Do You Like My Younger Brother?
She frowned tightly. Jun Yu also raised her head to look around, but she was in a wheelchair, and with so many people blocking the way, she could not see anything at all.
“What’s wrong?” Jun Yu could only turn back and ask Jun Yueyue.
Jun Yueyue shook her head, handed Jun Yu over to a waiter to watch, then walked straight toward the private room surrounded by the crowd.
“I’m teaching my own wife a lesson! What’s it got to do with you—” The man was so drunk his speech was slurred. His fists swung wildly but could not hit anyone. He had been pinned to the ground, yet he was still shouting curses.
Jun Yueyue lifted the curtain and went in. She saw Fang Anyan with one knee pressed against the man’s back, gripping the back of his neck. His hand was trembling slightly, and his eyes were red, clearly furious.
“How did a fight start?” Jun Yueyue asked.
But then she saw a woman sitting beside the man lying on the ground, crying in muffled sobs. She looked utterly wretched. Her hair was a mess, and she seemed to be around forty. Her cheeks and eyes were bruised black and blue, and there was dried blood at the corner of her mouth.
Not only that, but as she sat there, probably because she had struggled, her skirt had ridden up to her thighs in a very indecent manner. Yet what drew the eye was not her exposed body, but her legs, which were covered densely in injuries: bruises, burns, new wounds overlapping old ones. It was shocking to look at.
There was no need for Fang Anyan to explain. Based on the drunken man’s earlier curses and the scene in front of her, Jun Yueyue already knew what had happened—the man had beaten his wife in public, and Fang Anyan could not stand it, so he had intervened.
Jun Yueyue first pulled Fang Anyu outside and had him stand farther away. Then she returned to the room, crouched down, and pulled the woman’s skirt down. Only then did Fang Anyan speak.
“Call the police.”
“Someone already has,” Jun Yueyue said.
The man on the ground, who had stopped struggling, suddenly burst out with strength. He threw Fang Anyan off and nearly overturned the table as he shoved it aside, then bolted, ready to run.
Fang Anyan reached out to grab him, but the man turned his head. In his hand, he was holding a broken porcelain bone plate that had fallen to the ground, and he slashed it across Fang Anyan’s hand—
“You damn well wait for me!”
After shouting, the man ran toward the door.
There were so many people standing at the doorway, but not a single one dared to reach out and stop him. The soft feared the hard, and the hard feared those who did not fear death. Since he was holding a piece of porcelain in his hand, everyone was afraid of being hurt and scattered in a rush to avoid him.
Jun Yueyue turned and chased after him, but the man had probably been frightened out of his wits after hearing that the police had been called. He ran extremely fast and had already reached the entrance and opened the door.
But by sheer coincidence, Fang Anyu was standing right there by the door. He was a little slow, but he was not stupid. And his sluggishness had improved a lot these past few days. At the critical moment, his reaction was unexpectedly quick. Seeing the man run over, he actually reached out to grab him without knowing the danger—
Jun Yueyue’s eyes nearly split open. Instinctively, she shouted, “Move!”
But Fang Anyu could not hear her. By the time the words left her mouth, he had already grabbed the man.
The man’s eyes had gone red. He turned his head and roared at Fang Anyu, “Let go!”
Fang Anyu was deaf. No matter how frightening, sticky, or crazed his voice was, it held no deterrent effect for him. Not only did he not let go, but after confirming that this was the man Fang Anyan had just hit, he used both hands and gripped the man’s arm tightly.
Unfortunately, he was holding the man’s left arm. The man had the porcelain shard in his right hand. After shouting twice and seeing that Fang Anyu would not let go, he raised his hand and actually tried to slash Fang Anyu’s face—
In that rush, Jun Yueyue could not find anything useful at hand. There was a large ornamental cabbage on the counter, but when she tried, she could not lift it at all.
So she had no choice but to rush over bare-handed. Before the porcelain shard in the man’s hand could slash Fang Anyu’s completely unguarded face, she caught it with her bare hand.
The porcelain shard was extremely sharp. This was no different from catching a blade bare-handed. Jun Yueyue’s palm was instantly pierced, but the sharp pain did not make her hesitate for even a moment. With her other elbow, she struck the man’s funny bone. Then, without caring about the wound in her palm, she brought both hands together in a half-cupped shape and slammed them hard over both sides of the man’s ears.
When she had still been a mutated King Kong Barbie, this move could make someone bleed from the mouth and nose in one strike. But now, she was only a delicate, soft-bodied woman with weak strength, so the effect was very small.
But it was enough to make the man pause for a while. By then, Fang Anyan had also chased over. He had seen that dangerous scene just now as well. Seeing the man crouched on the ground holding his head, the look he gave Jun Yueyue was different.
Fang Anyan pinned the man down again. The wound on the back of his hand was very shallow, and the blood had already clotted. But Jun Yueyue’s injury from grabbing the shard bare-handed was not shallow. Blood was dripping from her fingertips onto the ground.
Fang Anyu finally reacted and hurriedly reached out anxiously to hold her hand. Jun Yueyue looked at his still tender, flawless face and let out a soft breath, then looked at him reproachfully.
A deaf-mute, yet he was quite brave. He dared to reach out no matter the situation… Jun Yueyue now regretted that after she had taken Fang Anyu to the mall and they had encountered that thief, she should have been like Fang Anyan and told him not to interfere if he encountered such things in the future, and to stay far away.
It had been too dangerous just now. If his face had really been cut, he was already disabled, and his face was his only capital. If he became disfigured too, even if he was very rich, would anyone still be with him in the future?
Fang Anyu held Jun Yueyue’s hand, his face full of helplessness. He ran to get some napkins, but after thinking for a moment, he used the softest inner side of his own shirt to press against Jun Yueyue’s wound.
The pure white was instantly stained bright red. Jun Yueyue watched his careful movements and did not pull her hand back. Instead, she let him hold it and looked toward Fang Anyan.
Fang Anyan had taken off his shirt and was tying the dazed man’s hands behind his back with it. Underneath, he was only wearing a vest. Jun Yueyue knew it was really inappropriate at this moment, but she still kind of wanted to whistle.
The male lead who stepped in when he saw injustice was much cuter than the tyrannosaurus who only knew how to lose his temper. And the muscles pressed tightly beneath his skin, as described in the plot, really did look good.
The man had been restrained, and they were blocking the doorway. Two groups of customers were frightened when they saw them. The restaurant owner’s wife helped the crying woman out, apologising and offering compensation with a forced smile. Her meaning was that she wanted them to wait for the police outside, otherwise business could not continue inside her restaurant.
Two older men who were eating there were also quite warm-hearted and argued with the owner’s wife for a couple of sentences. But since blood had been drawn, they did not want to make things difficult for her. In the end, Jun Yueyue and the others took the tied-up man and the woman who had been beaten outside to wait.
“Are you mute?” Jun Yueyue asked the beaten woman several questions, but after asking for a long time, the woman only went “ah, ah.”
The woman kept crying and opened her mouth for Jun Yueyue to see. Jun Yueyue glanced inside, then frowned fiercely. She turned to Fang Anyan and Jun Yu behind her and said, “Her tongue was cut…”
By now, the sky had completely darkened. Several people waited outside. The owner’s wife did pack up all the food they had ordered earlier and brought it out. She refused payment and also gave them soda, but no one had any appetite.
They waited for quite a while, but there was no sign of a police car. Jun Yueyue called the police again, and the other side only said officers had already been dispatched.
The night wind began to grow cold. There was a pharmacy not far from the restaurant, and Jun Yueyue and Fang Anyan took turns going to have their hands bandaged. They waited for another long while, long enough that the tied-up man had almost sobered up. He kept demanding that they release him, saying that his younger brother knew he was here and would soon bring people to beat them to death.
Jun Yueyue and the others only took it as a joke. They called the police again. The other side said they would check, then said they were almost there. But after waiting and waiting, the group never imagined that what arrived was not the police, but a damn crowd of burly men carrying hoes and pickaxe handles.
This was damn surreal!
And as soon as the leader arrived, he shouted “Brother!” from far away at the man they had tied up.
Damn it. Even television dramas would not dare act like this!
But then again, this was a novel. It could only prove that the author’s imagination and logic were not connected.
Jun Yueyue’s first reaction was to quickly push Jun Yu back into the restaurant. The owner’s wife had seen what was happening outside, but she did not show any surprise. Clearly, she had expected this long ago. Otherwise, she would not have compensated them and still insisted they go outside.
Seeing Jun Yueyue push Jun Yu in, she hesitated to speak. Jun Yueyue glared at her.
“Let her stay here! Otherwise, I’ll lead everyone into your shop!”
The owner’s wife immediately stopped talking. Jun Yueyue quickly went in, then quickly came out. As soon as she reached the entrance—
*Clang! Crash!*
The window of their car had been smashed by a pickaxe.
“You wait! The police will be here soon. I refuse to believe there’s no law anymore!” Fang Anyan was not afraid at all. At some point, he had picked up a piece of porcelain and was holding it against the tied-up man’s neck, facing off against the crowd. He looked very intimidating.
The woman who had been crying was extremely unprincipled. As soon as she saw people arrive, she immediately ran faster than anyone, darting into the woods and disappearing.
Fang Anyu stood beside Fang Anyan. He did not know what fear was. But when Jun Yueyue saw this scene, her scalp went a little numb with fear.
What kind of world was this novel world? She did not know. She only knew that the author was the rule. Whatever the author wrote became true.
In the novel, when these people went to meet Old Master Jun, this plot had not existed. But her transmigration was like the flapping of a butterfly’s wings… everything seemed to be deviating in an unpredictable direction.
For the moment, the group did not attack. They were afraid of the porcelain shard in Fang Anyan’s hand. They only waved the things in their hands to scare them and smash the car.
Jun Yueyue walked behind Fang Anyan and Fang Anyu, leaned close to Fang Anyan, and whispered, “I pushed Jun Yu into the restaurant kitchen. She’ll definitely be fine…”
Fang Anyan had originally been full of fierce momentum, looking ready to fight to the death. Jun Yueyue had thought persuading him to run would be difficult. Unexpectedly, as soon as she said Jun Yu was fine, Fang Anyan kicked the man he had been holding down hard, sending him flying toward the crowd. Then he turned, grabbed Fang Anyu and Jun Yueyue, and ran.
As he ran, he lowered his voice and shouted, “Why did you come out again?!”
When he had been facing off against that group earlier and had not run, it was because he had been buying time for Jun Yueyue and Jun Yu to escape.
For two weak women, hiding in the restaurant was indeed the best choice. No matter how deranged this group was, they would not actually charge into the restaurant to kill people. But Jun Yueyue did not belong in the category of weak women. If she really fought, even though this body was no good, the moves and tricks she had refined over years on the edge of life and death meant Fang Anyan might not necessarily be her match.
However, even a fierce tiger could not withstand a pack of wolves. A group of reckless men with weapons—if they did not run and chose to resist head-on, they would be idiots.
The so-called police who were “almost there” still had not appeared at all. The rural road was not very good. After running for a while, the ground turned to sand and dirt, and their speed suddenly slowed. Seeing that they were about to be caught, the three of them had no choice but to plunge into the woods beside them—
They ran quickly toward the depths of the woods. The people behind them had somehow produced flashlights, shining them like searchlights behind the three of them. Jun Yueyue was so angry she laughed. How had the idiot author written this brain-dead plot? Was this still a society governed by law?!
The three of them ran until they were gasping. They finally managed to shake the pursuers off, but before long, footsteps and shouting came close again, and the three of them sped up once more.
No one knew how far they had run when a small house appeared faintly ahead. Although the people behind them were still far away, judging by the sound, they were still chasing relentlessly. They had not planned to go near the small house, but when they saw the door light was on, the woman whose tongue had been cut—the one who had run off earlier—was waving at them and making muffled cries.
The door light illuminated a long distance. Ahead was no longer woods, but a flat open area. It was already too late for them to run back—
This woman was not trustworthy, but the three of them had now reached a dead end. Jun Yueyue did not doubt that the male lead Fang Anyan and female lead Jun Yu would be fine, but she and Fang Anyu were only supporting characters. It would be perfectly normal for them to get injured or die. So she would gamble. At worst, the ending would still be getting caught… and damn it, the police should be arriving soon too!
The three of them ran to the woman, and she quickly pulled them into the house. The house was broken-down and messy, with rubbish everywhere. The wooden board of an old bed had been lifted. The woman looked anxious, making muffled sounds and gesturing for the three of them to go inside.
Under the bed was a large storage space. A pile of old clothes had been placed at the bottom. The three of them crawled in and barely fit.
Not long after they hid, a group of people surrounded the house. As soon as they came in, they fiercely questioned the woman, asking where the three had gone, and slapped her.
The woman fell against the corner of the bed, crying and shaking her head nonstop. The group did not continue making things difficult for her. They cursed as they sent a few people out to search, while the rest shouted for the woman to cook, saying they wanted to drink.
The three of them were squeezed under the bed. No one knew how old the clothes inside were, but they gave off an extremely unpleasant stench.
Light from inside the room leaked through the cracks in the wooden bed boards. The group had all gone outside, pulling a light under the window and gathering around a table to drink. They cursed while drinking, insulting the three of them and bragging about how once they found them, they would kill all three and throw them into the cellar.
Outside, the sounds from inside the room could not be heard. The tense backs of the three people under the bed finally relaxed. Jun Yueyue was in the middle. Following the faint light that seeped in, she looked at Fang Anyu, then turned to look at Fang Anyan. Seeing blood on his face, she reached out to wipe it. Fang Anyan let out a soft hiss.
Jun Yueyue used a clean part of the inside of her sleeve to wipe the dirt around his wound, then turned back to look at Fang Anyu, only to meet his gaze.
In the dim, narrow space, with only a thin line of light coming through the bed boards, Fang Anyu’s eyes were difficult to describe in that instant.
Before Jun Yueyue could see clearly, a deafening police siren sounded outside.
The police quickly found the small house. The three were successfully rescued. They brought Jun Yu along as well, then found the owner’s wife and the customers who had not left the restaurant to act as witnesses. One by one, they gave statements. By midnight, the group finally walked out of the police station in a sorry state.
As for that woman, she was often beaten, and many people nearby had reported it before. But she had not been trafficked, and her tongue had not been cut by that man. They were actually in a normal marital relationship. For domestic violence, if the woman did not pursue the matter, it could only be handled as a family dispute.
The woman cried terribly, but when the police asked whether she wanted to pursue charges, she still shook her head.
The whole night had been terrifying, thrilling, and ultimately pointless. The front of the car had been smashed, and they still had four hundred li left before reaching their destination. It was now already midnight. Everyone was exhausted, and both Fang Anyan and Jun Yueyue were injured. They drove the car, leaking wind from all sides, out of this town, found an inn in the next town, and stayed there to rest for the time being.
The small inn was very shabby, but it was still fairly clean, though the bed was small. Jun Yueyue entered the room, quickly washed up, and collapsed onto the bed. In her heart, she decided that once they went back, she absolutely had to strengthen her training. If this were the apocalypse, those few mountain village thugs would have been beaten until their mothers would not recognise them with one hand. Covering herself with the slightly damp quilt that smelled of cheap laundry powder, she missed her King Kong Barbie physique and abilities for the first time.
Just as she was drifting off, Fang Anyu finished washing up and got into bed. First, he checked her hand. Jun Yueyue smiled at him and shook her head, indicating that she was fine, then closed her eyes again.
Fang Anyu, however, did not lie down. The little notebook had been lost, but the pen was still there. No one knew where he had found a newspaper. He wrote and scribbled in the blank spaces, then finally handed it to Jun Yueyue.
Do you like my younger brother very much?
Jun Yueyue was pushed awake in a daze. After reading it, she was completely confused.
Fang Anyu wrote on another piece—
Did you marry me because of him? And is it because of him that you decided to divorce me after we go back?
Jun Yueyue did not know why Fang Anyu was asking her this at a time like this. She took the pen and somewhat perfunctorily wrote—
No. It’s not. Don’t overthink it. Sleep.
Fang Anyu looked at those words. After a while, he wrote another sentence—
After you divorce me, will you marry him?
Jun Yueyue had now been poked awake twice and was extremely impatient. She snatched the newspaper with a rustle and wrote rapidly—
What nonsense is this?! Sleep!!!
The three exclamation marks deeply expressed her dissatisfaction at this moment. After Fang Anyu read it, he did not write anymore, but he also did not lie down. Instead, he sat there, thinking back on tonight, and then thinking back on everything that had happened since they got married.
His reactions were slow. The events of just over a month took him until past two in the morning to think through.
They had been married for a little over a month, but the earlier days took him less than an hour to think through. What he kept thinking about were only the things that had happened in the past three or four days.
There had been too many things, almost more than half a lifetime’s worth of experiences for him. They were new and exciting. Just thinking about them made him feel stirred up.
But… Fang Anyu looked at Jun Yueyue and thought about earlier that day by the car, when he had seen her pull his brother’s hand to hug herself. He thought of when they were under the bed tonight, and she had wiped his brother’s face… He even thought of all the many times before, every time she had taken the initiative to approach his brother.
Fang Anyu thought for a very, very long time. He did not know what exactly he had figured out. It was only that, halfway through the night, Jun Yueyue was pushed awake by him again.
The newspaper was handed over. Written on it with enough force to pierce the paper was one sentence—
If you marry my younger brother, will you still… do it with me?
This sentence was indeed a little… mm, overly stimulating. It wiped away more than half of Jun Yueyue’s sleepiness and anger at being woken up.
Fang Anyu’s morally unrestrained and inexplicable question made her unable to help laughing muffledly under the covers with her eyes closed.
But she had not laughed for long before Fang Anyu suddenly lifted the quilt. In the middle of the night, when even dogs were asleep, Jun Yueyue suddenly felt a mountain pressing down on her. Her breathing and laughter were both blocked back into her throat.
