Fu Chen exuded a strong aura, his gaze sternly fixed on her, making her stiff and unable to move.
Bai Qingqing forced a smile, feigning innocence. Her voice trembled slightly as she asked, “Brother, why are you looking at me like this?”
Fu Chen’s displeasure gradually disappeared. Perhaps he had misunderstood. Qingqing didn’t intentionally avoid him.
“Give me your hand,” he commanded in a tone of voice.
Bai Qingqing hesitated for a moment, then handed her hand to his large hand, allowing him to grip it tightly as they got out of the car.
The others saw them coming down while holding hands, each with a different expression. Xiao Yangming appeared displeased, Shen Mingxuan still had a somber expression, and Liang Zhiyu’s face remained calm, but his eyes revealed a hint of darkness.
Bai Qingqing stored the modified car in her space. When she saw the car disappear into thin air, Xu Meng’s face showed a surprised expression.
How could the car suddenly vanish? Whose ability was that?
Post-apocalyptic spatial abilities were not common, which is why Bai Qingqing was targeted by various factions later on.
The elevator in the apartment building was no longer functional, so they had to use the corridor, which could accommodate only two people walking side by side, to go upstairs. For safety reasons, they didn’t choose a high floor and settled on the fifth floor.
Shen Mingxuan and Xiao Yangming broke open a few room doors. As people turned into zombies and rushed at them, the two used their abilities to deal with them, avoiding any major commotion.
The apartment building was neatly decorated. Bai Qingqing, Fu Chen, and Xiao Yang lived together, while Liang Zhiyu, Shen Mingxuan, and two other women lived next door.
Bai Qingqing first went to the bathroom to check if there was water. She turned on the tap, but for several minutes, she only heard the sound of the water source drying up. It seemed she had to take water from her space and heat it up for them to take a bath.
After bathing, she returned to the temporary bedroom where she would sleep and flashed into her space.
As soon as she entered the space, Little Purple Grass rushed to her side as if it had caught a scent, whimpering around her.
Bai Qingqing picked up a low-level crystal core and fed it to Little Purple Grass, causing it to wag its body happily. “Master, come here quickly.”
Little Purple Grass tugged at her clothes, pulling her to the Spirit Field. Sure enough, all the plants she had grown there were mutated, with unusually large sizes. The Pepper Lord had already grown to a height that reached her waist.
It was estimated that the chili peppers would be the first to ripen in a few days, and she could harvest a bunch of them.
Bai Qingqing happily touched the little chili pepper and, carrying a bucket, went to water them along with Little Purple Grass, hoping they would grow strong and healthy.
After watering for half an hour, she rubbed her waist and rewarded Little Purple Grass with another low-level crystal core, instructing it to take care of the fruits and vegetables before leaving the space.
As soon as she returned to her real room, she saw Fu Chen sitting on the bedroom sofa. The man’s expression was languid yet icy, his head propped up as if lost in thought, but he heard the faint sound of her entry.
He opened his pitch-black eyes and said to her, “Come here.”
Bai Qingqing walked over and crouched down in front of him, her delicate little face showing a smile. “Brother, what’s the matter?”
Fu Chen’s fingers caressed her fair and smooth face, his slender fingers hooking her chin, gently rubbing it, his gaze obscure and unfathomable.
Silence filled the room.
After a moment, Fu Chen’s low and magnetic voice sounded, “Starting from tomorrow, you will stick by my side and try to stay out of my sight as little as possible.”
Bai Qingqing nodded and agreed, “Mm-hmm.”
Fu Chen leaned closer, looking down at her, and said in a low tone, “I placed you at the Yaoyang Base because I didn’t want you to encounter danger. Now that you’ve come along, I can only take you with me.”
Bai Qingqing looked up at him and said, “Brother, don’t underestimate me. My spatial ability has reached level five now. If there’s any danger, I can immediately hide inside.”
She blinked and added, “I’ll be very safe.”
If her spatial ability hadn’t reached level five, he wouldn’t have allowed her to stay.
Still worried, Fu Chen reminded her, “No matter what happens, prioritize your own safety, understand?”
Bai Qingqing held his cold hand and said seriously, “I understand.”
Fu Chen rubbed her head and said, “Rest early.”
Bai Qingqing was about to get up when he reached out and pulled her over, saying, “Little sister, goodnight kiss.”
Huh?
Bai Qingqing stared at him, not moving.
Fu Chen pulled her into his arms, his warm breath spraying on her neck as he said in a low, hoarse voice, “I’m setting a rule for you, from now on, before you sleep every night, you have to give me a goodnight kiss.”
Bai Qingqing endured the tingling sensation on her neck and felt a bit uncomfortable. She straightened her body and said, “Brother, we’re all grown-ups now, so we should be more careful.”
Fu Chen’s eyes darkened, and his voice carried a hint of danger as he said, “Who told you that?”
“Uh…” Bai Qingqing pitifully said, “Other people said so.”
Fu Chen’s cold lips landed on her forehead as he said, “We’re different.”
Bai Qingqing didn’t continue asking what was different. She wanted to expose their fake sibling relationship. She yawned lazily and said, “I’m going to sleep.”
Fu Chen let go of her and said, “I’ll wake you up tomorrow.”
“Goodnight, brother,” Bai Qingqing lifted the blanket and got into bed.
Fu Chen glanced at her and left the room, closing the door behind him.
The next morning, around 8 o’clock, Bai Qingqing woke up. She opened the curtains and looked outside. The streets and houses of Fog City were covered in a thick white fog, with a gloomy sky hanging over the city.
Various debris bags floated on the streets, and zombies roamed in the fog, emitting terrifying roars.
There were indeed a lot of zombies in Fog City. After clearing a wave, another group of zombies would appear from somewhere. Their monstrous and horrifying appearances would give anyone nightmares with just a glance.
Bai Qingqing shivered. If it weren’t for the mission, she would never have come to a place like this.
Fog City couldn’t possibly be filled with low-level zombies only. Perhaps there were higher-level zombies with fangs and green faces. When the ability users entered the city, they saw humans as prey and lurked in the shadows, observing and waiting for an opportunity to strike.
The vast white fog and the gloomy weather created a sense of oppression, and the hordes of zombie creatures were chilling. She drew the curtains to avoid seeing them.
Knock, knock! The sound of knocking on the door echoed.
Bai Qingqing went to open the door and saw Fu Chen dressed neatly. He wore a black combat suit and combat boots, his tall figure exuding a handsome and fierce aura.
“Awake? Go freshen up and have breakfast,” Fu Chen tidied up her hair that fell on her cheek.
Bai Qingqing’s face turned slightly warm, and she squeezed past him. She saw the others sitting or standing in the living room, and a few people from the neighbouring room rushed over.
Everyone finished washing up and started eating breakfast. Only she had just gotten up, still wearing pyjamas, with slightly messy hair. Her clear and bright eyes looked drowsy, resembling a sleepy young lady.
Bai Qingqing wore an apologetic expression. “I’ll be ready soon.”
She quickly went to the bathroom to freshen up, took out a suitable combat suit from her space, changed into it, and tied her hair into a ponytail before opening the door to go out.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, everyone subconsciously looked over. They saw her dressed in a black combat suit, just like Fu Chen. Their eyes showed a hint of astonishment.
The girl had a slender and graceful figure. The black combat suit accentuated her exquisite curves, and her hair was neatly tied into a ponytail, revealing a delicate and fair face. She possessed a cool and beautiful temperament.
Fu Chen’s dark and cold eyes flickered, and his thin lips tightened.
Xiao Yang couldn’t help but gulp and praised, “Qingqing, you look great in a combat suit.”
Bai Tiantian lowered her gaze and looked at the combat uniform she was wearing, biting her lip. A trace of melancholy flashed in her eyes. Even if she wore a combat suit, she didn’t look as good as Qingqing.
“Are you prepared to fight with us?” Shen Mingxuan, with his charming and provocative eyes, spoke disdainfully, unable to control his mouth. “Yesterday, someone complained of hand pain after fighting zombies for a while. If she doesn’t hold us back, I’ll be grateful.”
Bai Qingqing glared at him and retorted, “I won’t slow you down, and I don’t need your help, even if I did.”
Shen Mingxuan’s face instantly turned ugly, and he coldly said, “That’s for the best.”
Fu Chen glanced at him and went over to fix Bai Qingqing’s loose belt, saying, “Do you remember what I told you yesterday?”
“I remember,” Bai Qingqing nodded and said, “Brother, I’ll stick close to you.”
Xu Meng, who had been excluded throughout, spoke up, “Qingqing, come and have breakfast. I’ve prepared a bowl of porridge for you. Don’t leave it unfinished like yesterday.”
“Thank you,” Bai Qingqing smiled delicately. “I don’t like eating porridge.”
Xu Meng furrowed her brows and said, “I made this porridge early in the morning. Everyone has eaten it. Don’t avoid eating just for the sake of your figure. It’s not good for your health.”
Bai Tiantian also joined in persuading, “Qingqing, please eat a little more.”
She felt a bit ashamed. Usually, she was the one who got up early to make breakfast for the team, but today Xu Meng helped by cooking the porridge first.
Bai Qingqing stood still without moving, and the smile on her face faded a bit.
“Qingqing doesn’t like eating porridge, so stop persuading her,” Xiao Yang spoke up.
Shen Mingxuan sneered, “What a bother.”
Within the team, it was only Bai Qingqing who acted spoiled, all because of Fu Chen’s indulgence.
Fu Chen scanned the surroundings, held Bai Qingqing’s hand, and asked, “What do you want to eat for breakfast?”
Before Bai Qingqing could answer him, Liang Zhiyu’s gentle voice came, “Qingqing, come and have noodles.”
She looked over in surprise. No wonder she didn’t see Liang Zhiyu. He was actually making breakfast for her. She immediately ran over and said, “I want it spicy.”
“Sure, I’ll add the chili,” Liang Zhiyu said with a faint smile. He was well aware of her picky eating habits.
The man pulled out a chair. “Have a seat.”
Bai Qingqing sat down, picked up her chopsticks, and turned to Fu Chen, saying, “Brother, wait for me, I’ll finish quickly.”
“No rush,” Fu Chen sat down next to her, watching her eat.
Liang Zhiyu placed a cup of warm water next to her bowl and kindly said, “There’s still plenty of time before we depart. You can eat slowly.”
Bai Qingqing blew on the steaming noodles and praised, “Dr. Liang, you’re really skilled in cooking. These noodles taste amazing.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the expressions of several men varied. Xiao Yang glanced at Liang Zhiyu, wondering if being able to cook was something impressive.
Fu Chen’s thin lips tightened into a straight line, his indifferent face tense.
Bai Qingqing didn’t notice at all and happily ate her noodles, her slightly swollen and rosy mouth from the spiciness looking very enticing.
Xu Meng’s eyes were filled with jealousy. She couldn’t understand these men. What was the girl’s identity that made them pamper her like this? Just based on her appearance?
She worked hard to prepare breakfast, and they didn’t even say a word of thanks. How annoying.
Bai Qingqing finished eating and was about to grab a tissue to wipe her mouth when a clearly defined hand reached over from the side. Long, slender fingers held a tissue and wiped her mouth.
She raised her gaze and met Fu Chen’s deep black eyes. His gaze was burning as he stared at her lips.
Hiss, that invasive gaze was somewhat intimidating.
