MDMSC Chapter 22

Got It!

Jun Yueyue failed to get the money.

She had originally prepared herself to make a scene, but now the one who should be making a scene was not her. Caught off guard, she could only temporarily withdraw.

Only Jun Yu and Old Master Jun were left in the room. Old Master Jun really had been angered by Jun Yueyue. After taking a while to calm down, he walked over to Jun Yu and reached out to stroke her head.

Jun Yu was sobbing so hard she kept choking. She was disabled. If she lost what she relied on, how was she supposed to live in the future?

She did not understand. Grandfather had always favoured her. Everyone knew that. But why?

Jun Yu raised her face. She really was very delicate and pretty. After all, she was the female lead. Even with plain, watery hair, no makeup on her face, and clothes without any bright or fancy colours, she was still beautiful. She gave off a pure impression, like a little white flower that should be kept under a glass dome. She was exactly the type that most easily stirred up people’s desire to protect her. In a certain sense, she and Fang Anyu were the same. They were both naturally the kind of people who should be cherished in the palm of someone’s hand.

Especially when she was crying like this. Old Master Jun had doted on her since she was little. Seeing her so upset, his heart ached terribly.

“Why, Grandfather?” Old Master Jun only looked at her with teary eyes and did not speak. In the end, Jun Yu could not help asking.

Old Master Jun sighed. “Yu’er, you’ve been clever since you were young. Do you really not understand?”

Jun Yu cried even harder. Tears rolled down her cheeks and fell with little splashes. “Is it because… I didn’t pass Grandfather’s test?”

Old Master Jun did not answer. He only stroked her head again. “Although your sister did many bastard things before, she has always protected you too, hasn’t she? In the future, she will protect you as well.”

But Jun Yu still did not understand. What exactly had she done wrong? She had always been very obedient. Just as Grandfather had told her, she had never held grudges against her sister, and she would tolerate her in the future too…

“I don’t understand,” Jun Yu said. “Grandfather, I really don’t understand.”

She was crying very badly now and had started hiccupping. Some strands of her long black hair were wet with tears and stuck to her pale face, making her look even more fragile and helpless. No one could refuse a girl like this, especially not an elder who had favoured her since childhood because she could not run like an ordinary child.

Old Master Jun was so heartbroken that he could not help shedding old tears too. But principles and bottom lines were things that could not be ignored.

Jun Yu had been clever, well-behaved, sensible, and obedient since childhood. Even though she could not run and jump like normal children, that had never affected how much her elders loved her.

Moreover, in a family like the Jun family, being unable to stand and walk on both legs did not actually have much impact. The person in power in the Jun family did not need to be able to leap over roofs and vault over walls. They did not even need to be able to walk. As long as they met the standard of family head, she could become the one in charge of the Jun family.

Unfortunately, the Jun couple both had short lives. They had not even outlived an old man like him. They had passed away from illness one after the other, leaving behind only two daughters in their lifetime.

Women always suffered disadvantages in many matters in the business world. This was especially true for someone like Jun Yu, who had limited mobility and a temperament that was too soft. She needed to find a marriage partner with both methods and bottom lines, someone who could support her.

The Fang family was undoubtedly a very good choice. Fang Anyan’s ability was obvious to everyone in their circle, and Old Master Jun admired him very much.

Both girls liked Fang Anyan. Originally, Old Master Jun had not thought much of that. Love between men and women could be deep if one called it deep, and shallow if one called it shallow.

Using it as a way to test both girls’ abilities was not bad either. Whether in business or in love, the capable one would obtain it.

But his eldest granddaughter had always been rebellious. She had made a group of disreputable friends and was always doing excessive things, disappointing Old Master Jun again and again. Jun Yu, on the other hand, remained as obedient and sensible as ever. She was also naturally the kind of child who inspired affection. The scales in Old Master Jun’s heart gradually tilted, until he even began to indulge the original Jun Yue’s nonsense and agreed to let her marry Fang Anyu.

Old Master Jun had carefully investigated Fang Anyan’s character. He knew that once his eldest granddaughter married Fang Anyu, there would truly be no possibility between Fang Anyan and her.

He had been favouring this younger granddaughter of his, who had been unable to walk since childhood. He had also been thoroughly disappointed in his eldest granddaughter. That was why this absurd contractual marriage had happened.

It solved the Fang family’s urgent crisis, but also kept the Fang family hanging, allowing Fang Anyan to see the benefits of marrying into the Jun family, so that he would choose his younger granddaughter.

As an elder, Old Master Jun had condemned himself countless times in his heart. He knew he should not treat the younger generation so unequally. But he had always believed that Jun Yu was a good child. After she took control of the Jun family in the future, she would definitely treat her sister well.

Originally, the shares he was giving Jun Yu today were supposed to have been given to the original Jun Yue.

But Jun Yueyue’s transmigration was like the wings of a butterfly, gently fluttering and gradually causing the plot to deviate.

The eldest granddaughter who had always disappointed people suddenly began to become normal. She had even passed the final and most important test for the heirs ahead of time.

Meanwhile, Jun Yu, who had always been obedient and sensible, disappointed Old Master Jun at the final hurdle.

Faced with Jun Yu’s confusion, Old Master Jun only shook his head and sighed after a long while. “Grandfather is old. What I hope for most is not anything else. The Jun family has reached this point now. Even if it gradually declines in the future, it will still be enough for you sisters to live a wealthy and worry-free life until old age.”

Old Master Jun said, “What Grandfather cares about most is the two of you sisters. When one day I am no longer here, I hope you can support each other through the rest of your lives.”

“Yu’er, a person’s life is very short, but also very long. No one knows what will happen in the future. But the two of you sisters must hold on to each other in order to walk more smoothly in the years ahead,” Old Master Jun said. “Because of the favouritism from your parents and me when you were young, your sister became more and more rebellious and did many bastard things. But fundamentally, we were the ones at fault.”

“But this time, she did not act like a bastard. Along the way, your sister was protecting you. Yu’er, you felt that, didn’t you?” Old Master Jun sighed. “I never expected that I would still be able to see the day she finally became sensible.”

“Grandfather…” Jun Yu had stopped crying, but her eyes were swollen beyond recognition. She still did not understand, and her face was full of confusion.

Old Master Jun pushed her to the window. The grandfather and granddaughter looked downstairs together. There was no one in the courtyard, only vegetables and greenery growing wildly everywhere.

Old Master Jun looked out the window. Jun Yu looked at Old Master Jun through the reflection in the glass.

The two of them stayed silent like this for a while before Old Master Jun finally said, “On the way to Qiuhai City, you encountered an accident. That incident was originally a test of Fang Anyan’s character.”

“His actions were exactly as I expected. He had youthful spirit, kindness, and courage. But what I did not expect was that when something happened, the first person your sister considered was you.”

Jun Yu remembered that day when Jun Yueyue had pushed her into the back kitchen and had even asked the cooks in the kitchen to look after her…

After pausing for a while, Old Master Jun continued, “Actually, the real test began from that bus. The auntie I asked you to visit was fake. That bus and everyone on it were people Grandfather had arranged.”

Jun Yu looked at Old Master Jun in shock through the reflection in the glass. Old Master Jun pursed his lips and said, “Aside from the pregnant woman, who was an accident, everything else was arranged by me.”

“Yu’er, those two women who got on halfway were making things difficult for you from the beginning. You’re so clever, so you must have sensed something was wrong.” Old Master Jun sighed deeply. “You are disabled. No one could force you to give up your seat. No one could morally blackmail you. Grandfather could not bear to let you be criticised. But when your sister was being bullied, why didn’t you help her…”

Jun Yu came back to herself from the shock and met Old Master Jun’s eyes through the glass window. The tears that had already stopped suddenly surged out again.

Old Master Jun could not bear it. Jun Yu cried for a while before saying aggrievedly, “Grandfather, I’m disabled. How could I help Sister? Sister was very fierce at the time. That woman didn’t manage to bully her…”

“Yu’er.” Old Master Jun’s voice grew heavier. There was no intention of scolding in it, but Jun Yu instantly trembled. Since childhood, her family had rarely spoken to her in such a heavy tone.

“I am not blaming you for not being able to help your sister. Of course Grandfather knows your health is poor. But you are sisters. Under those circumstances, you did not even say a single word,” Old Master Jun said, meeting Jun Yu’s tearful gaze. “You also did not ask Fang Anyan, who was beside you, to help her. Yu’er, even that deaf-mute knew to protect your sister…”

Jun Yu had already started crying out loud. She felt unbearably wronged. So the bus had been a test. So the one being tested had not been her sister, but her.

But she was only disabled… At the time, she…

Jun Yu lifted her head and looked at her own reflection in the glass window. Her eyes were terribly swollen, and she looked especially ugly from crying. Outside, it had started raining at some unknown point. Raindrops hit the glass window and turned into streams of water, cutting her face into several pieces. She looked especially ugly, as ugly as her own twisted heart.

So ugly.

Why had she not spoken back then?

She had promised Grandfather she would never hold a grudge against her sister, but deep down, she had still resented her. She had resented her sister for always loving to snatch her things since childhood…

Jun Yu moved her gaze away from the glass window. She did not want to see her ugly self, just as she did not want to see her ugly heart.

She knew she had done wrong, but she still felt wronged. Was it just because of this one thing, just because she had not said a word for her sister under those circumstances, that she had to lose the support she would rely on for the rest of her life?

Old Master Jun had watched Jun Yu grow up. Of course he could see that although Jun Yu had realised her mistake, she was still unwilling in her heart.

So Old Master Jun hardened his heart and said one more thing. “Yu’er, along the way, do you remember that your sister had an injury in her palm? The fingers are connected to the heart. The wound in her palm nearly went straight through…”

Old Master Jun did not say the rest.

Jun Yu burst into loud sobs.

She knew where she had lost, and she accepted the loss wholeheartedly.

Her sister had carried that kind of injury, yet when danger appeared, the first thing she did was hide Jun Yu away. And afterwards, along the road, who knew how many times her sister had used that injured hand to support her? Even yesterday, when they ran into those hooligans on the road, the moment her sister got out of the car, she had locked the doors and told Jun Yu to lie down in the car and not move.

Although her sister had looked very abnormal at the time, as long as they were together on the road, she had never once forgotten to take care of her. She had even helped create opportunities for Jun Yu and Fang Anyan. Tonight, when Grandfather announced the final result, her sister had also said that she would give everything to her…

Once the result had already been announced, there was no longer any need to pretend. So the words her sister had said at the end, and the tears she had wiped away for Jun Yu with her injured hand, were all real…

The one with the ugly thoughts was her. The one who had always held grudges in her heart was her. The one who had never felt that everything should belong to her sister was also her.

Jun Yu had never cried like this before. Staring at her own distorted crying face in the glass, she had never seen herself so clearly for even a single moment. She had always felt that everything was only natural. Her eyes had always seen only her disabled legs, yet only now did she realise that what was truly disabled was her heart.

Jun Yu cried for a very, very long time. Old Master Jun stayed with her the whole time, his heart aching terribly.

By contrast, after Jun Yueyue came out of Old Master Jun’s study with a completely bewildered face, she returned to her bedroom with that same bewildered face. Her mind was in a mess. She did not even have the interest to reply when Fang Anyu spoke to her. Her mind was filled with only one thought—

It was over. Her money was gone.

A huge sum of money!

She only wanted ready cash. She did not want some bullshit plot of land!

She did not want the Jun family business either. That was a burden heavier than a mountain. And she had only transmigrated into a cannon-fodder character. She simply could not shoulder such a heavy burden!

After watching so many dramas and reading so many novels, she still knew this most basic rule: snatching the male and female leads’ resources would not end well.

Jun Yueyue only wanted money. She really did not want to get involved in all sorts of messy nonsense. She did not have the brains for that either!

Jun Yueyue’s heart pounded wildly. Fang Anyu had sent her several messages. She looked at the words on the screen, but her mind was full of what Old Master Jun had said at noon.

How had the plot gone this crooked? She remembered there had been tests when she read the book. Jun Yueyue was very sure that not only had she failed the test, she had even messed it up and escaped the later parts entirely. So why was the land suddenly being given to her?

Did Old Master Jun have a hole in his head?

This would not do. She had to think of a way to plug that hole in Old Master Jun’s brain…

Jun Yueyue stood up, took a deep breath, then exhaled. She paced back and forth in the room. Originally, she had planned to hurry up and divorce Fang Anyu after returning, take the money, break away from the main plot, and live her own little life.

But now Old Master Jun wanted to give the land to her, and the entire Jun family business too. He even wanted to give Jun Yu fifty percent of the shares. What would happen with major decisions? That old man’s heart really had gone so biased it had tilted all the way to his hip bone. Why couldn’t such a good thing as taking money without working fall onto her head?!

He wanted her to shoulder the burden, and also wanted her to… Ah, wait!

Old Master Jun wanted her to divorce!

He wanted her to dump Fang Anyu and find someone else!

Jun Yueyue suddenly turned her head to look at Fang Anyu. She abruptly thought of a solution.

Jun Yueyue did not know what Old Master Jun saw in her, but she knew that if she took over the Jun family business, she would need a marriage alliance partner to help her. In that case, her partner absolutely could not be someone like Fang Anyu, a silly deaf-mute who could not do anything!

Then this was easy. As long as she refused to divorce Fang Anyu no matter what, Old Master Jun would not give her the land. If he did not give her the land, then he could only give her money. Once she got the money, she could just divorce Fang Anyu afterwards—

So Jun Yueyue quickly walked over to Fang Anyu, who was sitting by the bed. She took her phone and read all the messages he had sent. They were all harmless and unimportant. She could reply to them later.

She swiftly typed a line into her phone:

Can we not divorce for now?
