MDMSC Chapter 54

My Heart Starts to Hurt

How she crawled up from the floor, supported her twisted old waist, dragged Fang Anyu up, and then dragged his unconscious body back into the room—this whole inappropriate scene was truly unbearable to recall.

Jun Yueyue lay collapsed on the heated bed, her hair still damp. She turned her head to look at Fang Anyu, who was also wrapped in a quilt with damp hair, and simply had no words to describe her current mood.

“Fuck…”

Jun Yueyue moved, and pain shot through her elbow, making her bare her teeth. She had knocked it against the washbasin. But as the pain throbbed, she rolled over and started laughing again.

What the hell was all this?

Now she believed what Ji Fei had said. Something was a little off with Fang Anyu. After all, no matter how soft and gentle he looked normally, when it came to that matter, he had never once left Jun Yueyue feeling unsatisfied.

A typical big wolfdog on the bed and little milk puppy off the bed. Kind and gentle, but if you wanted wild, he had that too. Who would not like a person like that?

But today, for some reason, he had not performed well. Jun Yueyue suspected that Fang Anyu had been frightened these past few days, or that his mutation had affected him and had not fully stabilised yet…

Thinking of this, she bit her lip a little guiltily. She had been too impatient. She should not have hinted at him and seduced him. She should have waited until his ability had fully stabilised. After all, Jun Yueyue remembered that when she had first mutated back then, it had taken her a long time to adapt to her heavy body.

Jun Yueyue calmed down a little, scolded herself internally, then cleaned up the messy bathroom. She also took a dry towel and dried Fang Anyu’s hair a little. Then she changed the quilt to a clean one, wrapped him up inside, and touched his slightly cold forehead.

Poor little thing. If he felt unwell, did he not know how to refuse?

Jun Yueyue complained inwardly. But thinking back carefully, whether in the previous life or this life, ever since she had known Fang Anyu, no matter what she asked him to do, he seemed to have never refused.

Even if he was unwilling, he would not refuse.

But he was not like that with everyone. At least, when he often got angry with Fang Anyan, he would refuse to communicate. With her, however, he had never done that. Even if he symbolically threw a tantrum, he could be coaxed with just a little effort.

Thinking back on those past things, Jun Yueyue’s lips curved helplessly, yet sweetly. She reached into the quilt and checked that her poppy beauty had not injured anything fatal. Only then did she wrap the quilt tightly around him again, get up, and go make food.

Jun Yueyue was not the clever, skillful type. She could not make anything advanced. Besides, right now she was too lazy to make anything complicated. She directly used the small electric pot to cook instant noodles she had brought down from the truck.

In the afternoon, they still had to go clear zombie corpses. They had to find a good place to burn the bodies. Burying them risked wild animals digging them up and eating them. If wild animals became infected, they would be as troublesome as those zombie monkeys.

Jun Yueyue hummed while standing in front of the little pot.

The aroma of fresh shrimp noodles was very appetite-stirring, and they were easy to cook. Less than two minutes after the water boiled, and one minute after the noodles went in, they were already done.

Just as Jun Yueyue turned off the heat, a pair of arms wrapped around her waist. A still-damp head rubbed against the side of her neck. Cool lips pressed against her cheek, slowly wandering.

Jun Yueyue turned her head and glanced over.

Fang Anyu was wrapped in a bathrobe, holding her very tightly. He hugged her away from the stove and pressed her against the entrance.

His eyelashes lowered slightly. His breath was intimate. His strength and the fragmented kisses all showed one meaning—

He was seeking intimacy.

Jun Yueyue held chopsticks in her hand. Between laughter and exasperation, she pushed his shoulder.

“I need to eat. I still have to go out this afternoon. Stop messing around.”

Fang Anyu’s movements paused.

Red gradually spread over the roots of his ears. His gaze as he looked at Jun Yueyue was almost helpless.

A little flustered, he kissed the corner of her lips again, then pressed against Jun Yueyue, proving that he could still do it.

Jun Yueyue burst out laughing.

Although she felt a little heartache, most of it was amusement.

Fang Anyu was afraid that because he had fainted halfway earlier, Jun Yueyue would be angry.

After being together for so long, Jun Yueyue roughly understood his personality and his lack of bottom line when it came to her. Holding the chopsticks in one hand, she touched Fang Anyu’s face with the other.

“I’m not angry. Don’t be scared. It was my fault. I forgot that you mutated not long ago and that your body still isn’t too good, yet I still insisted on hooking you in. It’s good enough if you don’t blame me.”

She had killed zombies all morning and felt uncomfortable inside, so she had wanted to get close to Fang Anyu and relax. She had not carefully checked his state. It was indeed her oversight.

Fang Anyu shook his head fiercely. Fine droplets of water from his hair splashed onto Jun Yueyue’s face. She narrowed her eyes and laughed again.

“Alright. Are you okay now? Still dizzy?”

Fang Anyu shook his head again.

Jun Yueyue ordered him, “Since you’re awake, go dry your hair. Then get ready to eat noodles. I’ll cook a little more.”

Fang Anyu nodded and turned into the room.

Jun Yueyue watched him go in, then started boiling water again and quietly sighed, “Being able to hear really is nice…”

Fang Anyu was making the bed. His movements paused.

He was in the inner room, while Jun Yueyue was in the outer room. There was a door between them. Although it was not very far, the door was closed, and Jun Yueyue was talking to herself. A normal person would not be able to hear that mutter.

But Fang Anyu “heard” it.

He pressed his lips together. The little leaves on his head were still curled up listlessly.

If he had not consumed too much energy and lost control of himself by fainting, he absolutely would not have stopped halfway. He would definitely have continued until Jun Yueyue was completely satisfied.

The turning point in their relationship had been because of intimacy. In this second life, it was because she had accidentally drunk the drug and had substantial progress with him from the very beginning that they had made it to today.

Fang Anyu placed great importance on this kind of thing. In his view, this was his capital.

It was the capital that kept Jun Yueyue continuing to like him.

When nothing was happening, he would always try every possible way to feed her until she was full and satisfied. These past two days had truly been too chaotic. Apart from that first time in the bathroom on the day the outbreak began, there had not really been any opportunity afterward…

Fang Anyu secretly thought about how to make Jun Yueyue happy once his body recovered.

Jun Yueyue, meanwhile, was thinking about making something tasty to nourish Fang Anyu. So she added four more eggs. This kind of thing did not travel well, and the further into the future they went, the rarer it would become unless they started farming.

Fortunately, things were still okay for now. When they collected supplies yesterday, they had moved whole boxes into the truck, and not many had broken along the way. There was still enough to eat.

She made a full little pot of noodles.

When Jun Yueyue carried the noodles into the room, Fang Anyu had already placed the small table on the heated bed and arranged the bowls and chopsticks.

He had dried his hair, but had not styled it. His curls stuck up messily. Fortunately, he was good-looking. Otherwise, this brush-like fluffy hairstyle really would not suit most people. On his head, however, it even looked a little cute.

The two sat cross-legged opposite each other by the small table and ate noodles.

Fang Anyu ate quickly, but always very elegantly. He did not make loud slurping sounds. While eating, he paid attention to Jun Yueyue’s expression. Jun Yueyue kept smiling at him. Only after he completely confirmed there was not the slightest trace of unhappiness on her face did he truly relax.

Jun Yueyue ate until she was full. There was still some time before work began in the afternoon, so she patted her full stomach and lay on the heated bed with Fang Anyu to talk and hook their fingers together.

There was nothing happier than lying down after eating your fill.

Although she knew it was unhealthy, it was truly enjoyable.

Especially when your little cutie lay beside you and occasionally leaned over to kiss you. That feeling—Jun Yueyue could write a hundred-thousand-word essay about the wonderful experience in minutes.

“Is your head still dizzy?” Jun Yueyue asked Fang Anyu.

Fang Anyu shook his head. He was holding the phone, but for his convenience, Jun Yueyue basically asked questions he could answer by nodding or shaking his head.

“Then do you feel uncomfortable anywhere else? Ji Fei said you fainted today while watching Fang Anyan. Is that true?” Jun Yueyue worriedly fiddled with Fang Anyu’s hair. “You have to say it if you’re uncomfortable.”

Fang Anyu first nodded, admitting that he had indeed fainted earlier, then shook his head to say he was no longer uncomfortable.

He had indeed recovered quite a bit. Now, the little leaves on his head had freshened up again. He was recovering faster than he had imagined.

Jun Yueyue said, “If you’re uncomfortable, then starting tomorrow, stay home and lie down. Don’t go to Fang Anyan’s place. I saw that he can already wake up midway, which means his mutation is about to end too. He’ll be fine.”

Fang Anyu nodded. Whatever Jun Yueyue said, he obediently nodded.

But over the next few days, whenever Jun Yueyue went out in the morning to kill zombies and came back at noon, she would see Fang Anyu lying wilted on the heated bed like an eggplant beaten by frost. Sometimes his little face was deathly pale and cold sweat would not stop. The worst time, he did not wake up all noon.

But every evening, once Jun Yueyue finished dealing with the zombies killed that day and came home, Fang Anyu seemed as if he had just been injected with chicken blood. As soon as Jun Yueyue had eaten, drunk, washed up, and climbed onto the heated bed, he would not let her be idle until she passed out from sleep.

When it came to this kind of thing, except for that one time he fell to the floor, Fang Anyu had never made Jun Yueyue hurt.

Even if he tormented her fiercely, when Jun Yueyue woke up the next day, she absolutely would not feel pain or discomfort anywhere. On the contrary, after several consecutive days, both her body and mind were delighted. Her entire person was glowing, like a fox spirit that had eaten someone’s heart and liver.

Fang Anyan’s fever really lasted too long.

Just when Jun Yueyue suspected that if he did not wake up soon, he would cook himself thoroughly, his mutation finally ended.

Then, when Ji Fei helped him out the door and he stood at the entrance of the village director’s house, a fireball the size of a fist shot straight toward the village chief’s courtyard.

The fire landed on the fence. Without kindling, and unable to be blown out by the wind, it burned away a whole patch of Jun Yueyue’s front courtyard fence before finally stopping.

Fang Anyan awakened a fire-type ability.

It was the same kind as Lei Ze, their captain from the previous life. But compared with Lei Ze, who could only release fist-sized fireballs even after advancing to second level and whose fire feared water, Fang Anyan’s was clearly the upgraded version of fire-type ability.

This many days of high fever really had not been wasted.

Everyone was overjoyed. Fang Anyan’s ability had come at exactly the right time. They had not found a suitable place to burn corpses. Burying them left hidden dangers. These past few days, they had been burning them at a place not too far away, but it sent black ash everywhere. Moreover, zombie corpses did not burn easily. It took a large amount of firewood and oil, which was too wasteful.

Fang Anyan’s ability was truly perfect for burning corpses.

Over the next several days, their search and zombie-hunting range expanded. Fang Anyu really could not support such distant areas.

That noon, he finally forced himself not to faint and typed on his phone to discuss with Jun Yueyue:

When you go kill zombies, can you take me with you?

Jun Yueyue was very surprised by this request.

Fang Anyu had always been especially obedient. Plus, recently, for some unknown reason, he became especially weak by noon. Sometimes he even fainted and could not wake. If not for the fact that he was extremely lively at night, Jun Yueyue would have worried that the mutation was damaging his body.

“But your complexion is very bad,” Jun Yueyue said. “During the day, your condition really isn’t suitable for going out. It’s too dangerous outside.”

When Jun Yueyue said this, she thought of the slow-moving zombies outside and felt as if she were lying to a child.

Recently, their efficiency when going out had been high. A large part of the reason was that the zombies were excessively sluggish. After their methods became familiar, killing them really was like chopping firewood and slicing melons. In these ten-plus days, they had already swept through roughly half the resort. The surrounding area had basically been dealt with. The supermarket had also been recovered. They had even rescued two groups of survivors: one in the buffet restaurant and one in the supermarket. There were ten people in total, and they had gradually joined the zombie-clearing team.

Only the lodging area and entertainment venue still had relatively large gatherings of zombies. This section was the hardest to chew through and required planning.

Today, they had discussed going there. First, they would use sound to lure out a batch.

It was too dangerous. It really was not suitable to bring Fang Anyu.

“Wait for me at home,” Jun Yueyue smiled and pinched his cheek. “I’ll come back earlier tonight.”

Fang Anyu lowered his eyes and paused, pressing his lips together.

Usually, when Jun Yueyue said something like this, he would not refute her anymore. Even back then, when Jun Yueyue said they should divorce first, that he should wait for her, and that she would come find him later—words that sounded like a scumbag fooling someone—Fang Anyu had obediently agreed.

But this time, after hesitating, he typed again:

But I’m scared.

Jun Yueyue raised her brows after reading it. “What are you scared of? What happened? When I’m not home, did someone come over and bully you?”

Fang Anyu shook his head.

He really was scared. Jun Yueyue and the others were going farther and farther to kill zombies, already far enough that he could not help. If he did not go with her, he was truly afraid.

Afraid that Jun Yueyue would accidentally be scratched or bitten by zombies.

But after thinking for a moment, Fang Anyu typed:

Every time you’re far away from me, my heart starts to hurt. The farther you are, the more painful it gets. It hurts so much I almost can’t breathe. I don’t know why, but as soon as you come back, I’m fine.

Every time Fang Anyu lied to Jun Yueyue, he would lower his eyes so she could not see the emotion in them. This time was no exception.

But because he had stretched his control over the zombies too far that morning, he had overexerted himself. His whole person looked haggard and drained. Now, his face was as pale as a hanging ghost’s. He lightly bit his lip and lowered his eyes, looking both fragile and helpless.

This was an illusion pieced together both intentionally and unintentionally.

But Jun Yueyue’s heart leapt in shock because of Fang Anyu’s words.

She had never imagined Fang Anyu would lie to her. Psychologically, she believed his words unconditionally.

So she suddenly connected it to how Fang Anyu had always been extremely weak whenever she returned home at noon recently, yet lively and energetic when she was home at night. She was both alarmed and shocked.

“How could this happen? Then these past few days, every time I went out, you were in terrible pain?!”

As Jun Yueyue spoke, she stepped forward and pressed Fang Anyu’s chest.

“What about now? Does it still hurt?”

“How could this be…” Jun Yueyue looked at Fang Anyu with heartache. “Then why didn’t you tell me? You’ve been hurting for so many days…”

Fang Anyu silently bit his lip.

He did not want to lie either. But the words had already been spoken, so he continued fabricating:

These past few days, I could still endure it. I knew you were busy, so I didn’t say anything. But recently, you’ve been too far from me. It really hurts. It hurts like I’m about to die.

If someone else had said something like “it hurts like I’m about to die,” Jun Yueyue would definitely have told them to go die directly. Goosebumps could have filled a basket.

But Fang Anyu had this ability. No matter how ridiculous or corny his words sounded, paired with his crystal-clear zombie-core-like eyes, his harmless and ignorant expression, and Jun Yueyue’s six-thousand-times romantic filter, not only did she not feel anything wrong, she felt terribly heartbroken.

Thinking that Fang Anyu had been enduring pain these past few days, Jun Yueyue blamed herself terribly.

Actually, she knew this was not quite right. It was not as if the two of them had been implanted with some ancient witchcraft soul-binding Gu, where being too far apart would tear the other person’s soul apart.

This kind of thing simply could not be explained logically.

But Jun Yueyue’s unconditional trust in Fang Anyu was the same as Fang Anyu’s unconditional obedience to Jun Yueyue. It made her deaf and blind. She simply did not have the thought to analyse whether his words were true or false.

Besides, even if they were false, so what?

It was just that he was clingy with her. Although Jun Yueyue would sigh helplessly, her heart would still feel sweet.

Even if she were beaten to death, she would never imagine that Fang Anyu was lying like this in order to protect her and follow her.

Facing Fang Anyu’s slightly pleading gaze, Jun Yueyue’s heart softened into a complete mess. She nodded and said, “Then in the afternoon, you can ride the sightseeing cart with me. But you cannot get out of the cart, understand? Hide behind the group.”

Fang Anyu smiled and nodded.

So that afternoon, when Jun Yueyue went out with everyone, she brought Fang Anyu along.

Fang Anyan also came. He happened to sit in the same sightseeing cart as Jun Yueyue. After seeing his brother, he glared at Jun Yueyue.

“Why did you bring my brother here!” Fang Anyan said. “This is too dangerous.”

He told the sightseeing cart to stop, reached out to pull Fang Anyu, and wanted to send him back.

Fang Anyu refused to get down. He held onto Jun Yueyue and would not let go.

Ji Fei, beside them, curled her lips helplessly. Li Li had also started having a fever recently. But magically, he did not faint and could still come out to fight. He only felt unwell and looked pale.

“Your brother insisted on coming. He said if he’s too far from me, his heart hurts,” Jun Yueyue pulled Fang Anyu and explained to Fang Anyan.

But although Fang Anyu had deceived Jun Yueyue with these words as smoothly as flowing water, hearing them said aloud in someone else’s ears sounded far too absurd.

Fang Anyu was instantly labelled as wilful, clingy, and ignorant. His wide-eyed refusal to get off also looked like unreasonable behaviour.

Fang Anyan’s expression immediately turned awkward.

After awakening his fire ability, his temper had become even more irritable. But he never vented anger at Fang Anyu, so he could only aim it at Jun Yueyue.

“You’re spoiling him! Will you be able to look after him later?!”

Jun Yueyue said, “It’s true. And he won’t get out of the cart. He’ll stay obediently in the cart.”

After Jun Yueyue said this, she thought for a moment and added, “After awakening his ability, your brother can hear us speaking now.”

Fang Anyan had still wanted to say something. Hearing Jun Yueyue’s words, he froze for a moment, then immediately stared at Fang Anyu with wide eyes.

His lips moved, and he called, “Brother? You… you really can hear now?”

Seeing that Fang Anyan no longer came to pull him, and that the sightseeing cart had started moving again, Fang Anyu nodded.

Then Fang Anyan almost cried.

Really almost.

His eyes were red, and he held back tears without letting them fall. It was obvious that he was restraining himself with great difficulty. Sitting in his seat, he kept inhaling and exhaling.

The sightseeing cart could not seat too many people. Most were those closest to them. Fang Anyan faced the direction of the wind for a long while before finally drying the tears in his eyes.

In a muffled voice, he asked Jun Yueyue, “When did this happen?”

“After he mutated,” Jun Yueyue said.

“Then why didn’t you tell me earlier?!” Fang Anyan snapped.

Jun Yueyue discovered that there were truly very few moments when she could get along peacefully with Fang Anyan. In the last life, what nerve of hers had misfired that made her like him?!

“What’s with that tone? I only found out not long ago too. Besides, how many days has it been since your fever ended? When you were unconscious, should I have slapped you awake to tell you?!”

Jun Yueyue and Fang Anyan glared at each other. She looked very justified, but in truth, she had selfishly wanted Fang Anyan to find out a little later.

This kind of hiding mentality had always existed.

She really wanted a gourd like the Golden-Horned King’s, so she could hide Fang Anyu inside without even telling Fang Anyan, hold him in her hand, stuff him into her pocket, and take him out to look at whenever she wanted.

Ji Fei and Li Li were clearly also surprised that Fang Anyu could hear now. But they truly could not bear listening to Jun Yueyue and Fang Anyan argue, so they spoke up to advise them. The two of them took the opportunity to cease fire.

Fang Anyan also found it hard to believe that Fang Anyu could really hear. He kept speaking to him.

When he finally confirmed that his brother really could hear, he fell silent again, his expression complicated.

In fact, no one in his family had ever mentioned it. But Fang Anyan had heard from other uncles and aunties, so he knew.

When the two brothers were very young, there had been a deliberately planned accident caused by commercial competitors. His brother had severely injured his head in that accident. After continuous high fevers that would not go down, he had become like this. There was no possibility of repairing it through surgery. They could only care for him.

But in that accident, why had Fang Anyan been perfectly fine while Fang Anyu suffered something like that?

He had been too young to remember. His parents had refused to mention a word no matter how he asked. But Fang Anyan had always felt terrible about it.

When he was little, it had been fine. But as he grew older, this matter almost became a burden. He always had to treat Fang Anyu a little better, and then even better, as if only by doing that could he feel a little more comfortable psychologically.

But excessive protection had not brought his brother any good influence. When the Fang family was on the verge of collapse, when Fang Anyan himself had been weighed and sold by the jin, he still had not protected his brother well.

Fang Anyan had always opposed Jun Yueyue, not because she had first liked him crazily and then quickly transferred her affections, causing an imbalance in his heart.

Fang Anyan had been afraid.

The more his brother showed how much he cared, the more afraid Fang Anyan became. He was afraid that Jun Yue’s feelings were too shallow and would once again shift in the blink of an eye. He was afraid that if she turned back to pursue him again, how would he face his brother then?

His brother owned too few things.

He had never made demands.

Only when facing this woman did he behave like a normal person, even fighting to compete with him.

But later, Fang Anyan’s feelings had also carried a little jealousy. His brother was indeed growing closer and closer to Jun Yue, yet drifting farther and farther from him. Sometimes, Fang Anyan could even sense hostility from Fang Anyu, and this hurt him.

His emotions were too complicated for a while. He silently looked out the window.

His brother could now hear people speaking…

This really was wonderful.

Ji Fei silently held his hand and gently squeezed it to soothe him.

Fang Anyan turned to her and smiled faintly, though it was a little forced.

Only when Fang Anyu took two small snacks from his pocket and handed one bag of raisins to Fang Anyan did his lips finally move and curve into a smile.

The sightseeing cart travelled along the small road through the resort.

If not for the fact that everyone in the cart was fully armed, and the weapons in their hands were stained with dark blood, the sunlight at this moment was perfect, the breeze gentle, the grass and trees lush, and flowers blooming out of season. They would look just like ordinary tourists, taking a vacation during a break from work and life.

But this leisurely, warm moment disappeared when they arrived at the lodging hotel.

Everyone adjusted themselves and their weapons. Apart from Fang Anyu, they all got off the sightseeing cart and gathered together to discuss opening the garden-style small iron gate of the lodging hotel.

They had to decide how many zombies to release at once, and who would close the iron gate at the limit of what they could handle.

Even from this distance, Fang Anyu could hear them speak. He kept his elbow on the side of the chair and rested his chin on it, watching Jun Yueyue’s direction and the iron rod tied with a knife in her hand.

He closed his eyes. Fang Anyu sensed the number of zombies inside this building.

Just as Jun Yueyue and the others finished discussing and were about to act, Fang Anyu suddenly opened his eyes.

Not good. There was a second-level zombie!

A second-level zombie required a zombie to eat another zombie’s crystal core to advance. But zombies had no appetite for their own kind, so the cause was usually extremely coincidental. The greatest possibility was that while one zombie was eating another person’s brain, that person just happened to mutate, just happened to form a zombie crystal core, and the first zombie ate it. Only then would it become a second-level zombie.

But facing Jun Yueyue, who was walking toward him, Fang Anyu nervously took out his phone to warn her. However, when he typed the first character, he realised that doing so would expose him. So he had no choice but to change what he typed:

You must be careful.

Jun Yueyue responded, “Okay. Don’t worry. Stay here properly.”

Everyone began acting according to the plan.

When this resort was built, Jun Yueyue had participated in the blueprints. The courtyards of the large buildings were all maze-style, with many twists and turns, as well as plenty of small gates. Usually, the main selling point was romance and unexpected encounters. But now, it was very practical. Each small gate happened to block zombies, which could not jump or climb.

They still used sound to attract them. The zombies wandering at the front of the hotel were quickly drawn over.

Starting from the side gate, the maze-like garden had three checkpoints in total. Jun Yueyue was at the second one.

From the moment they began hitting the gate with iron rods, Fang Anyu looked toward the lodging hotel and began influencing the zombies’ movements.

Their slaughter went very smoothly. Although this time the zombies did not foolishly stand there waiting to be cut down like the previous few times, with Fang Anyu’s influence, their movements were still relatively slow.

But cold sweat flowed down Fang Anyu’s face, and his complexion began turning pale again.

He was confronting a second-level zombie beside a bed inside the building. The second-level zombie had already commanded the zombies to gather toward the entrance.

Gradually, Fang Anyu could no longer control the scattered zombies. He could only temporarily stop the group of zombies gathering on the first floor from rushing out of the building together.

As everyone fought, they began to realise that the zombies were becoming fiercer. Fang Anyu had overexerted himself these past few days, both day and night. Moreover, this was his first time facing such a dense number of zombies, as well as a second-level zombie. He was clearly unable to hold on.

Because the zombies had suddenly grown fierce, everyone became increasingly alert. The sound of knocking attracted the zombies, making them pounce toward them.

Suddenly, Fang Anyu exhaled sharply.

The lobby doors of the lodging hotel suddenly opened, and more than a dozen zombies surged out, howling as they ran toward the crowd.

Everyone also saw the dense black mass gathered in the lobby and instantly felt their hair stand on end as they cried out in alarm.

However, things did not go as they had expected. The zombies did not rush out of the building all together. They only howled from afar. Even though the doors had been flung wide open by the earlier impact of the dozen or so zombies, the rest seemed blocked by some invisible force.

Fang Anyu stopped caring about the dozen that had escaped and focused fully on trapping the ones inside.

His eyes turned toward the top of the hotel.

Beside the empty rooftop pool stood a zombie. Unlike other zombies, who waved their limbs without dignity and howled and lunged at the slightest sound, this one simply stood there. The wind stirred the hem of his half-bloodstained shirt, but he remained completely still.

He looked across the distance toward Fang Anyu.

Fang Anyu could not see whether he had any expression. But his quiet, lurking appearance was almost like that of a normal person with intelligence.

This silent contest was not gentler at all than Jun Yueyue and the others’ real blades and real guns. Fang Anyu’s eyes were grey-white. Although it was difficult for him, the second-level zombie on the rooftop was clearly not relaxed either. Seeing that not a single zombie in the lobby could take another step forward showed that this second-level zombie’s ability was still inferior to Fang Anyu’s.

But just as their contest reached a critical moment, someone in the team twisted their ankle while fighting a zombie, tripped by a companion while trying to dodge its sudden frenzy. They were swapped out of the formation and limped toward the sightseeing cart.

Fang Anyu was anxious.

If someone came over at this time and saw the colour of his pupils, they would definitely treat him as a mutated zombie and chop him down with one slash.

But he could not relax for even a moment. If the people in the building all rushed out at once, especially under the command of a second-level zombie, it would be troublesome.

He turned his head and glanced over. When he saw that the person approaching was actually Wu Zhenfei, he decided to ignore him for the time being and continue competing with the second-level zombie on the hotel rooftop.

Seeing that the zombies inside the building seemed blocked by something, Jun Yueyue and the others dealt with the dozen that had rushed out first. After observing for a while, they began discussing.

“Rough estimate, there have to be over a hundred in there. And we don’t know whether there are more upstairs,” Jun Yueyue said. “They don’t normally gather together like this. They should be… attracted by the sound.”

Jun Yueyue had a bad guess. But in her heart, she did not quite believe it. It was only the early stage of the apocalypse, and the conditions for a second-level zombie to form were so strict. Could it really have formed so coincidentally?

Li Li looked inside. “They’re being blocked by something. What do we do?”

“Go close the doors,” Ji Fei said. “Find a way to wedge them shut from the outside.”

The lodging hotel’s main entrance consisted of six large pull-handle doors side by side. Fang Anyan looked around and saw the iron frames used for flower trellises in the garden courtyard.

“Use those. They can wedge it shut.”

“But going inside now is too dangerous. There are so many zombies. What exactly is blocking them…” Fatty wiped the hot sweat from his head and said from behind.

Li Li frowned. “Let’s try it. If too many get out and we can’t kill them all, they’ll run out of this courtyard, and we’ll have to sweep the whole place from beginning to end again. Damn it.”

The last time they cleared the surroundings had taken more than ten days. The resort was too large.

Everyone made up their minds.

In the end, Li Li, who ran the fastest, and Fang Anyan, who had awakened a fire-type ability and could throw deadly fireballs, went. Ji Fei handed the gun to Li Li, somewhat reluctant.

“Don’t fire unless absolutely necessary. There are only two bullets left.”

Li Li nodded.

He and Fang Anyan quickly jumped in. They rushed to the flower bed, pulled out the iron frames, and ran rapidly toward the doors where the zombies were gathered.

The rest watched nervously from the gate.

As soon as the two ran over, the zombies smelled living flesh approaching and howled even more frantically.

More and more cold sweat covered Fang Anyu. He looked as if he had been pulled out of water. Gritting his teeth, he forced himself to hold on. He could taste blood in his mouth.

Hold on a little longer.

That second-level zombie had clearly given up and left the rooftop. The remaining zombies, now frantic after smelling living humans, were even harder to deal with.

Seeing Li Li and Fang Anyan reach the entrance, Fang Anyu gritted his teeth and persisted.

They were going to close the doors.

At the crucial moment—

“Hey, what’s wrong with you?”

Fang Anyu’s shoulder was poked.

Wu Zhenfei, limping over, saw Fang Anyu facing the direction of the building, sweat soaking through his back, his whole body trembling.

He did not want to care about Fang Anyu. But they were companions after all. After struggling for a moment, he still stepped forward and asked.

This poke was disastrous.

Fang Anyu was already at his limit. That poke made his strength loosen.

Fang Anyan and Li Li were instantly swallowed by deafening howls.

Their reactions were quick enough. They shut the doors at the same time. But zombie hands were already reaching out from inside, caught in the gaps between the doors. The two of them used the full strength of their bodies to brace the doors, but inside were dozens of crazed zombies. Seeing that the doors were about to open, Fang Anyu’s loosened force covered them once again.

Fang Anyan and Li Li felt the pressure ease. They slammed the doors shut, wedged the iron frames in, and then quickly ran out.

Blood spilled from Fang Anyu’s nose and the corner of his mouth. He had already reached his limit. His head hurt as if it were splitting open.

Only after seeing Fang Anyan and Li Li wedge the doors shut did he relax his mind. He raised the back of his hand to wipe his nose, changed the colour of his eyes, and turned to look at Wu Zhenfei with blood smeared from his nose and mouth.

Wu Zhenfei was so frightened he yelled, “Ma!” and stepped back. His foot hit something again, and he sat down on the ground from the pain.

The world spun before Fang Anyu’s eyes. He was about to faint, but he heard Jun Yueyue and the others coming this way. He gritted his teeth, refusing to let himself pass out.

Suddenly, he pulled the corners of his lips and smiled at Wu Zhenfei.

Wu Zhenfei: …

Fang Anyu took out his phone and shakily typed a line for Wu Zhenfei to see:

Yueyue will never like you. Give up.

After Wu Zhenfei read it, his brows furrowed. When he came over earlier, he had also ridden in this cart and knew about Fang Anyu being able to hear after mutation. He opened his mouth, about to say something.

Fang Anyu deleted the words from the phone. Hearing Jun Yueyue and the others about to turn the corner, he suddenly grabbed the knife in Wu Zhenfei’s hand and placed it against his own neck.

Then, with precise timing, just as Jun Yueyue looked over, he fainted inside the sightseeing cart.

As he collapsed, the blade tip grazed the skin on his neck, and a bright red line of blood disappeared into his collar.

Wu Zhenfei felt that he was finished.

**Nomad: Anyu is really taking advantage of the situation to set Wu Zhenfei up, hahaha! I need him to hurry up and tell Yueyue about his mutation already!**
