The Problem Is Big — Panic Is Required
The drawbridge opened. As long as sound came from this side, the zombies on the other side would be attracted over. Aside from the ability users, the square had been cleared out, and every ability user had been given some chains to use after they caught zombies, so they could lock them up.
They deliberately made noise on this side, and the zombies soon came toward them. When the ability users saw the zombies coming along the bridge, their first instinct was to strike hard. But this time, the mission was not extermination. It was capturing them alive. After they were captured, they would be used for the ordinary people to practise against. So very quickly, everyone—especially powerful ability users like Fang Anyan—simply gave up using abilities and chose close combat capture instead.
The ability users were quite well protected. Some people went onto the drawbridge first to catch the zombies. Once most of the zombies had been drawn into the base, the drawbridge was raised, and only then did everyone rush forward.
Throughout the entire process, Jun Yueyue hid behind Fang Anyu. If Fang Anyu’s ability to control zombies had not been especially obvious before, this time everyone deeply understood what true control meant.
Once they put aside those flashy abilities, the close-combat ability users were not exactly relaxed either. After all, zombies were like perpetual-motion machines. As long as their core power source—their brains—was not cracked open, they practically did not get tired or faint. They also could not break their arms or legs, because they had to ensure the zombies still had combat ability after being captured. Only then could they be used for training.
So everyone treated the task very seriously.
But compared with them, Fang Anyu merely stood there cleanly in that dazzlingly showy outfit, not even approaching the edge of the zombies. No one knew what kind of command he sent, but the two zombies beside him picked up chains and tried to put them around themselves.
Since they were dead bodies after all, their limbs were still not very flexible and were somewhat stiff. Chaining themselves up was very difficult. So the two zombies silently looked at each other, then took the chains and began chaining each other instead.
Standing behind Fang Anyu, Jun Yueyue experienced the sour thrill of dating the master of the world.
This time, even Ji Fei, who was usually steady and never easily affected by anyone else’s public displays of affection, could not help cursing when she saw this scene.
Jun Yueyue had rich experience fighting zombies, all of it honed on the edge of life and death. So it did not matter much if she did not join the practice at a time like this. On the contrary, Fang Anyu handled her share of zombies for her, while she stood at the side and directed everyone—how to dodge the zombies’ brute strength, how to twist their joints to subdue them.
With an experienced “teacher” giving on-site guidance, everyone caught a zombie. The extra ones were killed directly and burned on the spot by Fang Anyan. The next task was to pull out the zombies’ teeth and remove their nails.
Two strength-type ability users were assigned to this. This kind of task did not need much instruction. After all the captured zombies were dealt with, they were locked inside a small warehouse and chained up. Without teeth and nails, they basically had no killing power. After their skin was briefly rinsed of blood and rotten patches, they were put into training the next day.
Of course, apart from this, the ability users also began formal training. As the instructor, Jun Yueyue spent every day with the ability users. The training process was mostly repeatedly exhausting their abilities. Each time their abilities were drained dry, the energy that accumulated again afterward would change greatly.
For strength and speed types, everything depended on combat practice. As the best among this type and also the instructor, Jun Yueyue ended each day utterly exhausted and covered in sweat.
However, among everyone, Fang Anyu was an exception. His ability could not really be exhausted inside the base. Controlling the zombies on the other side of the drawbridge was too far away, and his wood-type ability had to be consumed through healing or making plants grow. After he had treated every sick person in the base, he could only spend his days with several aunties, burying his head in the base’s vegetable patch, helping all kinds of seeds sprout, seedlings grow, and fruit ripen.
Jun Yueyue could not see him during the day. She only saw Fang Anyu when she returned home at night. But Fang Anyu never made her wait. Every time she came home, Fang Anyu seemed to have timed it perfectly. The food would always be warm to exactly the right degree.
And after dinner, what often followed was an extremely soul-melting intimacy. At first, Jun Yueyue was too tired and really had no mood for it, but she could not bear to reject Fang Anyu. After it happened a couple of times, however, she discovered that being intimate with Fang Anyu did not drain her energy. In fact, after reaching the peak, she would even feel refreshed, as if running ten laps around the resort would be no problem.
Right now, it was the middle of the night, so late even the dogs were asleep. Jun Yueyue released her hand from the corner of the blanket and let it hang comfortably over the edge of the kang. Her head tilted against the pillow, eyes narrowed as she remained dizzy in the afterglow. After a long while, she finally said in a muffled voice, “Did you use healing again? If you keep doing this, you’ll make me feel like I’m a fox spirit absorbing people’s vital essence…”
Fang Anyu leaned over her back, enveloping her whole body beneath him. The blanket only covered them from the waist down, blocking off the most beautiful and intimate scenery, but the faintly visible lines below his waist were still clear. Damp with sweat, he looked like a ripe honey peach.
He did not respond. He only kissed Jun Yueyue’s shoulder densely and softly. After a long while, still not getting up, he reached for the phone and typed to ask her:
—How do you feel? Are you still tired? Want to go again?
Jun Yueyue burst out laughing. “Are you showing off your ability to me? Let me tell you, there’s no land that can’t be ploughed, only oxen that die from exhaustion.”
Fang Anyu also showed a faint smile and continued typing:
—I can’t see you during the day. At night, after we finish, you sleep like a dead pig. I miss you so much.
Jun Yueyue shook with laughter. She turned her head back toward Fang Anyu and said, “Could you please get up? It’s almost two o’clock. I can see you don’t want me to get up tomorrow.”
Only then did Fang Anyu reluctantly get up. After the two of them washed and changed the blankets, it was almost half past two. Jun Yueyue could not quite describe how she felt. Her whole body felt numb and tingling, as if electricity had just run through it. If she said she was tired, she also felt very energetic, as if she could carry a giant cauldron and spin around with it. But if she said she was not tired, her bones felt so soft she wanted to rest.
Fang Anyu, however, looked very energetic. Perhaps because of his wood-type ability, he really was like what Jun Yueyue had heard before: the stronger a wood-type ability user was, the more refined and tender their appearance became. Every day, Jun Yueyue looked at a group of rough men, and every time she returned home and saw Fang Anyu, she felt he looked like a piece of soft tofu.
But for some reason, he was very stubborn. The old scars on his body, whether from bumps or bites, had all disappeared without a trace. Only the scar on his face remained, flesh-pink, clearly because he himself refused to remove it.
Jun Yueyue did not mind. As long as he was happy.
Only, when she lay on the kang, dazed and about to sleep, Fang Anyu poked her and showed her the words he had typed:
—I ripened a whole patch of tomatoes today. They were planted by tourists at the resort before. I’ll cook them for you tomorrow.
“Okay,” Jun Yueyue said after glancing at it. “My husband is the best.”
She was dazed and about to fall asleep when Fang Anyu poked her again:
—I’m planning to ripen cucumbers tomorrow. The auntie in charge of watering said her back has always been bad. I healed her.
Jun Yueyue stroked Fang Anyu’s soft hair and said again, “Wow… so amazing.”
By now, it was already obvious that she was being perfunctory. But Fang Anyu had too little time to see Jun Yueyue during the day. He had so many things he wanted to tell her. Before long, he poked her again.
At three o’clock, when Jun Yueyue was woken by his poking for the nth time, she finally lost her temper.
“Big brother, when I came back today, it was half past twelve. We ate at one. Then before I even had time to digest, you pressed me down and did me for over an hour,” Jun Yueyue said irritably. “You’re telling me even when you fart. Are you going to let me sleep or not?”
Fang Anyu trembled slightly from being shouted at by Jun Yueyue. He pressed his lips together and put down the phone. Sure enough, he did not call Jun Yueyue again.
Not only that, the next morning, Jun Yueyue left hungry. She did not see Fang Anyu at all. Every morning, this man would usually cling to her for a while before he was willing to leave.
But Jun Yueyue did not think much of it. She assumed he had gone out early.
Only when she returned home at night and found the room pitch-black—not only was there no hot meal waiting for her, even the door would not open—did she realise the situation was serious.
She was certain Fang Anyu was home because the door was locked from the inside. The problem was exactly there. There was no light inside, and no matter how she called, he would not open the door.
At first, she thought something had happened. It was only when Jun Yueyue leaned against the window and saw Fang Anyu lying on the bed playing with his phone, and after seeing her, he even turned over with his back to her, that she finally relaxed. She was both amused and helpless as she guessed what was going on.
“Open the door, darling. I specially came back early today just to keep you company,” Jun Yueyue said, knocking on the window.
In truth, with her strength, taking apart the window or the door would not be a huge problem.
But of course Jun Yueyue would not do that. This place counted as her and Fang Anyu’s first home. Naturally, she had to cherish her own home properly. Besides, the main issue was not whether she could get inside. It was whether Fang Anyu’s anger had faded.
If Jun Yueyue did not think back on it, it was fine. But once she recalled her attitude last night, it had indeed been bad. He had been so happy telling her those things. If she would not listen, who else could he talk to?
Besides, it was not that she truly disliked listening. She had just been too sleepy, so her attitude had been poor. She swore that in future, even if she died of sleepiness or fainted, she absolutely would not shout at him again.
But Jun Yueyue’s curses and vows had no visible effect. This time, Fang Anyu was determined not to open the door for her.
It was now past ten at night. The sky was dark, with no stars or moon, proving that someone’s mood was not good.
The problem was big.
Panic was required.
By eleven o’clock, Jun Yueyue had said every good thing she could outside, but Fang Anyu still refused to open the door. Completely helpless, Jun Yueyue knocked on Fang Anyan and Ji Fei’s door opposite.
Fortunately, the two of them had not yet slept. After Jun Yueyue entered, both of them were very surprised to see her. Ji Fei asked, “Why are you here so late? Is something wrong?”
The face Ji Fei was wearing right now was not her own. It was the face of an extremely charming woman, with a tear mole under one eye that made people feel especially sorry for her.
And not only that, the slopes before her chest had become towering mountains. Very spectacular.
Jun Yueyue knew she might have arrived at a bad time. The married couple had been playing a transformation party, and she had come at the wrong moment. No wonder Fang Anyan looked impatient.
Jun Yueyue barely dragged her gaze away from the enormous mountains on Ji Fei’s chest, which seemed ready to shake loose with the slightest movement, and smiled bitterly. “Anyu shut me outside.”
“Hm?” Ji Fei blinked a few times, clearly not believing such a thing.
Fang Anyan also frowned slightly. “What?”
“Anyu won’t let me into the room. I offended him.” Jun Yueyue smiled bitterly. “I’ve been standing outside for more than an hour. He’s inside playing on his phone and won’t open the door for me.”
Ji Fei laughed. Never mind that they had known each other before—even now, in the base, who did not know Fang Anyu was famously easy to talk to, gentle and friendly? Even the children in the base liked playing with him.
Moreover, when it came to his combination with Jun Yueyue, in Ji Fei’s view, Jun Yueyue had always been the more dominant one. Whenever Fang Anyu was with Jun Yueyue, his eyes never looked elsewhere. This was the first time Ji Fei had seen someone love another person to this degree.
Would he throw a temper at Jun Yueyue?
That was practically no different from the sun rising at night.
Fang Anyan was obviously surprised too. But he unconditionally stood on his brother’s side, so the first thing he asked was, “How did you provoke him?”
Jun Yueyue was also very helpless. After roughly explaining what had happened last night, Fang Anyan frowned. “He never talks to anyone else. He doesn’t even talk to me. If you can’t even accompany him while he talks, why did you provoke him in the first place?”
Jun Yueyue: …
This damn brother-con. Fuck!
Ji Fei smiled and said something fair. “Anyan, you’ve seen how busy Jun Yueyue has been recently. Saying that is a bit biased. If someone wouldn’t let you sleep at night, wouldn’t you get annoyed too?”
Fang Anyan moved his lips, and his arrogance immediately disappeared. The tips of his ears reddened slightly. After thinking for a moment, he said, “My brother likes you so much. If you go stand there a little longer, he’ll soften.”
But Ji Fei said, “Don’t listen to him. If it really doesn’t work, stay here. Let Anyan go over there. Your man definitely won’t refuse to open the door to him.”
Fang Anyan immediately said, “No! She was the one who provoked him. Why should I go coax him? Besides, I still need to rest. Solve your own family affairs yourself.”
After saying that, he coldly and heartlessly tried to chase Jun Yueyue away. Ji Fei pulled him back.
Jun Yueyue clicked her tongue and said, “Fine, I won’t disturb you two. I’ll go stand there a while longer. He’ll definitely soften.”
After Jun Yueyue came out from their room, she went back and continued knocking on the door. By now, it was already midnight. Although Fang Anyu had drawn the curtains, she could still tell he was not asleep. The faint glow of his phone shone from behind the curtains.
At this point, the signal was gone. The outside must have lost power by now. Otherwise, Jun Yueyue could at least send Fang Anyu a message or call him to apologize. Now she could only squat by the window, shivering in the cold wind.
But she did not have any negative emotions and really did not think Fang Anyu was being unreasonable. In Jun Yueyue’s view, this kind of thing was just a very normal little quarrel between a young couple. Although most of the time, it was the man who got locked outside and was not allowed in, forced to say all kinds of nice things, swear oaths, and write guarantees. But Fang Anyu did not smoke, drink, look at other women, go gather with friends, or wander outside until returning home in the middle of the night. She had no opportunity to make a fuss.
His thoughts were too delicate. He had never done anything that made her unhappy. Compared with him, Jun Yueyue’s nerves were thick enough for horses to run across.
What else could she do after making him unhappy?
Endure it.
She actually quite liked this occasional ripple, and the way Fang Anyu threw a small temper.
The fact that he would do this meant his heart was no longer as insecure as before. He felt she would not leave him, and that was why he dared to act like this. Weren’t people all like this? There was nothing bad about it.
Jun Yueyue sat in the pavilion in the courtyard, looking at the faint stars gradually appearing in the sky. She held her face and watched them. Maybe once all the stars came out, she would be able to go inside.
“What would’ve happened if I’d stayed up a little later and chatted with him a little longer…” Jun Yueyue was now very regretful. Extremely regretful. She really should not have been fierce to Fang Anyu last night. As a result, today she had a home she could not return to and no food to eat.
She should have shamelessly gotten something to eat from Fang Anyan’s place just now.
But speaking of which, Ji Fei’s ability was truly amazing. Fang Anyan must be living beautifully—changing into someone new every day and becoming a groom every night…
Of course, unlike what she imagined, Ji Fei found it fresh and interesting, but Fang Anyan did not like her turning into other appearances at all.
“Change back, okay, Feifei?” With the lights dimmed, Fang Anyan still could not adapt. “I don’t feel anything when you’re like this… It’s like I’m holding a stranger.”
“Don’t you like faces like pointed awls and chests like buttocks?” Ji Fei narrowed her eyes. “I heard you had something with Jun Yu before and almost got engaged. Do you like her type?”
Ji Fei shrugged indifferently. “If you feel something for that type, I can turn into that. I can even turn into her.”
Fang Anyan was truly struck by lightning. He immediately covered Ji Fei’s mouth. “What on earth are you saying?”
“I don’t even know what type I like. When you got cosmetic surgery that time, I randomly picked photos. How many times have I said this?”
Fang Anyan was irritable. “Stop playing. I don’t like any type. Really. I only like you.”
Ji Fei laughed. “You’re the one refusing such a good opportunity.”
Ji Fei slowly changed back into herself. When Fang Anyan saw this, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to kiss her, Ji Fei said again, “Hey, why didn’t you awaken this kind of ability? If you had, I could choose a look I liked…”
Fang Anyan froze. He glared at Ji Fei and hammered the pillow hard. Annoyed, he said, “Not doing it anymore!”
After saying this, he turned over, lay down, and faced away from Ji Fei with his eyes closed.
Ji Fei froze for a moment. She really did not care about such things. Her definition of loyalty was different from Fang Anyan’s. She was not, after all, an ordinary little girl who would feel sad over a boyfriend’s tiny bit of neglect. Of course, she liked Fang Anyan very much. What she required was that Fang Anyan be loyal to her and loyal to their marriage. As long as he was loyal to her, that was enough. She did not mind satisfying his fantasies about other people behind closed doors. After all, people were changeable.
Of course, the premise was that the person he fantasized about was based on her. When she had said that if Fang Anyan dared betray her, she would shoot him, that was not actually true.
As long as he did not cheat and hide it from her, as long as he openly told her that he had fallen for another woman, Ji Fei would not go crazy and would not kill him. There was no need to force someone who did not like her. From a very young age, she had no dependent personality. She did not fear death, did not fear pain, and would not allow herself to sink into grief.
Fang Anyan’s personality happened to be the exact opposite of hers. The fact that the two of them could be together counted as a miracle.
He was conservative, traditional at his core. Because he was traditional, he was attracted by Ji Fei’s boldness, but he could not actually play that wildly. Aside from Ji Fei, he had never had another woman. If Ji Fei changed into someone else and wanted him to adapt, he truly could not.
What she had just said about wanting him to turn into someone else had deeply wounded Fang Anyan’s heart.
So now Ji Fei could not coax him. Fang Anyan faced her with his backside and pretended to sleep. She felt that although she was lying on the kang, in essence, she was exactly the same as Jun Yueyue squatting outside in the pavilion.
Jun Yueyue looked down at her watch and estimated that she probably would not be able to get inside tonight. Fine. Tomorrow, she would take a day off and properly accompany him.
The seasons had stopped changing even before the apocalypse. Now that Jun Yueyue thought about it, even though the apocalypse had not arrived then, the fact that the seasons were not changing should have been a warning.
But now things had already become like this, so it no longer mattered. All the plants were growing madly out of season. This also caused mosquitoes and insects to run rampant. Fortunately, zombies did not attract flies. For some unknown reason, after the apocalypse, flies had become extremely rare. There was also no situation where zombies grew maggots. Otherwise, really, just imagining it would be fucking unbearable.
But mosquitoes were still extremely tenacious. One generation after another, they had never stopped breeding. Jun Yueyue had been outside for so long and had already been bitten several times. Usually, she would not be bitten. When she was beside Fang Anyu, no insects or ants would approach her at all. It was magical.
But now, her little darling was ignoring her. She had already had several tubes of blood sucked by mosquitoes. Originally, since the weather was warm, even if she could not get into the room and had to make do outside for a night, it would not matter. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes had now led an army to target her. As long as she stopped moving, they would swarm her. The buzzing sounded like a lot of bombers circling by her ears.
Jun Yueyue glanced into the room again and found that the faint light had disappeared. The ruthless Beauty Yu had really gone to sleep. She considered finding a place to borrow for the night.
Thinking back on the base’s accommodation situation, Jun Yueyue thought of the mother and daughter pair who had been constantly showing goodwill to her, thanking her for dealing with those three little beasts a few days ago.
Most of the people from that group had been settled in the hotel accommodation area. But this mother and daughter had taken the initiative to stay on this side. Usually, they helped Jun Yu with tasks and also looked after the vegetable garden.
After thinking it over, Jun Yueyue felt that at this hour, even if she disturbed them, it would be fine. The only people who could take her in for one night were probably Xu Zhou and Yueya.
Jun Yueyue leaned against the window and looked again. Fang Anyu seemed to have fallen asleep, so she did not disturb him further. Waving away the mosquitoes around her, she quietly walked out of the courtyard.
Fang Anyu lay on the pillow, biting the blanket. The moment Jun Yueyue left the courtyard, the climbing roses by the gate scrambled to start shouting, “She left, she left, she left!”
The breeze blew past, and the flowers trembled and swayed. All of them were jumping up and down, shaking their heads and shouting. But normal people absolutely could not hear this. This was what Fang Anyu had wanted to tell Jun Yueyue last night. Not only could he use the leaves growing on his own body, he could now use other plants to listen to this world.
Fang Anyu had actually been about to be unable to hold on. He had even started biting the corner of the blanket. But the moment Jun Yueyue left, he sat up with a whoosh. As he spread out his ability, the climbing vines along the entire street became his spies, reporting wherever Jun Yueyue went.
At first, Fang Anyu had not planned to follow. He had guessed where Jun Yueyue would go to spend the night. Although he was angry, he decided to leave her hanging for one more night. Tomorrow, she might take the day off to coax him. Fang Anyu very much wanted to cling to her for an entire day.
Of course, even if Jun Yueyue did not take the day off tomorrow, Fang Anyu would forgive her. Because being able to hold out until tomorrow was already his limit.
But just as Fang Anyu was about to lie down, a rose on a climbing vine in the distance suddenly said, “Ah! She’s talking to two people!”
This voice stood out especially among the many roses reporting that she had turned a corner or stopped. Fang Anyu drove the little roses to describe the appearance of the man and woman, and then he could no longer stay inside the room.
When Fang Anyu went out, Jun Yueyue was standing at a corner, looking at a man and woman tugging at each other in the night.
Of course, generally speaking, men and women who came out in the middle of the night like this were people who had taken a liking to each other during the day. No matter what they were doing, interrupting them would be tactless.
This world was already very bitter. Surviving in such a world meant every extra day was earned. Falling in love through hardship was originally a beautiful thing.
However, after clearly seeing the two people under the roadside light, Jun Yueyue no longer felt it was beautiful.
“Brother Zhenfei, what I said just now was all serious.” The woman’s voice was delicate and sweet, both unfamiliar and familiar to Jun Yueyue. Was this not Jiaojiao, the girl who had entered the base with Wu Zhenfei before?
The reason Jun Yueyue found it unfamiliar was that although she knew this person existed, she had not paid attention to her for a long time. Ever since entering the base, Jiaojiao seemed to have always behaved herself. She probably knew she was annoying and was afraid of Jun Yueyue, so she rarely appeared in front of her.
Now Jiaojiao’s eyes were filled with tears as she grabbed Wu Zhenfei’s arm… confessing her feelings?
“There really was nothing between me and Uncle Zhang,” Jiaojiao said. “Afterward, I… the reason I did that was to save you! He said he was going to abandon you and Sister Ming Zhen! That was why I…”
Wu Zhenfei stood with his back to Jun Yueyue. He pulled his arm free from Jiaojiao’s hand and stayed silent for a moment before saying, “Whatever happened between you two has nothing to do with me. You’ve been pestering me for a long time. If you sneak into my room again, I’ll report it.”
“How can you be like this?” Jiaojiao began sobbing softly. “If not for me, you definitely would have died in the zombie horde, just like Ming Zhen! You can’t treat me like this—”
As she spoke, she reached out to pull Wu Zhenfei again.
Wu Zhenfei violently shook her off. “Enough!”
This was the first time Jun Yueyue had seen Wu Zhenfei speak so sharply. He was actually very gentle by nature.
“Don’t mention her! Don’t use that mouth of yours to mention her!” Wu Zhenfei stepped back several paces, just happening to walk behind the climbing vines where Jun Yueyue was hiding. “For me? You did it to survive yourself. That’s why you willingly got involved with… If you really did it for me, I would rather have died in that zombie horde!”
“How can you say that!” Jiaojiao’s voice became somewhat shrill. Wu Zhenfei turned his head and was about to leave, but suddenly his arm was grabbed. It startled him so much that he shuddered and instinctively moved to attack, only for Jun Yueyue to easily neutralise it.
“Yueyue?” When Wu Zhenfei saw that the person pulling him was Jun Yueyue, he immediately relaxed. But then he very quickly tensed again and explained, “I only came back late and happened to run into her. There’s nothing between me and her…”
“I know,” Jun Yueyue interrupted him and looked past him, frowning at Jiaojiao.
When Jiaojiao discovered Jun Yueyue, the disgusting expression she had shown toward Wu Zhenfei earlier disappeared completely. She became like a little quail, clearly wanting to circle around them and leave.
Jun Yueyue called out, “Stop right there.”
Jiaojiao trembled and stopped. She turned back, so frightened that her face was somewhat pale. To this day, she still remembered how, at the drawbridge entrance of the base that day, Jun Yueyue had crushed a boy’s throat bone with her bare hand, and no one had dared to stop her.
“What… what is it? I’m going back to sleep.” Jiaojiao’s voice had completely lost the tone from earlier. Jun Yueyue tugged at Wu Zhenfei’s clothes, and Wu Zhenfei followed behind her. Together, they walked in front of Jiaojiao.
Jun Yueyue said, “I understood what you two were saying just now. I don’t know what exactly happened the day you encountered the zombie horde. Wu Zhenfei said he fainted, so he doesn’t know either. Zhang is dead, so everything depends on your mouth.”
“You know in your own heart whether what you said is true or false. In any case, the dead can’t testify,” Jun Yueyue said. “But… you said you were willing to get tangled up with an old man who could have been your father in order to save Wu Zhenfei. Little sister, do you really not know why flowers are so red?”
“What? You saw that he mutated and gained an ability, so now you want to use this rotten excuse to climb onto him?” She pointed at Jiaojiao’s forehead. “Do you really think everyone is as fucking stupid as you?”
“I’m warning you. In this place, I have the final say. If I kill you now and throw you away, no one will care,” Jun Yueyue said. “If you’re lucky enough to keep your dog life, then properly keep surviving. If you dare target my friend again, or sneak into rooms, you’re seeking death.”
Jiaojiao began trembling under Jun Yueyue’s words. She did not dare look at Wu Zhenfei again. Jun Yueyue stared at her. The incident where Jiaojiao pushed Fang Anyu had always been something Jun Yueyue could not get over in her heart. But that matter had passed. Jiaojiao had not committed anything else, and Jun Yueyue was not some murder maniac.
She stared until cold sweat broke out on Jiaojiao’s back. When Jun Yueyue finally spat out the word “Scram,” Jiaojiao practically crawled and stumbled away.
Jun Yueyue turned to look at Wu Zhenfei. “When you encountered the zombies, how did you pass out?”
“I was holding a gun then, but I couldn’t shoot very accurately. The driver got bitten, and his foot stepped on the accelerator. I was hit by the truck panel… and knocked unconscious.”
Wu Zhenfei found this very hard to say, because it was truly too useless.
Jun Yueyue frowned and did not ask further. As she continued walking forward, she said, “That girl’s heart isn’t right. If she keeps pestering you, go report her to Jun Yu. There will be punishment.”
Wu Zhenfei followed behind Jun Yueyue, staring at her the whole time. A few days ago, during actual combat with zombies, he had also accidentally awakened an ability. Although it was still very weak, he had already been transferred from the ordinary group to the ability-user group. Every day, Jun Yueyue specially helped him make up the techniques he had missed. Wu Zhenfei felt truly moved and happy.
Where the heart leaned was something that could not be controlled. He had liked Jun Yue since childhood. So many years had passed, and he was still the same. It was just that Jun Yueyue had never been willing to turn back and look at him.
In fact, before the apocalypse, he had already brought up divorce with Ming Zhen. It was his family and Ming Zhen who had schemed against him, drugging his drink. Afterward, they used Ming Zhen’s pregnancy as an excuse to force them together. The moment Wu Zhenfei learned it was a trap, he had already drafted a divorce agreement.
But then the apocalypse came. His divorce agreement had not been signed. Now Ming Zhen had unfortunately… and Fang Anyu and Jun Yueyue’s relationship looked so good. He had already stopped thinking about it. Truly stopped thinking about it.
But these days, he saw her almost every day. She was so capable, so brave, still like when they were little and she had taken him to climb walls and skip class, fearing neither heaven nor earth. Wu Zhenfei had already done his utmost to suppress it.
Yet today, she suddenly appeared. In such a quiet night, she walked this stretch of road with him. His heart and feelings, suppressed for so long, rekindled from dead ashes and drowned him irresistibly.
Wu Zhenfei steadied his breathing and asked, “Why are you here?”
Jun Yueyue paused. She did not say that she could not get into her own house. She only said, “I’m going to find Xu Zhou about something.”
“So late…” Wu Zhenfei asked again. “Is it important?”
“Mm.” Jun Yueyue answered vaguely. “You’re home. Go back.”
Jun Yueyue stopped and turned to look at Wu Zhenfei. After thinking for a moment, she still said, “Your personality is too soft. It’s been like that since childhood. That Jiaojiao pestering you isn’t the first time, right? You need to be firmer. That kind of person has no shame.”
Wu Zhenfei looked up at Jun Yueyue and made a sound of agreement.
Jun Yueyue waved at him. Thinking of how desperately he had trained during this period, and how she could see that he had lost more than a little weight, she added, “Don’t train so late in the future. You don’t actually need to rush so much.”
Wu Zhenfei agreed again. When Jun Yueyue turned her head, she could not help saying, “Don’t really get fooled by what Jiaojiao said. I think she’s lying. Ming Zhen… I’m sorry about what happened. But even if you really like someone else in the future, it can’t be Jiaojiao.”
In truth, Jun Yueyue had always considered Wu Zhenfei a friend. Across two lifetimes, the only one who could be considered her friend—excluding those disreputable drinking buddies—was Wu Zhenfei.
If not for his feelings, Jun Yueyue would not have deliberately avoided him.
Wu Zhenfei agreed again, his heart pounding so hard it felt like it was about to explode. His voice floated slightly as he said, “I never liked Ming Zhen…”
“They tricked me. That’s why I…”
Wu Zhenfei met Jun Yueyue’s gaze and could not continue. Ming Zhen was already dead. None of this had any meaning anymore.
But he really wanted to know why Jun Yueyue simply did not like him.
If he asked directly, Jun Yueyue definitely would not answer. Wu Zhenfei had always felt very unwilling. He and Fang Anyu were clearly the same type. He used to think Jun Yueyue did not like him because his personality was too soft. But later, she found someone even softer, and he became confused.
“I can like anyone, as long as it isn’t her?” Wu Zhenfei asked, as if possessed. But he did not dare raise his head or look into Jun Yueyue’s eyes.
Jun Yueyue really did think that way. As long as Wu Zhenfei did not get involved with Jiaojiao, Jun Yueyue genuinely felt it would be good if he could walk out from Ming Zhen’s matter. After all, being alive meant looking forward.
So she casually said, “Yes. Anyone but her. Hurry up and go back to sleep.”
After saying this, Jun Yueyue turned to leave. She had not expected Wu Zhenfei to suddenly grab her. Even less had she expected that when she turned her head, Wu Zhenfei would ignore everything and kiss her.
Because she was too shocked, she did not dodge in time.
Then, something happened that shocked Jun Yueyue so much her eyeballs almost fell out.
Wu Zhenfei had only quickly pressed against the side of her face. But Jun Yueyue looked past Wu Zhenfei and saw Fang Anyu standing among the dark climbing roses, his expression incomparably gloomy.
