MDMSC Chapter 38

Damn (3-in-1)

With her experience of the apocalypse, Jun Yueyue had thought she had already seen through human nature. But in front of a businessman like Old Master Jun, she was still far too naïve. She had never imagined that he would move so quickly, and so ruthlessly.

The Fang family was now seeking financing everywhere. If Old Master Jun really reached out, forget signing a divorce agreement—even if he asked them to package Fang Anyu up and send him to someone else, Jun Yueyue had no doubt that they would do it.

Fang Anyan was indeed the male lead, and he did indeed care about Fang Anyu. But his character setting was that he would exhaust himself for the sake of the family business, even to the point of selling out his own marriage. Admittedly, according to the original plot, Fang Anyan and Jun Yu eventually developed feelings for each other, resolved their misunderstanding, and had a beautiful ending.

But from beginning to end, Fang Anyu, this supporting male character, was miserable apart from pushing the plot forward.

First, he was pushed out by his family to marry the original Jun Yue. After finally escaping Jun Yue’s torment, he was misunderstood by his own younger brother because he had become a little close to the female lead. He was not stupid. He just could not speak and could not hear, but he could understand.

In the original book’s ending, the male and female leads loved each other and ended up together. But in the end, Fang Anyu moved out of the Fang family home and lived alone somewhere else. The original Jun Yue also left sadly for another country. From Fang Anyu’s perspective, everyone had abandoned him in the end.

Jun Yueyue felt heartache just thinking about it.

Old Master Jun did not hide anything. He told Jun Yueyue everything: the Fang family’s true colours, and the methods he had used. Jun Yueyue’s anger had nowhere to go. She could not really hit this old man in front of her, who had cancer and was about to die.

She was so angry she was about to explode on the spot, but in the end, she only pointed at him and said, “You don’t deserve to be a grandfather.”

After saying this, she left the Jun family residence without looking back. Without Old Master Jun’s order, none of the Jun family drivers dared to send her anywhere. After storming out in anger, Jun Yueyue began to regret it a little. This was a poor, remote little town. She did not know the coach routes either. Where was she supposed to rent a car back to Qiuhai City?

But if she had to go back and look at Old Master Jun’s face again, Jun Yueyue was afraid she really would not be able to stop herself from hitting him. How could there be such a hateful person in this world? So hateful that even the fact he was about to die could not make one sympathise with him.

Jun Yueyue could almost imagine it. The Fang family would not ask Fang Anyu’s opinion at all. Or perhaps they would use all kinds of reasons to persuade him. He was such a soft person, someone who cared so much about his family. If Father Fang and Mother Fang went back and either one of them cried a little, pressured him a little, Fang Anyu would not be able to withstand it and would sign the divorce agreement.

Jun Yueyue did not blame him for being unable to resist his family. No matter how many thoughts or grievances he had, he was truly tied to the Fang family’s fortunes. Back then, he had agreed to marry the original owner for the sake of the Fang family. During the marriage, he had suffered that kind of treatment, even later the original owner’s abuse, yet he had never told the Fang family. It was clear how much he cared about them.

Just thinking about it made her heart ache. Jun Yueyue could empathise with this feeling too well. Once, she too had loved and cherished her family like that. She had been willing to give so much for them, but in the end… all she got was one sentence: “She’ll be fine.”

Now that time had passed and circumstances had changed, she could no longer remember much of the shock and despair she had felt back then. But at this moment, she could not help wiping away tears. She wiped them as she walked, looking extremely useless. She cried for herself, who had changed worlds yet was still powerless, and for Fang Anyu, who had never had any choice from beginning to end.

They only wanted to live properly. Why was it so difficult?

Jun Yueyue walked down the long, empty road. There was no village ahead and no shop behind. After crying, her emotions had been vented, and she truly regretted running out like this.

Fang Anyu had already been forced to sign. No matter how anxious she was to go back and see him, she should not have stupidly run out like this. She stood on the road and took a deep breath, preparing to turn back. Even if she could not make that damned old man send her a car, at least she had to find someone to ask how to get out of here and where she could catch a ride.

But just as she was about to walk back, a car coming from the opposite direction stopped beside her.

Jun Yueyue turned her head. The window rolled down, and inside was Li Li, who had inspected that piece of land with her that morning.

“It was just a few thunderclaps. You ran way too fast.” Li Li looked at Jun Yueyue. “You cried? Why are you here? Did you argue with Old Master Jun?”

Jun Yueyue did not want to deal with him. But right now, the best option was to take his car back to the Jun residence. Jun Yueyue showed helplessness and exhaustion, just about to ask him to give her a ride, but Li Li spoke again.

“Did something happen with your little darling?”

Li Li, like Old Master Jun, was a pure businessman. From Jun Yueyue’s lost and dispirited appearance, it was not hard for him to guess Old Master Jun’s methods. After all, yesterday, Old Master Jun had brought her before him and introduced them. Even out of consideration for Li Li’s face, Old Master Jun would have acted. It was just that this Eldest Miss Jun… also gave him a strange feeling.

Call her stupid, yet she could say all those things about cooperation. Call her shrewd, yet after growing up under Old Master Jun, even if she did not understand Old Master Jun’s methods, she should at least know a little about the filthy mess within this circle. She had not the slightest vigilance, like a reckless brute who only cared about the head and not the backside.

But he liked dealing with straightforward people like this. Li Li drove the car forward and turned it around, then opened the passenger door and said, “Get in. I’ll take you back to Qiuhai City.”

“It just so happens I also have something to do in Qiuhai,” Li Li said. “Since Miss Jun has discussed cooperation with me, I won’t beat around the bush either. I’m very interested. I accept your proposal to cooperate, provided that you can successfully become the Jun family’s heir.”

Li Li looked at Jun Yueyue as she opened the door and got into the car. Narrowing his eyes, he said, “As for that piece of land, after the funds return, how about we split it two-eight?”

This was a fucking outrageous demand. Li Li wanted to see whether Jun Yueyue was truly an idiot. She had spoken beautifully about cooperation, but how much sincerity did she actually have?

Anyone with a working brain would not agree to such a demand. Jun Yueyue turned her head to look at him. The thunder had lessened now, but the lightning in the sky had not stopped.

“I don’t need a single cent,” Jun Yueyue said.

She could already determine that the apocalypse was coming. In a few months, that piece of land would no longer be worth money. Instead, it would become a refuge that could not be entered again without exchanging a huge amount of supplies.

Li Li started the car. While driving, he looked at her curiously and could not help asking, “What did you say? You don’t want a single cent?”

Jun Yueyue nodded. “If that land is used to build a holiday resort, I want twenty percent of the area inside. That is much less than twenty percent of the profit. You can consider it.”

Li Li slammed on the brakes. The two of them lurched forward violently. Fortunately, both of them were wearing seatbelts.

“How did you know?” Li Li had actually gone to inspect that place multiple times before today. Their company had held many internal meetings, and the final conclusion was to build a holiday resort.

That place had mountains and water, beautiful scenery, natural ancient trees, and it was very close to Pingchuan. If construction really began, they could connect it with Pingchuan and create a concept of quiet seclusion within the bustle. But all of that was still only a preliminary idea. Whether they could even obtain the land was still unknown.

But how did this eldest miss of the Jun family know?!

If she knew, then did Old Master Jun also…

Jun Yueyue looked at his expression and knew this project had probably not been leaked yet. She did not show anything unusual and merely asked in return, “What do you mean, how did I know? Didn’t we look at that piece of land today? It’s only separated from Pingchuan by a mountain gully. A suspension bridge could be built. It would be thrilling, exciting, and novel. Quiet within the bustle. A holiday resort is the most suitable.”

Li Li’s expression slowly changed as he looked at Jun Yueyue. He did not speak, only silently drove. After a long while, he finally exhaled and said, “Miss Jun, you really are opening my eyes.”

Jun Yueyue thought, This is nothing. Five months later, that will truly open your eyes. I even know the direction of your mutation.

Li Li still did not quite believe that Jun Yueyue could have dug up such confidential information from inside their company. No matter how capable Old Master Jun was, he could not possibly have bribed several people within his company. Those were brothers who had fought alongside him until now, people who could risk their lives for one another. Li Li’s suspicion lasted only a moment before he dismissed it.

Then this explanation from the Jun family’s eldest miss…

“Did Old Master Jun tell you about building a holiday resort?” Li Li could not help asking.

Jun Yueyue shook her head. “I went there once some time ago. My grandfather asked me to come up with a feasibility plan. This is my preliminary idea; I haven’t put it into writing yet.”

Now, the way Li Li looked at Jun Yueyue truly showed amazement. He could not help asking again, “Why build a suspension bridge between Pingchuan and Gantan Mountain? Wouldn’t building a road be better?”

Jun Yueyue closed her eyes and leaned against the passenger seat. “You’ve gone into the mountains before. You know there are many natural pits and caves inside. There are also many rare trees along the straight-line route to Pingchuan City. If you cut them down, you’ll lose many promotional points. Transplanting them would take too much time and labour. And building a road would also be especially expensive.”

Jun Yueyue looked at Li Li through the rear-view mirror. “You’ve definitely been there many times. You know there is a natural stone peak up there. If you build down from there, whether it’s a suspension bridge or iron chains, people can descend directly to Pingchuan through the air. It would be thrilling and novel, right?”

Mainly, after the zombie outbreak, the suspension bridge could be retracted and sealed off directly, cutting off the entrance from Pingchuan. Zombies could not get in. It was the perfect place to build a base.

The way Li Li looked at Jun Yueyue became heated. A smile appeared at his lips, and while driving, he patted the steering wheel. Their preliminary idea had not included this yet, but he had indeed gone to that natural stone peak many times.

“Miss Jun, if you really can take over the Jun family, I agree to allocate thirty percent of the holiday resort area to you,” Li Li said, speeding up. “The prerequisite is that when you go back this time, you have to hurry and settle your little darling. Old Master Jun will not tolerate you continuing to be entangled with him.”

“As for this suspension bridge idea, I want to see a written feasibility plan,” Li Li said. “Don’t worry, I absolutely won’t steal anyone’s idea.”

Jun Yueyue nodded. For a while, neither of them spoke.

After they left Xiude Town, Li Li moved his lips several times before finally being unable to hold back. “I don’t know how you girls think, but I do know a little about that little darling of yours.”

Jun Yueyue opened her eyes and looked at him. At this moment, he was sincerely giving advice. “You really don’t need to be so fixated on marriage or divorce. Once the Jun family is in your hands, can someone like him really run away? Won’t you be able to keep him however you want?”

Of course Jun Yueyue had thought of this too. That was why she had played along with Old Master Jun. But she had promised Fang Anyu that she would not divorce him. This was her promise. Not keeping her word would be betrayal.

“Forgive me for being blunt,” Li Li said. “For a delicate flower like that, if you don’t have something in your hands, you won’t be able to keep him either.”

Jun Yueyue glared at him. What a fart of a statement. Of course she knew that. Otherwise, she would have long abandoned everything and eloped with him!

Moreover, after this trip to Xiude Town, Jun Yueyue had basically confirmed that this was before the apocalypse. Right now, she urgently needed money—countless amounts of money. Money meant supplies, and only with abundant supplies could one live for a long time and live well.

She simply could not imagine what Fang Anyu, someone like him, would look like if he went hungry, if he lived badly and was chased by those terrifying living dead.

In fact, after learning that Fang Anyu had been schemed against and made to sign, the reason Jun Yueyue had not acted on the spot, had not completely fallen out with Old Master Jun, and had even run out to control her emotions, was because after confirming that the apocalypse would come, she knew even more clearly that she could not give up the Jun family. She could not give up that piece of land. She could not even let go of the opportunity to cling to Li Li.

The largest base after the apocalypse, that indestructible stone wall, was the best choice for protecting herself and Fang Anyu!

At this moment, Jun Yueyue had also calmed down. Li Li’s words were fairly sincere, so she rarely let down her guard and said, “I’m only going back to take a look. You know, he can’t speak and can’t hear. His phone has probably been taken away too.”

When Jun Yueyue mentioned Fang Anyu, she could not help revealing a slight smile. “He definitely didn’t sign willingly. Right now, who knows which corner he’s hiding in and crying. I have to comfort him and explain the plan clearly to him. Only then can I completely let go and do what I need to do. Otherwise, he’ll be afraid that I really don’t want him. If his heart is truly broken, I won’t be able to coax him back.”

“Your taste really is special,” Li Li also smiled. “Liking such a treasure, you’ll have to use yourself like a man for the rest of your life.”

In her previous life, Jun Yueyue had always used herself like a man anyway. What was the big deal? She was only afraid Fang Anyu would misunderstand and then be unable to think things through. One had to know that in the original work, he had once had suicidal tendencies.

“Even then, there’s no need to rush back like this. It’s not like he can run away,” Li Li said. “The best thing for you right now is to stay beside Old Master Jun. No matter what, cancer patients need family by their side. Stay with him until the end, and if he’s happy, perhaps he’ll give everything to you.”

Jun Yueyue knew that what Li Li said was true, but she still shook her head.

Old Master Jun’s side could wait a little. Fang Anyu’s side could not. Leaving everything else aside, Old Master Jun and Fang Anyu could not even be compared in Jun Yueyue’s heart. No matter what she planned to do later, she had to let Fang Anyu know. He had too little sense of security. When they were at home, he had worked so diligently in bed precisely because he wanted her to become pregnant. It was because he had heard that if he gave her a child, she would not divorce him.

Now that the layer of security provided by marriage was gone, Jun Yueyue had to explain everything clearly to him before doing anything else. Otherwise, if he misunderstood, how sad and wronged would he be?

“You don’t understand,” Jun Yueyue said. “There are some things in this world that cannot wait. There can’t be even the slightest misunderstanding. Otherwise, you won’t be able to get them back later.”

After hearing this, Li Li did not speak for a long time. He drove in silence. But after leaving a section of the motorway and beginning to sway along the country road, he suddenly spoke.

“You’re right,” Li Li said. “Things really do need to be made clear.”

Otherwise, some things truly could not be recovered.

Jun Yueyue nodded, indicating agreement. After a while, Li Li said again, “If I had understood this earlier, maybe I could have kept a delicate flower at home too.”

Jun Yueyue turned her head. The smile on Li Li’s face carried a little bitterness and nostalgia.

“I stayed in Qiuhai City before too. Back then, I was very poor. My parents were both dead, I dropped out of school early, and I ran a roadside stall with my brothers.”

Jun Yueyue did not speak. She only quietly acted as a listener.

“At that time, there was also a delicate little flower who provoked me. Back then, I fought, gambled—there was nothing I didn’t do,” Li Li said. “That little flower of mine was even more delicate than yours. She couldn’t even stand up, but you could tell she was extremely precious. I didn’t dare touch her back then. I couldn’t afford to keep her either.”

Jun Yueyue remembered that after the apocalypse, this guy really did not have anyone by his side. The leaders of other bases practically wished they could have harems, but this man had no one around him. He was also powerful, so many people said his mutation had mutated away his sexual ability too, that he had turned into stone. At the time, Jun Yueyue and her teammates had even sighed over it…

“What happened afterwards?” Jun Yueyue could not help asking.

“Afterwards…” Li Li clicked his tongue and pressed his lips together. “I couldn’t touch her, so I scared her away. I used a particularly rotten method.”

Li Li suddenly laughed. “I reckon she’ll never forget me in this lifetime—the stinking hooligan she met during her innocent youth.”

Jun Yueyue also sighed. “Then now that you’re so impressive, haven’t you gone back to look for her?”

Li Li shook his head. “Back then, I never even asked what her name was. That school is already gone too. I can’t find her.”

“That’s why I said you’re right. Go back and properly comfort your delicate flower,” Li Li said. “Then come back and coax that old man. There’s still time. After all, apart from you, the Jun family has no other choice now.”

Jun Yueyue smiled slightly and said nothing more.

For the rest of the journey, neither of them spoke, but this kind of silence was not awkward for either of them.

When they stopped to refuel on the road, Jun Yueyue and Li Li took turns driving. Whoever was tired slept for a while in the back seat. After one night plus most of the next day, they finally arrived in Qiuhai City.

Jun Yueyue stretched her stiff back. “You’re such a big boss. Why don’t you hire a driver?”

Both of them looked exhausted. Li Li said, “I have drivers. Several of them. But those things are for putting on airs when going somewhere. When you’re really going out by yourself, who uses a driver? You can’t even speak freely.”

Jun Yueyue thought about it. Fang Anyan also seemed to always drive himself. Before the Fang family fell, they were a wealthy family. Forgive her for having watched too many novels and TV dramas, but she had always thought that wealthy families must have drivers wherever they went.

After arriving in Qiuhai City, Jun Yueyue did not rush to the Fang residence. Instead, she found a hotel and checked in first. After cleaning herself up, she went to the flower, bird, and fish market to buy Fang Anyu a little gift. Only then, in the evening, did she go to the Fang residence.

She prepared to enter the Fang family’s front gate as if nothing had happened, but she was stopped at the entrance and not allowed in. The security guard already recognised her, but he said Madam had instructed that she was not allowed to enter.

Jun Yueyue had already expected this outcome. Making a scene at the entrance would look too ugly. Right now, she also did not have the apocalypse-era ability to punch one person down with each fist, so she could not force her way in. She could only leave first and call Fang Anyan.

But Fang Anyan’s phone could not be connected. Jun Yueyue went to his company to wait for him, only to find out that he had gone on another business trip abroad.

This was difficult. Jun Yueyue sat in the hotel thinking of a plan. She had to see Fang Anyu once. At this time, the sky outside was almost dark. The lightning that had not stopped all day became even clearer, but strangely, there was no thunder.

Jun Yueyue could not contact Fang Anyan, and she could not get through the Fang family’s main gate. She also could not force her way in. After thinking it over, she had no choice but to take a small torch in the middle of the night and creep around to the nanny room area behind the Fang family’s gate, secretly climbing over the wall.

Fortunately, the Fang family did not keep dogs. At midnight, everything around was quiet. Jun Yueyue quietly slipped into the courtyard like a thief and stood beneath Fang Anyu’s window. She shone the torch upward quickly and glanced. Great, the curtains were not drawn!

Fang Anyu could not hear sounds. Jun Yueyue held the torch and kept shaking the light back and forth at the window.

But her hand grew sore from waving it, and Fang Anyu still did not come to the window. Had he fallen asleep?

Jun Yueyue stood outside for more than an hour. The torch was almost out of battery. She took out her phone and looked at it. It was almost one in the morning.

Jun Yueyue was reluctant to leave, but she also could not act like people in dramas and shout his name from downstairs, because her darling could not hear at all.

Jun Yueyue sat on the flower bed downstairs and temporarily turned off the torch. She sighed while looking upstairs, thinking that people in love were supposed to have some kind of telepathic connection. Could this little ancestor sense it and come out to meet her?

At half past one, she was truly going numb from staying downstairs. She was not wearing much, and the night was very cold. Her face had gone a little pale from freezing. Jun Yueyue turned on the torch one last time. The light was already not very bright, and there was still no reaction from the bedroom. She thought Fang Anyu must have fallen asleep.

Jun Yueyue had no choice and prepared to leave. But before leaving, she moved the torch towards the balcony, intending to look at the flowers and plants Fang Anyu had planted, along with the little fish they had bought together, to temporarily ease her longing.

The flowers and plants were indeed growing very well. The little fish were still stacked together, sleeping in the corner of the fish tank.

Jun Yueyue sighed and touched the little turtle in her pocket. Originally, she had planned to give this thing to Fang Anyu tonight, coax him, and explain everything clearly to him. Unfortunately…

Just as Jun Yueyue withdrew the torchlight, the balcony window was suddenly pulled open.

Jun Yueyue jerked her head up. Even though the torch was almost out of battery, she could still see that the person standing there was Fang Anyu!

She hurriedly shone the torch on her own face. Her original intention was to let Fang Anyu see her clearly. She also waved at Fang Anyu, gesturing for him to come downstairs to find her.

But after she waved a few times, Fang Anyu suddenly disappeared. Jun Yueyue looked up in confusion. She heard some noise from inside the room, and then the lights came on.

“Anyu? Old An, come here quickly! Anyu is smashing the door!” A strange woman’s voice sounded. Jun Yueyue caught an earful. The only person who would call Fang Anyu that way could only be his mother.

She quickly turned off the torch and crouched down.

Fang Anyu could not open the door. His mother had locked it to stop him from running away. They had forced him. His mother had also kept crying, saying that as long as he signed the divorce agreement, the Fang family could be saved.

Fang Anyu had refused, because when he got married, they had told him the same thing. He locked himself away and did not want to see anyone. But later, his father fainted, and Fang Anyu had no choice. He was very sad and missed Jun Yueyue very much, but his mother would not let him go out. She said that only after he signed that thing could he go out, and then they would stop controlling him.

Fang Anyu wanted too badly to find Jun Yueyue. He wanted too badly to ask her whether she truly did not want him anymore. Even if she wanted a divorce, it did not matter. He could go find her again. He could wait for her. He wanted to ask her again whether, if he asked for nothing, he really could not be her lover—the kind where they did not do anything and just met each other.

But he had been deceived. After signing that divorce agreement, he was locked inside the room. Fang Anyu could not get out. His phone had been taken away. He… had no way at all.

He had stayed in that little room on the balcony the whole time. He did not want to sleep. He did not want to eat. He only wanted to find Jun Yueyue.

He had not expected Jun Yueyue to actually come!

Fang Anyu anxiously pulled at the door, but the door was locked. No matter how he pulled, he could not open it. He even tried using things to smash it, but the door did not budge. His mother was speaking outside and had even turned on the lights.

Fang Anyu was afraid. He was too afraid. He was afraid that his mother would drive Jun Yueyue away. Then she definitely would not come back again. She definitely would not come back…

Jun Yueyue listened to the sounds inside. She heard Mother Fang blocking him, even roaring at who-knew-who, yelling about getting the key?

Jun Yueyue understood instantly. They had locked Fang Anyu up. He was so timid, and lightning and thunder had gone on all day, yet they had locked him up!

She could not bear it. Just as she was about to go around to the front and knock on the door, she heard sounds coming from the balcony again. Then Fang Anyu, holding who-knew-what in his hand, directly threw it at the balcony glass. Jun Yueyue quickly stepped back. The sound of shattering glass rang crisply and loudly in the night sky.

Then she raised her head and saw Fang Anyu step onto the empty glass frame of the balcony.

The moment she realised what he was about to do, Jun Yueyue’s shocked scream to stop him rang out together with the woman’s voice from inside the room.

But it was already too late—

Fang Anyu gave them no time to react. He stepped once on the balcony, then quickly pushed off and leapt into the air, rapidly jumping down towards the ground!

Even knowing that he could not hear her at all, the scream at this moment could not be controlled. The only thing Jun Yueyue could do was rush towards the direction he was falling, regardless of life or death, and spread open her arms—

After a dull thud, accompanied by the heart-rending screams of the woman and man upstairs, Jun Yueyue only felt her head grow terribly dizzy. A numb, dull pain spread through her back. The two of them smashed together into the flower bed.

Jun Yueyue had been knocked into the flower bed by Fang Anyu. Her calf had tripped over who-knew-where at the edge of the flower bed. When she was knocked in, it had been flung up from the impact, and even now she could not feel it.

Fuck.

It hurt too much. This was too insane…

Jun Yueyue was so dizzy she could not open her eyes. She could feel the person beside her crawl over and tightly hug her. She struggled to open her eyes, but could not see Fang Anyu. The suffocating feeling brought by the impact also made her feel like a dehydrated fish. Her vision was full of circles within circles.

The delicate flower was too fierce. He had actually jumped from the building. No matter how low this was, it was still the second floor…

Jun Yueyue felt wetness on her neck, but she could not move at all, as if she were trapped in sleep paralysis. Not long after, she heard people crying as if at a funeral, men’s and women’s voices mixed together in shrill chaos, running towards the two of them.

The sound should have been very sharp, but for some reason, it felt as though there was a layer of headphones between them.

Before her consciousness completely sank into darkness, she seemed to feel Fang Anyu kissing her face. The corner of her mouth twitched into a slight smile. This little ancestor really was deadly.

At the same time, she rejoiced inwardly. Luckily, the small tree planted in this flower bed had been soaked to death by the rain a few days ago, and she had watched the servants dig it out. Otherwise, what she had crashed into would not have been mud. She might have been pierced like a sieve…

When she woke up again, Jun Yueyue was lying on a hospital bed. The moment she opened her eyes, Fang Anyu was in the bed beside hers. He was looking at her. One of his legs was hung high in the air. A piece of gauze was wrapped around his jaw. An IV drip was inserted into his hand, and his face was as pale as the bedsheet beneath him. Seeing her open her eyes, he actually struggled to get up again.

Jun Yueyue was terrified by him. She quickly climbed up from the bed, reached out, and made a gesture for him to sit back down as she said, “Don’t move!”

In this specific situation, Fang Anyu could understand. He immediately stopped moving. But he remained half-risen, staring fixedly at her, his hand with the IV pressing against the edge of the bed.

Don’t let the needle shift!

Jun Yueyue could not care about her own aching body. She climbed up without even bothering to put on shoes and quickly went to Fang Anyu’s side, pressing him back down.

“Lie down.” Jun Yueyue said two words to him, then took his strained hand and examined it. Fortunately, the needle had not shifted.

Jun Yueyue had stood up too abruptly just now. At this moment, she felt as if her waist was about to break. She quickly reached out to support herself and sat down on the chair beside Fang Anyu’s hospital bed. Gritting her teeth and forcing herself to endure, she pressed a hand to his shoulder to stop him from getting up.

Fang Anyu’s face was frighteningly pale. Even the colour of his lips was very faint. His curly hair was messy, and one patch had been shaved to stick gauze on. His chin was also broken, and there were many scratches on his neck already painted with iodine, one patch after another. He looked very battered.

But his eyes were unbelievably bright. He stared fixedly at Jun Yueyue. A thousand words, yet he could not say a single one. He could only look at her like this, using the other hand—the one without the IV, but whose web between thumb and index finger had been torn a few days ago and had not fully healed—to pinch Jun Yueyue’s clothes between two fingers, as if she would run away the moment he lost focus.

Jun Yueyue met his gaze and could not help smiling. But as soon as she smiled, she felt as if even the muscles in her face hurt. The smile instantly turned into a bitter smile.

She could not see what she looked like. Although her arms and legs were not injured from the fall, with such a strong impact, there were many places where she had strained herself. There was not a single part of her body that did not hurt.

She also had many things she wanted to say to Fang Anyu, but Fang Anyu could not hear. Jun Yueyue turned around and searched. Sure enough, her belongings were by the hospital bed. She rummaged through her dirty clothes and found her stubborn phone.

It had not turned off, but the screen had not escaped disaster this time. It had shattered.

Like yesterday’s lightning, it had completely fallen asleep in the shape of a spiderweb. Jun Yueyue tried tapping it with her finger… and it actually still worked.

She was almost moved to tears by its quality. Jun Yueyue quickly brought the phone over, sat beside Fang Anyu, and used voice-to-text.

“Are you crazy? You’re far too bold. How could you jump down from such a high place!”

After Fang Anyu read it, his eyes instantly turned red. Originally, he could still poke around with one hand, but now his leg was injured too. The wound on his previous hand injury had not healed, and because he had moved things and smashed the door yesterday, it had torn open a little. This hand also had an IV drip. He was simply miserable beyond words. No matter how anxious he was, he could not type a single word.

Seeing him like this, Jun Yueyue’s heart ached, but she also could not help wanting to laugh. It was a genuine smile of happiness from the bottom of her heart. As long as she saw Fang Anyu, as long as she was together with him, no matter what happened, she wanted to smile.

Jun Yueyue quickly continued using voice input. “If you can’t move, don’t move for now. I’ll type and you just read.”

Fang Anyu stared at Jun Yueyue and nodded. But he still used two fingers to pinch her clothes, afraid she would run away.

Jun Yueyue did not bother with it and let him pinch. She went straight to the main point.

“I never wanted to divorce you. It was my grandfather who gave benefits to your parents and made them force you into divorce.”

After Fang Anyu read it, his whole body seemed to relax. Only then did Jun Yueyue discover that his head had not even been resting on the pillow earlier…

He lay on the pillow and looked at Jun Yueyue, his eyes red-rimmed as he nodded. Jun Yueyue’s own eyes could not help turning red too. Originally, this was just supposed to be a secret meeting in the middle of the night. Somehow, it had become like a life-and-death separation.

She cleared her throat and held back the sting in her nose, continuing with voice input.

“I didn’t stop wanting you. Even without marriage, we can still be together.”

After Fang Anyu read this sentence, he closed his eyes briefly. Tears slid from the corners of his eyes into his temples. Jun Yueyue reached out to wipe them away and kissed his cheek.

Then she continued, “But we need to separate for a while temporarily. You don’t need to be afraid. I still like you the same. It won’t be long. As long as I get the Jun family, we can be together without any worries.”

After Fang Anyu read this sentence, tears continuously slid down from the corners of his eyes. He pursed his lips, seeming to desperately want to speak, but he could not say anything at all.

His lips moved many times. Thousands of words, but in the end, he only nodded with a face full of grievance, staring at Jun Yueyue with an especially anxious look.

Jun Yueyue could basically guess what he wanted to say. Every time they separated, Fang Anyu would make her promise and add a deadline to their separation.

Jun Yueyue directly typed:

“Don’t worry. We won’t be apart for very long. At the latest, it won’t exceed five months.”

After Fang Anyu read this, he stared at Jun Yueyue with an especially, especially pitiful look. He did not want to separate at all. Five days was torture to him, let alone five months… He could not bear it.

Fang Anyu’s eyes were full of pleading. Jun Yueyue was only preparing for the worst-case scenario, but she did not set the deadline too close. She was afraid that if she could not succeed within the deadline, Fang Anyu would be hurt again.

So Jun Yueyue could only grit her teeth and set the deadline a little longer. No matter what, within five months, she had to seize the Jun family, cling to the apocalypse bigshot Li Li, and win for Fang Anyu and herself an absolutely safe place with abundant supplies inside that post-apocalyptic sanctuary.

But facing Fang Anyu’s gaze, Jun Yueyue truly could not bear it either. Supporting her waist, her face full of pain, she leaned forward and moved close to Fang Anyu’s lips, touching them lightly.

Staring into his eyes, she said one word at a time, “Believe me. I won’t lie to you.”

Fang Anyu raised his head slightly and kissed her lips. His lips were a little cold. Jun Yueyue cooperated with him, letting him lie back down on the pillow, and gently, lingeringly comforted each other.

Outside the window, the lightning that had been tearing across the sky all along silently stopped.

I believe you. Don’t lie to me.
