As her hearing gradually recovered, Mu Wanwan clutched the Azure Dragon communication token and waited for a long time before finally hearing Ao Qin issue an angry and helpless order to retreat.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
They should be safe for the time being.
When she looked back, she could no longer see the shadow of any person or dragon. Below them lay only layer upon layer of clouds.
Mr. Dragon was flying extremely quickly, and she no longer had any idea where they were.
Mu Wanwan carefully put away the communication token. A wave of dizziness struck her, accompanied by an indescribable pain in her chest and back.
She wiped the blood from her cheek and shook her head, attempting to ignore the abnormal pain throughout her body.
They had only just escaped, and Mr. Dragon had lost so many scales. She needed to take out their stock of medicinal pills as quickly as possible.
Supporting herself against his furry ear, Mu Wanwan stood up.
She looked at the tiny medicine bottle in her hand, then lowered her gaze towards the enlarged Mr. Dragon beneath her. Each of his scales was larger than her foot.
Her stomach churned.
She had encountered a new problem.
How was she supposed to feed medicinal pills to such an enormous Mr. Dragon?
Before she could remain confused for long, the world before her suddenly brightened.
They seemed to have left the region covered by dense storm clouds. After flying to such a great height, only wisps of mist remained within her field of vision, and faint rays of sunlight could be seen filtering down.
Mr. Dragon continued flying rapidly.
His long, low dragon cry sounded beside her ears, making Mu Wanwan feel for a moment as though her dreams had merged with reality.
His body suddenly tilted.
Mu Wanwan hurriedly tightened one hand around the medicine bottle while gripping his ear with the other.
However, that ear was also shrinking rapidly.
She lost her balance and fell sideways, still enclosed within the spiritual barrier.
Pale mist slipped in through the edges of the barrier. The cool, damp sensation made Mu Wanwan shiver.
The feeling of weightlessness became unmistakable.
She fell from the top of Mr. Dragon’s head, her eyes remaining open as she watched him rapidly shrink.
His beautiful scales were golden-white, although most of them were now gold, with very little white remaining.
His enormous pupils were golden, and his broken horn emitted a lustrous glow.
He looked both fierce and magnificent.
A dazzling light flashed before her.
Mu Wanwan instinctively closed her eyes.
She heard the wind being torn apart, then felt an arm wrap firmly around her waist.
The wind that had been painfully striking her face disappeared.
When she opened her eyes again, she met Mr. Dragon’s long phoenix eyes.
He did not look well.
Both his face and lips were pale. His gaze remained fixed upon her cheek, and his expression was terrifyingly dark.
The broken horn on his forehead continued emitting a gentle light.
Mu Wanwan noticed a large, dark patch of blood soaking the front of his pale-black robes.
“You’re injured.”
His thin lips moved as though he were saying something, but Mu Wanwan still could not hear clearly.
She could only see that his lips were pressed into a tight line, as though he were suppressing tremendous fury.
She wanted to embrace him but was afraid of pressing against his wounds.
This dragon had been constantly injured from the moment she met him until now.
Mu Wanwan noticed the blood on his chest but failed to realise that her own pale-blue dress was already covered in bloodstains.
The shock waves from the battle had injured far more than merely her ears.
Blood slowly spilled from the corner of her lips and fell onto her dress.
To Mr. Dragon, it resembled the edge of a curling blade, stabbing fiercely into his heart and carving a deep scar.
Mu Wanwan thought the dragon’s long eyelashes had once again been soaked by rain.
Drops of water clung to them.
He was crying again.
He resembled a little dragon cub who had never grown up, whimpering pitifully.
Yet his gaze was dark and terrifying.
Dense killing intent and coldness radiated from his body, while blood-red light reflected within his pupils.
Was he worried about her?
She was fine.
She truly was fine.
They had only just managed to escape. Seeing Mr. Dragon looking as though he might turn around at any moment and tear the Golden Dragons apart with his bare hands, Mu Wanwan anxiously straightened herself and rested her head against his shoulder.
“I’m fine…”
Her throat was also injured, and she could not properly speak.
She could only look up at him anxiously, trying to show the foolish dragon that she truly was all right.
She then raised the medicine bottle in her hand, signalling for him to hurry and take some pills.
He had lost so many scales. It must have hurt terribly.
She was beginning to feel sleepy.
She wanted to close her eyes.
She did not want to awaken this time only to return to the monotonous life of tending to a vegetative dragon…
“Madam…”
Mr. Dragon’s voice was hoarse.
As he watched Mu Wanwan’s eyes gradually close, indescribable fury and killing intent surged through his heart.
“Ao Qin. The dragon clan.”
Coldness spread across Mr. Dragon’s lips.
He could no longer control his emotions. The previously peaceful sea of clouds began churning as dark storm clouds gathered.
He held the person he cherished most in his entire life within his arms.
He resembled the master of heaven and earth.
The proud and solitary ruler stood amid endless darkness.
None of the gentleness and patience he displayed only before her remained. His handsome, pale face held nothing but bone-chilling indifference.
…
By the time Mu Wanwan regained some awareness, they had already arrived somewhere new.
“Chirp~”
Mengmeng’s voice sounded clearly beside her ear.
Mu Wanwan abruptly opened her eyes and found herself staring directly at a plump little crest feather.
She immediately woke up.
Rubbing her eyes, she sat upright.
Her body no longer hurt, and her hearing had returned to normal.
She briefly examined her surroundings.
They were currently inside a small cave, but Mr. Dragon was nowhere to be seen.
Mu Wanwan inspected her dantian and discovered that her spiritual energy was considerably more abundant than before. Her golden core had also grown much larger.
She seemed close to another breakthrough.
The Azure Dragon communication token had been placed beside her.
When Mu Wanwan examined it, she discovered that Mr. Dragon had temporarily bound it to himself.
She must have been unconscious for quite some time.
“Chirp!”
The little feather ball was visibly excited.
The moment it saw her awaken, it launched itself into her arms like a tiny cannonball.
Mu Wanwan’s face turned pale from the impact.
She pulled Mengmeng away and only then realised that her clothes had been changed.
She was wearing black robes that clearly did not fit her.
Many of Mengmeng’s feathers clung to them, and it was obvious at a glance that they belonged to Mr. Dragon.
Her face grew slightly warm.
Mu Wanwan rubbed the little bird that had enthusiastically thrown itself into her arms, then lowered her head and pulled open the collar.
Even her undergarments had been changed.
Fortunately, those belonged to her.
Her underwear had not been changed.
Mu Wanwan’s earlobes burned.
Since this dragon had access to her clothes, why had he made her wear his robes instead of her own?
Although they had already been married for quite a long time…
Mu Wanwan forced herself to calm down and lifted Mengmeng.
She had been lying on soft bedding, but this bird had recently been moulting severely. It could not be allowed to remain on the bed.
A pair of slippers had been placed on the ground.
Had Mr. Dragon left them there for her?
She put them on and began examining the cave while stroking Mengmeng until it chirped repeatedly.
Only then did Mu Wanwan discover that the “bed” she had been sleeping upon was not truly a bed.
It was an enormous pink seashell with its lid open.
Curious, Mu Wanwan lifted the quilts covering it.
Beneath several thick layers of bedding, she discovered neatly arranged rows of gold bars.
Mu Wanwan: “…?”
What sort of bizarre arrangement was this?
Had she awakened in the wrong position?
Rubbing her head, Mu Wanwan carefully examined the entire cave.
It appeared to be a temporary residence Mr. Dragon had arranged. Many of the objects were new, and the shell did not appear to have been left there for very long.
Beside the shell bed stood several pieces of jade furniture she had previously seen inside the mustard-seed space.
Each piece had been positioned according to the arrangement of their former bedroom in the palace.
However, because the cave had limited space, the various pieces of furniture looked rather mismatched when placed together.
Warmth filled Mu Wanwan’s heart.
She blinked and asked softly:
“Mengmeng, do you think Mr. Dragon is good?”
“Chirp—!”
He was terrible.
That dragon was completely terrible.
“Chirp, chirp-chirp~!”
Mengmeng had seen everything.
While Wanwan was asleep, he had secretly kissed her and even changed her clothes!
Mu Wanwan looked at Mengmeng’s wide eyes as it eagerly reported Mr. Dragon’s misdeeds.
Amused, she placed the chubby bird on the ground.
They had already been married for more than two months. Logically speaking, even their honeymoon period should have ended by now.
Yet she and Mr. Dragon were still at the stage where simply holding hands was enough to satisfy them…
Mu Wanwan suddenly wondered whether she was being a little cowardly.
She decided that when the dragon returned, she would kiss him properly for a while and demonstrate her courage as an adult.
The structure of the cave was somewhat unusual.
It looked as though someone had excavated it, and the entrance could not be seen directly. She needed to turn several corners to reach it.
Wearing Mr. Dragon’s robes, Mu Wanwan walked for several dozen seconds, her oversized sleeves swinging beside her.
After pushing aside several brightly coloured curtains, she finally reached the mouth of the cave.
The instant she saw what lay outside, she could not resist closing her eyes and opening them again.
A thin barrier of light separated the cave from the outside world.
It also held back the seawater and the countless fish swimming past her.
Unable to restrain herself, Mu Wanwan extended one finger through the barrier.
Ripples spread across its surface.
Her finger was met by strong water pressure and a damp sensation.
Had Mr. Dragon brought her to the bottom of the sea?
But why was it so bright underwater?
Mu Wanwan lowered her gaze.
Patches of light in various shades shimmered across the sandy ground outside the cave.
Nevertheless, the fish all possessed the distinctive features of deep-sea creatures.
They were extremely ugly.
Mu Wanwan watched as a bizarre fish covered in sharp teeth swam past the cave, only to be sliced into pieces of raw fish directly before her.
Mu Wanwan: “…”
A pale, slender hand moved through the seawater and disdainfully swept the ugly pieces of fish aside.
Mr. Dragon’s upper body was bare.
The dragon horn and furry ears on his head had been withdrawn, while his lower body consisted of a long dragon tail.
This was the first time Mu Wanwan had seen him tie up his long hair.
Its ends floated through the water behind him, although he had deliberately left two strands loose beside his face to conceal some of the curse marks that had not completely faded.
He was clearly a dragon cub who knew how to make himself look presentable.
The wound on his chest had already healed.
Through the water, Mu Wanwan could only see faint scars across his lean, powerful waist.
He held a bulging Spatial pouch in one hand. She could not tell what was inside it.
Mr. Dragon’s indifferent gaze swept towards her.
The instant he saw her, brilliant golden light appeared within his ink-black eyes.
Mu Wanwan watched his dragon tail—missing its pointed tip—swing through the water.
Like a beautiful merman dragon cutting through the waves, he reached her side in an instant.
