unable to stop herself from laughing out loud.
The movement on their side quickly attracted Fang Anyan and Jun Yu’s attention. Both of them looked at the rear-view mirror at the same time.
Jun Yueyue leaned back in her seat laughing, then nudged Fang Anyu with her elbow, signalling for him to quickly reply.
Fang Anyu glared at Jun Yueyue with a red face. He almost never looked at people like that. Jun Yueyue had already stopped laughing at first, but after being glared at by him, she started laughing again.
And she wickedly continued messaging him:
Did I scare it back?
After Fang Anyu finished reading the message, he stretched out his foot and kicked Jun Yueyue. His expression was indescribable. Then he turned his head toward the car window and ignored her.
Jun Yueyue leaned against the back seat and laughed for a while. Once the laughter passed, she reached out and poked Fang Anyu’s arm again and again, thinking about how to coax him.
Before she could think of anything, Fang Anyu took out his phone and sent her a message.
I wasn’t scared by you. I rinsed it with water.
Fang Anyu was just like this. Jun Yueyue had never met someone so easy to coax. Looking at this reason, Jun Yueyue barely held back her laughter and typed again with a rather serious expression:
You forcibly rinsed it back? Was it cold water or hot water?
These words were already entering rogue territory, but Fang Anyu actually replied seriously.
Cold water.
Jun Yueyue first laughed, then held it back, making her cheeks hurt a little. She reached up to support the corner of her eye, deeply feeling that she could not go on like this. Otherwise, before long, she would laugh wrinkles all over her face.
But the return journey was still long and boring. Jun Yueyue really had nothing else to do, so she continued teasing Fang Anyu:
That won’t do, right? Couldn’t rinsing it like that break it?
If the previous words could still barely count as concern, then the later ones were purely her acting like a hooligan. Fang Anyu was a little slow, but by now, even he reacted. He turned his head toward the car window again and ignored Jun Yueyue.
But he was easy to coax. Jun Yueyue leaned closer to him, shook his arm, and squeezed his hand. He turned back again. However, after staring at Jun Yueyue for a while, he typed a line and sent it to her.
If you’re curious, I can show you tonight. It isn’t broken.
After reading it, Jun Yueyue froze for a moment. Then she widened her eyes and looked at Fang Anyu in disbelief.
Whether Fang Anyu’s thing was broken or not, she did not know. But Jun Yueyue now knew that Fang Anyu himself had gone bad.
Who did you learn this from!!! Jun Yueyue sent three exclamation marks in a row.
After Fang Anyu read it, he quickly replied:
You.
**Nomad: I’m dying… (≧▽≦)ゞ The banter in this novel is crazy! When Jun Yu mentioned the side profile, I got worried for a second. I couldn’t help but think, Where is this crazy novel going? Surely she doesn’t have eyes for Fang Anyu too?!
When I realised it was someone else, I sighed in relief—only to be shocked by the words coming out of his mouth. Hahaha, what a hooligan!! (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)**
