TVFCATEOD Chapter 38

Cheng Rui could sense her uneasiness, perhaps due to being in a new environment without familiar people around her. Her entire aura radiated fear.

This made him feel somewhat frustrated. How could she feel scared and uneasy by his side? Was it because her brother wasn’t with her or because she was afraid he would impulsively possess her?

He was naturally a silent and reserved person, not one to offer comforting words. The two of them stood face to face in silence.

After holding the cup for a while, Bai Qingqing said, with lowered eyes, “I’m going back to my room.”

Before she could move, her arm was grabbed by a large hand, emanating a scorching warmth.

Bai Qingqing tensed for a moment, quickly masking it, but during that moment, Cheng Rui sensed her resistance.

“Do you have anything else to say?” Her voice trembled.

Cheng Rui’s dark gaze locked onto her. A sense of frustration built up in his heart as he said in a deep voice, “I discussed it with my brother. We’ve sent people to find Fu and the others. We should receive news in the next few days.”

So, she didn’t need to worry about Fu Chen and the others’ safety. They were all powerful high-level ability users, each one a formidable individual in the post-apocalyptic world. They wouldn’t encounter any problems.

It was only a matter of time before the team arrived at the Yaoyang Base. They would soon come to find her.

Bai Qingqing raised her delicate and fair face, her brows curved, and said, “Thank you, Cheng Rui.” She felt a bit embarrassed. “I’m just a little worried about my brother and the others.”

Everyone in the team was part of her main and side quests. Not a single one of them could be missing.

If the Yaoyang Base dispatched ability users to search for them, they would quickly find the missing Thunder Team, who had been gone for several days, and bring them back to the base.

Cheng Rui could sense her genuine joy, but he still felt a bit stifled.

He didn’t release the girl. Her tender arm was slim and soft. With one hand, he could hold it easily, as if applying a little force would break it.

The girl resembled a porcelain doll, delicate and in need of careful nurturing.

“Qingqing,” he spoke in a deep voice.

“Yes?” Bai Qingqing looked at him, puzzled.

Cheng Rui held her arm and pulled her closer. The two of them bathed in the serene moonlight, his tall and sturdy figure completely enveloping her in his shadow.

“What do you think about what I said that day?” he asked.

He had a keen intuition that her previous words were just appeasing him. Perhaps she had never considered being with him, which was why she carried a trace of wariness.

She had said she would make a decision once Fu Chen returned, but was she just buying time, waiting for the team to arrive at the Yaoyang Base and then throw herself into her fake brother’s arms, leaving with him?

The distance between each base was quite far, even with the fastest speed, it would take several days. If they encountered various troubles, it could take at least half a month.

If she left, he would have a hard time seeing her again in the future.

Bai Qingqing didn’t expect Cheng Rui to confront her at this moment. Her gaze showed a hint of astonishment as she looked at him, composed in expression, but her mood was complex.

She thought Cheng Rui was a loyal knight who would never force his protected one.

Perhaps her acting skills were lacking, and Cheng Rui had sensed something, eagerly wanting an answer.

Cheng Rui hadn’t completely won her over yet, and Bai Qingqing was in a dilemma. She didn’t want to reject him directly. If he completely gave up after being rejected and found solace in another woman, it would mean her efforts would be in vain.

Cheng Rui was a man overflowing with hormones, giving women a sense of security. Whether it was in the Dock City or when faced with zombie tides, he risked his life to protect her. It did move her, to some extent.

However, she hadn’t fallen in love with him. For now, she couldn’t love anyone.

If she fell into the trap of love, she wouldn’t be able to focus on her mission, and she would die.

Cheng Rui’s feelings for her had only just sparked; they hadn’t reached the level of deep love. She needed to put in more effort.

“Cheng Rui…” Bai Qingqing began.

Cheng Rui suddenly interrupted, “Don’t say it.”

He didn’t want to hear her rejection, not at all. He wanted to respect her, but the possessiveness of a man was at work, tempting him not to worry too much.

Bai Qingqing’s gaze flickered as she held his hand and said, “Do you really not want to hear me speak?”

Since Cheng Rui had made their relationship clear, she would give him a deeper impression.

The girl’s voice was soft and gentle, carrying a small request that was irresistible.

Cheng Rui had a tall and sturdy figure, which seemed too towering for her. It was a bit difficult for her to look up at him while speaking. She remembered his submissive posture in front of her, kneeling down, and it made her feel itchy.

“You should kneel down.”

Cheng Rui’s deep gaze followed her command, obediently half-kneeling in front of her like a tamed wolf.

Bai Qingqing looked down at him, her tone tinged with a hint of grievance. “You said you wanted to be with me, but do you really understand what kind of person I am?”

Cheng Rui was about to speak, but she reached out her slender fingers and covered his lips. “Listen to me first.”

“I have a bad temper, I’m spoiled and willful, and I don’t like doing things.” Bai Qingqing bit her lip and continued, “Once you understand me, you won’t like me anymore.”

She lowered her eyelashes, hiding the obscure light in her eyes, and said softly, “I am not a good person.”

At this moment, Cheng Rui was slowly falling into a trap without realizing it, unaware that she was telling the truth.

She was truly bad, making men hate and love her, wanting to hold her tightly in his arms, bite through her lying mouth, and cover her bewitching eyes.

Bai Qingqing’s clear voice sounded somewhat sad. “Once you discover my true personality, you won’t like me anymore. If you get tired of me, you will abandon me.”

Two drops of crocodile tears welled up in her eyes. “Cheng Rui, I’m afraid of being abandoned. I want the person I love to accept everything about me.”

“Regardless of whether I’m good or bad, he will love me and tolerate everything about me, allowing me to be willful.”

Cheng Rui recalled her anxious appearance in the team, feeling an even greater heartache. If time could be reversed, he would definitely go back and hold her in his arms, telling her not to make mistakes with her poor acting skills.

She wouldn’t be abandoned, and he would love her dearly.

Cheng Rui’s expression was shrouded in shadows, making it impossible to see the tender expression in his eyes clearly. His voice was slightly hoarse as he said, “Qingqing.”

Bai Qingqing felt his concern and a surge of joyful emotions in her heart.

Why couldn’t men forget the moonlight, and why would they still appear to help the moonlight when she needed them, even if they had a partner?

Because he cared for her, he felt needed by her.

Love could disappear, but once someone was filled with tenderness for someone, it was all over.

Cheng Rui wouldn’t love, but Bai Qingqing would teach him to love. Her words carried a poison that penetrated deep into his bone marrow, leaving no cure.

“Loving someone can give her a sense of security, feeling that giving her everything in the world is not enough. Cheng Rui, do you really love me?”

Cheng Rui lifted his gaze to the girl in front of him, her clear eyes staring directly at him, as if demanding an answer from his heart.

He admitted that he only liked her and was infatuated, his love had not reached the level she desired.

Cheng Rui didn’t say anything. He reached out, grabbed her arm, and pulled her into his embrace, suddenly leaning in to kiss her.

Bai Qingqing was caught off guard as she leaned against his chest, her hands resting on his strong chest, looking a bit bewildered.

Cheng Rui’s kiss fell on her forehead, his expression tinged with a hint of heartache and devotion, as if praying to a goddess.

“I will make you satisfied, Qingqing.”

Bai Qingqing felt his strong and lively heartbeat against her chest, as if they had formed a binding contract.

Cheng Rui only held her for a while before letting her go and returning to her room.

The next day, Bai Qingqing didn’t see Cheng Rui. She learned from the villa’s housekeeper that he had followed Cheng Yan to a high-level location in the base, presumably preparing for employment.

Bai Qingqing played some games on her phone and entered her personal space.

Her current spatial ability was at the third level, and her plant manipulation ability was at the second level. In the post-apocalyptic world, her abilities were neither too high nor too low, not enough for her to venture alone.

At the fifth level of her spatial ability, she could physically enter the space as well. Although time was limited, she could use it to escape during attacks or forcefully pull zombies and humans into the spatial domain.

Her plant manipulation ability needed to be upgraded as soon as possible. Only when it reached the fourth level or higher could she control beings of the same level. When she reached the highest level, she might even be able to control groups of plants and animals.

She had always loved taking care of flowers, plants, cats, and dogs. Upgrading her ability would allow her to raise a group of offspring, which would be incredibly satisfying.

She didn’t want to stay locked in her room at the Yaoyang base every day, waiting for a man to come back and pamper her. She didn’t want to become that kind of woman.

Upgrading abilities before the third level only required consuming a few high-level crystal nuclei. However, reaching the fourth level required searching for multiple high-level crystal nuclei, and by the fifth level, the zombies had already gained intelligence, making them formidable opponents.

At this moment, she missed her cheap brother Fu Chen a little. Despite his unpredictable temperament, he doted on his younger sister.

Bai Qingqing stood in her personal space, glanced at the warehouse filled with supplies, and felt a sense of security. Although these supplies were for the team’s common use, they were in her space, so she had priority usage rights.

She had previously cultivated a small strawberry field, but she hadn’t had the chance to fully harvest it. Some strawberries had ripened and fallen to the ground. She didn’t let the delicious purple grass go to waste and ate it all, further upgrading her abilities.

The purple grass sensed her presence in the space and happily ran over to her, wagging its tail. “Master~”

Bai Qingqing crouched down and looked at the little purple grass. It used to be a first-level mutated plant, but now it had reached the second level and could communicate in simple words.

“Do you miss me?” she asked, gently patting the small purple grass.

“Yiyiyi, I miss you~” the small purple grass replied in a cute and milky voice.

Bai Qingqing continued to pet it and said, “Good boy.”

She looked at the plot of land she had opened up after upgrading her space and pondered what she should plant there.

Before she could decide, a voice came from outside the space.

“Miss Bai, wake up.” “You’re sleeping during the day?” a domineering female voice sounded, “You don’t understand any rules at all.”
