Yu Wan made Yu Diandian a special dog food—nutritious and delicious. After she finished making it, she put it in Yu Diandian’s dining area. Just then, the doorbell rang.
Yu Wan wiped her hands and ran to open the door.
“Hello, your takeaway.”
Yu Wan took her lunch from the delivery man. As she did, she subconsciously glanced at the people coming and going from the flat opposite hers. She couldn’t help thinking: why was this neighbour’s moving process taking so long? This was already the fourth day she had seen people from the furniture company coming over.
“Thank you. How much is it?”
“Thirty-five in total.”
“Okay.” Yu Wan put the takeaway to the side and felt around her pockets, only then realising that she was wearing pyjamas. “Um, please wait a moment. I need to go to my room and get my wallet.”
“Sure.”
Yu Wan searched around her room for a while before finally finding her wallet. It was all because she usually threw her things around messily.
She pulled out a fifty from her wallet and hurriedly came out to hand it to the delivery man.
“Here’s your change. Please order again next time.” After saying that, the delivery man left. Yu Wan carried her takeaway toward the dining room.
“Your Highness, have you already finished eating? Was it so delicious you couldn’t stand it?” As Yu Wan ate her own takeaway, she still didn’t forget to interact with Yu Diandian.
However, after calling it several times, she still didn’t hear a response. Yu Wan looked strangely toward Yu Diandian’s special dining area. If she hadn’t looked, she wouldn’t have known. But once she looked, she nearly jumped out of her skin!
Yu Wan immediately sprang up from her chair. Pointing in that direction, she said in a trembling voice, “You! You! How are you here?!”
Yu Wan ran over and pulled Yu Diandian behind her. “You’re Hongdou? That’s right, that’s right. I wouldn’t mistake you. Where did you come from?”
Of course Hongdou could not answer her. But what made Yu Wan even more confused was that Yu Diandian struggled and squeezed over to Hongdou’s side.
“You two… what are you doing?!”
What did this mean? Was Yu Diandian starting a romance?
Yu Wan found it a little hard to accept.
Hongdou barked twice, then suddenly very obediently rubbed against Yu Wan’s leg a couple of times before looking up at her with an adorably innocent expression. Yu Wan already had no resistance when it came to dogs, let alone such a cute, well-raised Samoyed. Being looked at like this, her heart almost melted.
“Are you trying to win over your future mother-in-law?” Yu Wan said, pursing her lips.
“Woof!”
“Hmph. My Highness isn’t that easy to chase.” Although Yu Wan’s tone was unfriendly, she still crouched down and patted Hongdou on the head.
Hongdou gave an “awoo” and leaned into Yu Diandian’s bowl, starting to eat the nutritious lunch Yu Wan had personally made. Yu Wan raised her brows in surprise. This was Yu Diandian’s favourite food, yet watching Hongdou eat it, Yu Diandian actually didn’t throw a fit.
Don’t tell her this was true love?
Hongdou ate happily. A portion meant for one dog was naturally finished very quickly by two dogs. Looking at Hongdou’s satisfied expression, Yu Wan suddenly remembered the original question.
“Wait. Where exactly did you come from?”
Oh no. If that man from yesterday thought his dog was lost, wouldn’t he be frantic?
Yu Wan quickly stood up. “Hongdou, I’ll take you home. Just tell me where your home is.”
As she spoke, Yu Wan walked toward the door. “Come here.”
Taking the two dogs out, Yu Wan walked toward the lift. When she turned around, she saw that Hongdou was crouching in the corridor and not coming over. Yu Wan walked back again.
“What’s wrong? Don’t you want to go home? Your owner will be worried.”
Hongdou barked twice, then suddenly walked toward 702. Probably because furniture was being moved in, the door to 702 was open. Hongdou openly and confidently walked inside.
Yu Wan froze, then followed after it.
“Hongdou, is this your home?” Yu Wan frowned. “Wait. If this is your home, then that means this is the home of that man from yesterday. Hiss… my neighbour is him?”
“Ah, doggy, you’re finally back!” one of the furniture company staff cried out in surprise. Then he looked at Yu Wan. “And you are?”
“Oh, hello. I’m the resident from opposite. Hongdou suddenly ran into my home just now. I only realised afterwards, so I quickly brought it back,” Yu Wan said.
“That’s great. Mr Shen noticed the dog was gone just now and hurried downstairs to look for it. Who would’ve thought it had run over to your place?”
“Ah?” Yu Wan said. “Then do you have his phone number? I’ll let him know.”
“Yes, yes.”
The furniture worker gave her the number. Yu Wan looked at it as she entered it into her own phone. Mm. She was kindly reminding him that his dog had returned. She definitely had not deliberately taken his number.
“Hello?”
“Hello.” His voice was a little breathless, probably because he had truly been anxiously searching. But that voice—why was it still so magnetic and sexy? Yu Wan thought faintly.
“Who is this?”
“I’m your neighbour.” Yu Wan nearly forgot to answer. “Um, I wanted to tell you that you don’t need to keep looking. Hongdou has already gone home. I ordered takeaway earlier, and when I went back inside to get money, the door was open, so maybe Hongdou ran in at that time. I’ve brought it back now.”
There was a pause on the other end.
“Mm, got it.”
Then he hung up.
Yu Wan looked at her phone screen. Got it? That was it? This neighbour really was the aloof type.
Ten minutes later, Shen Qingzhou arrived at his front door.
As soon as he entered, he saw Hongdou nestled by a girl’s feet. Hongdou was not a dog that was friendly to just anyone. On the contrary, it was rather shy around strangers. Seeing this scene, he was inevitably somewhat surprised.
“Mr Shen, you’re back,” the furniture company worker said. “Everything has been arranged. If there’s nothing else, we’ll leave first.”
“Okay. Thank you.”
The furniture company staff left. Yu Wan had already turned to look at him when she heard the sound. Today, he was wearing a shirt and black trousers. His figure was elegant and slender, his brows and eyes cool, still carrying that same detached, almost otherworldly air.
The moment she saw him, she froze for a second. Perhaps his beauty was too overwhelming; she was stunned.
After being dazed for a long while, Yu Wan finally spoke.
“Mr Shen?”
Shen Qingzhou glanced at her but did not speak. He walked into the living room and looked at the Samoyed lying by Yu Wan’s leg. His voice was low and slightly authoritative.
“Hongdou.”
Hearing his voice, Hongdou silently stood up and walked over, letting out two weak barks at Shen Qingzhou.
Shen Qingzhou probably did not scold the dog because an outsider was present. He turned his gaze to Yu Wan. Earlier, he had already recognised this person as the woman from yesterday. He had not expected her to be the resident opposite.
But it was not anything important, so he said calmly, “Sorry for the trouble.”
Yu Wan paused. “It’s nothing. It only ate a little food. It didn’t cause me any trouble.”
Shen Qingzhou frowned. “You fed it?”
Yu Wan hurriedly waved her hands. “Don’t worry, it definitely wasn’t anything bad. It was my Highness’s lunch. Very nutritious.” Yu Wan knew that some dog owners disliked other people casually feeding their dogs, so she quickly explained.
Shen Qingzhou did not say anything. He only sat down on the sofa. After a while, seeing that Yu Wan was still standing there, he asked, “Do you need anything else?”
Yu Wan shook her head.
Shen Qingzhou said, “Then you can go back.”
“…Oh.”
Yu Wan and Yu Diandian walked toward the door.
“Woof woof!” Hongdou suddenly barked several times. Yu Wan turned back and saw that Hongdou was barking at her Yu Diandian. She glanced at Shen Qingzhou somewhat awkwardly and gave a dry laugh.
“Well, you have to admit, their relationship seems quite good.”
Shen Qingzhou instantly thought of the foolish thing Hongdou had done yesterday. His expression changed slightly.
“Hongdou, go to the study and reflect on your actions.”
Hongdou whimpered. However, it did not dare defy Shen Qingzhou. With its tail metaphorically tucked between its legs, it walked pitifully toward the study, turning back every few steps.
Yu Wan looked at Hongdou’s back sympathetically. “Hey, it didn’t really do anything. Don’t punish it.”
Shen Qingzhou’s gaze was cold. “How should I address you?”
Yu Wan looked at him in surprise. She had not expected him to suddenly ask her name. At first, she felt a little happy, but looking at his cool gaze, Yu Wan suddenly felt somewhat pressured. She could only say quietly, “My name is Yu Wan.”
“Alright, Miss Yu. Both yesterday and today’s incidents have caused you trouble.”
“It’s… fine.”
His apology sounded extremely light and casual when he said it. With him putting it that way, even if she had truly wanted to blame him, she would not have been able to.
“Mm. I still have things to do. Please go ahead.”
A direct but polite dismissal.
Yu Wan nodded. “Goodbye. Your Highness, let’s go.”
When she reached the door, naturally she helped him close it behind her. In the instant before the door shut, Yu Wan saw him stand up.
Mm. His legs were really long.
Yu Wan stayed at home writing for two days. During that period, when she went out to throw away the rubbish, she did leave the flat. Each time, she would casually glance at 702. The door was tightly shut, and she had no idea whether the person inside was home or not…
On the third day, Yu Wan was dragged out of the house by a phone call from Xinggu Company.
The weather was very hot. By the time Yu Wan arrived at the café, she was covered in sweat.
After entering, a cool breeze filled with refreshing air blew over. Yu Wan let out a breath of relief. In the height of summer, under normal circumstances, she would avoid going out if she possibly could. Today, she really had no choice…
She looked around the café. Just then, her phone rang.
“Unwan, have you arrived?” It was the company contact.
“I just came in. Where are you?”
“Uh… just came in? Could the person in dungarees standing in front of the cashier be you?”
“That’s me.”
The other person seemed very surprised. After pausing for a moment, she said, “Look to your right. By the window. I’m raising my hand now.”
“Oh, I see you.”
Yu Wan hung up, put her phone into her bag, and walked toward the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Luo Xi was a little stunned. She had never expected that the person who wrote *Wolf Yan*, such a grand, imposing suspense novel with a terrifying atmosphere, would be a young girl…
Because it had initially been her assistant who called to arrange the meeting with Unwan, she had always thought the author was a man.
“Hello. I’m the person Xinggu sent to discuss the script with you. My name is Luo Xi.”
“Hello. Just call me Yu Wan.”
“Please sit.”
The two sat down. Seeing that Luo Xi’s expression held a hint of scrutiny, Yu Wan smiled and asked, “What is it?”
“You really are Unwan?”
“Who else would I be?” Yu Wan raised an eyebrow.
“Sorry, sorry. It’s just that you look so young, so…”
Yu Wan curved her lips. “I’m not that young. I just look youthful.”
Luo Xi laughed at her blunt tone. “Haha, I’ve read all your books. I really didn’t expect the cold and aloof Great Unwan from online to be like this.”
“Ah? Are you disappointed?” Yu Wan blinked her big eyes.
Luo Xi shook her head. “Not disappointed at all. It’s more of a pleasant surprise. I didn’t expect Unwan to be a middle-aged uncle—I mean, not a middle-aged uncle, but a beautiful young woman. I wonder what your book fans would think if they knew.”
“I’m afraid it would ruin their expectations, so forget it.”
Luo Xi smiled and got to the point. “Yu Wan, I brought the contract today. Take a look.”
After saying that, she handed the document beside her to Yu Wan. Yu Wan took it and flipped through it, then said, “The conditions I mentioned—you agree to all of them, right?”
Luo Xi said, “There’s absolutely no problem. Our company is also very willing for you to be the screenwriter for the film and television adaptation of *Wolf Yan*. After all, you’re the author. You know best what can be cut and what can’t.”
“Mm. I hope that when the time comes, you can prioritise my opinions. I don’t want my story to be changed beyond recognition.” Yu Wan said it casually, but Luo Xi could feel her seriousness.
“Mm,” Luo Xi said. “Then take a look at the payment terms.”
“Okay.”
