“Miss Bai,” Xiao Yang’s voice came through, “We can eat hot pot now.”
Bai Qingqing tightened the bottle cap, stood up from the car roof, and gracefully landed. She noticed Xiao Yang’s raised eyebrow, and he touched his nose, relieved that he didn’t reach out to help her. This Miss Bai appeared like a lazy cat on the outside but was actually a formidable tiger.
He swiftly moved a chair and served her, saying, “Miss Bai, please have a seat.”
Bai Qingqing sat down without hesitation, and the six of them gathered around the table to eat hot pot. The hot pot in the middle of the table boiled with steaming hot water, emitting a fragrant meaty aroma that made everyone salivate.
The Jingzhou Base was close to the glacier, and under Liang Zhiyu’s leadership, life in the base was relatively good. They could have a meaty meal at least once a week.
Usually, they ate dry and coarse food, without the various vegetables and fresh meat used for hot pot.
Captain Zhao Lei couldn’t help but curse, “Damn it, I’ve forgotten what hot pot tastes like these past two years. Miss Bai, we’re enjoying this thanks to you.”
Xiao Yang, with an oily mouth, held a bowl and chuckled, “Miss Bai, if you don’t mind, I’ll follow you from now on.”
Bai Qingqing smiled and glanced at him, saying, “I wouldn’t dare to steal you from your leader.”
Xiao Yang muttered in his heart, “Sooner or later, you’ll be Leader Liang’s person, and whether I follow you or him, it’s all the same.”
Everyone enjoyed the hot pot, satisfied with their meal. After finishing, they had fruits and sat lazily on their chairs, holding cups of tea.
Suddenly…
Zhao Lei abruptly put down his cup, crouched down, and listened intently. A drum-like sound echoed, as if thousands of troops were galloping, leaving nothing alive in their wake.
Everyone looked nervous, and Xiao Yang asked, “Captain, what’s wrong?”
Zhao Lei quickly stood up and looked around. The surroundings were all wilderness, with nowhere to hide. His face turned grim, never imagining they would encounter a zombie tide in such a place.
“Captain, what’s happening?”
“Something’s not right. Listen, there’s something approaching.”
Bai Qingqing looked in a certain direction and saw a dense mass, like a dark cloud, a horde of creatures resembling an ant swarm, approaching. It was a zombie tide.
The zombie tide erupted, and the previously slow-moving zombies seemed to double their speed, moving swiftly. They were getting dangerously close, and everyone’s faces turned pale.
Bai Qingqing waved her hand, and the car and chairs were all pulled into her spatial realm.
“Roar!” The horde of zombies saw the humans and rushed towards them with savage faces, opening their jaws wide to bite.
The next moment, the humans who were just in front of them suddenly disappeared, and the zombies paused momentarily before, once again under the control of the Zombie King’s roar, heading towards the towering walls of the Jingzhou Base in the distance.
Inside the spatial realm, everyone sat on the grass, gasping for breath, looking bewildered at their surroundings.
Bai Qingqing glanced at them and said, “When I pull you into the space, there’s a time limit. You can stay inside for a maximum of twelve hours.”
Zhao Lei looked at his surviving comrades and gratefully said, “Thank you, Miss Bai.”
“No need to thank me.” Bai Qingqing’s face turned serious. Even inside the space, she could still sense the terrifying aura outside.
The zombie tide was heading towards the Jingzhou Base. Within a few hours, the zombies would arrive, and the base would face the largest disaster in history.
Bai Qingqing looked up at them and said, “After the zombies are gone tomorrow, I will let you out, and you can drive back to the Snowfield Base.”
“What about you?” Xiao Yang blurted out without thinking, “Miss Bai, the Jingzhou Base probably won’t be able to withstand the zombie tide. Come with us.”
Bai Qingqing shook her head and said, “I’m not leaving.”
She intended to help the Jingzhou Base. With her current strength, she should be able to repel a small-scale zombie tide without the interference of a Zombie King.
Xiao Yang wanted to say something, but Zhao Lei held him back, signalling him not to say anything more.
…
“We launched a zombie tide against the Jingzhou Base. Lily is controlling it. I’ll also go there tomorrow. It shouldn’t take a whole day to take over the Jingzhou Base.” A man’s voice came from the room.
Bai, Tiantian. holding the tray, almost let out a scream. She quickly covered her mouth with her hand, her whole body trembling.
A zombie tide? Jingzhou Base? These words were too terrifying.
Bai Qingqing knew what the outbreak of a zombie tide would bring to humanity. Shen Mingxuan had truly gone mad. Was he planning to destroy all of humanity?
She couldn’t make out the conversation inside the room anymore as tears blurred her vision. In the past six months, the zombies had continuously launched sieges, destroying one large survivor base after another.
Shen Mingxuan’s subordinates captured many humans and kept them like livestock.
She had secretly released a human esper once, but those people were powerless against the Zombie King and were brutally killed.
That horrifying scene was unforgettable, confirming that mutants were indeed different, and zombies were monsters.
Biting her lip tightly, Bai Qingqing drew blood, and her whole body turned cold. In her heart, she had once hoped that Shen Mingxuan still possessed a shred of humanity, a trace of kindness, and wouldn’t harm humans.
But now she understood that he was a monster. The man who turned into a zombie had lost his humanity and had become a cruel devil from hell.
The door suddenly opened, and the Zombie King, Zhou Hang, walked out. He coldly glanced at Bai Qingqing, who was holding the tray. If it weren’t for the Zombie Emperor’s order to keep her alive, she would have become the zombies’ food long ago, just like the human esper she released last time.
“Come in,” came the icy voice from inside.
Bai Qingqing quickly walked in with the tray and stood in front of a tall figure dressed in black. His aura was chilling, and his captivating peach blossom eyes revealed a ruthless and heartless nature.
The man extended his bony hand and took the cup, downing the crimson blood in one gulp. His sexy Adam’s apple bobbed, and he wiped away a trace of blood from the corner of his mouth with his hand, his actions carrying an indescribable malevolence.
Bai Qingqing held the tray and didn’t leave, staring at the man’s delicate and handsome face. Unable to hold back, she asked, “Mingxuan, why are you launching a zombie tide?”
Her eyes were red, and she spoke with a questioning tone, “Are you trying to destroy all of humanity?”
Shen Mingxuan’s silver-grey pupils stared at the woman in front of him.
Bai Qingqing trembled all over, choked up, and said, “Why are you doing this? Aren’t you a monster without reason? Can’t we coexist harmoniously, just like humans?”
“As long as humans provide you with blood, isn’t that enough?”
Shen Mingxuan sneered, tilting his head slightly as he looked at the woman in front of him.
Even after two years in the apocalypse, Bai Qingqing hadn’t changed at all. If it weren’t for the moral bottom line of the Thunder Squad members, the two sisters from the Bai family would have long been treated like other women in different teams, becoming objects of desire.
How did he not see through her true nature before? She wasn’t simply kind-hearted but rather foolish.
Can humans and zombies coexist harmoniously?
His voice turned cold, “Do you really think that all high-level zombies are like me, satisfied with just a little blood?”
From the moment humans turned into zombies, they became monsters. He also had a strong craving for human flesh and blood at first, but Qingqing had restrained him, preventing him from tearing into humans like a wild beast.
Later on, when he regained his sanity and memories,
he wasn’t tempted by human flesh and blood anymore.
Physically, he still desired to consume humans, but mentally, he couldn’t bear it, so he kept Bai Qingqing as a blood bank.
He had another secret purpose—Bai Qingqing was Qingqing’s sister, and ultimately, she was Qingqing’s last remaining blood relative. This could be considered a bargaining chip for their future meeting.
Shen Mingxuan abruptly grabbed Bai Qingqing’s neck. His silver-grey pupils turned cold and eerie, as he coldly said, “Don’t think too highly of yourself and don’t meddle in my affairs. Letting you live is my greatest tolerance towards you.”
*Cough, cough, cough.* Bai Qingqing’s face turned red and purplish-blue, and she struggled to breathe.
Shen Mingxuan threw her aside and stared at her coldly, saying, “It’s better for you not to interfere. If you act like last time again, I won’t spare you.”
With that, he walked out of the room, leaving behind a weeping Bai Qingqing, who collapsed on the ground, coughing.
Zhou Hang, who had been waiting outside, looked at the man who came out and asked, “The leader wants to personally go to the Jingzhou Base?”
A black cat jumped from above and rubbed affectionately against Shen Mingxuan’s feet. The man’s handsome face was filled with a cold intent, his gaze sinister, and his thin lips slightly curled up. “Of course.”
He wants to witness the breach of the Jingzhou Base with his own eyes, dig out Fu Chen’s remains to confirm if he is really dead or not.
…
Inside the Jingzhou Base, the lights were on, and human soldiers on the towering walls held guns and weapons, their eyes fixed on the distance.
In the pitch-black night, the temperature dropped by more than ten degrees, freezing cold. The ordinary human soldiers wore padded combat suits, their hands outside turning red from the cold. They stood ready, not daring to relax in the slightest.
A rumbling sound came from afar, and the human and supernatural beings in the base knew it was a zombie tide.
The Jingzhou Base had experienced zombie tides before, and previous small-scale ones were wiped out by weapons and supernatural beings within half a day. They hoped that this time they could also easily get through it.
Xiao Yang stood on top of the wall, using night vision binoculars to look into the distance. The horrifying and rotten faces of the countless zombies rapidly approaching the base were clearly visible.
In the blink of an eye, the zombies reached the first line of defence. The powerful electric fence was activated, and the zombies were electrocuted, emitting a burnt smell. However, there were too many zombies, and the electric fence soon couldn’t stop their surge. It was quickly breached.
Xiao Yang made a gesture with his hand, and the officers immediately ordered, “Attack!”
The sound of gunfire rang out, followed by the explosions of bombs and the roaring of oil fires. It was a sea of fire, with smoke and gunpowder filling the air.
There were too many zombies besieging the city, and no matter how strong the attack was, it couldn’t stop the zombies from climbing and lunging. Soon, zombies were crawling up from under the corners of the wall like falling dominoes.
Supernatural beings began to assist in attacking the zombies, causing piles of zombies to fall down.
Yang Li, the zombie king, stood on top of a tall building in the distance, staring at the Jingzhou Base. She sneered and once again controlled the gathering of zombies, launching a second wave of attacks.
The Jingzhou Base truly lived up to its reputation as the most difficult place to capture. The zombie tide attacked wave after wave, like ocean waves crashing. Even the walls couldn’t be climbed. They were deadlocked like this for several hours.
The sky revealed a pale glow, and dawn was approaching. The movements of the zombies became slightly slower, but they still continued to attack the base without stopping.
The people who had fought throughout the night at the Jingzhou Base showed signs of exhaustion on their faces. They looked at the dwindling number of zombies, but before they could relax, they heard the voice of their leader.
“The second wave of zombies is coming. Prepare for the attack!”
The soldiers shivered, hastily shouting, “Load ammunition!”
The screams of zombies, the sound of gunfire, explosions, and the cries of humans all mixed together.
“Ah—Not good! Zombies are coming up here!”
Zombies crawled up the walls densely, like ants. A breach appeared in one area, and people frantically dealt with the zombies, filled with fear and despair.
A dazzling light flashed.
The climbing zombies on the wall were struck by a white light, instantly turning into powder. The breach was once again guarded fiercely by human soldiers.
What happened?
People felt extremely strange after being saved. What kind of supernatural ability was this that could instantly destroy a group of zombies?
“Roar, roar, roar!” Strange cries came from all directions.
A group of vibrant and mutated plants appeared in the human field of vision, along with various giant mutated animals rushing towards the Jingzhou Base at high speed.
“Mutated plants and animals!” Humans exclaimed in shock.
The zombie siege hadn’t been resolved yet, and now there were countless mutated plants and animals surrounding the city. Could it be that fate wanted to destroy the Jingzhou Base? Everyone felt a deep sense of despair.
Xiao Yang’s face turned grim and ugly as he stared at the approaching mutated animals. He clenched his teeth and shouted, “What are you waiting for? Attack!”
The humans were about to launch an attack when they witnessed the mutated plants and animals opening their bloodthirsty mouths, devouring zombies one by one.
Huh?
Huh huh???
What’s going on! The humans were dumbfounded! Mutated plants eating zombies?
The battlefield outside the walls was particularly spectacular. Potatoes rolled over zombies, mushrooms exploded zombies, chili peppers spewed fire, and mutated animals tore zombies in half. It was like being in a post-apocalyptic movie.
There were many zombies climbing up the walls from various places, including many second and third-stage advanced zombies. Their attacks were particularly fierce. Supernatural beings fought and resisted them on the walls. Just when it seemed that humans couldn’t withstand the zombies and the city was about to be breached, several flashes of white light struck, turning the zombies into powder.
Xiao Yang killed a third-stage zombie, leaped onto the wall, and looked into the distance.
Mutated plants howled while surrounding a gigantic mutated vine plant, and atop the strange and beautiful vine creature stood a person.
The girl had long black hair flowing behind her, and her ethereal long dress fluttered in the wind, making her look as beautiful as a fairy. With a casual wave of her hand, her light-based supernatural ability wiped out a group of zombies.
Soon, the second wave of zombies was repelled, and the advanced animals and plants that repelled the zombie tide emitted howling sounds, obediently staying by the side of the purple vine.
Xiao Yang watched as the mutated plants approached closer and closer, his eyes turning bloodshot. It was Qingqing, she didn’t die, she had returned. His hands trembled, and his throat couldn’t produce a sound.
Everyone turned to look at their leader and found him staring at the girl as if he were dumbstruck.
“The Zombie King can still launch a zombie tide,” the beautiful and charming girl sat in a flower vine chair, smiling sweetly. “I can save the city, but you have to pay.”
People were once again bewildered. Where did this little girl come from, extorting them in a critical battle for humanity’s survival, acting so carefree?
The leader’s eyes remained red as he stared at her. The supernatural beings from the Jingzhou Base approached and whispered, “Leader, agree to her first.”
Regardless of who this big shot was, they had to resist the zombie tide first before anything else.
Xiao Yang stared intently at the girl on the vine chair, his voice trembling. “Qingqing, you’ve finally appeared.”
“…”
People heard the familiar name and looked at Bai Qingqing in shock. She was actually the pitiful little girl that the big shots had gone crazy looking for. Clearly, she was incredibly powerful, casually annihilating a group of zombies. Just as Bai Qingqing was about to speak, a tall figure appeared on the wall, his dark eyes fixed on her, and he said in a low voice, “Qingqing, come to your big brother.”
