MDMSC Chapter 65

It Was Actually Her!

After those people were shocked unconscious, Ji Fei, who had been hiding nearby, quickly went forward again, took away their guns, and nearby dismantled several skipping ropes to tie them up.

“I already checked. Apart from these few, there’s only one woman in the supermarket manager’s office. She looks like she was being held hostage by them,” Ji Fei said to the people walking over.

The young man who had been shot in the shoulder had already passed out from the pain. After these people were dealt with, Fang Anyu quickly treated him. He used an extremely thin vine to remove the bullet, then swiftly healed him.

The young man had been terrified. He had trained so hard; he did not want to die just like this.

But when he discovered that, apart from the blood already spilled on his body, his wound had only left behind a pink scar, he sobbed uncontrollably and kowtowed to Fang Anyu.

“Thank you… thank you!”

In a society where order had collapsed, ordinary people like them truly had such a difficult time surviving. Whether it was injury or illness, either could be fatal. If he had not been lucky enough to live within this group, if Fang Anyu had not known how to heal, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Fang Anyu, however, did not care much. He immediately ran to Jun Yueyue’s side and held her. Jun Yueyue turned back and smiled at him, comforting him. “I’m fine.”

Huai Wenzhi’s electric ability was no ordinary electricity. Exactly how many volts it had could not be determined, but the fact that these four people had not been directly shocked into charred corpses clearly showed that Huai Wenzhi had not treated them like zombies.

The four were tied back-to-back. Ji Fei’s knotting method was not something an ordinary person could break free from.

Jun Yueyue walked beside Ji Fei, looked at the four people leaning together in unconsciousness, and said faintly, “They have no need to remain alive.”

Everyone clearly agreed with Jun Yueyue’s words.

They searched the supermarket several times. Some people also went upstairs in the mall to search. Strangely, they discovered that apart from the zombies in the lobby at the beginning, there were no other zombies inside.

In the entire large shopping mall, the only survivors were this group of five, plus the woman they found in the storeroom, wrapped tightly from head to toe.

This was truly strange. But considering that those five had guns, perhaps they had already cleared out most of the zombies in the mall.

Everyone began moving supplies according to the original plan.

The woman they found did not speak. She curled up in a corner without moving, her eyes staring fixedly at one spot. She looked as though her mind had been overstimulated.

Jun Yu was not there. Among this group, Jun Yueyue could still count as relatively gentle, so she was responsible for communicating with this woman. She said many things, but the woman only glanced at Jun Yueyue and wrapped herself even more tightly.

Jun Yueyue gritted her teeth. She could almost imagine what had happened to this woman to make her become like this.

When she looked at the tied-up people, it was truly as if she were looking at dead men.

However, this woman’s eyes gave Jun Yueyue an inexplicable feeling. For the moment, she could not grasp exactly what felt strange. She only comforted her, saying, “Come with us. We have a base. There are many, many companions there. Everyone is very friendly. No one will dare hurt you again.”

The woman’s pupils were a little pale. When she heard “many, many people,” she finally looked at Jun Yueyue. Her gaze fixed on Jun Yueyue’s face for a moment, and only then did she lightly nod.

Jun Yueyue breathed a sigh of relief and, like everyone else, began moving supplies.

After the truck was filled, the mall had still not been emptied. They sealed the entrance and drove back.

The four people were violently woken up by them. As the vehicles drove toward the resort, they were pushed off the truck.

No survivors had been found in this large mall, but they had found many people’s clothes, piled up in a storeroom. All kinds of models and sizes, all stained with blood, yet the actual people had vanished without a trace.

They could not have been zombies, because there was no rotting flesh on those clothes, no pus from zombies. They were intact clothes covered in blood.

There was no need to doubt it. It was not that this place had no survivors. It was that all of them had been killed by this gang of beasts using cruel methods.

Perhaps, if they had not arrived, this woman would have been next.

Jun Yueyue had once nearly fallen into the hands of that Jiang boy. What they had done back then had been Jun Yueyue’s nightmare in her previous life. Her preconceived impression made her overlook the inconsistency about the woman, and also overlook why this gang of beasts, while guarding such a large supermarket, would go out of their way to kill people. Anyone would know that with sufficient food, the more people there were, the safer it would be.

Jun Yueyue’s group did not see that when the four unconscious people were thrown off the truck to feed the zombies, the woman who had been curled up and wrapped tightly turned her head.

Under the black cloth wrapped around her head, her eyes gradually grew paler and paler, turning gray-white. Because she smelled the sweet, bloody scent that spread when zombies tore flesh open, her bright red tongue stretched out, licked the corner of her mouth, and quickly withdrew.

So hungry.

A hunger that could not be filled no matter what.

Her stored food had been wasted just like that.

Their journey back to the resort went unbelievably smoothly. On the way, Fang Anyu sat beside Jun Yueyue the entire time. Every now and then, he would frown and close his eyes. But after a moment, he would open them again with a puzzled expression.

He seemed able to sense the existence of a zombie. A very powerful one.

But when he tried to sense it carefully, it disappeared.

And around the truck, there was no zombie horde surrounding them. Nor did he sense the presence of any second-level zombies.

“What’s wrong?” Jun Yueyue noticed his abnormality and asked. “Why are you frowning? Are there second-level zombies?”

Fang Anyu shook his head.

The feeling just now had clearly been very strong. He had even felt that a powerful zombie was not far from him. But that feeling had flashed by and vanished. Now he could no longer sense it.

Fang Anyu thought perhaps there was a hidden second-level zombie somewhere on the street interfering with him, so he shook his head to indicate that nothing was wrong.

This trip could be considered a great harvest for everyone.

For Jun Yueyue, being able to watch the Jiang boy die made her incredibly happy. A disaster like him left in the human world was a dog-like thing more poisonous than zombies.

As for Ji Fei, she had not touched guns in a long time. Getting several at once, along with quite a few bullets, made her overjoyed. Although her ability was unique and allowed her to hide among zombies and ambush second-level zombies, which was very powerful, when dealing with ordinary zombies, even if she transformed into her deceased mercenary teammate, a physically strong black man, she was still far weaker compared to mutated ability users. Her offensive power was truly not strong enough.

With guns, she could regain that sense of reliance. No one understood what kind of guarantee a gun meant to someone who lived walking along the line of death.

The arrival of a large batch of supplies was also just in time to distribute and settle the newly joined survivors in the resort.

The drawbridge was raised, cutting off the terrifying world outside.

They had gone from a small group to a large family.

However, the woman rescued from the mall was rather unsociable. She refused to change her clothes, refused to reveal her face, and refused to communicate with anyone. In such hot weather, she wrapped herself until only her eyes were visible, watching anyone who approached her with vigilance.

Jun Yu, who was responsible for distribution and arrangements, had no choice but to find Jun Yueyue.

“Sis, you were the one who persuaded her to come back. She’s wary of everyone. Can you try?”

Jun Yueyue had just finished showering. The sky was about to darken, and she was very tired, but she still personally went to find the woman and spoke with her in the square.

“You don’t have to be afraid. No one here dares hurt you,” Jun Yueyue said. “Are you injured? We have nurses here who can give IV drips. If the injury is serious, we also have a wood-type ability user who can help heal you. You saw it, right? The young man who was shot when we went there? Even a wound like that could be healed.”

Jun Yueyue’s gaze was gentle.

Actually, when she was gentle, she too could drown people in it. Especially speaking softly like this, no matter who heard it, they would feel comforted.

But this woman only wrapped herself in black like a veiled woman. Her pale pupils looked at Jun Yueyue, and a complicated emotion briefly appeared in her eyes.

It was only very brief. Jun Yueyue did not manage to catch it.

Ji Fei’s eye colour was also rather pale because she was mixed-race. This woman’s eye colour was pale too. But it gave Jun Yueyue a sense of déjà vu.

Very quickly, however, the woman lowered her gaze again. No matter what Jun Yueyue said, she did not raise her head anymore, much less respond.

In the end, Jun Yueyue had no choice. However, thanks to her persistent efforts, she did manage to communicate one thing with this woman: she was unwilling to live in the accommodation hotel with the majority of people. Jun Yueyue instead managed to persuade her to live in their little village.

But the better houses in the little village had already been occupied. In the end, only one remained, at the very end of the village. The sign on the door read Widow Wang’s House. It was still liveable.

A few kind older sisters helped clean it up, and the woman moved in.

Because Jun Yueyue repeatedly tried to persuade her and she still refused to let anyone examine her body, no one forced her further.

After working until dark, Jun Yueyue returned home.

The door closed from the outside, cutting off those enthusiastic people.

Because the sky had darkened, and because the windows were somewhat small, the room was dim. Yet this was exactly what the woman in the black robe was used to.

She stood at the door of the room for a very, very long time. Her stomach was especially hungry.

Someone had given her a lot of food, but she had not touched any of it, not even had the desire to look at it. What she craved was not normal human food. What she craved was fresh blood, living flesh with body heat, and human bones that crunched crisply when chewed.

However, she knew that she had to temporarily lie low and disguise herself in order to relax the vigilance of the people around her and eat fresh, delicious living people.

Her memories were extremely chaotic, but she remembered that she had once been a living person.

She remembered the scene of herself jumping into the zombie horde and being torn apart. She also remembered the woman who had just spoken to her.

But she merely remembered. She could not give birth to any emotion.

To her, everyone here was the same.

They were her stored food.

The black robe was slowly removed.

Her sunken skin had been formed from flesh that had been torn away by force. It covered her entire body, including her face. Those places lacking flesh had not scabbed over. Instead, they displayed a deep red color with visible muscle texture, looking extremely horrifying.

Her eyes, with no one present, slowly turned back to gray-white.

She was no longer human.

Yet she was still human.

A zombie who could blend among crowds, who possessed breath, even a heartbeat and memories.

The guns that Jiang’s group had picked up were precisely the guns from the soldiers Wu Zhenfei and the others had been with when they encountered the zombie tide.

And this woman was none other than Ming Zhen, who had, at the time, jumped out of the car of her own accord in order to make Jiaojiao and that officer surnamed Zhang agree to take Wu Zhenfei away, helping them shake off the zombies pursuing them.

Ming Zhen remembered everything.

She remembered all the pain of being torn apart, and she remembered Wu Zhenfei’s face as he lay unconscious in the car when she jumped.

She remembered Jun Yue. She remembered everyone.

But she could not remember any emotion. She did not know why she had jumped into the zombie horde for Wu Zhenfei. She only knew she was very hungry.

Ming Zhen remembered that after falling into the zombie horde, in order to lure those zombies elsewhere and stop them from chasing the car Wu Zhenfei and the others were in, she had not simply waited for death. She had struggled and fought back madly.

When a person reached extreme madness, their strength became enormous. She remembered holding an iron rod at the time and smashing open a zombie’s head. Then… by great coincidence, that had been an ability user who had not yet fully zombified. Its brain matter and blood splattered onto Ming Zhen’s face, and some unknown piece of something was swallowed by her.

Then she became like this.

She did not die.

The zombies also stopped biting her.

But she was neither a zombie nor a living person, because she could not feel pain, could not feel temperature, could not feel anything at all.

She could only feel hunger.

Ming Zhen wandered among the zombies for a very, very long time. Gradually, she remembered everything. She began searching for traces of survivors, trying to ask for help.

But with her terrifying appearance, everyone’s first reaction upon seeing her was to kill her.

After suffering too many failures, Ming Zhen began learning to disguise herself.

She wrapped herself up completely and successfully blended into a group of survivors. But being close to humans was truly too painful. She could not eat any human food, because she was no longer human…

Ming Zhen did not know what she was. But she could drive zombies away.

She had once helped humans and restrained herself. But as long as she revealed her appearance, knives would try to stab into her head.

Once, after she had just helped survivors drive away zombies, yet was stabbed by them, Ming Zhen could no longer endure it and bit that person.

Then everything went out of control.

She seemed to enter a berserk state. In that state, she ate people. By the time she completely came back to her senses, that entire group of survivors was already dead.

And around her, hundreds upon thousands of zombies had gathered, wandering by her side.

Day and night, she could not feel sleepiness or fatigue. There was only heart-tearing hunger.

She began searching for the next group of survivors, blending among them, and then manipulating zombies to intercept and kill them.

She needed a great deal of fresh flesh and blood.

After Ming Zhen took off her clothes, she stood in front of the mirror and looked at her neither-human-nor-ghost appearance. She tried to lift the corners of her mouth. She knew that was called smiling. But her muscles no longer obeyed her.

She smashed the mirror and once again realized that she was no longer human.

After accepting new people this time, the base did not plan to search everywhere for survivors in the short term. But they needed to collect supplies, so every morning, they divided into two groups and left the base to search for food and daily necessities outside.

Among the new arrivals, the ability users had already joined basic training. Not only training, but also cooperation with each other. For example, water-type and electric-type abilities worked together perfectly. Fire-type and light-type abilities were also unbeatable at night.

Ordinary people had also joined zombie-combat training. They started with zombies whose teeth had been pulled out and nails clipped. Now, ordinary people’s training had already changed to real zombies, only with their ankles chained.

Everything was proceeding in an orderly manner. People in the base got along harmoniously. Because a great deal of physical strength was spent on training, fights were rare.

And because Fang Anyu’s ability grew stronger the more he continuously released it, they had opened up a small patch of barren mountain behind the base. The vegetables could basically already supply the people in the base. The ones catalysed by his ability were not only large; even the tomatoes were as sweet as fruit.

The women, who were naturally weaker in physical strength and had not mutated later, were responsible for the logistics of the entire base: distributing supplies, managing the collective canteen after training, sewing, mending, washing, and cleaning. The whole resort was full of vitality.

Although there was a feeling of returning overnight to the era before liberation, compared to the man-eating world beyond the drawbridge, they were undoubtedly happy and fortunate.

In a world like this, it was extremely rare for there to be no class division between the strong and the weak, and for stable peace to be maintained. So the people inside respected the few people in charge very much.

Gradually, because Jun Yueyue had experience from surviving the previous apocalypse, she contributed greatly to decision-making and ability-user training. On top of that, her partner Fang Anyu had the most special, most powerful ability in the entire base, as well as the rare healing ability. Her younger sister Jun Yu was also the person distributing supplies in the base. So the people in the base began to tacitly regard Jun Yueyue as the boss. Wherever she went, groups of people greeted her. Li Li, on the other hand, became like her lackey.

When Li Li came running to ask Jun Yueyue about everything, Jun Yueyue was truly annoyed beyond endurance.

She did not want to be some base boss. Her ability was not even the strongest in the base.

Sometimes, when Jun Yueyue was truly annoyed, she would secretly run off with Fang Anyu to the back mountain and hide. Of course, it was not only hiding. There were many things one could do on the back mountain.

Jun Yueyue still had not told Fang Anyu that ability users might be unable to have descendants.

Fang Anyu worked very diligently. Also because of his mutation, that aspect of his ability gradually climbed to the point where Jun Yueyue found it a little hard to bear.

That day, Jun Yueyue had run to the back mountain with Fang Anyu to hide from Li Li. But when they returned, her hands and feet were weak, and Fang Anyu had to carry her down the mountain on his back.

Jun Yueyue rested her head on Fang Anyu’s shoulder and said in an extremely helpless tone, “Let’s discuss something, buddy. At least leave me my life. I’ve noticed you’re becoming more and more unrestrained. Just now, I clearly begged you like that, and you still didn’t stop.”

As she spoke, she felt more and more that Fang Anyu had done it on purpose. She bit his shoulder with a huff.

The corners of Fang Anyu’s mouth carried a faint smile. Carrying Jun Yueyue down the mountain, he did not look strained in the slightest. Instead, he even bounced her upward a little. He did not care that she was biting his shoulder, acting as if he had not heard anything.

The tacit understanding between the two of them had already reached a certain level. Sometimes, when they went out now, Fang Anyu did not even bring his phone.

Jun Yueyue could not bite him hard enough to hurt him. If she used too much force, she would feel bad herself. So she simply loosened her mouth and continued muttering on his shoulder, “Back then, I truly didn’t know you were actually this kind of person. Tell me, how well did you pretend? And now look, your true form has been exposed, hasn’t it…”

Fang Anyu’s steps paused slightly. He pressed his lips together, then pinched her thigh with the hand holding it.

Jun Yueyue let out an “ao!” and jerked, grabbing Fang Anyu’s hair and tugging at him.

“Look at you! Look at you! Where did your old gentleness go?!” Jun Yueyue said. “I was really deceived by you so miserably…”

As soon as these words fell, Fang Anyu directly let go.

Caught off guard, Jun Yueyue slid off his back and fell straight onto the grass behind him.

She sprawled out on all fours and watched Fang Anyu turn around. Their eyes met. Jun Yueyue patted her hands and laughed with a “hey.”

“Your temper really has grown now. Tell me, back then, were you just pretending all along?” Jun Yueyue said. “Your essence is that of a white lotus. Don’t even deny it!”

It was noon now. Sunlight spilled down from above. Fang Anyu stood against the light, his brows and eyes as gentle as they had been back then.

In truth, Fang Anyu had never changed.

It was only that life would never remain like the first meeting. When you met someone, spent time understanding them, even fell in love with them and stayed together, you would discover that they were different from the person you initially knew.

This was the most ordinary thing. Many people could not accept such changes, believing that if a person was a certain way, they should remain that way from beginning to end. That was only because you had seen only one part of them and had never fully understood them.

From the time Jun Yueyue met Fang Anyu, to when she fell in love with him, to now when she was with him, every change in Fang Anyu might have surprised her in places. But what had never changed was that she had always liked him.

Fang Anyu was the same. No matter how the world changed, no matter how the environment shifted, as long as he stood there quietly, looking at Jun Yueyue with lowered brows and calm gentleness, he was still the white moonlight who had made Jun Yueyue quickly forget years of secret love within a short time and transfer her affection elsewhere.

Yes. To Jun Yueyue, Fang Anyu was like white moonlight.

“Why are you looking at me like that? It’s kind of scary,” Jun Yueyue said. She was sighing inwardly, but could not help smiling. Whenever she was with Fang Anyu, she always could not help wanting to smile.

Fang Anyu slowly crouched down in front of her and reached out to touch Jun Yueyue’s face. Then, as if burned by something, he withdrew his hand. He pressed his lips together and lowered his head, his ears turning shyly red.

Jun Yueyue said, “You really were tricking me and seducing me back then, weren’t you?! I call you fat and you start panting! Acting, are you?”

Fang Anyu looked at Jun Yueyue with innocent eyes. As if frightened by her voice, he shrank his shoulders slightly, then somewhat exaggeratedly fell backward and sat on the ground. His eyes dimmed, making him look like a child abandoned by the world.

His hair had been redone. It had grown too long, so all the curled parts had been cut off. Now it was a very ordinary black short hairstyle, falling messily over his forehead. Instead, it made his whole person look a full four or five years younger, truly like a boy of only eighteen or nineteen.

Jun Yueyue felt as if her heart had taken a critical hit. Gritting her teeth, she pounced forward and grabbed Fang Anyu by the neck.

“Keep pretending. Go on, keep pretending! You just finished bullying someone, and now you’re acting like a white lotus!”

Fang Anyu did not struggle. Jun Yueyue was not using any strength at all, but his eyes reddened. His eyes filled with mist as he looked pitifully at Jun Yueyue.

Jun Yueyue: “…”

Damn it. That look was exactly the same as when he had once held the little goldfish and chased her on the main road!

Exactly the same!

Back then, he clearly had not recovered his memories yet!

Some things really could not be thought about carefully. Once you thought about them carefully, you would realize that if someone was truly afraid of the dark, how could they crouch in the grass in the middle of the night and, while others were unprepared, drag someone into the grass to do this and that?

But if you said he was not afraid of the dark, then why, on a night when the power went out, had he kept leaning against her, trembling so convincingly?

Jun Yueyue moved her lips. Facing Fang Anyu’s tear-filled eyes, which were simply heartbreakingly beautiful under the sunlight, she truly did not know how to describe him.

When was he acting real, and when was he acting fake?

Was he just a little white flower, or was he truly a white lotus spirit? Sometimes Jun Yueyue was also confused.

But very quickly, Jun Yueyue stopped thinking so much. Because Fang Anyu’s slightly parted lips, misty tearful eyes, and reddened eye corners were truly too lovable.

Jun Yueyue could not resist and lowered her head to kiss his lips.

Fang Anyu held Jun Yueyue. The two sat on the grass like this, kissing each other for a long, long time, using silent language to express their love.

Unlike the romance and beauty on their side, at this very moment, in a corner of the base, a girl whose entire body was tied up, tears and snot running all over her face, was trembling as she looked at the woman in a black robe standing before her.

“Wu wu wu, mm mm mm…”

What exactly do you want?!

The person tied up was none other than Jiaojiao. Today, she had originally been clearing weeds behind the base with a group of people. Halfway through, to slack off and avoid the blazing sun, she pretended to have a stomach-ache and ran to squat in the shade, refusing to go back out.

But she had not expected that after staying under the tree for only a while, she would suddenly be struck hard on the back of the head by a thick tree root.

Before passing out, she only saw darkness.

Now, after being splashed awake with water, she discovered that she was actually outside the base, at the base of the large wall behind it, inside a dense thicket.

The reinforced stone wall looked impossible to climb. She did not know how this woman in the black robe had brought her down from that wall.

What was her purpose?

Why had she tied her up?!

This strange woman, a survivor who had only come in some time ago and had been hiding in her room without coming out to work, what exactly did she want to do to her?!

Jiaojiao cried desperately and shouted desperately. But her mouth was gagged, and the sounds she made could not travel far at all. She struggled with all her might, but she was tied so tightly that she could only wriggle on the ground like a maggot.

And this black-robed woman had no idea how long she had already been standing there watching her. She did not move at all. Only her eyes stared fixedly at Jiaojiao, not even blinking once.

Jiaojiao sensitively sensed danger, but she could not save herself. After struggling for a while, she leaned against the wall and began begging with tears and snot streaming down her face.

Of course, because her mouth remained stuffed, she could not make any specific sounds. She could only whimper. But her eyes clearly revealed her terror and pleading.

Yet after such a long time, this woman remained completely unmoved. She only tilted her head slightly and looked at her, like a great tree or a puppet, terrifying and eerie.

In reality, Ming Zhen was only hungry.

She was starving to death.

During this period, everyone who had come into contact with her had been bringing her things. Ming Zhen had wanted to drag someone inside and eat them, because she was truly so hungry she was going mad.

But those people smiled at her. Although the things they gave her could not be eaten, they had given them to her of their own accord.

Ming Zhen no longer remembered how long it had been since someone had voluntarily given her something. When she had previously blended into survivor camps, no one had given her anything, even things she could not eat.

These days, Ming Zhen seemed to remember some more things. She could not say what they were, but she knew that the people who brought her things did so out of goodwill.

What was goodwill?

It was something she should have understood back when she had been human. But now she was only a zombie.

Perhaps that was not accurate either…

Ming Zhen could not accurately determine what she was. Because she did not rot, and she could even change her eyes to a colour close to normal human eyes. She could even speak.

It was just that she needed to eat people to temporarily relieve her hunger. If she went too long without eating, she would be unable to walk. She would become weak enough to die.

That did not seem right either.

Had she already died?

Ming Zhen knew that only by hiding among the crowd could she have fresh flesh and blood to eat. But this was the first time she had attacked someone from this base.

Ming Zhen knew the woman in front of her.

She remembered what this woman had done. In order to live, when they were escaping, she had encouraged the officer surnamed Zhang, saying that as long as they threw one living person down, those zombies would stop following them.

There had been too many zombies that day. Far too many.

They had grabbed that small car, and only four survivors had been in it. This woman had already hooked up with the officer surnamed Zhang. The only ones forced to get out were Ming Zhen and Wu Zhenfei.

Wu Zhenfei had been unconscious then, and he had injuries on his body.

Ming Zhen remembered that at first, the decision had been to throw him out. But in the end, she herself had chosen to jump out of the car.

Ming Zhen tilted her head and looked up at the sky. Birds flew past. But when the bright sunlight reflected into her eyes, there was still only dead gray.

She had thought for so many days and still could not understand.

Why had she jumped down for Wu Zhenfei?

Oh, right.

Wu Zhenfei was also in this base.

Ming Zhen had seen him from afar twice. But every time she got close, Ming Zhen would feel uncomfortable.

She had not felt anything for a long time, but as soon as she saw Wu Zhenfei, the heart that had long since stopped beating would twist in pain.

Ming Zhen thought: then she would eat him last.

She would eat this one first.

However, Ming Zhen was not in much of a hurry. This woman was completely powerless before her, but Ming Zhen liked watching her struggle and cry. So she had watched for a long time.

From when the sun was directly overhead until it sank toward dusk, Ming Zhen stared at Jiaojiao.

She watched until Jiaojiao no longer struggled, no longer cried, and no longer begged. Jiaojiao leaned lifelessly against the reinforced stone wall behind her, still clinging to the lucky thought that this strange woman did not intend to hurt her.

Jiaojiao thought hopefully that once night fell, the people counting heads would discover that she was gone. Then someone would come looking for her!

But after Ming Zhen discovered that she no longer cried or struggled, she completely lost interest in her.

At the moment the sun finally sank, under Jiaojiao’s terrified gaze, Ming Zhen removed the cloth covering her face.

To eat, this cloth was in the way.

But the instant Jiaojiao saw Ming Zhen’s true face, infinite terror burst out in her eyes.

She recognized her!

It was actually her!

How could it be her?!

Wasn’t she supposed to have died in the zombie horde? She had clearly seen her jump into the zombie horde with her own eyes. There had been absolutely no possibility of survival!

Why would she appear here? Ahhhhhh—

Jiaojiao’s collapsing screams were all muffled in her mouth.

When sharp teeth completely tore open her neck, her eyes were still full of disbelief.

The sunlight completely sank beneath the horizon.

The vengeful ghost demanding life had finally crawled out of the earth. All sins and debts would be repaid in the unseen order of things. No one could escape.

Ming Zhen had not eaten in a long time. She ate especially much, eating Jiaojiao until only her head remained. Her stomach was large and protruding. Fortunately, the robe she wore was rather big, hiding her bloated, swollen belly, now stuffed with too much flesh.

Crunch, crunch, crunch—

After chewing the final finger, Jiaojiao was left with only a head that died with eyes wide open. Her eyes were still staring, but the color inside them had already vanished.

Ming Zhen was reluctant to throw it away. The head was the most durable part to chew. She could gnaw on it for several days.

First, she used some branches to tie the head up, preparing to carry it. But when climbing the wall, it was inconvenient. So she used her black robe to wrap the head instead. Only then did she climb the stone wall using both hands and feet.

The wall had already been reinforced by Li Li. It was smooth and difficult to grip. Yet under Ming Zhen’s hands, it was as if there were places to hold. Her palms only needed to press against it, and they seemed to firmly stick there. In a few movements, she climbed up.

Because bones were harder to chew, this meal had taken a very long time.

Ming Zhen was satisfied. It was already very late. She had no intention of lingering outside and prepared to return, because at night, someone always came to knock and confirm whether she was there.

If she wanted to blend into this crowd and avoid being discovered too quickly, she had to obey their rules. Ming Zhen understood this principle.

Ming Zhen passed through the dark back mountain, holding Jiaojiao’s head in her arms as she quickly headed toward the place where she lived.

But halfway there, because she was running too hurriedly, she nearly collided with someone coming out from around a corner.

Ming Zhen was startled. The head in her hands rolled to the ground and directly rolled to that person’s feet…

Ming Zhen glanced at the place where she lived. It was not far away.

If this person had seen it, then she would grab him too and take him away as an extra meal!

But when she saw clearly what the person before her looked like, Ming Zhen suddenly seemed as if she had been nailed to the ground by countless steel spikes. Her entire body stiffened, unable to move at all.

Her heart twisted in pain again.
