TVFCATEOD Chapter 80

“I-I can, of course, I can,” the round-faced man trembled as he looked at the girl in front of him, pleading, “As long as you spare my life, I’ll agree to any conditions.”

The Central Zone Team was not comprised of regular soldiers but rather individuals who awakened superhuman abilities after the apocalypse. They joined the organization in order to live in the safe zone.

Shen Mingxuan just brutally killed his two teammates, which was like a nightmare for him. No one was immune to the fear of death. As long as he stayed alive, he was willing to do anything.

Bai Qingqing looked at the frightened man, a hint of disdain flashing in her eyes, and asked, “Where are you going for this mission? Yicheng?”

The round-faced man couldn’t grasp her intentions and honestly replied, “Yes, it’s Yicheng.” Beads of sweat the size of soybeans appeared on his forehead, and his face turned pale. He said, “The leader commanded us to go to Yicheng to find someone.”

Bai Qingqing narrowed her eyes, contemplating, and asked, “Find someone? What kind of person?”

The city of death was full of zombies, so it was strange that the base leader sent superhumans to find someone.

The round-faced man glanced at Shen Mingxuan, who had an expressionless face, and answered, “I heard it’s a virus researcher named Li Jin.”

Bai Qingqing’s eyes darkened. Hearing his words, it seemed that other base leaders had their spies in Yaoyang Base. She continued to ask, “What do you want with him?”

“I don’t know,” the round-faced man said with his head lowered. “Finding a virologist is probably to research the zombie virus. It has been more than half a year since most humans turned into zombies. What kind of cure can still be developed?”

Bai Qingqing couldn’t deny that. The original book only described the team’s members falling into the trap of the Zombie Emperor, and there was no further information. It was unclear what happened to Bai Tiantian or whether the world had returned to normal.

In the original book, Li Jin died early on, probably because they really couldn’t find a cure for the virus.

Li Jin was a valuable target, and every base had their eyes on him. Bai Qingqing still had her side quest to complete. She needed to catch up with Thunder Team as soon as possible.

Suddenly, a silver light flashed towards her. At the critical moment, a hand blocked it in front of her. At the same time, the round-faced man, who was kneeling on the ground, let out a miserable scream, clutching his half-face that had been sliced off.

Shen the zombie showed no expression as he pulled out the dagger that had pierced his palm. Unusual blood dripped along the blade, and he stared menacingly at the man writhing on the ground.

To kill or not to kill, it was all up to Bai Qingqing.

“F*ck! It hurts so much!” The round-faced man cursed and begged, “Don’t kill me, please don’t kill me…”

Bai Qingqing coldly watched him, and her red lips parted, “Kill him!”

The round-faced man, clinging to life, made a desperate attempt. He swung his blade toward Bai Qingqing and Shen the zombie, but as soon as he moved, his head fell to the ground. The blade in the air also fell with a crisp sound.

Bai Qingqing glanced at the living room in disdain and ordered, “Deal with them. We’ll find another place to stay.”

Shen Mingxuan swiftly extracted crystal cores, and they left the blood-stained residence. Shortly after they moved, a zombie somehow broke in, roaring and tearing at the corpses.

Bai Qingqing brought out water and toiletries to clean Shen the zombie. She watched as he washed his hands and crystal cores, staring at the hand that had just been pierced by the dagger. It was pale and clearly defined, as if the wound had never existed.

Advanced zombies had a stronger physique than humans and possessed abnormal regenerative abilities. He was evidently nearing that standard.

“Roar.” Shen the zombie presented the crystal cores to her.

Bai Qingqing shook her head, “I won’t eat.”

She was contemplating how to arrange things for tomorrow. She was about to approach the City of Death, and if nothing went wrong, she would meet up with the Thunder Team. Before that, she needed to handle her relationship with Shen Mingxuan.

Shen the zombie had turned into a zombie. Even though he retained some rationality, he still had a beastly nature deep down.

Even though Shen Mingxuan used to be their teammate, his identity and position had changed now. The members of the team wouldn’t accept being together with a zombie.

Worse yet, they might even kill Shen Mingxuan.

Shen the zombie couldn’t understand why she didn’t accept the crystal cores. Wasn’t she fond of those shiny cores? Eating them would allow her to level up. He wanted to give them all to her.

“Roar~” His silver-grey, beautiful pupils stared at her. Even though she and he were not of the same kind, he wanted to be with her all the time.

“You eat.” Bai Qingqing pushed away his hand and said, “These belong to you.”

Shen the zombie felt sulky because she didn’t accept his crystal cores. He took the crystal cores to the side and fiercely chewed on them, making crunching sounds.

Bai Qingqing looked at his tall and slender figure, but she was thinking about how to separate from him.

If he ate these crystal cores, he should be able to level up to Tier 5. Levelling up to Tier 5 in just over half a month was a freakishly fast speed. When he reached Tier 5, he would probably regain some of his intelligence.

If a zombie had intelligence, he would retain memories of being with her. Even if she left him, when he levelled up and regained his memories, the progress of her strategy would further advance.

Having made a decision, Bai Qingqing thought about leaving. Rarely, she had a tender feeling. She took out gauze from her spatial storage and said, “Come here.”

Shen the zombie walked over and heard her habitual command, “Squat.”

Bai Qingqing asked him to extend his hand. Shen the zombie, still cautious, looked to see if she had taken scissors. The memory of her cutting his nails a few days ago was still vivid in his mind.

“Extend your hand,” Bai Qingqing commanded again.

Shen the zombie obediently extended his hand, and she said silently, “Not the right hand, the left hand.”

He switched hands, revealing the hand with the scar in his palm. Bai Qingqing lowered her eyes and applied some ointment, wrapping it with gauze, layer after layer. She even maliciously tied a bow.

Shen the zombie looked at her and then looked at his hand wrapped in layers of gauze. Although it was uncomfortable, he inexplicably liked it.

The next day, Bai Qingqing drove on the road. Around noon, she arrived at another town, only about a hundred kilometres away from the City of Death, Yicheng.

“Qing, Qing,” a slightly hoarse and unpleasant voice came.

Bai Qingqing turned her head and saw Shen the zombie holding a black cat, which he seemed to have caught from somewhere while he was sent out to clear the zombies while she rested.

After Shen finished eating the high-level crystal core, he indeed advanced to the fifth rank overnight. She tried to teach him to speak, and he learned to say a few simple words like a child learning to talk.

The black cat was small and adorable, with eyes that resembled emerald green gems. It obediently stayed in his hands.

Bai Qingqing instinctively activated her appraisal ability. It was a second-rank mutant creature, highly aggressive and extremely dangerous to ordinary people.

Shen the zombie walked up to her, holding the cat, and said, “For… you.”

After Bai Qingqing upgraded her control over plant abilities, these mutated creatures were like little treasures to her. She took the black cat, and it obediently stayed in her arms, rubbing against her chest.

Shen the zombie’s silver-grey pupils stared at the black cat, expressing a displeased expression, which frightened the cat, causing it to burrow further into Bai Qingqing’s embrace.

He suddenly wanted to throw the cat away. He wanted to please Qingqing, but he didn’t like this mixed breed being affectionate with her. He revealed his sharp fangs and made a threatening sound.

Bai Qingqing kicked him, annoyed, and said, “What are you doing? Wasn’t it a gift from you? Why are you scaring it?”

Shen the zombie’s pupils flickered with a sense of grievance. He leaned closer to her and said, “Want.”

Recalling the past when Shen Mingxuan was arrogant and looked down on women, he couldn’t believe he had become like this.

Bai Qingqing couldn’t help but smile as she ruffled his hair and said, “Good boy, go and clean up all the zombies.”

Shen the zombie followed the command and prepared to clear the surrounding zombies. However, he felt a strange feeling of panic, a sense of weightlessness and emptiness. He turned his head to glance at the girl sitting on the front of the car.

The beautiful girl held the cat in her arms and raised its paw to bid him farewell. He turned his head away, pursing his lips unhappily. When he returned, he would casually pretend to have lost the cat.

Bai Qingqing watched the man’s figure gradually disappear into the distance. The smile on her lips slowly faded as she touched the black cat’s head and murmured, “Stay with him.”

“Meow~” The black cat suddenly landed on the ground, and both the off-road vehicle and the girl vanished from sight.

As Shen the zombie cleared the zombies, he became increasingly anxious. He felt a sense of loss and helplessness. In less than half an hour, he had cleared all the zombies in the town and rushed back to the original location.

When he arrived back at the spot where the off-road vehicle was parked, his silver-grey pupils tightened, and he immediately turned around to search the surroundings.

Qingqing wasn’t there. Where did she go? How could she suddenly disappear?

Shen the zombie couldn’t sense her presence at all. She had vanished without a trace. He searched the small town inside out but couldn’t find her.

He let out a roar of anger, causing the sound to reverberate and scare away all living creatures in the vicinity.

“Qing… Qing!” He strained to make a sound, filled with anxiety, desperately searching. The more he couldn’t find her, the more restless he became, falling into a state of madness.

He destroyed the dilapidated houses in the small town, his silver-grey pupils

turning crimson. It was all his fault, his fault for not being good enough. Where did she go?

Bai Qingqing stayed in the space, watching him search like a desperate stray dog, shattering, grieving, and frenziedly searching without rest.

“Qing… Qing.” Shen the zombie searched all night, his figure in disarray, his throat hoarse and torn, “Where… are you?”

The black cat appeared from somewhere and ran to his feet. He picked up the black cat, his eyes filled with joy as he searched, but he didn’t see any trace of her.

She didn’t even take the cat he gave her.

Shen the zombie finally realized that she had abandoned him.

“Qing… Qing.” Shen the zombie struggled and pitifully begged, “Come… out.”

He would be good, he would obey, just don’t leave.
