Mu Wanwan remembered what that dragon had told her.
Mengmeng had awakened his intelligence, and his mind was roughly equivalent to that of a three-year-old child—
He could cry, laugh and become angry.
He knew how to act spoiled and throw tantrums.
He was enduring such pain simply because he did not want to see her disappear.
Still kneeling on the ground with the luminous liquid cupped in her hands, Mu Wanwan stared at Mengmeng as his eyes slowly closed. He was already in so much pain that he could no longer make a sound.
At that moment, her hatred for Ao Qin and Wu Yao reached its peak.
Gritting her teeth, she condensed her spiritual energy into a blade and forcefully severed her left hand, which was still holding the luminous liquid.
Ignoring the pain from her shattered bones, she used her right hand to pry open Mengmeng’s beak, attempting to make him spit everything out.
Bruises covered the corner of Ao Qin’s mouth as he violently slammed Uncle Chen into the ground.
He possessed numerous treasures, and his own strength was formidable. How could Uncle Chen, a mutated polar bear, possibly defeat such a ferocious dragon?
Ao Qin turned and met Mu Wanwan’s hate-filled gaze, smiling smugly.
“Ah, what a pity. Your husband is already dead. There is no one left to help you.”
As he spoke, he casually knocked Aunt Hua aside.
Looking at Mengmeng, who lay motionless on the ground as though he had already lost his life, he deliberately revealed a surprised expression.
“What’s this? Did the phoenix fledgling eat so much that it killed itself?”
“Fuck, these women are as irritating as a swarm of flies.”
Wu Yao punched Jiu Qing aside and spoke viciously. Raising an eyebrow, he said,
“Ao Qin, don’t kill that fledgling. I still have a use for it.”
“I know.”
Ao Qin was in such a pleasant mood that even Wu Yao’s attitude failed to anger him.
He looked down upon Mu Wanwan’s miserable appearance from above and felt the fury within his heart gradually fade—
This was how it should be.
This was how it was supposed to be.
He was the Dragon Clan’s one and only Sovereign.
He was the Dragon Clan’s strongest warrior.
So what if that orphaned dragon had once completely suppressed him?
The wife he loved was still about to die at Ao Qin’s hands.
Ao Qin could not resist transforming into his half-dragon form.
He had decided.
He would eat Mu Wanwan.
He would feel her blood splatter between his sharp teeth and carefully savour the fruit of his victory.
“Long live the Sovereign!”
The Grand Elder of the Golden Dragon Clan was the first to shout.
The dragons behind him immediately joined in, calling out one after another.
“Eat her! Eat her!”
Hai Ren and Chi Yan struggled painfully against the siege of numerous witches.
Moteng’s arm pierced straight through the chest of a blood puppet.
Jiu Qing and Uncle Chen were seriously injured and temporarily unable to stand.
Feng and Aunt Hua were equally powerless to intervene.
Mu Wanwan fearlessly met Ao Qin’s gaze.
His face was covered in scales, each one ten thousand times uglier than Mr. Dragon’s whenever he transformed.
Wind, rain, thunder and lightning howled around her.
Mixed within the storm was the heavy stench of blood that even the torrential rain could not wash away.
The excited dragon roars cheering and demanding that she be eaten intertwined to form a prelude to death.
However, the expected pain never arrived.
The earth trembled beneath her knees.
A blazing white light flickered before her eyes.
Mu Wanwan opened them and saw Mengmeng standing in front of her, his entire body engulfed in flames.
One of his skeletal wings seemed to have broken, and half of his body was covered in blood.
Ao Qin spat in disgust and expelled the burning Mengmeng from his mouth.
Mu Wanwan felt the abyss behind her tremble.
The raised platform collapsed.
Alongside the shattered stones, her entire body was thrown backwards without any ability to resist.
She watched as her remaining right arm gradually dissolved into motes of light.
Rain fell into her eyes.
Was this how her life would end?
The world seemed to suddenly cut out.
Everything became completely silent.
Just before she unwillingly closed her eyes, she seemed to see black brocade robes fluttering through the air.
An arm tightened around her waist, and warmth spread from her chest.
Mu Wanwan suddenly coughed.
Her senses returned to normal.
Beside her ear came the low, hoarse voice she knew better than any other, overflowing with tenderness that could not be concealed—
“Madam…”
Mu Wanwan’s eyes flew open.
She thought it was merely a final fantasy before death.
Her half-vanished right hand tightly clutched Mr. Dragon’s robes.
She stared at him in disbelief, looking at a face that was at once familiar and unfamiliar—
The curse marks were gone.
His brows were dark and thick, his eyes deep-set.
Beneath them were long, curling eyelashes and brilliant golden pupils.
His lips were somewhat thin, yet they were currently curved upwards.
He looked at her seriously and gently, as though…
He truly existed.
A tender kiss fell upon her lips.
The dragon who had survived countless dangers and been completely reborn gently pressed close to his most treasured person as they continued falling.
The flow of time within the inheritance grounds had been one hundred times faster than in the outside world.
After enduring nearly two hundred years of emptiness, he had then faced almost one hundred years on the verge of death.
During those days, when all his senses had nearly been sealed and he could perceive nothing, his body had begun disintegrating from the marrow outward.
Amid unbearable agony, he had been reborn.
Mr. Dragon lovingly stroked her long hair and kissed her tear-soaked eyelashes.
He had waited for far too long.
Far, far too long.
Throughout three hundred years of darkness, only his longing for her had allowed him to continue.
Fortunately, he had succeeded.
He could still see her again.
Merely holding her gently felt like embracing the only light within an endless night.
Little by little, it dispersed all the darkness.
The instant he saw her, he felt as though his heart, which had been dead for three hundred years, had begun beating once again.
“Mr. Dragon…”
The warmth radiating from his body was unmistakably real.
A nearly sobbing sound emerged from Mu Wanwan’s throat as she desperately bit her lip, trying not to cry in such an embarrassing manner—
Her dragon had returned.
As though he had descended from the heavens—
Her god.
