MDMSC Chapter 49

I Was Bitten

The car moved through the streets fairly smoothly.

Aside from the occasional chain collision blocking the road, the newly mutated zombies were still slow. Even if they heard the sound and reacted, by the time they tried to chase, the car had already driven far away.

Along the way, they occasionally encountered other people escaping by car, and some dragging their families along on foot. But at a time like this, walking was no different from courting death.

Even if the zombies in their initial stage of mutation were low-level, slow, and reacted sluggishly, they were still monsters that could not be killed by knives or guns unless their heads were split open. Once their numbers grew and they swarmed together, even the fiercest tiger could not withstand a pack of wolves.

They saw people being caught by zombies, but often, the car had only just slowed down when that person was already surrounded. There was no saving them.

As soon as Jun Yueyue got into the car, she comforted Fang Anyu. Fang Anyu kept staring out of the window, his eyes wide open, as if he had been frightened badly. Looking from upstairs, separated by a fair distance, did not feel so real. But actually sitting in the car, even seeing the blood left on the windshield after zombies were knocked flying in front of the car, made the impact far too intense.

Jun Yueyue simply pulled Fang Anyu’s head into her arms and used voice input to comfort him.

“It’s okay. Don’t look anymore. Don’t be afraid. Just follow me,” Jun Yueyue said into the phone. “If you’re really scared, should I cover your eyes?”

“Pfft.”

A not very obvious scoff sounded.

Jun Yueyue, holding the phone, looked toward the back of the girl’s head in the front seat. The sound had come from there.

It really was not that Jun Yueyue was overly sensitive. She could still distinguish whether something was malicious or not. Even Ji Fei in the front sensed that something was wrong and glanced at the rear-view mirror with a frown.

Perhaps sensing that the atmosphere had turned wrong, the girl’s mother wrapped an arm around the back of her daughter’s head.

Jun Yueyue said nothing. Ji Fei looked away, pressed the accelerator, and continued driving quickly toward the grand hotel from yesterday.

When they arrived downstairs at the hotel, there were quite a few shadowy figures swaying around in the lobby.

Jun Yueyue called Li Li. The call was picked up quickly.

“We’re downstairs, but there are a lot of zombies in the lobby. We’ll think of a way to deal with them. You get ready,” Jun Yueyue said. “It’s best if you can find a way to deal with the ones on your floor. This place is too high. It isn’t realistic for us to climb the stairs. It’ll use too much stamina. We can only take the lift up.”

“Alright. I looked just now. There aren’t many on this floor. I’ll think of a way,” Li Li said.

After saying that, he simply did not hang up. Both sides kept the call connected.

Wu Zhenfei was still trying to persuade her.

“Yueyue, it’s too dangerous. Yesterday, this floor of the hotel had several hundred guests staying here. No one knows exactly how many survivors there are now. Since you’ve already arrived, find somewhere to hide. I’ve already contacted the person coming to pick me up. He agreed to take you all with us.”

Jun Yueyue did not answer Wu Zhenfei.

Her feelings toward this person were actually very complicated. He liked her. Truly and sincerely. In both lives.

In the world that had belonged to her, no matter how recklessly she behaved, Wu Zhenfei had only ever tried to persuade her in this tone. When she had ruined things so badly that everyone abandoned her, he had still stayed by her side, hoping she would turn back.

But at the end of that life, after she became pregnant with Fang Anyu’s child, Wu Zhenfei had finally given up. He had originally admitted that the child was his, but perhaps the feeling of joyfully becoming a father to someone else’s child was too painful, especially when the other party was someone he truly liked. During one drunken breakdown with friends, he had denied the matter of the child.

In this life, Jun Yueyue did not want to get tangled up with him.

Not liking someone meant not liking someone. Being moved was not the same as liking someone. Jun Yueyue understood this very clearly.

Besides, in the last life, Wu Zhenfei had refused the marriage with Ming Zhen. In this life, he had already married Ming Zhen. Even if they were going the same way, Jun Yueyue did not intend to travel with him.

She quietly discussed with Ji Fei and Fang Anyan in the front. Since sound could attract zombies, they might as well lure them out first. There were quite a few cars parked in front of the hotel. It would not be difficult to set off an alarm. But this method could not guarantee that all the zombies in the lobby would be drawn out, and it would also attract other zombies nearby.

However, before Jun Yueyue could speak, the family of three in the middle row could not help speaking when they heard the word “military.”

“We… we’re willing to follow you. Please take us with you!”

The man even reached back and snatched Jun Yueyue’s phone, begging Wu Zhenfei.

Hearing a strange man’s voice, Wu Zhenfei paused and asked, “Who are you?”

“I’m a citizen. The military should save citizens in distress. You must take our family with you. We…”

Jun Yueyue snatched the phone back and hung up.

“Why are you shouting? If you want to go with him, we’ll talk about it after we get upstairs.”

“Then let’s smash a car,” Ji Fei said to Jun Yueyue. “I have a gun. I’ll go smash the one farther away. Once you see the zombies run out, hurry into the lobby. After going in, remember to close the side door. Zombies won’t use the revolving door, so I can enter from there.”

Fang Anyan grabbed Ji Fei’s hand somewhat worriedly.

Ji Fei smiled. “Don’t worry. My life is tough. They’re slow. They can’t catch me.”

Jun Yueyue said, “Then you must be careful. We’ll meet at the lift.”

As she spoke, she had already begun wrapping something around her arm, then tied the dagger back onto her hand.

Fang Anyu looked at Jun Yueyue in panic. Jun Yueyue stroked his face and slowly said, “It’s okay. Trust me.”

The three people in front of Jun Yueyue were clearly even more panicked than Fang Anyu.

“We’re not getting out. We’ll stay in the car. The keys… give us the keys.”

This time, it was Ji Fei’s turn to scoff.

“Give you the keys so you can drive away?”

“You can choose not to go up. Then you’ll be locked in the car,” Jun Yueyue said. “But let me explain the two possible outcomes. First, if too many zombies are attracted, they’ll only be drawn to the sound temporarily. Once they realise there’s nothing to eat, they’ll scatter. When they see you in the car, they’ll all pounce on you.”

The three people’s faces turned extremely ugly.

It was not hard to imagine. If they really stayed here, once so many zombies surrounded them, how long could the thin glass hold?

Jun Yueyue continued, “Also, didn’t you want to leave with the military? We’re only going upstairs to pick up two people. We’ll come back down quickly. The military will still take a while to arrive. If you don’t go upstairs and wait there, then you can only leave with us.”

“You’re insane! With that many zombies, how could we possibly go up? Didn’t you hear what that person said on the phone? There are hundreds of guests in this building!” The little girl’s voice was sharp and piercing. Jun Yueyue instinctively covered her ears.

Jun Yueyue’s patience really depended on who she was facing. Her eardrums hurt from being stabbed by the sound, and she shouted directly, “Who decided to bring them along?!”

Ji Fei answered faintly, “Me. I regret it now.”

The three people’s arrogance instantly deflated like a punctured balloon. Their faces were still ugly, but they did not dare speak anymore.

Jun Yueyue and Ji Fei exchanged glances. After Ji Fei turned off the engine, she turned her head, cupped Fang Anyan’s face, and kissed him. Then she unfastened her seatbelt, opened the door, and got out cleanly.

First, she ran to the side of the hotel entrance and opened the side door completely. Then she ran toward the distance. When she reached the car at the edge, she directly used the gun in her hand to smash the windshield.

A sharp, piercing alarm sounded.

Inside the car, Jun Yueyue silently counted.

One… two… three… four… five…

Zombies began running out of the lobby through the side door.

One, two, three, four. More and more came out. The zombies began instinctively howling too, a way of attracting their companions.

Fang Anyan’s eyes were fixed tightly on Ji Fei’s hiding place. Jun Yueyue’s eyes were locked firmly on the gradually decreasing number of heads inside the lobby.

When the number was finally within a roughly manageable range, a pile of zombies had already gathered beside the car with the blaring alarm. Even some zombies wandering on the street had been drawn over.

They could not wait any longer.

Jun Yueyue called Fang Anyan’s name, then opened the car door and got out. One hand held the knife, the other pulled Fang Anyu.

Although the three people were very unwilling to leave a safe place and rush into danger, they still had no choice but to follow them out of the car. Otherwise, they truly could not bear the two outcomes Jun Yueyue had described. These people were too terrifying. They could not follow them away, but they also could not remain in the car waiting for zombies to gnaw on them.

As soon as they got out, several people ran madly toward the lobby.

Before they reached the lobby, they ran into two zombies at the entrance that had been attracted by the sound and were about to run outside.

Fang Anyan was in front. Jun Yueyue held Fang Anyu at the back. Although Fang Anyan had spent this period learning plenty of combat from Ji Fei, that had all been against ordinary people. Facing zombies that basically had no weakness except the head, and facing two at once, he was momentarily overwhelmed.

Ji Fei was running toward them.

Jun Yueyue glanced back and saw that it was temporarily safe behind her, so she quickly released Fang Anyu and went to help Fang Anyan.

The moment Fang Anyu’s hand emptied, no one turned back.

No one saw his gradually darkening gaze.

Jun Yueyue and Fang Anyan each dealt with one. Then Jun Yueyue quickly turned back to take Fang Anyu’s hand again. The group rushed inside.

By then, Ji Fei had also caught up. After everyone ran into the lobby, they shut the side door. The only zombies left in the lobby were two behind the counter, constantly crying out but unable to get out because of a waist-high barrier.

Smelling them, the two zombies howled while thudding against the counter.

The group gathered into a tight circle, watching their surroundings. Jun Yueyue had originally placed Fang Anyu in the middle, but the family of three huddled together and squeezed him toward the edge.

Jun Yueyue frowned and pulled Fang Anyu closer to herself.

When they reached the lift, Jun Yueyue’s phone vibrated again.

It was Li Li.

Jun Yueyue answered and heard him say, “I dealt with three on this floor. The corridor is temporarily clear. I was originally going to bring Jun Yu down, but Yu’er’s emotions aren’t very good. There’s still no news from Old Master Jun’s side. Also, I got a bit injured just now. I’m afraid there might be people inside the lift, and I won’t be able to handle it. You come up.”

“What injury did you get?!” Jun Yueyue immediately asked nervously.

The people around her were clearly nervous too.

Li Li quickly answered, “A cut. I was pushed and hit some glass just now.”

Jun Yueyue sighed in relief.

She knew Li Li would mutate in the future, but in the early stage of the apocalypse, there were very few mutated ability users. At this time, even if an ability user was bitten or scratched, they would rapidly turn into a zombie too.

After the call ended, everyone had heard the conversation just now and stepped back slightly. Only then did Li Li cautiously press the lift button.

When no one was inside, the lift would automatically descend to the first floor. So as soon as Li Li pressed the button, the lift doors opened quickly.

They had all prepared themselves for the possibility that there would be people inside the lift.

But when the doors truly opened, and they saw a lift packed full of zombies, probably having gnawed at one another earlier, all bloodied beyond human shape, turning their heads toward them at the same time, everyone sucked in a breath together.

Jun Yueyue saw a girl among them who still had a crooked birthday hat on her head. On the parts of the others that were not covered in blood and flesh, a small amount of dried cream could still be seen.

She instantly determined that this had been a group birthday party.

A birthday had turned into a damn memorial day!

In the flash of a thought, the zombies inside had already rushed out. The family of three standing in the middle screamed together.

Ji Fei calmly stood at the front and fired headshots, but there were simply too many of them. More than ten rushed out together. It was impossible to eliminate them instantly.

Jun Yueyue grabbed Fang Anyu and turned to run. The family of three followed behind them, screaming as they ran. Jun Yueyue wanted nothing more than to sew their mouths shut.

However, their side did attract most of the zombies, creating time for Ji Fei to shoot. In the blink of an eye, four fell. Fang Anyan also seized the opportunity to stab one male zombie through the back of the head, killing it.

The remaining six or seven were all running after Jun Yueyue and the others.

This would not work.

Jun Yueyue’s thoughts raced. Suddenly, she changed direction and ran toward the revolving door. When she reached it, she first shoved Fang Anyu inside, then quickly squeezed in herself.

The little girl behind her also forced her way into their compartment. The remaining couple entered the compartment behind them. The door was specially rotated, placing the remaining zombies into two separate compartments. As long as they kept rotating at a steady speed, they could turn all the zombies outside.

But Ji Fei’s gunfire had attracted the zombies outside the door. Jun Yueyue watched as one zombie quickly ran toward them.

Actually, this was not anything too serious. As long as they rotated fast enough, they would be safe very soon.

But when the revolving door turned toward the outside, the little girl beside her saw the approaching zombie and suddenly screamed. In terror, she pulled Fang Anyu over to block in front of herself.

Fang Anyu was pushed out of the revolving door’s range.

Jun Yueyue hurriedly reached out to grab him, but it was already too late. She was hit by the door rotating quickly behind her. Fang Anyu was knocked straight out.

Jun Yueyue’s eyes nearly split open.

She was pushed by inertia and quickly reached the inside of the door. The zombies had all been pushed outside, standing together with Fang Anyu.

He looked somewhat blankly through the glass toward the inside.

Although Jun Yueyue reacted swiftly and pulled open the side door to rush outside, and Ji Fei also reacted quickly, firing shots to attract the zombies’ attention, by the time Jun Yueyue rushed out, Fang Anyu had already been knocked down by a zombie.

Jun Yueyue gripped the dagger and stabbed straight through the brain of the zombie on top of Fang Anyu. She kicked another zombie lunging toward them to the ground, then swiftly pulled Fang Anyu into the revolving door.

One hand tightly gripped Fang Anyu’s wrist, but her hand trembled as if she had stepped on an electric switch.

As soon as she entered the building, she saw Ji Fei slapping the little girl across the face. Jun Yueyue dragged Fang Anyu over and launched a flying kick. She truly used all her strength, directly kicking the girl far away and making her roll several times across the floor.

The girl’s father came forward to stop her. Jun Yueyue grabbed her knife, pressing the tip against the man’s eye. Her murderous glare was ferocious. Her eyes were bloodshot, almost as if blood would flow from them.

Even Ji Fei had no doubt that in the next moment, Jun Yueyue would stab through this man’s eye.

But though the veins at her temples bulged from holding herself back, Jun Yueyue did not actually stab down.

The little girl clutched her side and cried in her mother’s arms. Jun Yueyue truly wanted to kill their entire family.

Hurry up and mutate.

She no longer disliked the ugliness of being a King Kong Barbie. If she had strength…

“I’m not killing you, not because I’m soft-hearted,” Jun Yueyue glared at the man and said word by word. “If I weren’t afraid of scaring him, all three of you would fucking die.”

Every word Jun Yueyue spoke seemed forced out through her teeth.

The man was so frightened that he trembled and collapsed onto the ground.

Fang Anyan and Ji Fei pressed down the knife in Jun Yueyue’s hand. But her other hand remained gripping Fang Anyu’s wrist. She trembled so hard it seemed as if her hand would snap, yet she did not let go.

They entered the lift.

The family of three supported one another, curling up in the corner of the lift. They were angry but did not dare speak. Only, in a corner Jun Yueyue could not see, they stared maliciously at her back.

Fang Anyu stood beside Jun Yueyue. The two of them were positioned at the very outside of the lift. Fang Anyu had probably been frightened by what had just happened and kept his head lowered without making a sound.

Jun Yueyue should have hugged and comforted him, but instead, she only stood a short distance away, gripping his wrist tightly.

The tears in her eyes stayed there the entire time.

Until the lift arrived.

Until they entered Li Li and Jun Yu’s room.

After Jun Yueyue glanced at Jun Yu, she directly pulled Fang Anyu into the bathroom. Only after locking the door from inside did she pull Fang Anyu to the sink, release the wrist she had been gripping, turn on the tap, and madly rinse it.

When she pushed up his sleeve, there was a fierce half-moon-shaped bite wound on it. Some of the skin and flesh had been torn up. It did not look even one-tenth as bloody as the zombies’ mangled bodies, but the sight blurred Jun Yueyue’s vision. She kept rinsing his hand for a long time, her entire person on the verge of emotional collapse.

He had been bitten.

Even though she had rushed out immediately, even though Fang Anyu had used his arm to block the zombie, his wrist had still been bitten.

Jun Yueyue looked at the wound she had rinsed until it turned pale. She ignored the people knocking outside and asking questions. She only hugged Fang Anyu with tear-blurred eyes, feeling indescribably miserable.

She had still failed to protect him.

Her guilt was so intense she almost vomited blood.

She hugged Fang Anyu and did not plan to tell anyone, nor did she plan to go out.

If Fang Anyu mutated here, then there was no other meaning in living on in this world.

The time it took to mutate after infection varied, but usually did not exceed two hours.

Li Li knocked loudly on the door, asking Jun Yueyue, “What are you doing? Are we not leaving now? What exactly happened?”

Jun Yueyue hugged Fang Anyu and barely managed to suppress her surging emotions. Holding back her sobs, she said, “There are many zombies outside now. It isn’t suitable to go out yet. Wait a while… wait two hours.”

As soon as Ji Fei heard this, she knew something was wrong with Jun Yueyue. Thinking of what had just happened when Fang Anyu was pounced on, she quickly realised he might have been bitten.

Fang Anyan clearly guessed it too.

The way he looked at Ji Fei was like a homeless puppy. Tears kept circling in his eyes. Ji Fei pulled him aside and gave him water to drink.

After the three people learned that Wu Zhenfei was the one who had contacted the military, they began fawning over him in every possible way.

Ming Zhen’s face was full of disgust. Looking down from above, she said, “Little girl, where are you putting your hand? Did your mother teach you to seduce men?”

Ming Zhen’s sisters were all over Qiuhai City. Green tea, red tea, black tea—she had seen them all. This little girl’s level was truly nothing in Ming Zhen’s eyes.

Under Ming Zhen’s sharp gaze, Jiaojiao quickly withdrew her hand from Wu Zhenfei’s leg. Her face was flushed red, whether because Ji Fei had hit her or because she finally felt shame.

She had just started university. Her family circumstances were also good, and her grades in class were good too. Because she was petite and pretty, and because her name was Jiaojiao, she was regarded as the flower of the entire year. Everyone pampered her. In particular, too many boys liked her.

At school, no matter what she did, everything went smoothly. As time passed, her personality became increasingly delicate and self-important, her arrogant eyes practically growing on top of her head.

But the world had suddenly become like this. She was with her parents. She was just too scared. She was too scared. The people she was following did not treat others as people. No one protected her. That was why she had grabbed someone else to shield herself. That was why she had wanted to use some small tricks to make this man agree to take her family away with the military…

But she suddenly discovered that the tricks that had worked everywhere at school no longer worked.

These people were too hateful!

Ming Zhen sneered as she met Jiaojiao’s gaze. Then she looked at the middle-aged woman beside her, who had a numb expression.

“Keep your daughter under control. This is my husband. If she touches him again, I’ll cut off her claws…”

“Ming Zhen.”

Wu Zhenfei frowned and glanced at her.

Ming Zhen immediately bit her lip and stomped her foot angrily.

She, too, was a famous socialite in Qiuhai City. She lacked neither schemes nor methods. But when facing a bastard like Wu Zhenfei, who accepted neither soft nor hard tactics and had his whole heart set on someone else, she had humbled herself again and again.

The more she used marriage to tie him down, the more his eyes still refused to see her.

Ming Zhen looked somewhat bleakly toward the bathroom and gritted her teeth.

What was so good about that eldest miss of the Jun family?

Wasn’t her chest just a little bigger than hers? Wasn’t she just… a little more glamorous and beautiful?

Ming Zhen glared at Wu Zhenfei’s worried gaze toward the bathroom and reached out to pinch his side hard.

Wu Zhenfei could only helplessly withdraw his gaze.

Jun Yueyue hugged Fang Anyu, refusing to let go for even a moment.

Her back faced the mirror, so she could not see that the earlier dejection and panic had disappeared from Fang Anyu’s face. Instead, his expression was almost one of enjoyment.

He reached out to hug Jun Yueyue, took out his phone, and typed:

I was bitten. You should go out.

After Jun Yueyue read it, the tears she had stopped began falling again. She shook her head hard and wrapped her arms around Fang Anyu’s neck, refusing to let go.

I’ll mutate, won’t I? You said… I’ll turn into one of those monsters outside?

After reading this, Jun Yueyue did not know how to answer. Fang Anyu was so timid. He must be frightened to death.

Fang Anyu continued:

Before that happens, cut off my head. I don’t want to become like that, and I don’t want to bite you.

Jun Yueyue could no longer suppress the sound of her crying.

Fang Anyu looked at her entire face turning red from crying, crumpled together, and continued slowly typing with his long, flawless fingers.

If I die, you can leave with Anyan and the others. Don’t cry.

Those words were too strange.

But Jun Yueyue’s emotions were already completely collapsing. She thought Fang Anyu meant that he wanted her to abandon him, kill him with her own hands, and leave with the others. That it was all for her sake.

After reading it, she was practically going mad.

“I’m not leaving…” Jun Yueyue shook her head and pressed voice input. “I want to stay with you.”

But I was bitten. I’m going to become a monster, Fang Anyu continued typing.

Jun Yueyue shook her head and smiled somewhat bitterly. Hugging Fang Anyu tightly, she input:

No. It’ll be both of us becoming monsters.

As she spoke, she thought of something. She took off her outer coat and tied their hands together.

Then she typed another line for Fang Anyu to read:

Don’t be afraid. Even if we become monsters, we won’t separate.

Fang Anyu actually smiled.

His smile showed red lips and white teeth, but the meaning behind it was different from every smile before. It carried an indescribable emotion. His deep dimples appeared as he leaned close to Jun Yueyue’s lips, hooked the back of her head, and pressed down deeply.

However, the kiss slowly changed in flavour.

When Jun Yueyue was pressed against the sink, she refused at first. After all, if the two of them really turned into zombies, and people outside broke down the door and saw them dishevelled and halfway through this, then even after dying, they would have no face left.

Besides, if Fang Anyu mutated halfway through, Jun Yueyue really did not want to experience the sour, thrilling sensation of being bitten at that moment.

And even putting all that aside, this was really not a suitable time.

But one sentence Fang Anyu typed made Jun Yueyue’s face burn red, and she could not resist.

He said:

If we really are going to die, I want to die inside you, never separating from you again.

Jun Yueyue truly could not withstand Fang Anyu’s coaxing and pestering. She felt that his state was a little off, but thinking that he must be afraid, her heart softened, and she let him act recklessly.

Really, this was not a suitable opportunity.

Outside, they could hear people talking. Fang Anyu was also practically mad. Jun Yueyue gritted her teeth and endured until even her fingertips were flushed red from holding it in.

The clothes tying their wrists together rhythmically slapped against the sides of their legs. It seemed to last for a very long time, yet also not that long. The entire process was fast, without the slightest chance to catch her breath. If Fang Anyu’s hand had not been holding her waist at the end, Jun Yueyue would have fallen straight to her knees.

By the time she gathered back the three souls and seven spirits that had been knocked loose, Fang Anyu was sitting on the toilet, while she sat on top of him, her head buried against his shoulder, collapsed limply.

All the tragic grandeur in her heart, all the thoughts of staying together even in death, all the sorrowful feelings of it being no big deal to close her eyes and start over again, had been knocked away by this completely inappropriate peak that had been forcefully pushed upon her.

Jun Yueyue helplessly hugged Fang Anyu and took out her phone to look at the time.

One hour and a few minutes had passed.

Fang Anyu sat on the closed toilet lid and held her, his nimble fingers stirring through her hair. His eyelashes drooped, making it impossible to see his emotions, but Jun Yueyue somehow felt a sense of satisfaction from him, even contentment.

Like a lion that had eaten and drunk its fill, rolling over to expose its belly and bask in the sun.

Jun Yueyue pressed down this strange feeling.

Watching time pass second by second, just as a little sorrow was beginning to build up again, Fang Anyu suddenly seemed to remember something. He typed a few words and showed Jun Yueyue.

Why haven’t I changed yet? If it bit through clothes, does that make the change slower?

Jun Yueyue abruptly sat up. Staring at those words, she quickly snatched the phone and typed:

You mean, that zombie just now didn’t directly touch your skin? It bit through your coat and tore up a piece of flesh on your wrist?!

Fang Anyu hid the emotions in his eyes and widened his eyes very innocently as he nodded.

Jun Yueyue pulled open the bitten part of his wrist and looked again. It really was only torn up, without obvious teeth marks. And… and the clothing at his wrist really was not torn either.

Jun Yueyue was wild with joy.

She got up and paced around the bathroom twice, wanting to open the door. But after thinking about it, for the sake of safety, she restrained herself again. In any case, more than an hour had already passed. Waiting a few more dozen minutes would let them confirm completely.

Although she did not open the door, in her heart, she was already certain Fang Anyu would not mutate.

Jun Yueyue was so happy she did not know what to do. She hugged him and kept kissing him. Fang Anyu narrowed his eyes, hooked his arm around Jun Yueyue’s waist, and kept smiling.

When two hours had passed, a full two hours, Jun Yueyue was finally completely relieved.

The time it took to mutate after infection varied from person to person. Some took minutes, some took more than ten minutes, and some only needed a few dozen seconds.

But there had never been anyone who did not mutate after more than two hours.

So once the time was up, Jun Yueyue happily went to open the door.

But when she reached the door, Fang Anyu caught her by the waist.

Jun Yueyue turned her head to look at him in confusion.

Fang Anyu narrowed his eyes and looked down at her from above. In that instant, Jun Yueyue even felt a sense of pressure. She was startled by Fang Anyu’s aura.

Then Fang Anyu’s lips pressed down.

A little fierce.

No, very fierce.

When he let go, Jun Yueyue’s lips were numb and bright red.

Fang Anyu closed his eyes, his breathing somewhat disordered as he braced his arms on either side of Jun Yueyue. The corners of his mouth lifted slightly. In that instant, the hairs on the back of Jun Yueyue’s neck almost stood up. She swallowed.

Only then did Fang Anyu slowly open his eyes.

Jun Yueyue pressed tightly against the door and met Fang Anyu’s clear gaze. The hairs that had stood up all collapsed back down again.

His eyes were bright and gentle, as always.

He typed on his phone for Jun Yueyue to see:

Sorry. I couldn’t control myself. I was too happy.

Jun Yueyue was actually so happy she wanted to jump up too. How lucky did someone have to be to be bitten by a zombie and not become infected?

She touched her lips, stood on tiptoe, and kissed Fang Anyu’s chin.

Only then did she open the door.

The people outside had practically all guessed it.

As soon as Jun Yueyue and Fang Anyu came out, Jun Yu and Fang Anyan spoke at the same time.

“Brother…”

“Sister…”

Jun Yueyue simply explained directly, “After being bitten by a zombie, the infection time varies from person to person, but it won’t exceed two hours.”

Jun Yueyue looked coldly at the little girl who had pushed Fang Anyu earlier and said, “Anyu was bitten. But he was only bitten through his clothes, without direct contact. He was also isolated for two hours and didn’t become infected. The possibility of mutation has already been ruled out.”

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Wu Zhenfei was about to get up and come over, but Ming Zhen pulled him back.

Fang Anyan checked Fang Anyu’s injury and finally let out a huge breath of relief.

Jun Yu told Jun Yueyue that they still could not contact Old Master Jun. Jun Yueyue comforted her. Old Master Jun lived in a private sanatorium and was already in the final stage of cancer. For their wedding, they had only sent him a video. That place was very strictly sealed. As long as the nurses taking care of him had no problems, there would be no issue.

In truth, even if nothing happened to Old Master Jun, he did not have many days left. From some time ago, the private doctor had already told them several times to prepare themselves.

Jun Yu held Jun Yueyue while Jun Yueyue stroked her hair for a while. Her emotions temporarily calmed down.

Jun Yueyue untied the clothes around her and Fang Anyu’s wrists, put them back on, then pressed Fang Anyu down to sit on the sofa. Only then did she begin discussing things with the others.

“The car is downstairs. If we go down directly now, there’ll definitely be many zombies downstairs. We’ll still have to use the same diversion tactic,” Jun Yueyue said. “But this car isn’t suitable for leaving the city. Not only does it use a lot of fuel, but the storage space is too small.”

Ji Fei nodded. “Right. There isn’t much fuel left.”

“Then we need to find a bigger vehicle. But bigger than an off-road vehicle would be a truck,” Fang Anyan said. “When we came here, I saw some trucks parked along the road. I don’t know whether we can find the keys.”

Li Li shook his head. “Box trucks won’t work either. The space is too small. Some of us would have to sit in the cargo box, and even changing shifts would be difficult.”

Jun Yu also spoke. “I know there’s a freight station in Qiuhai City. They’re all large trucks.”

Jun Yueyue immediately said, “It has to be a large truck. A large truck is just right. On the way back, we’ll also need to find a way to collect supplies. We still don’t know the exact situation at the resort. It’s already open, and there are many guests staying there with families. If they haven’t mutated, that’s fine. If they have, clearing them out will take some time. During that time, we don’t know whether we’ll be able to reach a place with a supermarket.”

As she spoke, Jun Yueyue could not help glaring at Li Li.

“There isn’t much stock left inside either. You donated it all!”

“You’re talking nonsense! How was I supposed to know? With so many things stockpiled, if we didn’t donate them, were we supposed to leave them to grow mould?!” Li Li stiffened his neck and was about to say more, but Jun Yu tugged his sleeve.

His mouth shut immediately, faster than a zip.

Jun Yueyue glanced at Jun Yu.

Jun Yu shyly let go of his sleeve.

The group continued discussing. In the end, they decided to first try throwing objects from a high place down below. It was still the old method: smash a car and attract the zombies.

During this time, the family of three stayed fairly quiet. They all sat close to Wu Zhenfei and Ming Zhen’s sofa, but Wu Zhenfei kept trying to cut in, only to be deliberately ignored by everyone.

But when they had decided on a plan and were about to carry it out, Wu Zhenfei could not hold back anymore. He stepped forward, pulled Jun Yueyue, and said, “Yueyue, don’t be impulsive. I’ve already contacted the people coming to pick me up. They’ll be here very soon. Come with us.”

Ming Zhen bit her lip.

Jun Yueyue had deliberately avoided Wu Zhenfei. She could be harsh and fierce toward a little girl who had nearly caused someone’s death, even attack her. But she could not bring herself to speak cruelly to someone who sincerely meant well for her.

Facing Wu Zhenfei’s anxious, worried gaze, Jun Yueyue opened her mouth and was just about to say something when she heard a loud crash.

Everyone turned their heads.

They saw Fang Anyu looking blankly at the chandelier shattered all over the floor. The place where he stood was less than one step away from where the chandelier had fallen.

Jun Yueyue was so frightened her pulse almost stopped. She flung Wu Zhenfei away and rushed toward Fang Anyu.

At the same time, all the lights in the room began to sway slightly.

To make matters worse, there was an earthquake.
