MDMSC Chapter 51

 “Very Cute”

Ji Fei repeated herself.

“We only want one vehicle. We’ll take it and leave.”

The group of men holding weapons looked at the muzzle of Ji Fei’s gun and backed up a little more. The man at the front ordered a very young-looking guy at the back, “You go. Get them the key to truck number six.”

The young man nodded, put down the large iron pliers in his hand, and quickly ran into the building.

Ji Fei did not put away her gun. The muzzle was still pointed at the crowd.

The man who had looked so fierce at first seemed especially afraid of guns. Clutching his fire axe tightly, he said, “You… put the gun down first. We’ll give you the truck.”

Ji Fei raised her brows. “You put your weapons down first.”

This was originally a confrontation between two sides. Ji Fei was only taking precautions. After all, there were so many of them. If they really swarmed forward, she did not have many bullets left.

But the group of men, who had behaved so forcefully earlier, actually put their weapons down after hearing Ji Fei’s words. It was just that every one of them still looked wary. More than a dozen pairs of eyes stared gloomily at them, revealing a hint of panic beneath their bluff.

Ji Fei raised her brows and looked back at the people inside the car. Everyone had clearly also noticed what was going on.

These people were probably not quite the same as they had appeared.

Very soon, the young man came running back with a set of truck keys. He tossed the keys through the air into Ji Fei’s hand.

Ji Fei asked, “Where is truck number six?”

The leader’s expression turned very ugly, as if he were struggling. Several times, he seemed about to say something, only to be nudged by the people behind him. In the end, he pressed his lips tightly together and only raised his hand to point in a direction.

Most of the people in the car were sharp-minded. Of course they could tell that this group’s attitude was not right.

The direction they pointed to for truck number six led to a large warehouse. When Ji Fei drove over, the headlights shone on warehouse number six. The warehouse was locked.

Ji Fei lowered her head and looked. There were two keys on the keyring in her hand. One was the truck key. The other should be the warehouse key.

But they did not rush to take the truck. Instead, they sat in the car and discussed how to get it.

“There must be zombies in the warehouse. Otherwise, those people wouldn’t have had that expression,” Jun Yueyue said. “We need to confirm how many zombies there are first, then decide whether to kill them all or find a way to lure them out.”

Fang Anyan said, “That’s easy. The garage door is locked. As long as we knock on it, the zombies inside will be attracted by the sound. Whether they move around or howl, it won’t be hard to tell.”

Everyone nodded.

In the end, they briefly made two plans. Among them, excluding Fang Anyu, who was still unconscious, and Jun Yu, who had difficulty moving, everyone else could kill zombies. If there were not many, they would deal with all of them.

If there were too many, they would open the garage door and have two people hide behind it. The remaining people would drive the jeep, honking the horn to attract the zombies out. Then the people hiding behind the door would go in and take the truck. Once they got the truck, the large truck and the smaller jeep would drive out directly, and that would count as success.

After the plan was set, Fang Anyan and Ji Fei got out first.

Li Li was originally supposed to drive, but Jun Yueyue climbed into the driver’s seat.

“You drive too steadily. Right now, driving can’t be steady. I’ll do it.”

Li Li had once gotten into a car accident while street racing. After that, although he overcame his psychological block, his driving really did become more and more stable. He was wild, but he cherished his life very much and did not dare drive fast again.

Jun Yueyue was different. What she was best at was treating a car like an aeroplane in all sorts of dangerous road conditions. In this car, apart from Ji Fei, she was the most suitable.

“Carry your precious Yu’er to the back and look after my precious one,” Jun Yueyue said without turning back.

After that, she turned the jeep around on the spot, its front facing the direction of the gate.

“You won’t have it easy either,” Jun Yueyue said. “In a bit, you’ll be responsible for fighting zombies through the window. Hold your weapon properly.”

Li Li wrapped his arm with clothing and gripped the dagger tightly.

Jun Yueyue flashed the car lights, signalling to Ji Fei and Fang Anyan that they were ready.

Fang Anyan and Ji Fei pressed their ears to the door and knocked on the garage. Listening to the sounds inside, they soon heard waves of zombie howls and footsteps. The number exceeded what they could fight head-on.

Fang Anyan made a two sign toward the car, indicating that they should use the second plan.

Jun Yueyue honked once to show she understood.

Only then did Ji Fei unlock the warehouse door. Just as she was about to pull out the final bolt, she handed the key to Fang Anyan.

“When the zombies come out later, they might not all run cleanly. You drive. I’ll cover you.”

But Fang Anyan did not take it.

Instead, under the red glow of the jeep’s rear lights, he wrapped an arm around Ji Fei’s neck and kissed her heavily on the lips.

“No. I’ll cover you.”

Fang Anyan waved the spike in his hand. “Trust me.”

Ji Fei smiled and tucked the key into her own pocket. As she opened the warehouse door bolt, she said, “You’re the first man who has ever said he’d protect me. Don’t disappoint me.”

The instant the door opened, Fang Anyan and Ji Fei each grabbed one side of the iron door and folded it backward, using the metal door to hide their bodies.

At the same time, Jun Yueyue pressed down on the car horn. The sharp honk quickly attracted the zombies, making them run toward the car.

But the car did not immediately drive away. Only when zombies began running out one after another did Jun Yueyue keep honking while stepping on the accelerator.

The car crawled toward the gate at an extremely slow speed. Zombies had already pounced against both sides of the vehicle.

Jun Yueyue released the horn and turned to Li Li.

“Ready? The one on the right—”

The moment Li Li nodded, Jun Yueyue suddenly lowered the right-side window. The dagger stabbed out through the window, straight into the zombie’s head.

Pull the knife out. Retreat. Window up.

The movement was seamless, smooth as flowing water.

Jun Yueyue praised him generously. “Good job. Now the left rear!”

Jun Yueyue drove slowly toward the gate. More than a dozen zombies were throwing themselves against the side of the car, but as the windows repeatedly lowered and rose, by the time they reached the main gate, five zombies were already lying behind the car.

The remaining zombies grew even more frantic.

Jun Yueyue lowered her own window and stabbed one to death too. Black blood splashed across half her face, but she did not even wipe it. Her eyes stayed fixed on the rear-view and side mirrors. When she slowed down and another zombie pounced near the car, she said again, “Get ready. Right rear!”

The window lowered. Li Li’s knife stabbed accurately and ruthlessly into the zombie’s eye, straight through the skull.

But just as he was about to pull his hand back, his wrist was suddenly grabbed by a zombie that had been dragged down by the car.

After mutation, the zombie had the full weight of an adult body. Its entire body hung onto Li Li’s one arm. He cried out in pain, unable to keep hold of the knife, and unable to pull his hand back.

His body was twisted, making it difficult to kick backward. And at that unlucky moment, another zombie pounced from the right rear.

Seeing that it was coming without the slightest politeness, about to step on its dragged companion and bite Li Li, Jun Yueyue abruptly accelerated the car. But she still could not shake it off in time.

Just as Li Li was about to suffer disaster, Jun Yu had somehow removed her prosthetic leg. She raised it and smashed it fiercely against the zombie’s head, again and again. After knocking that zombie away, she then started hammering indiscriminately at the zombie clinging stubbornly to Li Li.

The zombie let go. Li Li pulled his hand back.

Jun Yueyue quickly raised the window and accelerated, throwing the last few zombies behind the car.

Inside the car, Li Li looked at Jun Yu in shock. Jun Yu, meanwhile, had no time to look at him at all. She was looking heartbrokenly at the bloodstains on her prosthetic leg and hurriedly wiped them off with tissues, thinking to herself that fortunately, this thing had been made quite sturdy…

Jun Yueyue did not keep driving away. Instead, she sharply turned the car around in an exaggerated drift. The screeching sound of tyres scraping against the ground rang through the night. If it had been daytime, one would definitely have seen black tyre marks printed across the road.

Jun Yueyue turned the car around, sped up, and charged straight toward the zombies that had been dragged by the car just now.

She drove back and forth, crushing them repeatedly and circling on the main road until she had finally crushed the remaining few into pieces. Only then did she drive back toward the freight station to support their companions.

Li Li had to admit that he really could not drive like that. Even back when he used to race cars, he had never been this insane.

The car had been driven like a storm. Although it very coolly crushed the zombies to death, the three people inside had all been flung out of position.

Jun Yu was fine. She wisely threw her prosthetic leg onto the floor and grabbed the handle in the back seat.

Li Li was not so lucky. Sitting in the empty middle row, he was tossed half to death. Fang Anyu was not spared either. He rolled off the seat. Perhaps he had hit himself too badly, because after the car drove steadily again, he clutched his head and dazedly climbed up.

“You’re awake!” Jun Yueyue turned the car into the freight station and looked excitedly at Fang Anyu through the rear-view mirror. “How do you feel?”

When they drove into the freight station, Ji Fei and Fang Anyan had also successfully obtained truck number six.

They had also faced danger. The zombies Jun Yueyue had lured away were only part of them. There were still several in the rear compartment. Not only that, truck number six was loaded with an entire cargo bed of oranges, all still fresh.

Ji Fei and Fang Anyan had been fighting hard. Five or six zombies could be dealt with quickly if she fired, but Ji Fei did not have many bullets left. If she fired, she might also attract back the zombies Jun Yueyue had already lured away.

Just as the two of them were finding it difficult to handle the situation, the group of people who had been holding weapons earlier rushed in. They swarmed forward and chopped those zombies until they were no longer recognisable, which could be counted as saving the two of them.

“You deliberately let us come take truck number six so we would help you deal with the zombies?!”

Fang Anyan’s tone was not good.

The leader’s face was full of conflict. In the end, he said, “Only truck number six has food. Besides, there are zombies in the other garages too. They’re all loading workers. We also…”

The group looked at the boxes of oranges loaded on the truck. The leader could not help saying again, “Can you leave us some? During this shipment, this was the only truck carrying something edible. We don’t have stored food, and we don’t dare go anywhere else.”

Heaven knew how they had escaped from their own cargo compartment when the mutation happened, and then, within one day, hacked to death all the mutated co-workers scattered outside and dragged them into one of the warehouses.

They truly had been terrified to death. They did not dare go anywhere.

Earlier, another group of people had come, saying they only wanted one vehicle, but they had also been bitten to death by zombies. That was why they had acted so ferociously at first and told Jun Yueyue’s group to get lost. They thought there were too many zombies in the garage and did not believe a few people had the ability to get the truck.

Later, after being threatened by Ji Fei’s gun, they had no choice but to make way and tell them about truck number six. But in the end, they could not withstand the condemnation of their conscience, so they risked their lives and came with weapons to help.

Fang Anyan sighed. He looked at the boxes on the truck and nodded.

“Take some.”

After all, oranges could not be stored for long. The few of them would not be able to eat that many either.

When the group heard this, they were all delighted. They glanced at Ji Fei, who had a gun at her waist. Seeing that she had no reaction, they happily went to move things.

At this time, Jun Yueyue also drove in and parked nearby.

She first got out and opened the rear door, then held Fang Anyu’s head and checked the place where he had bumped it.

“Does it hurt badly? It’s my fault. I drove too fast…” Jun Yueyue rubbed the bump on Fang Anyu’s head.

Fang Anyu grabbed her wrist, tilted his head up, and shook it.

“What should we do? You’re still burning.” Jun Yueyue helped him out of the car. Li Li helped Jun Yu down as well.

Fang Anyan got into the truck to check. Everything was normal, and the fuel tank was full.

Jun Yueyue and Fang Anyu got into the truck first and sat down. The others gathered together, watching the crowd move oranges.

Jun Yueyue and the others briefly discussed it. Li Li cleared his throat, took off his wig and revealed his roguish air, then walked over to the group and began showing off.

“You don’t dare go out, so you’ll stay here and eat oranges? How many days can you eat them for? We came all the way here. The entire city has fallen. Other provinces are the same. There’s no rescue at all. Even the military has left on its own. You won’t be able to wait for rescue.”

The people who had been enthusiastically moving oranges all stopped.

Their faces all showed different expressions. Of course, it was not that they knew nothing about the situation outside. They were only holding on to a faint hope and waiting. Otherwise, what else could they do?

Li Li began to incite them. “Why don’t you come with us? Have you contacted your families? We’re preparing to go to Pingchuan. You know that newly opened resort in Pingchuan, right?”

Li Li somehow pulled out a business card.

“That resort is mine. It has a solar power system and a suspension bridge connecting it to the outside. And also…”

Watching Li Li fool that group of people, the remaining three separately got into the truck.

After obtaining the large truck, they had originally planned to save some people along the way if they could. After all, collecting supplies also required manpower. Moreover, when they returned to the resort, clearing zombies and managing the full set of water and electricity systems Li Li had mentioned would all require people.

As for letting Li Li do the persuasion, Jun Yueyue had suggested it. In the previous life, Li Li had been the big boss of that base.

Alright, although in the previous life, he had not taken this kind of second-rate hustler approach. But at a time when order had collapsed, it was difficult for women to talk reason with those men. Ji Fei would only point a gun at them, and forced melons might not be sweet. Fang Anyan was eloquent, but his appearance leaned toward refined gentleness, while the moment he opened his mouth, he could not conceal his tyrannosaurus essence.

Only Li Li, whose appearance had a certain intimidating force and who could speak both human words and ghost words, was most suitable for this kind of thing.

Li Li indeed did not disappoint. There were sixteen people over there. From huffing and puffing as they moved oranges down, they changed to moving the oranges back onto the truck.

After Li Li got back into the truck, Jun Yueyue was the first to ask, “I’m more curious about where your business cards came from. You were running for your life and still remembered to bring business cards?”

Li Li turned his head and glared at Jun Yueyue. “A spoiled eldest miss born with a golden spoon like you understands shit. How would you know the hardship of those of us who climbed up from the bottom?”

Wherever he went, of course he carried business cards with him and shoved them at people whenever he met them.

But this clearly was not the right thing to say, because when he turned his head, he discovered Jun Yu looking at him with her watery eyes.

Li Li grew cowardly far too quickly. If the truck compartment had enough space to kneel, Jun Yueyue felt that he would have knelt while speaking. When Jun Yu turned away and ignored him, he started groaning and saying his body hurt. Jun Yu still did not turn back.

Li Li truly did not know what to do. He looked to everyone for help, only to find them all watching him with smiles, clearly enjoying the show.

“Do you still want to know what their situation is or not? I already asked everything,” Li Li said. “I also promised one of them that we’d go back to pick up his wife and daughter!”

In a team, this sort of thing was most likely to cause disputes, especially at a time like this. He had privately agreed to save someone without discussing it with everyone first.

But among the people sitting in the truck, not one raised an objection.

Fang Anyan even took out the phone map and asked, “Where are his family members? I’ll check whether we need to detour.”

Li Li looked around at everyone. At this moment, his eyes truly felt a little hot.

His companions were a group of people who looked cold on the outside, but had warm hearts. Such people were already hard to come across one at a time. A whole group of them… especially in this apocalypse, seemed particularly precious.

“They’re in South City District. Not too far, and not too busy either. I already asked,” Li Li said seriously. “There are sixteen people in the back. Two of them are drivers. If this big truck is hard to handle, we can ask them to come up.”

Ji Fei chuckled. “I’ve even flown planes before.”

Everyone laughed.

After waiting for a while, Fang Anyan got out and watched everyone move the oranges they had taken down back onto the truck. They were now sitting somewhat uncertainly in the rear compartment.

Fang Anyan looked refined and gentle, suppressing the tyrannosaurus essence inside him. His tone was also warm and soft.

“If you have anything you need to bring, hurry and get it. We’re leaving soon.”

Fang Anyan also moved the remaining food from the smaller car into the truck compartment. When the people who had not gone down to get things saw it, their throats moved slightly. They looked at Fang Anyan with pleading eyes.

“Can we eat this?”

“It’s for you. Eat.”

Fang Anyan said, “In the future, if you follow us, all collected supplies will be distributed equally. Don’t worry. Although our boss looks a bit roguish, he’s a particularly good person. Come, tell me again. For those who want to save family members, how long ago was the last call?”

Li Li used temptation, and Fang Anyan played the emotional card and gave reassurance.

After both cards were played, all sixteen people in the truck willingly followed them. They even voluntarily found large oil barrels and moved all the stored diesel onto the truck. In the end, they worked together to open another warehouse. After killing the zombies, they drove out a large transport truck loaded with four small cars.

In the normal world, these cars could not be scratched even slightly during transport. Here, the driver directly tipped them sideways and unloaded them. Most people sat in the cars at the back.

By the time everything was ready, it was already past ten at night.

Only one day had passed since the apocalypse arrived.

That night, they drove two large trucks into the city.

They did not rush to find supplies. Instead, they went to save people first.

South City District happened to be the location of the property development that the Fang family had invested heavily in and that had almost dragged the family down. Fang Anyan was fairly familiar with this area. Without much effort, they found the building the man had mentioned.

They did not choose to get out and enter. Instead, they drove the large truck straight into the residential compound and stopped directly below Building One.

The loading worker stood in the rear compartment and shouted toward his fifth-floor window for his wife. Sure enough, his wife was fine and stood on the balcony with their child, crying loudly.

Li Li went out to direct them, telling the mother and child to tie bedsheets, quilt covers, and so on together and climb down from the fifth floor. There really were quite a lot of zombies in this residential compound. With the mother and child crying, a large crowd had already gathered around the truck.

This was the advantage of a large truck. Low-level zombies could not shake it at all. As long as there was not a zombie tide of thousands or tens of thousands, it could always carve out a path through blood.

After rescuing the mother and child, other residents opened their windows and cried for help too.

Li Li kept negotiating with them, asking about their situation and how many people were in their homes. He explained their destination. Those willing to follow them would be rescued in the same way.

But there were also many people who still held onto the idea of waiting for rescue. Yet they also opened their windows and asked without much hope, “We’re not leaving. Can you give us some food? Do you have anything to eat?”

The people who asked did not actually hold much hope. Right now, they still had food at home. After all, ordinary households had some stored supplies. But the world had become like this. Sooner or later, their ammunition and food would run out. They were only asking.

The apocalypse had only just begun. Most people had not yet lost their humanity.

Putting themselves in the same position, thinking of the family members they had just saved, then looking at the people begging for help—who could not feel sorrow?

But the things on the truck did not belong to them. It was not up to them. The people in the truck compartment did not dare answer.

Li Li briefly climbed back into the truck and discussed it with the others.

“The oranges won’t last anyway. Why not give them some?” Li Li said. “And I tasted them. They’re damn sour, not good at all. Keeping them will take up space we could use for other supplies.”

Everyone looked at Li Li.

Just when he thought he had said something wrong, Jun Yueyue smiled. “Boss, for this sort of thing, of course your word counts.”

The two people in the front seat also laughed.

Li Li’s face suddenly turned red from being teased by Jun Yueyue. What kind of boss was he? When it came to killing zombies, he was not even as fierce as Jun Yueyue, let alone Ji Fei.

Calling him boss was merely because they valued his smooth tongue and let him argue with people.

Which boss was not cold, dazzling, and cool, responding to everything with only a light nod or one or two words to show temperament? How could there be someone like him, talking until his lips were almost worn thin?

Although Li Li muttered in his heart, seeing that Jun Yu had finally been amused by him, he still happily opened the window and directly ordered the people in the truck compartment, “Anyone who wants food, tell them to open their windows. Throw oranges.”

When the people in the compartment heard this, their hearts warmed too.

So on this cold night, at the beginning of the collapse of world order, the survivors of an entire residential compound received care from strangers—

A box of oranges.

After the oranges had almost been distributed, they took the survivors who were willing to follow them and drove out of the residential compound, beginning to collect supplies.

Large supermarkets were the best choice. But supermarkets usually had a lot of zombies too.

So they looked for supermarkets and grain and oil shops located in more hidden places. After confirming there were not many zombies inside and that they were not shelters for survivors, they broke in. Everyone swarmed forward, killed the zombies, then began moving goods.

The women took things from the shelves. The men directly pried open the warehouse. Like a storm passing through, they swept away everything that could be used.

Then they moved to the next place.

There were not many zombies inside closed shopping malls. After all, the mutation had happened early in the morning, and large shopping centres had not yet opened.

They found a large shopping mall that included a supermarket, clothes, daily necessities, medicine, and everything else. They simply and violently crashed through the entrance. After dealing with the zombies wandering nearby, they had not even finished clearing half the shopping mall and its underground supermarket before both trucks were full.

They covered both trucks with grey-blue tarps. This concealed the goods and also gave the people in the trucks an enclosed resting space.

At dawn, just as the first light rose, everyone had fought through the whole night. Finally, they were ready to set off. They drove onto the main road. Since trucks this large were not suitable for country roads, they had to take a detour via the Panpu highway to Pingchuan.

In the morning, Li Li spoke on the phone with Fatty at the resort. Fatty and the others had not been idle last night either. They had already cleared a small portion of the zombies and escaped from where they had been trapped to the supermarket area, joining up with other survivors.

Jun Yu and Jun Yueyue each tried to contact Old Master Jun, but unfortunately there was no response.

After Old Master Jun’s condition worsened, he had been living in a sanatorium in Pingchuan. Truthfully, Jun Yueyue did not have a very deep attachment to Old Master Jun. But thinking that he might have met disaster still made her feel bad. However, she was much better than Jun Yu.

With Fang Anyu lying on her lap and Jun Yu’s head in her arms, Jun Yueyue had one hand on each person’s head, slowly stroking them.

“It’s okay. Once we reach Pingchuan, we’ll go to the sanatorium to see Grandpa.”

Jun Yu hummed in agreement, sniffled, and continued leaning against Jun Yueyue without getting up. Li Li, sitting beside them, was so jealous that his mouth looked like it could hang an oil bottle.

In Jun Yueyue’s memories, her relationship with Jun Yu had never been very good.

Whether in the previous life or this one, her family’s favouritism had made Jun Yueyue’s feelings toward relatives extremely faint. But in this life, without the competitive relationship between the two sisters, Jun Yu had instead begun relying on her.

A soft and delicate girl leaning in your arms was something no one could refuse. Jun Yueyue’s feelings toward Jun Yu were now much better than before, and she was willing to be close to her.

However, after she held Jun Yu and comforted her for a while, Fang Anyu, who had been lying down the whole time, woke up again.

He was burning up, his face flushed red. Jun Yueyue had already given him fever medicine, but this was not an ordinary fever. So the fever medicine had very limited effect.

Right now, his entire person was dazed. Not only was his face red, but every time he opened his eyes, they were watery. His breath was also scorching hot. Every time Jun Yueyue met his confused gaze, she felt as if little cats were scratching wildly inside her heart.

So whenever he briefly woke up, Jun Yueyue would feed him food and water, nervous as if protecting a hatchling that had just fallen out of its eggshell.

Jun Yu sat up and tidied her hair. Li Li wrapped an arm around her shoulders and forcibly pressed her into his arms. Her face was against Li Li’s chest, and a faint smile appeared at the corner of her mouth. But she still reached out and pushed Li Li away, sitting upright in her own seat, looking straight ahead.

“Still angry?” Li Li coaxed her. “I definitely won’t speak carelessly in the future, and I won’t curse people either. Is that okay?”

Jun Yu glanced at him from the side. When he pulled her into his arms again, she did not struggle anymore. Li Li was so happy his mouth almost split to his ears.

Jun Yueyue began feeding Fang Anyu water again.

This time, after waking, Fang Anyu seemed much better than the previous time. He drank a lot of water and ate a lot of food. His eyes regained some clarity. It was just that his fever was still severe.

Jun Yueyue communicated with him using the phone.

“Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? Or is anything strange?”

Fang Anyu slowly shook his head, not daring to say.

He felt that his control ability seemed to have grown a little stronger. While they were collecting supplies, Fang Anyu had briefly woken up too. He had tried using his ability and could already sense the number of zombies nearby.

But he still could not determine exactly how many he could control.

Fang Anyu was a little afraid to speak of this ability. Because the ability to control zombies was something only mutated zombies could do…

His heart was anxious. The more Jun Yueyue asked him with concern, the more anxious Fang Anyu became.

The direction of his mutation was wrong. No human mutation would allow someone to control zombies. As soon as he said it, Jun Yueyue would definitely be able to guess that he had already recovered his memories from before, and had even gained the ability to control the world.

She was too clever.

Fang Anyu did not want her to know he had remembered those things at all.

He especially liked the way he and Jun Yueyue were together now. If he remembered everything, then the state between them would definitely become wrong…

Fang Anyu was so anxious that sweat appeared on his forehead.

He could not have the ability to control zombies. But apart from that, what other ability could he have?

Jun Yueyue looked at him gently. There was not the slightest pressure in her eyes. Yet under that gaze, Fang Anyu grew so nervous his Adam’s apple bobbed and his breathing became more and more rapid.

What should he do…

Did he really have to tell the truth?

If he said it, would Jun Yueyue still like him? He had accidentally ruined the whole world…

Fang Anyu shifted his gaze away, lowered his head, and kept rubbing his fingers. He thought that perhaps he should just say he had no ability. Yes, no ability at all!

That way, Jun Yueyue would still like him the way she did now. She would still take care of him like this. Fang Anyu knew she liked this version of him.

But just as he was about to take the phone and lie, the moment he reached out, Jun Yueyue suddenly grabbed his wrist.

She stared wide-eyed at his hand and gently flicked… a leaf that had grown on it.

Fang Anyu: …It’s over. I was so scared I grew grass.

He quickly tried to pull off the little leaf on his hand, but Jun Yueyue stopped him. She smiled at Fang Anyu, took the phone, and used voice input, also telling everyone in the truck compartment, “You awakened a wood-type ability. That’s great!”

Fang Anyu looked at the words on the phone screen. His movement of secretly trying to pinch off a blade of grass that had grown between his fingers stopped.

A wood-type ability?

Then wood-type it was…

“A wood-type ability. That’s the one you said can soothe the violent emotions of other mutated people when they advance,” Fang Anyan said. “My brother will be able to heal us in the future, right?”

Jun Yueyue nodded vigorously. “Not only can he heal, he can soothe the mental agitation of mutated people. He’ll also be amazing at growing food!”

In Jun Yueyue’s heart, the ability Fang Anyu had awakened truly suited him especially well.

He would not need to participate in battle. Because the further into the apocalypse they went, the more people would die from their bodies exploding during advancement. Wood-type abilities would become especially precious.

Fang Anyu should be exactly like this.

He did not need to go out and kill. He did not need to face zombies directly. He could stay inside the base, planting flowers, grass, and vegetables. Then, when they were upgrading and going berserk, he could help soothe their minds.

That was enough.

He should always remain this gentle, clean person. That suited him best.

Jun Yueyue was truly extremely satisfied with this ability. She kept reaching out to touch the little leaves sprouting from Fang Anyu’s fingers and the back of his hand.

Fang Anyu looked at Jun Yueyue with a complicated expression. Then he tried to urge more leaves to grow from his hand.

He was doing this purely to make Jun Yueyue happy.

In this man-eating world, awakening a wood-type ability in the early stage was truly not useful at all. It had no offensive power. Ability users had not even had time to mutate yet, let alone level up. If he really was a wood-type ability user, then he would purely be a burden…

No one in the truck was stupid. Of course they knew this ability was useless in the early stage.

But they… all seemed to accept it very well, as if they had never expected Fang Anyu to awaken some powerful skill in the first place.

Fang Anyu’s thoughts grew complicated. As his mind wandered, perhaps because he used too much force or directed it wrongly, all the leaves on his hand disappeared with a rustle.

Jun Yueyue had just been admiring them with great interest. Suddenly, Fang Anyu’s leaves were gone. She reached out and touched the smooth back of his hand, then looked up at him in confusion.

Then Jun Yueyue burst out laughing.

Not only did she laugh, everyone in the truck laughed too.

The leaves on Fang Anyu’s hand were gone, but a pile of leaves had grown on top of his head…

They circled around his hair, lush and green, making him look especially like a jungle prince.

Jun Yueyue reached out and touched his head. Fang Anyu also reached up and touched it, then his face turned red.

This ability had been frightened out of him. He really could not control it well.

As soon as he felt shy, the leaves on top of his head rustled and all shrank back. But they did not disappear completely. Two leaves growing together, perhaps because they had gotten stuck while shrinking back, remained. They stood abruptly on his head.

Fang Anyu looked at Jun Yueyue.

The two leaves also twisted their blades toward Jun Yueyue and even shook playfully.

Jun Yueyue smiled, revealing a mouthful of small white teeth.

In her heart, she sighed. Actually, even the apocalypse did not matter. As long as she was with Fang Anyu, no matter what kind of world it was, it did not matter. He could still make her laugh happily like this.

She reached out and pinched the two leaves, then slowly mouthed, “Very cute.”

As usual, Jun Yueyue said it three times in a row.

But Fang Anyu had already heard it the first time.

That was right.

He had heard it.
