ATNMDT Chapter 51

Mr. Dragon waited for a very long time—long enough that cracks had begun to appear in his meridians.

Even the overburdened core inside his body was showing signs of instability.

He had been awake for far too long today and had exhausted too much energy.

“…”

Mr. Dragon’s face gradually turned pale. The speculations running through his mind were driving him to the brink of madness. He could barely wait any longer. If Mu Wanwan still did not return, perhaps he would have to go and look for her himself.

His gaze gradually dimmed. Even Mengmeng, who had the Spatial pouch hanging around its neck, had grown tired of being stared at. It probably thought this dragon was beyond saving. Since it did not dare rub against his ears, it could only lie on the table and nibble on the fruit of a first-rank Blue Star Grass that Mu Wanwan had left behind before going out.

After Mengmeng had eaten its fill, it did not forget the spirit-chicken chicks in the courtyard. Holding the leftover fruit peel in its beak, it slowly took advantage of a certain dragon’s refusal to pay it any attention and secretly jumped out through the window Mu Wanwan had left open for ventilation.

Mengmeng delivered the fruit peel to the cage containing the spirit-chicken chicks and chirped to express its loving generosity.

Quite a lot of sticky fruit juice had gotten all over its increasingly round little body, and it had also made a complete mess of the chicken cage. It would be a miracle if Mu Wanwan did not give it a loving “pat” when she returned.

However, Mengmeng was extremely proud of itself. It did not look down on the three tender-yellow spirit-chicken chicks at all. Its large, glossy black eyes blinked as it glanced at the closed bedroom door and then at the chicks fighting over the fruit peel.

It decisively chose to stay outside in the courtyard and keep them company.

Thus, after Mu Wanwan said goodbye to Hongye and pushed open the courtyard gate, what she saw was a certain fluffy chirper squeezed inside the cage with three tender-yellow spirit-chicken chicks. All four of them were filthy, covered from head to toe in fruit juice and mud.

Mu Wanwan: “…”

This little chirper was becoming increasingly bold.

Feeling helpless, she shut the courtyard gate behind her. “Mengmeng, why did you run out here?”

Her voice was not loud, but it was more than enough to make Mr. Dragon, who was about to turn into a stone statue waiting for his wife, tremble all over—

His wife was back.

Wonderful.

Nothing had happened to her.

These thoughts flashed rapidly through Mr. Dragon’s mind, and his heart, which had remained tightly clenched, finally relaxed. Enduring the pain, he quickly lay flat again.

As long as his wife was safe.

The next time he woke up, he would use his spiritual sense to take a proper look at her.

Mr. Dragon’s fingers brushed against the slightly cool bedsheet. His raven-black eyelashes trembled as he closed his eyes.

Mu Wanwan pulled the fluffy chirper out from the pile of spirit chickens.

Mengmeng’s feathers were much fluffier than when she had first picked it up. Since it was still a chick, its feathers were also extremely soft. For a while, Mu Wanwan had thought it had grown fat.

However, after giving it a bath last time, Mu Wanwan had realised that her fluffy chirper was not fat. It was simply fluffy. *(:з」∠)*

Mengmeng was usually a very clean little chirper and generally maintained its plump and adorable appearance. Yet today, its tiny scarf was suddenly smeared with an entire layer of sticky mud…

Huh?

Why was there something tied to its little scarf?

Mu Wanwan glanced at the moderately sized, mud-covered object hanging around Mengmeng’s neck and sighed. Cradling Mengmeng in her hands, she returned to the room.

Mr. Dragon was still lying there perfectly well, and everything at home appeared peaceful.

She placed Mengmeng on the table and set down her basket. Only then did she have the attention to spare for the object hanging around Mengmeng’s neck.

It had been attached to the fluffy chirper’s little scarf with a thin thread. Carefully avoiding hurting Mengmeng’s head, Mu Wanwan removed the object, which was less than half the size of her palm—

It was a…

Spatial pouch?

It looked very similar to the one Uncle Zong had given her.

Mu Wanwan tentatively sent a trace of spiritual energy into it, but nothing happened. Refusing to give up, she tried several more times, yet there was still no reaction.

Could this cloth pouch merely resemble a Spatial pouch?

“Chirp, chirp!”

Mengmeng rubbed its dirty head against Mu Wanwan’s hand. Its little wings trembled as it prepared to leap towards the bed where Mr. Dragon was lying.

Mu Wanwan put down the Spatial pouch that Mr. Dragon had worked so hard to obtain, believing it to be some piece of rubbish Mengmeng had picked up from somewhere…

Please forgive Wanwan, an inexperienced modern person, for not only failing to recognise a mid-grade Spatial pouch, but also having no idea how to bind it to herself…

Meanwhile, Mr. Dragon had been completely preoccupied with imagining his wife’s smiling face when she received the gift. He had not given such issues much thought.

And so, the gift he had gone to such trouble to rob from someone was placed inside Mengmeng’s nest as though it were merely a toy the little chirper had picked up.

Mu Wanwan washed the fluffy chirper, cleaned the spirit-chicken chicks’ cage, sorted the things she had bought, completed the household chores, and prepared dinner.

The weather was growing colder and colder. Cooking was still manageable, but whenever she washed clothes, her hands ended up looking like little red carrots. Therefore, Mu Wanwan had started setting aside the things that needed washing and doing them all together at midday.

She had returned late today. After cultivating several second-rank Blue Star Grass plants for Mr. Dragon’s rations, she already felt exhausted. She went to the study and copied out the pill formulas Uncle Zong had given her—

The ingredients for a first-rank Spirit-Recovery Pill were a first-rank Spirit-Recovery Fruit, Bell-Lantern Grass, and Purifying Flowers.

The Spirit-Recovery Fruit was the main ingredient. The Purifying Flower was used to refine the pill and remove impurities, while the Bell-Lantern Grass improved the pill’s quality and effectiveness.

The ingredients for a first-rank Blood-Coagulating Pill were much more complicated. It also required Purifying Flowers and Bell-Lantern Grass, but its main ingredient was a second-rank plant—

Snow Condensation.

This type of spiritual plant naturally grew in cold places and was not particularly abundant. Furthermore, the higher the rank of the Snow Condensation, the more likely it was to be guarded by numerous high-ranking demonic beasts. Lower-ranked plants, however, were not especially difficult to obtain.

It was also extremely difficult to cultivate artificially. This time, Mu Wanwan only had fifty Snow Condensation seeds in her possession.

The Snow Condensation Pill had only one function: it could provide high-quality treatment and remove certain negative effects. The higher its rank, the more effective it was, and its effect on members of the demon race was doubled.

At first glance, it did not seem as useful as the Spirit-Recovery Pill, which restored spiritual energy. However, after thinking about it carefully, one would understand the importance of the Snow Condensation Pill.

Suppose two cultivators of similar strength were exploring outside. When their spiritual energy was nearly exhausted, they were both bitten by venomous snakes.

One cultivator took a Spirit-Recovery Pill. That cultivator would recover some spiritual energy and could use it to resist the snake venom inside their body. However, once the effects of the pill ran out, if the poison had not been completely expelled, they might still die.

The cultivator who took the Snow Condensation Pill would not recover much spiritual energy, but the pill could completely expel the poison from their body. As long as they were not bitten again, they would generally survive.

Overall, the Snow Condensation Pill was probably like a versatile antidote combined with an HP-restoring potion, Mu Wanwan thought.

After copying the pill formulas, she had more or less figured out which ingredients were required. She rubbed her forehead, completed the cleaning routine for her entire household—herself, the fluffy chirper, and Mr. Dragon—and prepared to sleep.

She was extremely tired today, mainly mentally exhausted. Starting tomorrow, she would have another pile of new matters to handle, so she wanted to rest early.

Mu Wanwan straightened the bed, then suddenly noticed that the folded corner of Mr. Dragon’s quilt had moved.

Because she was worried that Mr. Dragon’s tail might get cold, she always folded his quilt carefully. Today, however, it looked as though someone had lifted it.

Mu Wanwan’s heart jumped. She had not noticed this detail when she first returned. Could someone have come and bullied Mr. Dragon while she was away?

The thought made Mu Wanwan anxious, and she immediately lifted Mr. Dragon’s quilt—

His upper body was still dressed in the clothes she had changed him into after his last bath. There were no traces of blood. His tail was also fine. A new layer of scales had grown, and some of the withered yellow scales were nearly finished falling off.

Compared with Little Mr. Dragon’s tail, the tip was less fluffy. It was bald, ugly, considerably thicker, and much larger.

However, it looked far better than the miserable condition it had been in when she first met him.

Mu Wanwan sighed in relief. She gently touched the cold scales. There were no wounds, so he should be fine.

She looked at Mr. Dragon’s strangely handsome face, reached out to stroke his furry ears, and tucked the quilt around him again.

“Chirp~”

Mengmeng had almost fallen asleep, but when it saw Mu Wanwan return, it climbed back up. Flapping its tiny wings with all its strength, it desperately tried to jump onto the bed.

It could not endure it any longer! It wanted to expose the evil dragon’s behaviour.

Mu Wanwan had no idea what it wanted. She watched as it pointed at the object inside its nest, then repeatedly pointed towards Mr. Dragon lying on the bed, chirping with all its might.

“Do you want to rub against his ears?” Mu Wanwan assumed that the fluffy chirper wanted to rub against Mr. Dragon’s ears. After thinking about it, she decided to satisfy her little chirper and carried it to the bedside.

However, the fluffy chirper merely rubbed against Mr. Dragon’s ear with exceptional restraint before beginning to stomp forcefully on his face. =_=!

Mu Wanwan sighed and patted Mengmeng’s head. “Stop making trouble.”

Mengmeng felt wronged.

Mengmeng did not want to speak.

Mengmeng turned its bottom towards Mu Wanwan.

Mu Wanwan: “…”

She was exhausted.

After she extinguished the light, the room instantly fell into darkness. Mu Wanwan lay down and softly said, “Good night, Mr. Dragon. Good night, Mengmeng.”

She soon fell asleep, and the room became quiet.

Approximately two or three hours later, Mr. Dragon woke up.

He blinked lightly. Considering that his dazzling golden eyes had frightened his wife into tears the last time, his eye colour remained normal this time.

Nevertheless, he fastidiously concealed the ugly black-and-red patterns on his face and his broken horn. As for the tail on his lower body, he considered it briefly before shyly transforming it into a pair of legs.

Although he was not wearing any clothes beneath the quilt…

She probably would not know.

Mr. Dragon, this shameless dragon, slowly and gently turned over.

His night vision was excellent. After turning around, he happened to have a clear view of Mu Wanwan’s peaceful sleeping posture.

She was wrapped tightly in her quilt, and faint shadows lingered beneath her eyes. She must have been too exhausted recently.

A trace of bitterness rose in his heart. Mr. Dragon thought about how his wife earned money. He had seen everything clearly.

Ever since she had married him, all the way until now.

She had never eaten anything particularly good or worn beautiful clothes. Every day, she performed tedious and repetitive work, yet she had never complained or expressed disgust towards him.

However, now that she had the things he had robbed, she should be able to live a little better.

Mr. Dragon thought that after some more time had passed and he had recovered, he would go outside and retrieve all sorts of treasures for her.

The expressionless dragon stared at his wife’s face without any change in his features. The darkness of the night concealed his gradually reddening cheeks.

That was right.

The green-jade bracelet he had asked the fluffy chirper to deliver to her—he wanted to touch it.

Although his wife did not know it had come from him, in Mr. Dragon’s heart, if Mu Wanwan wore it, that meant she had accepted him. From then on, she would have to remain with him forever, completely bound to him.

Secretly, a warm hand slipped into Mu Wanwan’s quilt and carefully felt for the bracelet on her wrist.

Hm?

Why was it not there?

Mr. Dragon sensed that something was wrong. He extended his spiritual sense and discovered the mid-grade Spatial pouch inside the nest where Mengmeng was sleeping soundly.

Mr. Dragon: “…”

The dragon had to remain calm!

His raven-black eyelashes trembled before he finally realised the reason—

He had forgotten that binding a mid-grade Spatial pouch was not like binding a low-grade one, which only required spiritual energy. It had to be bound using spiritual sense or a drop of blood.

His wife probably did not know that.

Mr. Dragon calmly thought for a moment. Releasing his spiritual energy, he gently rolled the fluffy chirper over and took the Spatial pouch into his hand.

Good.

The next step was to obtain his wife’s blood.

Moving gently, he lifted one of Mu Wanwan’s arms and very carefully separated out a thin strand of spiritual energy. Like a needle, it pricked the tip of Mu Wanwan’s finger.

Bright-red blood slowly emerged.

Mr. Dragon frowned painfully. He quickly collected one drop of blood and dripped it onto the Spatial pouch. Without even waiting to see whether the binding had succeeded, he bent down, placed her fingertip inside his mouth, and gently licked it.

A dragon’s saliva could accelerate the healing of wounds.

He swore that he had not been thinking about anything improper while doing this.

However, after he finished licking it, he suddenly felt that something was wrong.

The entire dragon nearly burst into flames.

Mu Wanwan was not completely unconscious. She felt as though someone was moving her arm. Her fingertip felt warm, as though it had been submerged in something soft and heated.

Subconsciously, she moved her finger…

**Author’s Note:**

Mr. Dragon, blushing as fireworks exploded inside his mind: “Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?”

The speaking version of the large fluffy chirper Mengmeng (→_→): “You are a licking dragon. You are on the bed. You are licking your wife. Hah. What a shameless dragon.”

**Nomad:  If you’re wondering why the jade hairpin turned into a bracelet, I don’t know either. I’ve decided to stick with whatever the raws call it in each chapter.**
