MDMSC Chapter 50

Did She… Really Love Him?

Jun Yueyue cupped Fang Anyu’s head with both hands and felt around a few times. Then she asked nervously, “Are you okay?”

She asked twice in a row. Only after Fang Anyu understood the shape of her lips did he shake his head.

The other chandeliers in the room were still swaying. Fang Anyan protected Ji Fei, Li Li protected Jun Yu, and even Wu Zhenfei protected Ming Zhen. The remaining family of three curled up beside the sofa, shrieking chaotically.

Jun Yueyue pulled Fang Anyu around the swaying chandeliers and shoved him under the nearest table. Then she quickly walked to the door and opened it first, to prevent the doorframe from warping if the tremors became too severe, which would stop them from being able to open the door later.

After opening the door, Jun Yueyue quickly ran back under the table. The others also quickly found sturdy furniture to hide beneath.

Jun Yueyue hugged Fang Anyu’s head against her chest and kissed him.

This time, the apocalypse had arrived completely unexpectedly. But Jun Yueyue did not have time to think carefully about why it had suddenly come. Fang Anyu was beside her, safe and properly together with her. For the moment, Jun Yueyue could not think of any other reason that would affect the arrival of the apocalypse.

She had even wondered whether, because she had been reborn and the two worlds had intersected again through her and Fang Anyu, they had merged together.

But Jun Yueyue was certain of one thing: in the apocalypse, there had been no earthquake at the beginning.

This earthquake had come as strangely as the apocalypse itself. Jun Yueyue hugged Fang Anyu and prayed nervously. Perhaps heaven heard her prayers, because very soon, the faint shaking in the room disappeared.

Everyone crawled out from under the furniture one after another. Jun Yueyue and the others exchanged glances. Without even needing to say anything, they tacitly split up and moved quickly.

Fang Anyan and Ji Fei rushed to the window, opened it, found solid wooden chairs in the room according to the original plan, and threw them from the height toward the row of cars below. After throwing them, they did not even have time to check whether they had hit anything. They immediately all ran toward the door.

At this time, they truly could not wait any longer.

No one knew when the second wave of the earthquake would come, or how strong it would be.

Jun Yueyue searched the room several times and found something that looked like a commemorative award plate. It was much larger than an ordinary plate and was an award the hotel had won. She handed the large plate to Fang Anyu and told him to hold it above his head. Then she pulled Fang Anyu and ran outside.

But when they reached the door, Jun Yueyue saw Wu Zhenfei and Ming Zhen still hiding under the solid wooden coffee table and paused.

Jun Yueyue tightened her grip on Fang Anyu’s hand. After hesitating for a moment, she still shouted, “Wu Zhenfei, take Ming Zhen and come with us. This place isn’t safe.”

After shouting that, Jun Yueyue quickly pulled Fang Anyu and ran outside, toward the stairwell.

She had called out to him. At this moment, that was all she could do.

If they really stayed in this building, that would be dangerous. Even if they wanted to wait for the military, they had to wait somewhere safe. After all, no one knew whether there would be a second earthquake, nor how severe it would be.

Almost the instant Wu Zhenfei heard Jun Yueyue call him, he responded. Then he directly knocked the coffee table aside and pulled Ming Zhen toward the door.

The shrieking family of three had originally been watching Wu Zhenfei closely. Seeing him get up, they also quickly ran out from behind the sofa and followed everyone outside.

They entered the stairwell.

No one had time to look back. More than twenty floors. Right now, they were racing against time as they ran downward.

Jun Yueyue’s palm was full of damp sweat as she pulled Fang Anyu quickly down the stairs. She did not see Fang Anyu look back halfway through.

Because of that dream, he already knew this was his world. He knew everything had started over again.

The person behind them—he no longer had to be like in the last life, so jealous he nearly went mad, yet only able to watch Jun Yue fool around with him.

When Fang Anyu thought of those things from the past, his heart churned in waves.

He could not speak, and he could not hear, but that did not mean he had no perception. It did not mean he understood nothing.

Through long torment, he had learned hatred.

He hated everyone around him.

He hated Jun Yueyue for using him to get close to his younger brother. He hated his younger brother for suspecting him because of Jun Yu. He hated Jun Yu for always pretending to be kind, yet refusing to explain at the critical moment.

Back then, after Jun Yue left, the reason he had grown close to Jun Yu was only to find out Jun Yue’s whereabouts.

He hated that Wu Zhenfei could always mix around with Jun Yue.

He hated that Jun Yue stayed out all night after night.

He hated that she spoke cruelly to him, hated that she treated him harshly, hated that she refused to accept his kindness, refused to believe him even once, refused to give him even one chance.

He hated that even in death, she had died somewhere he could not reach.

But what Fang Anyu hated even more was himself.

He hated that he liked Jun Yue.

Liked her so much that after learning she was gone, even being alive felt painful.

He had fallen in love with a piece of human trash. Yet everything she had given him was too intense. Whether it was love, hatred, or indescribable desire, all of it had already trapped him beyond escape.

After she had painted chaotically and vividly across his blank life, he had no way to return to his original peace.

He offered up his own ruined life with both hands, yet she had thrown herself without hesitation into death in the sky.

Fang Anyu hated her so much his heart hurt.

When he ended his own life, when his breath was swallowed by the bitter, salty seawater, he cursed her to taste betrayal and all the pain he had experienced.

But he could not help a faint delusion from appearing.

If everything began again… would she fall in love with him?

Fang Anyu had never dared imagine that the world really would begin again.

That she really would fall in love with him.

That she would even do so much for him.

But he simply did not dare believe it.

Did she… really love him?

Fang Anyu remembered the time she had accidentally let something slip. She carried memories from the previous life and knew that all the misery she had experienced had come from him.

In this life, she loved the version of him who understood nothing.

If she knew that everything had once again come from his uncontrollable hatred, that it was his hatred that had turned a perfectly good world into this, would she still love him?

Fang Anyu did not dare let her know.

This world had already lost control. The apocalypse was not his intention.

As the master of this world, the only things he could still do were manipulate these harmless little earthquakes and control individual zombies that came near him.

Only individual ones.

But even this limited ability could allow him to easily kill Wu Zhenfei in the chaos.

He thought: if this time, he killed the people circling around her, would she only be able to look at him?

Thinking such dark thoughts, Fang Anyu was pulled by Jun Yueyue as they ran downstairs. He failed to pay attention and stumbled. Seeing that he was about to fall downward, Jun Yueyue reacted quickly and took a big step forward. On the last step, she caught Fang Anyu.

The momentum sent her whole body crashing into the wall, so hard it felt as if the organs in her chest were about to shift. Her face went pale from pain, yet the first thing she did was ask Fang Anyu, who had collided into her, “Are you okay…”

Seeing Fang Anyu dazed, she asked again, “Are you okay…”

Fang Anyu understood the shape of her lips. Then his gaze fell into her concerned eyes.

Jun Yueyue’s eyes looked at him.

Only him.

Under her gaze, Fang Anyu was fiercely soothed. The dark emotions from earlier slowly disappeared bit by bit. He shook his head, reached out, and wrapped his arm around Jun Yueyue. Then he became the one leading her as they continued running down.

When they all ran out of the stairwell, they briefly gathered in the lobby.

But this time, it was not only their group. There were also other survivors who had felt the earthquake and had been hiding in their rooms.

Of course, there were more zombie corpses in the lobby too. These survivors also looked extremely dishevelled, and some were crying. Clearly, they had also experienced a brutal fight in the corridors on their floors.

Jun Yueyue’s back still hurt from the impact. With Fang Anyu supporting her, she simply leaned the full weight of her body against him, relaxing herself.

Ji Fei was organising the group of survivors. Men and women with combat ability were divided up and sent to find handy weapons. She taught them where to attack in order to effectively kill zombies.

Wu Zhenfei found a pair of pliers behind the front desk and held them. The family of three that had been following closely behind him shrank back, refusing to come out.

Ji Fei said bluntly, “If you don’t fight, no one will protect you.”

Ji Fei paused and added, “And if anyone dares push or shove again, causing someone else to be bitten or fall behind, I’ll personally blow their head open.”

The girl named Jiaojiao instantly broke down crying again, making everyone’s head hurt from the noise.

After quickly finishing the organisation, everyone opened the side door. Those with fighting ability took the lead. Outside, some of the zombies had been attracted by the chairs Ji Fei and Fang Anyan had thrown down onto the cars, but there were still some wandering nearby. The moment everyone came out of the building, those zombies began rushing toward the crowd.

Even though everyone had something in their hands, they were still ordinary people in the end.

From the family of three that had been following behind Wu Zhenfei, only the man came out holding a wine bottle he had found behind the front desk, cowering at the back.

Although everyone’s efficiency was not particularly high, they were still advancing at a steady pace.

Even though Jun Yueyue had not mutated, she dealt with zombies cleanly and efficiently. The main reason was that she had killed many of them before. She knew the zombies’ weaknesses well and knew where to stab to most easily and quickly pierce their skulls.

She protected Fang Anyu behind her, in the middle of the group, and followed everyone toward the parking area.

The zombies gradually decreased, and they were almost at the large parking lot. Some people had already taken out their car keys and left to look for their cars. The rest continued to gather together.

Without the sound of zombies, the parking lot was relatively quiet. Everyone had only just breathed a sigh of relief when, as they turned into the parking area, a zombie suddenly shot out from the side and just happened to pounce onto the man from that family of three.

The sharp scream in the empty, semi-enclosed parking lot was practically amplified. He and the zombie came face to face. The wine bottle in his hand did not strike the zombie’s head. Instead, he even lifted it high, as if afraid he might hit the zombie.

He was knocked to the ground.

Fortunately, a big-bellied man in a suit beside him reacted quickly. Using a metal tray folded into a triangle, he stabbed down again and again at the zombie’s head.

Blood splattered everywhere.

The man pinned beneath the zombie was still screaming, his mouth wide open, “Wah, wah, wah.” In the end, someone else grabbed him by the collar, hauled him up, and covered his mouth. Only then did he finally stop shouting.

Two men pulled him over and checked him. After discovering there were no wounds on his body, they relaxed slightly.

But just as everyone split up to look for cars, the man who had been tackled by the zombie and screamed wildly suddenly erupted, biting open his wife’s neck.

This time, not only did his wife and daughter scream, but several people beside them also cried out in fear.

Then everything lost control.

After biting his wife, he bit another woman nearby. The group that had been barely maintaining formation instantly scattered.

The cries rising one after another quickly attracted zombies from outside.

The underground garage, which had originally been relatively safe, instantly turned into an amusement park where zombies chased humans.

Those who had been bitten would soon stand back up and rapidly attack the humans around them.

Jun Yueyue, Li Li, and the others had never separated. Fighting while retreating, they quickly shrank back beside the car.

But although the jeep’s space was fairly large, the number of people it could hold was still limited. Even if the two rear rows of seats were stuffed full, they could not fit everyone in this small group.

“Does anyone have a car they can drive?!” Jun Yueyue shouted in a low voice.

No one answered.

Seeing more and more zombies running in from the entrance, everyone was trapped in a dilemma. They had all fought their way out together. If they abandoned people now, it would be no different from directly killing them.

Although Jun Yueyue and the others were not saints, they could not lose their basic humanity.

Seeing that all the other survivors had been infected and more and more zombies were rushing toward them, everyone formed a battle formation again.

Ji Fei’s driving skills were relatively good. She got into the car and drove, bringing the women who were not good at fighting. The car would clear the path in front, while those behind stood back-to-back, preparing to carve out a path and escape first.

What they needed was speed and accuracy.

As soon as Ji Fei drove out, she directly knocked two zombies flying. The wheels rolled over the zombies’ bodies, and the people behind hurried to follow, gritting their teeth as they finished off the fallen ones while dealing with zombies lunging from the side.

But there were too many zombies.

The number Ji Fei could run over was limited. Soon, zombies began catching up from behind too. The people following the car were attacked from three sides.

After someone was bitten, he briefly broke down. Before he fell ill, he continued helping kill zombies, crying as he killed and begging everyone, “Help my wife. Help her. She has heart disease…”

Jun Yueyue tightened her jaw and turned to look into the car, meeting the gaze of a middle-aged woman pressing one hand to her heart, her eyes full of despair.

Too many zombies were attacking from behind.

Just as everyone was about to be unable to hold on, the person who had not yet had time to mutate suddenly threw down his weapon and ran toward the group of zombies.

The zombies swarmed him.

Most of them stopped to gnaw at him, buying everyone time.

That person did not make a sound from beginning to end. He did not even turn back to look at the car.

Yet Jun Yueyue felt pain spread through her entire body.

She thought of herself in the previous life.

But the sacrifice of one person was still far from enough. There were truly too many zombies. Everyone had been following the car since leaving the lobby and had already begun to tire. Their combat strength weakened.

Jun Yueyue glanced at Fang Anyu, whom she had been protecting behind her all along.

She was about to knock on the car door and ask Ji Fei to stop so Fang Anyu could get in. Compared with the women, he was even more of a disabled person. He did not usually exercise much either. At this moment, his face was already frighteningly pale. He should not stay outside.

Earlier, Fang Anyu had clung to Jun Yueyue and refused to get in no matter what. He had been secretly helping Jun Yueyue all this time, controlling the zombies that rushed toward her. At first, he could make the zombies turn around. But later, he could only slow their movements.

And in just this short time, his face had already turned unbearably pale. Cold sweat flowed down his face, and his head hurt as if it were splitting.

Suddenly, gunshots rang out one after another outside.

The zombies that had been rushing toward the entrance were attracted by the sound and turned toward the direction of the gunfire. At the same time, Wu Zhenfei’s phone vibrated.

He quickly answered the call and rapidly reported their location.

Very soon, fully armed soldiers in camouflage rushed into the parking lot with guns, quickly cleared out the zombies, and rescued everyone.

Only after everyone came out of the parking lot did they realise it was already evening.

The setting sun spread like blood, spilling down from the horizon. A military truck was parked in the square in front of the hotel. The door opened, and a middle-aged man, also dressed in camouflage, got out.

He wore the same camouflage uniform as the young soldiers. Jun Yueyue could not tell his rank, but he had a strong presence. When he walked to Wu Zhenfei, his attitude was unexpectedly solemn, even carrying a hint of respect.

“Zhenfei, my surname is Zhang. I assume your uncle told you. Just call me Uncle Zhang. Your uncle sent me to pick you up. Get in. Your mother is waiting for you in Heji Province.”

As the man spoke, he looked at Ming Zhen behind Wu Zhenfei. “This is your wife, right? Sit up front together.”

The young girl named Jiaojiao, whose parents had both died, quickly got out of the car Ji Fei had driven and grabbed Wu Zhenfei’s arm.

“Brother Zhenfei, you promised to take me with you…”

Ming Zhen had originally been frightened badly and was curled in Wu Zhenfei’s arms. But seeing this little bitch try this trick again, she instantly broke free from Wu Zhenfei and slapped Jiaojiao so hard she almost dropped to her knees.

“Try playing this trick in front of me again,” Ming Zhen pointed at her. “Go on, try.”

“Ming Zhen!” Wu Zhenfei shouted in reproach.

Ming Zhen immediately shut her mouth.

The middle-aged man looked at Jiaojiao, who had not yet climbed up from the ground and looked like a fragile little white flower. He shifted his gaze away and said, “There’s limited space in the vehicle. Everyone else can go into the rear compartment. We’re leaving now.”

With the soldiers’ help, everyone began moving toward the rear compartment. The girl covered her face, gritted her teeth, and also went to the back.

Only Jun Yueyue, Ji Fei, and their group of six did not move.

Wu Zhenfei was originally about to get into the vehicle, but when he saw Jun Yueyue turn and walk toward the jeep, he immediately got halfway up, then climbed back down.

“Yueyue, where are you going?!” Wu Zhenfei ran a few steps to Jun Yueyue and was just about to reach out and pull her.

Coincidentally, at that moment, Fang Anyu’s eyes closed, his little face deathly pale as he fainted. Jun Yueyue and Fang Anyan, who stood beside him, immediately supported Fang Anyu together.

Wu Zhenfei’s hand missed. He withdrew it, his face full of anxiety.

“Come with us. They have guns. It’s safer, Yueyue…”

“We have somewhere else to go,” Jun Yueyue turned to Wu Zhenfei and said. “You go.”

“Yueyue, don’t joke around,” Wu Zhenfei’s face was pale. “The six of you only have one jeep. It’s too dangerous. I already spoke to Uncle Zhang. He’ll instruct the soldiers to look after you!”

Jun Yueyue pressed her lips together. She smiled at Wu Zhenfei, shook her head, then got into the jeep.

The man surnamed Zhang leaned against the side of the vehicle. After watching Jun Yueyue and the others drive away, he pulled Wu Zhenfei into the vehicle and said, “If they want to run off and die, why are you worrying so much?”

Wu Zhenfei frowned. Hearing those words made him extremely uncomfortable. But his lips moved, and in the end, he only glanced at the man without speaking.

Jun Yueyue’s car was actually almost out of fuel.

Their first priority was to find a petrol station, then find a large truck.

A petrol station was not hard to find, but there were several zombies wandering around it. After checking, there were seven.

They parked the car by the roadside and sat silently inside. After killing their way out earlier, several of them had all taken the lead and were somewhat exhausted.

Ji Fei was used to high-intensity combat and was in the best state among them. After stopping the car, she kept asking Fang Anyan softly and gently whether he was injured or had bumped into anything.

“If you did, you need to tell me. I’ll massage it for you.”

Ji Fei now had a delicate, expensive, carefully crafted face, yet she was looking with doting affection at a man who looked much stronger than her. The image was truly beautiful.

Li Li was so soured by it that he could not help muttering quietly, “I hit my arm too. No one wants to massage me…”

Jun Yu had run a stretch, and her legs hurt a little. She removed the prosthetics from her feet. Hearing this, she turned her head to meet Li Li’s gaze and waved her prosthetic leg.

“I can use it to knock on you.”

Li Li sighed, then grinned and pulled Jun Yu’s leg over, kneading the painful area with just the right amount of force.

The whole car was filled with the sour stench of love.

Jun Yueyue could not bear to look. Sitting in the back seat, she pulled Fang Anyu, who was curled up sideways on the seat, onto her lap. He was still unconscious. Jun Yueyue placed her palm over his forehead and felt that he was clearly running a fever.

“We need to find a quiet pharmacy later and get some medicine,” Jun Yueyue said. “Anyu has a fever. We also need to prepare some medicine.”

Only now did Ji Fei finally fail to hold back her curiosity.

“You seem to understand this kind of thing very well. How exactly do you know all this?”

Using this period of rest, everyone threw out all their questions.

Jun Yueyue had long since thought of how to answer. She simply told them it was from dreams.

“You’re saying you had the same dream continuously for several months?” Li Li had long heard Jun Yueyue say that the world was going to change. He had even believed it for a while. But when it came to the reason being dreams, he had always been half-believing, half-doubting.

However, all the weather changes and various abnormal phenomena had confirmed what she said. That was why Li Li had followed her in stockpiling supplies, just in case.

But the world had not changed at the time she mentioned. So Li Li had donated all the stockpiled supplies. Who would have known that after one damn night, the world would change again?

Facing everyone’s questions, Jun Yueyue answered them one by one.

“Yes, dreams. Having the same dream for several months straight was too strange,” Jun Yueyue lied. “Later, I discovered that the anomalies in the dream overlapped with reality. That was why I believed it.”

Jun Yueyue said, “Li Li knows that during that period, I stockpiled a lot of supplies. But the apocalypse didn’t arrive on schedule.”

“The apocalypse?” Ji Fei frowned slightly. “This madness disease isn’t limited to our country?”

Jun Yueyue also thought of Ji Fei’s mercenary group. Although Ji Fei was no longer the leader, those were still brothers who had gone through life and death with her.

Jun Yueyue paused, then said, “This is a worldwide zombie outbreak. That’s why I call it the apocalypse.”

“Then in your dream, when did this disaster end?” Fang Anyan asked.

Jun Yueyue lowered her head to look at Fang Anyu lying on her lap. With an emotion that was faintly bitter, faintly sweet, and overall very complicated, she said, “I don’t know. In the dream, I didn’t live until the end. I died in the fifth year.”

Everyone fell silent.

A moment later, Jun Yu spoke. “Sister, I saw that the first person in the parking lot—the one holding the wine bottle who was knocked down—wasn’t bitten. How did he still get infected?”

Jun Yueyue thought back for a moment. She did remember that someone had checked the man’s injuries just in case.

“If he really wasn’t bitten, then when he opened his mouth to scream, zombie blood must have splashed into his mouth.”

Everyone understood.

Jun Yueyue took the opportunity to explain more to them.

“Other than direct bites, scratches won’t do either,” Jun Yueyue said. “But from what we’ve seen now, if there’s something between you and the zombie, as long as the wound doesn’t directly come into contact with zombie bodily fluids, you won’t be infected.”

“Also, Anyu has a fever right now,” Jun Yueyue said. “His fever is very abnormal. His face is deathly pale, and he looks like he’s in pain. I’m guessing this isn’t an ordinary fever. He may be about to mutate.”

“What mutation?”

“Mutation?!”

Jun Yu and Ji Fei spoke at the same time. Both thought of the earlier incident when Fang Anyu had been bitten.

Jun Yueyue quickly explained, “Not mutating into a zombie! His wound didn’t come into contact with zombie bodily fluids. The longest mutation time is two hours. He has already passed that time long ago!”

After saying this, Jun Yueyue looked at Li Li. “Do you remember? I told you before that humans can also mutate and develop abilities.”

Li Li nodded. “I remember…”

But he was truly half-believing, half-doubting about this.

Jun Yueyue said, “So, before the apocalypse, those who had fevers and mutated at the very beginning of the apocalypse all became zombies. But there will also be some people whose mutation is delayed.”

Jun Yueyue continued, “They might be delayed by a day or two, or more than ten days. Some people even need some special event to trigger it.”

Ji Fei thought of how Fang Anyan had previously had a fever, and then she herself had also had a fever. She had even joked that Fang Anyan had infected her…

“What kinds of abilities are there?” Ji Fei asked again.

Jun Yueyue simply explained abilities to them.

But in the previous apocalypse, there had been no Fang Anyan, no Jun Yu, and no Fang Anyu. She only knew that Li Li had an earth-type ability. As for Ji Fei, Jun Yueyue remembered that she did not have an ability.

And now Fang Anyu was feverish. What kind of ability he would mutate into, Jun Yueyue also did not know…

As they spoke, everyone quickly rested.

But they had to find a large truck before nightfall, so they did not rest for long. Soon, they began planning how to clear the zombies at the petrol station, fill the car with fuel, and then follow the map to the freight station.

In the end, the plan they agreed on was this: Jun Yueyue would drive and refuel, Jun Yu would watch Fang Anyu in the back, and the remaining three would get out to deal with the zombies, avoiding guns as much as possible.

Setting aside the fact that they had no suppressors, guns were too loud. Before everyone had mutated, guns were an extremely powerful weapon. Not only could they save lives in a crisis, they could also intimidate other people.

After all, in the apocalypse, zombies were not the only terrifying thing.

The collapse and distortion of human nature were even more unpredictable.

Scattered wandering zombies were easier to deal with. Jun Yueyue also used the car to knock one flying. The remaining ones were quickly dealt with by the three outside. After filling the car with fuel, they found two fifty-jin fuel barrels inside the petrol station. They filled one with diesel and the other with petrol, placing them in the boot for storage.

After that, Ji Fei looked at the shop attached to the petrol station and turned her head to ask Fang Anyan, “Are you hungry?”

Fang Anyan shook his head hard. After killing so many zombies, the only reason he had not vomited was because there was nothing in his stomach to throw up.

His lips were a little dry. Any normal person who suddenly encountered something like this would find it unbearable. Li Li, at least, had once mixed around outside and had seen bloody, cruel scenes. Besides, Jun Yueyue had told him about the apocalypse beforehand, so he had been somewhat mentally prepared and was doing okay.

Fang Anyan was the one who had had absolutely no preparation. The fact that he could hold on could already be considered very manly. He even still remembered to care about Ji Fei.

“Are you hungry? I’ll go get you something to eat.”

Ji Fei smiled, making her face look even sharper. Actually, the surgery had been done quite naturally. Fang Anyan had spent a huge amount of money on it, and it indeed matched mainstream aesthetics. In the normal world, her face would easily resemble many others. But in a world like this, she really was a delicate flower.

She actually liked Fang Anyan exactly like this.

Clearly, he carried so much. Clearly, he felt terrible. Yet he could always hold everything up and still behave as he should without delay.

This was what a real man was.

Ji Fei admired Fang Anyan’s resilience and liked him more and more.

“I’ll go with you,” Li Li said.

Through the window, he asked Jun Yu, “What do you want to eat?”

Although Jun Yu had not directly faced the zombies, she had seen everything from up close and also had no appetite. She shook her head listlessly.

In the end, it was Jun Yueyue who said, “Get some food. We haven’t eaten all day. Everyone has to replenish their strength. Also, all of you have had fevers, right? We don’t know when you’ll mutate. Mutation requires a large amount of food to replenish energy. We also need to store some.”

Everyone drove the car to the entrance of the petrol station shop. Inside, one salesperson had already turned into a zombie and was standing in front of the counter, swaying.

They opened the door. Smelling living humans, the zombie lunged in their direction. Fang Anyan raised his hand and cleanly stabbed into its eye socket. When the spike was pulled out, the zombie fell out through the doorway and was dragged aside by Li Li.

Everyone first checked inside and outside to confirm there was no one else in the small shop. Then they borrowed the bathroom, cleaned their hands and faces slightly, and began finding plastic bags to pack things.

Ready-to-eat food was their first choice right now. After all, food that required cooking needed a quiet, stable environment. So everyone swept piles of food from the shelves into bags, which were then carried by those with more strength and put into the car.

The small shop was quickly emptied of most things. Their car space was limited after all, and their current priority was filling their stomachs, replenishing energy, and then finding a large truck. Only after finding a large truck would they collect supplies in large quantities for later use.

So no one was greedy. Once they had taken enough, they got back into the car.

This place was fairly quiet. After dealing with those few zombies, they did not see any others. There were none wandering along the road either.

They parked the car near the exit and began eating inside the car.

Fang Anyan and Jun Yu had the least appetite, but they could not withstand the coaxing and pampering from the people beside them, and still ate quite a bit.

As Jun Yueyue ate, she stroked Fang Anyu’s hair and used her fingers to smooth out his tightly furrowed brow, hoping he would wake up quickly.

Midway, they encountered another group who had come to refuel. They rolled up the windows and sat quietly in the car, watching that group fill their car with petrol, fill fuel barrels, and then go into the shop and loot it clean. They even cursed, saying that someone had beaten them to it in such a remote place.

The car’s dark-tinted windows blocked the people inside from view. From beginning to end, that group never saw them and eventually drove away.

After eating, they pulled up navigation on the phone. The freight station was near the edge of the city. Everyone drove directly toward that place.

The journey was fairly smooth. The zombies wandering on the streets could not catch up with moving vehicles. However, in two places, the road was blocked by chain collisions, so they had no choice but to force the car through.

By the time they reached the freight station, the sky was nearly dark.

The gate was tightly shut. They parked the car outside and looked around. After not seeing any traces of zombies, they got out and looked inside for a moment.

Jun Yueyue walked to the security booth. She did not see anyone inside. The booth was not locked either, so it was easy to open the main gate.

Everyone turned off the car lights and slowly drove in.

The entire freight station was very spacious. After they parked and turned the headlights on, they waited for a while but still did not discover any zombies.

There should have been workers here. The absence of zombies was very strange.

They drove slowly around the freight station and found the office. Usually, the keys to vehicles at a freight station would be kept there.

Just as everyone was preparing to get out and search for keys, a crowd of people suddenly rushed out from a warehouse at the side and surrounded their car.

Yes, a crowd of people.

Not zombies.

But they looked even more dishevelled than zombies. Judging from their clothing, they were likely workers from the freight station. The bloodstains on their clothes were probably from a brutal battle.

They all held weapons, surrounding the car with hostile eyes. They looked even more malicious than zombies.

The leader was a man who looked around fifty years old. He held a fire axe and pointed fiercely at them, shouting, “Get out! We’re not taking people in here!”

Ji Fei froze for a moment and frowned, glancing back.

Everyone quickly understood. These people thought they had come to seek refuge.

Ji Fei rolled the window down slightly and quickly shouted at the people in front, “We’re not staying here. We just need one large truck. Give us a truck and we’ll leave.”

“Hurry up and get lost! There are no trucks!” Two men behind him also began shouting.

Soon, everyone started yelling, “Get out! If you don’t, we’ll chop you to death!”

Everyone in the car frowned.

There was more than one freight station in Qiuhai City, but this was the only one convenient for moving around the city, and it was also more or less on the way back to Pingchuan.

As they shouted, the men did not see them drive away in defeat. The man waving the axe brought it down with a clang onto the hood of the car, using a louder voice to threaten them.

“Get lost!”

The sound of the axe striking the hood was too loud. Jun Yu was frightened and shrank back. Li Li wrapped his arm around Jun Yu’s shoulders. Jun Yueyue felt Fang Anyu, who was lying on her lap, also move slightly.

Ji Fei did not waste any more words. She took out her gun, opened the car window, and without even looking properly, fired a shot at the ground near the shouting man’s feet.

Bang!

After that sound, the group of people who had just been so arrogant all retreated several steps at once, staring in terror in their direction.
