Xiao Yang knew very well that Shen Mingxuan was no longer their teammate but an enemy of humanity. The battle wouldn’t end until the zombie wave was over, and he had to fight, burying any complex emotions he had.
He killed zombies, he killed malicious thugs, but he never thought there would come a day when he would personally take the life of a former teammate.
Zhou Hang had already led Yang Li to jump off the city wall. Once injured, the zombies would lose control and disperse. He needed to take Yang Li to a safe place and give her commands from there.
Bai Qingqing looked nervous and worried. She was afraid for Fu Chen’s safety, and she was also worried that Shen Mingxuan might get killed. She was like an ant on a hot pan, desperately searching for a way out. This kind of battlefield was not what she wanted.
What should she do? What should she really do? It was absolutely impossible for her to go with Shen Mingxuan. She had just reunited with Fu Chen and wanted to spend some time with him.
As the Zombie Emperor, Shen Mingxuan was stronger in both strength and physique than Fu Chen and Xiao Yang. Even when they joined forces against him, they couldn’t gain the upper hand.
The area of the battle was highly destructive, causing both supernatural beings and humans to keep their distance. Even she could only watch from a distance, helplessly witnessing Fu Chen and Xiao Yang getting injured.
Xiao Yang, being young and careless, was impaled by an ice spike that rose from the ground, piercing through his chest.
“Xiao Yang!” Bai Qingqing exclaimed loudly in shock.
Fu Chen and Shen Mingxuan were engaged in aerial combat while Xiao Yang, with an ice spike piercing through his body, lost the ability to move. Blood stained the ice, and he continuously coughed up blood.
Bai Qingqing was at a loss, standing helplessly in front of him, her hand reaching out but afraid to touch him. Tears streamed down her face.
She could disregard the life and death of others. She had experienced too much death, and she had become numb to it. But Xiao Yang was different. He was her friend.
“Xiao Yang, how are you? Don’t scare me…”
Xiao Yang endured the pain in his chest and weakly spoke, “Qingqing, don’t cry.”
More bright red blood flowed from his mouth, and his pale and weak appearance was heart-wrenching. At this moment, he was comforting her while facing imminent death. He truly wanted to look at her a little longer, just like Fu Chen had felt when he was on the brink of death.
“Stop talking,” Bai Qingqing choked on her words.
“Qingqing, promise me…” Xiao Yang’s breath grew weaker, and he struggled to keep his eyes open, wanting to look at her a bit longer. He finally understood how Fu Chen felt. When facing death, one truly wanted to see more of the person they loved.
“Shut up, you brat!” a male voice came from behind.
Bai Qingqing, tearful and shocked, looked up and exclaimed with a mix of surprise and joy, “Liang Zhiyu.”
The man was dressed in the Snowfield Base combat uniform, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, and had a gentle and reassuring presence as he approached Bai Qingqing.
Liang Zhiyu took out a handkerchief and handed it to her gently, saying, “It’s not a good look for a girl to have tears all over her eyes. Quickly wipe them away.”
Bai Qingqing grabbed the handkerchief anxiously and looked towards Xiao Yang, saying, “He’s dying.”
“He won’t die,” Liang Zhiyu walked over. “Don’t forget, I’m a doctor.”
Liang Zhiyu looked at Xiao Yang’s severe injuries and used his ability to instantly cut through the ice spike that ran through his body. He pressed his slender fingers on Xiao Yang’s chest, and a small space froze, causing the blood flowing from his wound to gradually slow down.
Bai Qingqing finally breathed a sigh of relief in her heart. As long as Xiao Yang didn’t die, everything would be fine.
She looked towards the distance with worry. Thick dark clouds formed a vortex, terrifying lightning intertwined like silver serpents, freezing the sky and earth, and flames devoured the sky like a fire dragon.
A fire-based superhuman, that was… Bai Qingqing’s heart trembled. It must be Cheng Rui who had arrived.
Humanity saw hope from the desperate situation under the overwhelming zombie tide and rose up to resist, vowing to defend the survivor base with their lives.
“Qingqing,” Liang Zhiyu called out to her. “Come over here and help me.”
Bai Qingqing hurriedly ran over, and Liang Zhiyu spoke gently, “Do you remember what I taught you before?”
“Yes,” Bai Qingqing took out various medical tools from her spatial ability. The superhumans had created a small space for them to use as a makeshift operating room.
Bai Qingqing stood by Liang Zhiyu’s side, handing him whatever tools he needed. Time passed by minute by minute.
After an unknown amount of time, Liang Zhiyu took off his gloves and wiped the sweat off his forehead. “Alright, this kid is lucky. The ice spike missed his heart by a bit. If it had pierced through his entire heart, no one could have saved him.”
Outside, there were loud cheers breaking through the clouds. Bai Qingqing ran out and stood on top of the wall. The zombie tide had dispersed, leaving only a few wandering zombies in the wasteland.
“Qingqing,” Fu Chen’s voice came.
She turned around and saw two tall and strong men walking towards her, both with blood stains on their faces. They were Fu Chen and Cheng Rui. She hurriedly ran towards Fu Chen.
“Brother, are you okay?”
Cheng Rui looked at Bai Qingqing with a deep gaze. Her appearance hadn’t changed much, but she looked even more beautiful and captivating than before.
He almost greedily gazed at her. From hearing about her death to searching all over for her, his heart was filled with scars. Being able to see her again was the greatest blessing for him.
“Cheng Rui,” Bai Qingqing greeted him proactively. “You’re here too.”
Cheng Rui didn’t know what to say, so he could only call her name softly, “Qingqing.”
Bai Qingqing hesitated for a moment and asked cautiously, “Did you kill Shen Mingxuan?”
Fu Chen held her hand and walked with her, saying, “He escaped. Under the joint attack of everyone, Shen Mingxuan had to retreat temporarily. Without the Zombie Emperor, the zombies lost control and scattered, and the Jingzhou Base won.”
After repelling three waves of zombie tide, Jingzhou Base was jubilant. Everyone’s faces were filled with joy after surviving such a catastrophe.
The Zombie Emperor could only launch a zombie tide once every month. This time, both the Zombie Emperor and his subordinates were injured, so there would be no movement from them within the next month.
After repelling the zombie tide, Jingzhou Base quickly handled the aftermath. After being apart for so long, everyone gathered again to discuss the future.
Li Jin, belonging to Jingzhou Base, was a scientist who had developed the virus vaccine. Liang Zhiyu and Cheng Rui had received invitations to come to Jingzhou Base, and they coincidentally arrived during the zombie siege.
Liang Zhiyu and Cheng Rui arrived just in time to help, which seemed accidental but was actually within Fu Chen’s calculations.
Xiao Yang was sent to the hospital for treatment of his severe injuries, and everyone was temporarily arranged to stay at Fu Chen’s house for a few days. Liang Zhiyu and Cheng Rui wouldn’t stay long in Jingzhou Base as they were leaders of the Snowfield and Yaoyang Bases, respectively. After discussing matters, they would leave to return to their bases.
Naturally, Bai Qingqing followed Fu Chen back to his house and was arranged to stay on the third floor. After fighting the female Zombie King for so long, her body was covered in sweat and dirt, so she quickly took a bath.
After not resting properly for the whole day, she fell asleep in the warm bathtub. At some point, she was awakened by a knocking sound at the door.
Bai Qingqing quickly woke up, dried her body, and put on her clothes before going out to open the door.
The man was wearing casual grey home clothes after taking a bath, which softened some of his wildness, adding a touch of gentleness to his exceptionally handsome face.
He looked at her with his dark eyes, slightly raising an eyebrow, and said, “Just finished bathing?”
Bai Qingqing, wearing slippers, curled her toes slightly and lowered her eyelashes, her tone indifferent but carrying a hint of displeasure. Her raised nose and a bit of coquettishness made her look extremely cute in his eyes.
Fu Chen leaned against the half-open door, not giving her a chance to close it and refuse to talk. He knew the girl’s personality very well. She was still upset about his fake death.
“Can’t your brother come to you when nothing’s wrong?” he said with a low and slightly magnetic voice.
Bai Qingqing almost exploded. How dare he call himself her brother? He pretended to be dead, deceiving his little sister. He still hadn’t compensated her for the lost golden beans.
“I’m tired,” she said, trying to close the door.
She pushed it, but the door didn’t move. Obviously, the man wouldn’t let her close it.
Bai Qingqing looked up at him, glaring, and pushed harder.
His long and powerful arm propped against the door, not budging at all. He raised an eyebrow and stared at her, watching her face turn red from anger.
Bai Qingqing really wanted to pounce on him and give him a bite. He was such an infuriating man.
Before she could make a move, the man’s tall body forcefully squeezed into the room, closing the door behind him. Suddenly, she felt like a lamb entering a tiger’s den.
“What are you doing?” Bai Qingqing took a step back, furrowing her eyebrows. “This is my room.”
Fu Chen reached out and grabbed her slender arm, pulling her into his embrace, tightly imprisoning her.
Bai Qingqing immediately pushed him. “Let go.”
“Don’t move, let me hold you for a while,” Fu Chen tightened his grip, as if he wanted to immerse her soft body into his blood.
Hearing the man’s slightly pleading tone, full of affection and nostalgia, as if he had regained the most precious treasure, she eventually stiffened and stopped moving.
Fu Chen slightly lowered his body, resting his chin on her shoulder. His warm breath sprayed on her neck, causing a tingling sensation. He sighed, “Qingqing.”
After a year of separation and encountering the zombie tide again, they didn’t have much time to talk before plunging into battle.
In the dimly lit room, the only sound was their breathing.
After a moment, Bai Qingqing placed her hand against his strong chest and said, “That’s enough.”
Fu Chen loosened his grip slightly but didn’t let go. His knobby fingers pinched her chin, lifting her fair and delicate face, narrowing his eyes as he asked, “If I hadn’t faked my death, how long would you have continued to hide?”
A hint of guilt flashed in Bai Qingqing’s eyes. Her gaze shifted, preparing to lie.
Fu Chen’s voice became low, “Qingqing, I lied to you, but you also lied to me. Can we call it even?”
Bai Qingqing pursed her lips. Yes, they could call it even.
“If you like being a little sister, that’s fine too,” Fu Chen’s pitch-black eyes were deep as he lowered his head, getting closer to her face. Suddenly, he bit her lips. “As long as you like it, you can call me whatever you want in private.”
A slight twinge of pain mixed with a tingling sensation came from her lips. Bai Qingqing whimpered twice, her watery eyes staring at him.
